    Default Metabolism slowing down?

I've heard the master cleanse slows down your metabolism so that when you start eating again your metabolism is slower, therefore not burning your food as fast, in turn making it even easier to gain weight.

If anyone knows the answer to this please let me know.

    the short reply:

    Yup! :-/

its why you gotta ease into eating food very slowly and carefully... speed up the metablism slowly.
cayenne pepper is there to speed up metabolism so your metabolism wont slow down completely and not as bad as H2O fasts. Â*

But!.. (there's always a but isn't there ;D ) The act of fasting helps you evaluate what you do take into your body and how much. You are exercising control over your urges. And that half of the reason why people are overweight... overindulging and/or lack of physical activity.

I treat the cleanse as an exercise, an exercise in self control. An exercise in taking control over my urges. AND just like any (physical) exercise you must keep it up. This is especially true with the master cleanse.... So you've starved yourself for 2 weeks, alright awesome work.... YOU AREN'T DONE! Â*

Its just the first step in a lifelong process. and that goes for master cleansers who are lookin' to purge their bodies of toxins... after the fast they must limit the processed toxic foods they take in and that is especially true for those who are doing this "Master Cleanse" to purge some extra pounds. Â*This is an exercise of the mind over the body and you must keep that going or you WILL regain those extra pounds back again and thus going through this process for nothing.

if you want to read posts about someone who is CORRECTLY breaking the master cleanse look at spheesta's posts in the emotional detox section.

In summary to your question. yes the metabolism does indeed slow down.

However, I believe those that do gain more weight back did not truly 'Grok' the master cleanse.

Sorry about my rant... its been a tough week with a lot of exams... :-[

Thanks for the info. So what your saying is as long as I ease back into eating my metabolism will speed up to what it was before I started the fast?

So the metabolism slows down a bit. Question: if metab. is down following fast, should caloric intake be down to 700-1000/day (like it was with the MC lemonade diet) and for how long --- a week perhaps??? then week two 1000-1200... and build up by adding about 200kcal per day until reach your ideal energy intake?? Is that gradual enough?
I've been pretty much keeping up my normal exersize schedule 45 min/day moderate to high intensity workouts. However, toward the last three days, my energy waned (this happened each time I've been on MC: I've done 2) and I felt I should take it a bit easy as I could barely keep up in spinning (bike class) and was getting out of breath far too easily. Or is this all psychological.
After the fast, still a bit weak, I started with the OJ (was feeling good and cleansed) and eased into some raw homemade hummus I made and some nuts, raisins: I felt energized and stronger. Can it be that my body is needing some essential (good fats)?? I really wanted to start with the vegetable broth to vegetable soup and light salads, but I bought this RAW foods cookbook and have been looking so forward to tryiing out the new recipes. I didn't really experience any discomfort even though I was eating on the second day following the fast and didn't start with the veggies. I do generally eat a lot of veggies. Hmmm.
I'm actually slightly b/low my IBW at end of fast but feel and look much better, I think. So I'm sure will go up to IBW with the normal eating. Wish it could stay at this weight. I do have a small frame, so hoping only gain back 2-4 lbs.

Also, exercising helps boost your metabolism so when you start back eating be sure you also workout because that'll help balance everything and keep you from blowing up.

Also don't go back to your old eating habits. It'll probably take less to fill you now so honor that.

Try and eliminate the SAD foods...

Eat mostly Vegetables and fruits, oh and nuts...

    Drink LOTS of water

    Eat 6 - 8 times a day... SMALL amounts....

Listen to your body, not your MIND...

    Eat when you are hungry....
If you always do what you have always done.. you will always get what you have always gotten !!!!!!

    Here's my experience.

After my 4th MC in January (14 days), I gained 20 pounds in 30 days. I don't eat meat nor most traditional SAD foods. I exercise every day, drink 8+ glasses of water, and lead a fairly healthy lifestyle IMO.

Currently, I appear to be gaining weight on 1000 calories a day. Prior to MC3, I was maintaining my ideal body weight on about 1700 calories a day. Between MC3 and MC4, I gained weight, but I was by no means "overweight." Since MC4, I can not take the weight off, despite increasing my exercise.

So yeah, I would say that the Cleanse definitely lowered my metabolism.

    Hi OffBase,
Wow! 20 pounds in 30 days ??? That's very, very, very unusual. I suspect it's more than just your metabolism slowing down.

In January of 2005, I did an informal survey of 141 people who had done the Master Cleanse. The average woman lost 12 pounds and the average man 16 pounds. The average weight gain after the cleanse was 6 pounds.

Perhaps you didn't take probiotics after the cleanse to put back all the good bacteria that got cleaned out or you used up your alkaline mineral reserves (calcium, etc.) on the cleanses.

I suggest you consult a naturopath or other licensed alternative health care practitioner. I suspect it's something fairly easy to remedy in a few months.

Today is day 4 for me and feeling good. I want to make it 10 days, may break this around 5 days. I want to lose about 10 pounds so that may be my driving force. I did the SWF yesterday and this morning. I am a vegetarian so not much elimination. I usually excercise about 5 days a week and felt great yesterday. On my first day I ran for 25 minutes. Would like to work out but thinking I sould slow down during this fast. I am drinking 6 lemonades with 1 T maple syrup and the pepper. That is about 300 calories daily. Do you think I should wait to excercise when I break the fast? Maybe that will speed up my metabolism while increasing the calories. Any suggestions? I'm worried about gaining the weight back.
