All things are possible through Jesus Christ, but that doesn't mean it is easy!!
I was reading through some of the older threads and posts and found this information posted on the "Detox Stages" thread (page 15). It is a very technical breakdown of all the stages while cleansing, what is happening and why. It should address a lot of the symptoms we are experiencing. If we know what we are dealing with and for how long we are dealing with it, the battles are a little easier. If we can win the small battles, we can be victorious in the war of DETOX. Again this is a repost from another thread, but I wanted to share it here. I hope you find it useful. One personal note: I am not a believer in enemas (especially while detoxing). I have great results with the SWF and feel it should do the trick. But that is just me.

Thought i'd share with everyone, esp since there's so many questions about why ten days and complaints about the ten days being too much...
Detoxification Stages
Here is an overview of the detoxification stages during a juice fast. The time periods are a general estimation.
Stage 1 (Day 1 To Day 2)
On the first day of fasting, the blood sugar level drops below 70 mg/dl. To restore the blood to the normal glucose level, liver glycogen is converted to glucose and released into the blood. This reserve is enough for half a day. The body then reduces the basal metabolic rate (BMR). The rate of internal chemical activity in resting tissue is lowered to conserve energy. The heart slows and blood pressure is reduced. Glycogen is pulled from the muscle causing some weakness. The first wave of cleansing is usually the worst.
Headaches, dizziness, nausea, bad breath, glazed eyes and a heavily coated tongue are signs of the first stage of cleansing. Hunger can be the most intense in this period unless the enema is used which quickly assists the body into the fasting state by ending digestion in the colon.
Stage 2 (Day 3 To Day 7)
Fats, composed of transformed fatty acids, are broken down to release glycerol from the gliceride molecules and are converted to glucose. The skin may become oily as rancid oils are purged from the body. People with problem-free skin may have a few days of pimples or even a boil. A pallid complexion is also a sign of waste in the blood. Ketones are formed by the incomplete oxidation of fats. It is suspected that the ketones in the blood suppress the appetite by affecting the food-satiety center in the hypothalamus. You may feel hungry for the first few days of the fast. This effect is temporary. The desire to eat will disappear. Lack of hunger may last 40 to 60 days, depending on whether you are on water or juice.
The body embraces the fast and the digestive system is able to take a much-needed rest, focusing all of its energies on cleansing and healing. White blood cell and immune system activity increases. You may feel pain in your lungs. The cleansing organs and the lungs are in the process of being repaired. Periodically, the lymphatic system expels mucoid matter through the nose or throat. The volume excreted of this yellow-colored mucus can be shocking. The sinuses go through periods of being clogged, then will totally clear. The breath is still foul and the tongue coated. Within the intestine, the colon is being repaired and impacted feces on the intestinal wall start to loosen.
Stage 3 (Day 8 to Day 15)
On the latter part of an extended fast, you can experience enhanced energy, clear-mindedness and feel better than you have felt since childhood. On the downside, old injuries may become irritated and painful. This is a result of the body's increased ability to heal during fasting. If you had broken your arm 10 years before, there is scar tissue around the break. At the time of the break, the body's ability to heal was directly related to lifestyle. If you lived on a junk-food diet, the body's natural healing ability was compromised.
During fasting, the body's healing process is at optimum efficiency. As the body scours for dead or damaged tissue, the lymphocytes enter the older, damaged tissue secreting substances to dissolve the damaged cells. These substances irritate the nerves in the surrounding region and cause a reoccurrence of aches from previously injured areas that may have disappeared years earlier. The pain is good as the body is completing the healing process. The muscles may become tight and sore due to toxin irritation. The legs can be the worst affected, as toxins accumulate in the legs. Cankers are common in this stage due to the excessive bacteria in the mouth. Daily gargling with salt and water will prevent or heal cankers.
Stage 4 (Day 16 to Day 30)
The body is completely adapted to the fasting process. There is more energy and clarity of mind. Cleansing periods can be short with many days of feeling good in between. There are days when the tongue is pink and the breath is fresh. The healing work of the organs is being completed. After the detoxification mechanisms have removed the causative agent or render it harmless, the body works at maximum capacity in tissue proliferation to replace damaged tissue. While a short fast will reduce the symptoms, a longer fast can completely heal. Homeostatic balance is at optimum levels. The lymphatic system is clean except for a rare discharge of mucus through the nose or throat. After day 20, the mind is affected. Heightened clarity and emotional balance are felt at this time. Memory and concentration improve.
Stage 5 (Breaking the Fast)
The sticky, toxic, mucoid coating on the intestinal wall is loose, and the first meal frees it from the intestinal wall. Toxins enter the blood through the colon. The gallbladder dumps its waste in a heavy discharge of bile. This can cause an instant bowel movement upon eating followed by intense diarrhea. If the symptoms are too uncomfortable, an enema will help.
That is a hard question to answer. If you have been eating meat and dairy all your life, it would take another lifetime of being a vegan for the symptoms to be minimal. Any amount of time that you eliminate them from your diet before cleansing will help and the longer the better. Remember however, the detox gets "stuff" that is stored from time passed.Caffeine never stays in your body the way that meats and dairy do, so they are going to be more challenging for your system. If you can make it through those rough days, you will be so proud of yourself and the more you do the MC the more you will see how your body responds and what makes it happy. Another key note is following the Master Cleanse to the letter. It is already tried and proven and you will get the best results.
This is what I typically do before I start cleansing. Mind you, I do eat meat (not beef) and seafood and cheese. No milk, just soy milk. Did I mention that I LOVE cheese.![]()
**start preping myself MENTALLY no less than 30 days in advance, started preping in Jan. for 40 days in Sept.
**begin commitment by sharing with others that I am doing it, don't share with non-supporters and haters, their goal is to bring you down.
**eliminate sugars and fats (if I used caffeine that would be gone also. Don't usually use it though
**avoid processed foods and fast foods, these clog everything and really intensify detox symptoms
**make sure that I have my most favorite meal within 1-2 weeks before starting, can't crave it if I already had it. I go for crab legs a day or two before I start, ALWAYS!!!!
**PRAYER, for me, it is the opening of all things good in my life.
**while cleansing I increase my prayer and Bible time as well.
**when I start I know my WHY and set my priorities for success. NO QUITTING!!
This is what I have been doing for more than half of the times I have been doing the Master Cleanse. I found out about it 7 years or so ago and my first try I did only 8 days. The more I did it the better I understood my body and what to expect. Now I am on my 11th cleanse and doing my first 40 dayer. I too am still learning, each cleanse is a bit different from the previous one. I do the Master Cleanse 3 times a year. January(30 days), Springtime(15 days) and September(30 days). I really hope this helps. I have a tendency to ramble on, so please excuse me. This is something that I have become very passionate about. It has helped me in so many ways physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally and has improved my overall health. I am 54 going on 34, only because of my commitment to my God, my health(eating habits and fasting) and my workouts (2-3 hrs, 5 days a week, even while fasting).
There is nothing like an epsom salt bath, a massage and a sauna with a cup of peppermint tea to ease the pains of body aches, headaches and the stresses of the day. Have a blessed day and only a few more days before your BIG celebration!!!! Have fun!

