What is it like after 27 days? I have had no hunger, although I do enjoy smelling food, but have no desire to eat it. I have great mental focus and clarity and have finished writing, laying out and publishing a 22-page booklet. I have taken my wife out to eat twice. She eats. I smell her food and drink lemonade or water. I am now sleeping six or seven hours a night with no naps except for three detox days. I have dropped 22 pounds from 198.6 to 177.0 and started to run again for exercise at age 68. I have noticed that when my weight drops below 180, I want to exercise. I am happy and stably so.
I have done the salt water flush most days. When I do not, I drink another cup of laxative tea in the morning. And yes, there is still some mostly solid eliminations coming out–even after 26 days! When will I quit? When my tongue turns clear or when hunger returns for healthy food.
But it wasn’t always this way. In June 2002, I had no energy and food, any kind of food at all–healthy or junk–was my enemy. I weighed over 230 pounds and was really too fat for my size 40 shorts. At that point, my wife had been eating a 100% raw food diet and was dazzlingly healthy. So, I decided to go 100% raw along with her.
By Jan. 4, 2003, I was down to 198 pounds, had energy and was feeling good. However, it seemed there was something in my body I needed to get out. Researching on the Internet, I discovered what I needed was a cleanse. However, there were so many: colon, kidney, liver, gall bladder, parasite, etc. While trying to learn what was the best sequence to do them in, I discovered the Master Cleanse that did them all! Twenty days later, I was down to 175 pounds and felt fabulous!
For the next five years, I did a Master Cleanse every three or four months and stayed at 175 and had energy to spare and ate a mostly raw, mostly vegetarian diet. Then I began a seven year research project that required eating every day. By December 15, 2014, I had fallen back into eating mostly cooked food, sugary snacks, not drinking enough water and not exercising. My weight was 198.6, my fasting glucose (blood sugar) was at an unhealthy 155, my cholesterol and triglycerides were very, very high, my blood pressure was around 175/86 and my kidney function was impaired, which made me sleep nine or ten hours a day.
I am happy to report that after seven days my fasting glucose came down to normal range–below 100. After 19 days, my triglycerides are 1/4 of what they were and cholesterol is 3/4 of what it was. Both are now out of the danger zone, although still high–but that was eight days ago and I have another week or so to go. My blood pressure has come down to a healthy 120-140/78-82. I believe that my kidney function has improved markedly because I’m not sleeping so long, but I’ll have to wait until after the Master Cleanse is over because fasting causes the blood test for kidney function to falsely report bad numbers.
I have only had three days of being lightheaded for a while. I used to think that being lightheaded was due to the fasting and felt some days of that during my first seven or eight cleanses. Then I read Dr. Joel Fuhrman’s book Fasting – and Eating – for Health. In it, he makes the point that feeling is due to detoxing and it seems to be true.
So, there you have it. My results of 27 days on the Master Cleanse. I’m looking forward to the rest of it.
great story, peter. great results. sure many people will want to handle their “bad numbers” with the Master Cleanse.
look forward to the more detailed version of the story…
Peter That is Great. I’m starting mine today after getting a late start on the new year, I generally like to start the Master Cleanse on the 1st Monday after the new year but had to many left overs yet to consume – (ironic, the thought of saving the food above saving yourself).
At any rate I’d like to take a moment to thank you for being such a powerful influence to all the countless souls seeking to better there physical, mental, and spiritual presents throughout there travels. It is true, every time I do the Master Cleanse, I feel Amazing in every area of my being. So I thank you for your Guiding light and Positive Support throughout all the years that you have chosen to make a difference.

Thank you Peter for your continual inspiration!
I did my first cleanse almost eight years ago. The cancer in my left zygomatic area pretty much disappeared (a story of it’s own). I dropped 20 lbs. I continued into a raw diet and have had amazing results. I have done a cleanse several times since the first, each time with results. I am now 60 and no one believes me when I tell them my age.
The last year I have had a difficult time staying on the cleanse – I do not know why. I know the benefits and how I will feel . . but have not stayed on over 5 days!! It has shown in my health and energy, and appearance.
I started my winter cleanse this morning with the goal of 21 days. Thank you for your last post, I am counting on this return to my usual results.

I have candida and I am treating it at this time with raw garlic, colloidal silver, oregano oil as well some other natural remedies. I am aware of the dietary restrictions although I do not follow so strickly at times. I have read some information regarding the master cleanse and candida. I am somewhat confused because some info. has indicated that the consumption of the maple syrup will make the candidia worse. If you can shed some light on this mater it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
For about 7 years I had a running poll on the master cleanse and candida and as many people handled their candida as those who developed candida. I believe that minor cases when people follow the master cleanse with probiotics as I have recommended are handled, but severe cases come right back. Best to do a candida handling and then the master cleanse separately.
