When you combine a protein and a carbohydrate (sugar) into one molecule, you get a glycoprotein (glyco = sugar). The protein becomes part of the cell wall and the carbohydrate acts as an “exterior” antenna on the cell wall to receive and broadcast biological signals to other cells.
Glycoproteins:
- • function as hormones.
- • are essential to enzymes.
- • transport vitamins and hormones throughout the body.
- • are essential to the immune system.
- • play an essential role in human egg fertilization.
- • bind other cells and collagen together for strength. For example, nerve cells recognize and connect via glycoproteins as do muscle cells.
- • are involved in the formation of cartilage.
- • are abundant in nerve tissue and gray matter.
- • are involved in blood clotting.
- • form a thick, protective gel to protect cells from chemical, physical, and bacterial attack, such as in tears, sweat, the digestive system, urinary tract and respiratory system.
- • determine a person’s blood type.

These glycoproteins can be gotten from StemRenu.
I am interested in any info about controlling blood sugar. I am diabetic type 2 and have been taking metformin without seeing much improvement. Any suggestions?
Two diabetics I know have seen a reduction in the amount of insulin they need on the Master Cleanse. Also, some people taking StemRenu, a food supplement, have reported lower blood sugar numbers. And finally, be sure you are getting enough protein (1 gram for every 2.2 pounds of body weight). Dr. John Young, Largo, Florida, emphases protein because it makes the insulin more effective.
Peter, I have read both your book and Stanley Burroughs, and did a 22 day Master Cleanse at the request of my holistic M.D. During my cleanse I felt amazing!, had lots of energy (even went to a gym 5x/week for the first time in my life!), and lost about 25 lbs. I have Chronic Fatigue from Lyme Disease. However: during my Cleanse, my Lyme M.D. drew blood, and I was informed that I was diabetic and needed to start medication immediately. I convinced them to retest me after I’d started eating again, and thankfully, my blood sugar had returned to normal. Because of this, I think it is extremely irresponsible to promote the Master Cleanse as “diabetic safe”. It could be made so – specifically, by replacing maple syrup with organic stevia and adding liquid vitamin/mineral supplementation – but NOT as written. When Stanley Burroughs created this Cleanse, Type 2 diabetes was nowhere near as prevalent as it is now, manufacturing processes were different, and we did not have the myriad of product choices that we have today. I believe it’s past time to take these factors into consideration, and make some carefully thought out changes for those who need to limit their sugar intake, for any reason.
Thanks for your post, Julie. The instructions Stanley Burroughs gives for diabetics have been edited out of this book, but can be found on my website here
. They do in fact eliminate maple syrup.
