    Hi all,

I'm new to this board, and have just tried pure ground psyllium without mixing it with anything but water (no bentonite clay.) I've taken 3, two tablespoon servings so far, spaced after my main meals. After about 13 hours, I had my first BM with any noticeable difference to it. There was some color to it, and the consistency was mostly like wet cotton candy, light and airy. Let me preface this by saying that before trying the psyllium, I was heavily constipated, with lots of gas and bloating. My prior movements were small and hard to come by. Needless to say, it was a very uncomfortable situation. That first BM like cotton candy came very easily which was a relief, but I was disappointed that there were no "ropes." I just figured that my pipes were already clean.

My second BM while taking the psyllium was more of the same, only less color...a light greenish-yellow; most likely from the bile. It was definitely "cleaner" than the first BM, which convinced me that it was mostly psyllium.

My third movement came just a few minutes ago, and MAN, WHAT A DIFFERENCE! The ropes were there; much different from the earlier movements. They were much more intact, shaped like the rhythmic segmentation of the upper small intestine (I was a human physiology major.) Earlier ones were like cumulus clouds. The smell was different too. I've never smelled anything like that come out of me....horribly nasty. I think the only thing that comes close to that smell would have been some of the dead animals that weren't preserved for dissection in college...like rotting meat. Another observation I had was corn, which we all understands comes out whole, but one week later?!! Where was it this whole time? My guess would be the small intestine. I can understand one or two days later, but seven days is a bit much.

The consistency between the first two BMs and the third were different in another way as well, the last being more "fibrous" in nature. I pulled it up from the middle with a screwdriver, and it had enough weight to have broken in half had it been nothing but the same gelatinous substance occupying the bottom and sides of my drinking glass. There was definitely a filamentous connection throughout the "rope," holding it together.

I'm quickly becoming convinced that there's nothing silly about psyllium. My wife's willing to try it now, based on my observations. I hope sharing my two-day experience with this has helped.

BTW, my stomach did go down a bit almost immediately, and I've **everybody sing!**.... lost, that bloated feeling....whoa that bloated feeling!

I cleanse to stop the symptoms of IBS. i don't fast from normal foods, I use a mix of herbs for a tea twice a day and I do a large amount of oatmeal and flax, with a tablespoon or three of psyllium.

What led me to do it was a foul smelling muciod discharge and a lot of issues with cramping and diarrhea. This stuff would sometimes just flop right out when I sat down to pee. At night, I could go to bed hungry but feel rectal pressure to poo. The breaking point came when during relations with my husband, I felt a trickle, and here the mucoid scum was seeping. That did it.

It took about 2 weeks, but then the ropes started to come and come and come. The connective tissue was solid and rubbery - no way was this the psyllium, that stuff is not this strong when its wet the chunks were hard rocks, and the whole thing looked like a diverticulitic intestinal plaster cast.

After I was done.. the diahreah stopped. For months I had normal bowels, even on the crappy american diet I have (Coffee is my best friend). I am working on that.

here, 10 mos later, I had a couple rounds of the squirts after my favorite fried chicken, so I'm doing it again.. looks like its going to be a once or twice a year thing for me, maybe if I clean up my diet, it will not need to be so often.

One note.. I started having diahreah issues when two things in my life changed. One is prozac - although I am on lexapro now and have no problems, and had plenty of days and weeks and months with normal movments - but here's the big one.. They switched out trans fatty oils in our foods to something else that has had god knows what done to it - it tastes weird a lot, I know - and suddenly i know a LOT of women in particular with this seepage issue.

So, I'm working to cut out the fake food - hard with junk foodie teens in the house - and thanking god i learned how to make my own cleansing stuff from herbs for 1/8th of the cost of commercial cleansers.

When I was an intern a patient brought in a mucoid plaque, and she was convinced she saw parasites. I took a look at it under the microscope and found it looked most like fiber. I speculate it's a mixture of soluble fiber (jelly like) and insoluble (fibrous) from cleansing programs. It may be gross, but I am all for getting people to eat fiber. Fiber has a lot of health benefits that aren't controversial at all, and some that could explain success with any cleansing program.

Default PSYLLIUM and BENTONITE are bad for some!!!

Psyllium and bentonite are bad for some people! They can actually promote gas, bloating and constipation in many people. There are people that have an allergy to these products and should not use them. Every time I've tried to go on a cleanse with psyllium I've gotten so constipated that it's taken an extreme amount of laxative to get me going again.

You should test yourself with these products to see how you are going to react before you go on a cleanse of any type!!!

