Thanks Res and Mochagirl for the encouragement!

Great job Mochagirl for going raw today. I got stuck with a spaghetti squash, I thought it might be fun, but I could not find a way to eat it raw. I just cooked it for 45 minutes in the oven to heat it enough so that I could shred it. Then I had a mostly raw spaghetti sauce to put on it. It is pretty good.

My daughter who is 7 is trying everything mommy is making. She is concerned about her health and weight, though she is a string bean. She wants to be healthy.

I just received some raw food books and cookbooks I am anxious to read. What do you all do about rice? Sushi rolls with raw veggies and rice vinegar can be very yummy.

    **************

I don't know if my heritage has anything to do with it, but the underarm rock did not work for me. I have terrible B.O. If I use deoderant only, I have to keep reaplying it throughout the day. I will have to pay attention to see if the cleanse helped with BO.

    Have a great day!!

    Sincerely,

    Weezhr

dc: Picking up the Lavilin at a health food store seems like the way to go then. I like to shop online here iherb.com. If you click the link it will take you directly to their Lavilin page. It's $13.66 + $1.50 for shipping so that's not too bad.

mochigirl: All raw isn't for everyone. Just the fact that you're upping your raw intake is GREAT! When I'm done with this cleanse I'm going to transition back to all raw again for a while and just see how it goes. My only complaint was (gas). Yeah, it went on for the duration of eating all raw. I cut out cauliflower, broccoli etc to no avail. Even the dog gave ME looks - that was a switch!

nina: So far the rock is actually working for me. But I'm certainly interested in the Lavilin for my family. I just love learning all this stuff!

weezhr: Rice isn't considered raw by raw foodists so I'm pretty sure it's avoided. I don't remember where this is posted but mtmouse will know. It's a link for a raw food site. She shows how to make Raw Nori rolls and they're DELICIOUS! I've made them probably 6 times or more. Mmm, so good. They're kind of sloppy (mine were) when I wrapped them the night before and took them to work - but I didn't care. Yum.

There's so much fantastic raw food. You can eat any amount any time you're hungry and as long as you minimize the nuts you can maintain your weight or lose some. (actually I gained about 4 lbs but I think I went a little overboard on the nuts). Which raw food books did you get?

    Love,

    Question Re: *After The Cleanse*

    Hi Res,

I bought Raw Foods For Busy People by Jordan Maerin, 12 steps to Raw Foods by Victoria Boutenko, Green For Life by Victoria Boutenko, Raw Food Real World by Matthew Kenney and Sarma Melngailis, and Eating without Heating by Sergei and Valya Boutenko. I think it will be a good start. I have a lot to learn and I feel a little bit overwhelmed, but I will take it one day at a time.

So, rice is out for the raw food diet. Well, I can try it. I would love to have some good recepie's for Nori rolls. I will even look them up now that I know what they are called. Nori must be seaweed then? Mtmouse if you read this, please direct me in the right direction. Thanks.

O.K. -- Here is a problem-- I ate out for the first time in 27 days and I had a spinach salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing. I didn't think that the blue cheese crumbles would be a problem. I had a bit of melted cheddar cheese on my eggs the other day. After I ate that salad and still 6 hours later I am bloated, gassy and have intestinal pain. When do I salt water flush to get rid of the crap in my system?????? Is there any way to find releif? Thanks for any responses.

    Sincerely,

    Weezhr

Thanks Mtmouse for the link. I am amazed at this information age where there is so much information at our fingertips. I can't wait to try some of the recipes.

O.K. My body took care of the bloating. I just had to suffer a little while. I hope I don't have to go through that again. It had to have been the cheese as my allergies have been unbearable. I am drinking Breathe Easy Tea with the maximum amount of a wildcrafted tincure for allergies to find some relief.

I have been up since 4:30 AM and reading Green for Life. Wow am I being inspired! I had no idea that our bodies could get so much protein from greens. This is quite the paradigm shift for me. I am excitedly anticipating a chance to feel even more wonderful and have my body be healthy and whole. And what about that of my family?

I am a little concerned about giving up meat. I have a huge freezer stocked with steak and roasts. Before the cleanse I thought I got a great deal from a meat dealer in buying 2 boxes of meat for the price of less than one. Who knew I would contemplate swinging to the side of a raw diet?