Thank you. This is very inspirational to me. I have done the MC off/on for over a decade and have had profound results as well in weight loss. However, it’s been over a few years since doing it, and you have given me the motivation to start again. I desire to reduce 25 pounds, and I know this will help. I also have type 2 diabetes (diagnosed in April, 2009) , peripheral neuropathy in lower legs, ED and cataracts- all diabetic-related. I would be interested in hearing about any success stories with these conditions
Good for you Peter! I’m doing the cleanse as well! Great to see you stretched your days! Heading to NY next Sunday. continuing my cleanse until then as I have a high school reunion to attend. When I return I plan do do at least 20 days if not more.I will be writing as well! stay well! Hi to your beautiful wife!
I am just about to start the Master Cleanse, I did it 3 years ago and successfully completed 10 days.. I lost 12lbs in weight and felt amazing, my skin, hair and nails were glowing… I attempted to do it again 1 year later but for some reason failed, I have been putting it off but so desperately need to rid the toxins from by body and also need to lose some weight.. I plan to start tomorrow morning, thanks for the above words of encouragement..
regards,
Sharon from Ireland….
You have answered quite concerns I had. Thank you very much.
Hello Everyone, Thank you all for sharing your experiences here. I will be starting my Master Cleanse in just a few days and for the last month I have transitioned off of meats and been juicing and stayed pretty much raw, in order to have a healthier, easier cleanse. I lost 14 lbs just making those changes. This is not my first MC, but the first in a long time…5 or 6 years.I just have not made my health a priority and recently I asked myself…”if not now, When?” So I began to slowly change and stand my ground (with others and MYSELF) when pulled in other directions. When you are resolved to do a thing it is surprising how people become supportive. Up until last year(AUGUST) I had suffered for 5 years with a wound on my leg that turned out to be related to a vein, that was corrected surgically then. Before that I was treated with a lot of Antibiotics, and steroid treatments too. Assuming that the residues of these compounds is stored in my cells, I am wondering if there might be a time when the detoxification might be too much for my kidneys..which are very healthy btw……and will the addition of more pure water be the solution for this? I have recently been to my GP and she did tests with all coming back fine. If anyone might have a similar experience , IU would like to hear about it. Thanks, Sharen
I’ve never heard of anyone having trouble with kidneys on the Master Cleanse and that’s 2000+ people.
Okay, I just read the book again. Now I really see the importance of following directions. I’m back on track. I usually cleanse for pain relief. I tell my family, “the only thing that will make me stop eating is pain.” The arthritis gets so bad in my knees, I can’t sleep so I do my ten day MC. Usually by the 5th day the pain has lessened, this time because I was not getting all of the lemonade in, on my eighth day (today) I still have a lot of pain. So, I’m going to stay on the fast until my pain is gone. I don’t care how long it takes.
I read your book and all others I could find. I must confess I tried it twice, but I can never last past dinner. I can go fine all day long, but by dinner, I am ready to kill anyone for a slice of pizza (and I don’t eat pizza that much!) I did ten days of that (lemonade all day and just dinner) but I lost no weight. Truth is, I’m scared of doing it “all the way”. I’m hypoglycemic and have been in too many emergency rooms because of it. It’s been a while since I have been in an emergency room and I would like to keep it that way. Can this just be the fear or can it be something physical that does not let me get past dinner time without solid food? By the way, really appreciate your site and effort. Thanks.
If you feel that strongly about your hypoglycemia and ending up in the emergency room, you should not do the cleanse.
Over the years I have done the Master Cleanse and have found it to be very helpful for clearing the mind and dropping some weight. Twelve years ago I did this cleanse for 40 days…..was led to do it for a very specific reason. After 40 days I was delighted with the toxins released, weight dropped but most of all with my prayer answered! Everything is out of wack now….hormones, thyroid and adrenals…working on my gut health right now as well as supplementing adrenals, digestive enzymes, probiotic and liver/gall ladder meridians. So very grateful for the amazing chiropractor that I have. When on the cleanse you stop your supplements, correct? Happy to hear of your success and feeling great with it. Be blessed.
Yes, discontinue all supplements on the cleanse. However, do not discontinue any prescribed medications or supplements without checking with your healthcare practitioner.
Reading all the comments here are great and motivating. I would like to start soon and wondered if anyone would like to be my motivation friend along the way. Texting each other to kind of root each other along the way.
I enjoyed reading your experience with the cleanse. I too have had similar things happen when I did the cleanse for 22 days. I felt wonderful. Then I reverted to my old habits. But your experience helps me to think of what I need to do for optimal health, both mind and body. Thank you again.
