Perhaps you recall the 2005 shocking book, The China Study: The Most Comprehensive Study of Nutrition Ever Conducted and the Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-Term Health by T. Colin Campbell, Ph.D., former professor of nutritional biochemistry at Cornell University which made the clear causal relationship between animal protein in the diet and cancer. Well, after 11 years, the Chinese government has finally begun a crusade to improve the health of its citizens.
Campbell has more than 40 years of experience studying nutrition at Cornell, MIT and Virginia Tech’s Department of Biochemistry and Nutrition.  His interest in health and nutrition led him to get involved in a program to feed malnourished children in the Philippines. There he began to see a link between animal protein and disease.
His book is the result of 20-year study by Cornell University, Oxford University and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine and shows a clear connection between eating meat and heart disease, diabetes and cancer. In addition, it shows that proper nutrition can reduce or reverse the effects of these illnesses!
Specifically, Campbell reports studies where children in the Philippines who consumed the highest percentage of animal protein had the greatest percentage of cancer. (p.5)
In his chapter “Turning off Cancer,” he details animal studies to verify this information. These animals which were all fed a cancer causing mold were divided into groups giving differing percentages of animal protein in their diets. The animal protein fed to the animals was casein, milk protein. (pp. 57 – 62)
His experiments clearly showed that by regulating the percentage of animal protein in the diet “nutritional manipulation can turn cancer “on” and “off.” (p.62)
The Chinese government is being helped to get the word out by ex-California governor, actor and former bodybuilder, Arnold Schwarzenegger and James Cameron, director of the movie Avatar. Click on the image below to see what they are up to. (2.5 mins)

Even more surprising is that raising livestock creates more greenhouse gases than all transportation combined, including cars, trains, ships and airlines! This is another goal for reducing meat consumption as the Chinese are the biggest consumers of meat in the world, more than the US and Europe combined! Surprised you’ve never heard this from the US government? The fourth section of Campbell’s book reveals the deliberate confusion created by powerful food companies and government entities, which he names.