For anyone out there who has done the raw food challenge or switched to a raw food diet..... is it cheaper, more expensive, or about the same?

What do you prepare for company? I can hear my brother-in-law-now...."I don't want to go over there, they have no food. I am not a rabbit."

We are going to go camping today, so I will have time to read more and ponder this possible transition.

    Have a great day!

    Sincerely,

    Weezhr

I was like you, with a freezer full of meat.

But I didn't go 100% raw (I have a small amount of meat perhaps twice a week), and DH still eats meat, so I'm using the freezer stuff up slowly.

As to guests, it depends who they are. The other day we had relatives over who aren't particularly culinarily adventuresome, so I took out a large frozen roast and used it up!

But with other friends, I simply prepare an all-raw meal. It's fun and they've always all enjoyed it.

Even if you want to go 100% raw for yourself, it's not that hard to cook something for others and not eat it. After all, most of us do that all the time on the cleanse!

I am Day 1 post-cleanse. I had to supplement with lemonade because the OJ just isn't enough to get me through the day. I've had about 24oz of OJ so far and everything is fine.

I went to whole foods to buy the stuff to make soup and I think I am going to prepare all the veggies tonight and throw it in the crockpot and let it cook while I am at work.

Last year when I did the cleanse and made the soup, it wasn't very good. I ate it and was very happy to eat it, but I think i could do a lot better. I got several recipes from this site and found another on a different website and will try it out. If it's good, I'll post it.

I was dying to eat food today-just dying to eat it but am working on my patience. thank goodness I am too afraid to deviate from the diet because I don't want to be uncomfortable. Fear of the unknown can be powerful AND useful.

    Default Questions about produce

I'm quite new to raw eating, and have found the most difficult thing is knowing how to handle the produce! I have a million question like:
Which of these needs to be stored in the fridge, or can be left out on the counter: Squash, tomatoes, cucumbers, green onions, rutabagas, beets, carrots, celery, avocados, apples, mangos, pears, bananas, lemons, oranges. If it needs to be in the fridge, do you put it in plastic baggies, glass containers only, or just lay them in the veggie bin?
Also, with things left out on the counter, do you need to keep certain things separate? (ie can I have my tomoatoes and apples sitting on the same platter?)

And a question specifically about avocados... Since I'm from Minnesota, I obviously can't get real fresh avocados. I buy them by the bag in our organic section, and sometimes they're already almost brown when I cut them open. Does this mean they are spoiled, or just quite overripe? How can I tell? Also, with organic tomatoes from my friends... it doesn't take long and they get "bad spots" on them... can I just cut around that and use the rest of the luscious looking tomato?

This is a really important question to me. It's making "eating raw" very challenging because I don't want to waste produce by having it go bad sitting out, and I don't have a ton of room in my fridge!

    Thanks again!

What is veggie broth and raw veggie soup?

Is there a list of raw foods?

What are sprouts and why not use whatever their form was?

I'm at day 8 and don't have a handle on what to eat after the MC.

kimberlyh: I keep tomatoes and most fruits (except berries and grapes) out of the fridge. I wash them and then pute them in a large ceramic baking dish that I use to store fruits. Veggies like celery, green onions, carrots etc I put in the fridge. I put most of them in the veggie bins that I have lined w/ a paper towel. I try not to keep stuff in plastic bags as it isn't good to store your produce in them.

Avocados are a hard one. I always cut out the brown spots, and if it is mostly brown, I throw it away. Since it seems like your avocados are already fairly ripe, you might want to store them in the fridge. Another thing, try not to buy more than you need for 3-4 days, because the freshness fades. I do go to the store several times a week so I can get the freshest produce. I try not to buy lots of anything because it too often goes bad before I have a chance to eat it. Any organic fruit or vegetable that has spots you can cut them off and eat the rest. Good luck!

paddykean: Veggie broth is the liquid maded from cooking a bunch of veggies in water. Raw veggie soup is a raw, uncooked soup in which the veggies are usually pureed or chopped and eaten at room temp.

Raw foods are any whole, live foods that have not been processed, cooked, heat-treated, gassed or had anything done to it (although they can be dried or dehydrated). Sprouts are grown from seeds and grains that have been soaked in water. Check out the recipe box on this site for some excellent and tasty recipes, as well as the list of recommended raw uncookbooks! Good luck!