And be sure you get a lot more than your normal intake of water with any fiber supplement, especially psyillum, as it acts like a sponge and will soak up water.

A good replacement product for psyllium is apple pectin. Most people tolerate this well and it can work just as well and even better for those who cannot tolerate psyllium.

This is what I say to the skeptics:

Skepticism can be a mark of fear. Don't let it rule your actions. Test your theories and doubts. Don't hide from that which you question. Test everything. To not try something because you have doubts and skepticism is to only give in to fear and to be ruled by that fear is to be a coward. Don't be afraid to try something. Make your own judgements based on your experiments.

    Verifiable proof that mucus/plaque exists...

Although, I will say that people taking psyillium husk are mistaken that the stuff that comes out is not the mucoid plaque, but rather the gelatinized psyllium that has molded to your intestinal wall. You can perform a test of your own by putting psyllium and water in a mold, come back in a couple hours and flip that sucker out. It's like jello!
I can only assume however that it sweeps and cleans as it's passed.

I wonder why some people see it and others don't? Probably depends on diets to begin with and whether or not you are "Regular". I always used to have constipation problems. I'd go every other day, few times a week and was always doing little hard balls. I found the Master Cleanse a few years ago when I was researching "colon cleansers" and I couldn't decide which product to buy. I figured I would do the MC while I research more and pick a product. After a week or so on the MC, I liked it, was obviusly losing bloat and weight and I stuck with it. I did the MC by the book and around day 26 I passed a rope of beads exactly like the pics I had seen. It wasn't as huge, but it was clearly a mucus rope. Thick, stringy and shaped like a string of beads.

I never saw a "rope" again but during other fasts I have passed stringy, strands of mucus I guss because my colon was cleaned during that fast and products I took afterwards it hasn't built up to that point again.

Hey y'all. I just wanted to add my two cents worth. I used to work at
a health food store and learned a lot about colon cleansing.

One of the main things I learned is if your body can't digest it, it will
store it. And if you don't detox/cleanse it, the body will keep it. When
Burt's Bees came to do a workshop, they actually start there present-
ation by explaining this. (They sell wonderful, natural health and beauty
products and are interested in what we put on our body, as the skin is
the largest organ and will digest or keep what ever we put on it, if not
    cleansed, detoxified, sweated out etc.!)

The colon keeps pressing down layers of undigested food and builds
up the worst junk imaginable! I have done colon cleanses , where I have
actually seen black chunks being pulled out and deposited in the waste
I was eliminated. It was unmistakably black and it chunks, where it looked
like it was being picked off .
I so believe in colon cleansing and can tell you, if you have ever heard
about iridology, where the eye is used to diagnose disease, then you
will understand this. (The idea behind iridology is that the eye is divided
into different segments and the nerve endings are connected to the brain.
The nerve endings are connected to the vital organs and systems in the
body. By observing the different parts, weakness and diseases of the
    body can be detected.)

My eyes are green and before colon cleansing were green/brown and had
rings of brown around the inner circle of the eye. The brown corresponds to
"junk" in the colon! And the streaks of brown shooting down are pockets of
undigested matter. After cleansing they are gone and my eyes are looking
    green/blue!
I have done a three day juice fast and have been doing a modified Master
Cleanse diet and I can tell you, my eyes are looking better.
Just like you do house cleaning from time to time, our bodies need the same
    kind of treatment.
Also, as far as fibers go to help with elimination, not everyone can use the
Psyllium husks. They can be constipating and too much fiber for some.
Remember, the colon is muscular and looses tone if not used properly. You
may be able to train those colon muscles to use it, if that is the problem,by
adding increasing amounts. If you use Psyllium, look for Organic, as lots of
Psyllium is heavily sprayed with chemicals.
I found at the health food store, that most people did really well with ground
Flax Seed, as it has the added benefit of having rich essential fatty acids,
which are soothing to the colon and good for overall health!
Thank you so much for this forum, there is a wealth of information here and
I do appreciate it so much .
    Hope this helps!

Is it possible that this mucoid plaque comes from ingesting hydrogenated oils. From what I understand, hydrogenated oils are made by adding an extra hydrogen molecule to the oil. The oil becomes a sort of plastic. That's why you can leave a bowl of margarine outdoors and flys won't even be interested in it because it is essentially plastic. I've found small pieces of this plaque in my stool and it is very hard and rubbery(plastic?)

Yes, in Iridology I used to have a condition called Radii Solaris, with dark streaks radiating out from the inner iris like this:

This was before I stopped drinking processed milk.