Amen to that. I think it is digging down deep from back in the "70s.when I used to eat chips, steak and cheese and soda and candy. Funny how I ate all that and was still skinny. Those days are over.
Now I eat healthier and still don't look like I did back then. YOUTH
Gone but not forgotten.
Thank God for the Master Cleanse.
Ok everyone... Last question before I depart till January: why not start taking probiotucs on day 1 after the cleanse? What's the significance of taking them on day 4? Just wondering if anyone has info.thanks and keep up the amazing work!

Way to go., You do not know me. I completed my first MC 8/2-19,and it was smooth sailing. After the MC, my body went through hell and back. Anyway, I was going to try a three day today, but I made a mistake of purchasing CHEESE yesterday( they just had to have buy one, get one free). I've already eaten both pkgs. So, I've gotten all of my tempations out of the way. I have plenty of "B" grade Maple Syrup. All I need do is purchase the lemons and salt. I only want to go three days, the remembering my first three days were the hardest, so pray for me. DMozart
MC #1 19 days
MC #2 Tomorrow, 9/19-2210 (three days hopefully)
I need to lose ten pounds by 10/30, and I hope I can do it)

Do people really go so long in January? I teach school, so there is no way I could to that. We return Jan 3. I could, however, start and do a five day for Sping Break in March, and do longer once school is over in June. Would that work? Otherwise, I would have to do three days on weekends during January.

[QUOTE=dollfacegreene;83089]Hey DMozart. Congratulations on a successful cleanse and your weight loss. Great results. It is not unusual for some people to continue to lose weight after the cleanse. I have actually experienced that on cleanses before. That is pretty cool, because it helps to stay focused on better eating habits. Here is the link from the forum that gives you a list of books that others have recommended for raw food cooking and eating. I hope you find it helpful.

Hi Dollface. You really answered EVERY one of my questions.
I am having a good weight drop and inches too. You don't know girl, how wonderful it feels. (and maybe, you do) The first 3 days are the hardest, though. I remember last year, I tried FIVE times, and I only made it to four days each time. I want to continue to investigate more raw food options for now and then do the MC again in January (annual worldwide cleanse). Anyway, I am going to take your advise and stick to you like glue LOL. I will check out the web site, stay away from cheese, and see if I can get at least ten more pounds off b4 my trip to FL late October. I hope you don't mind if I keep in contact with you. I think you are very knowledgeable and caring. Thanks for responding! DMozart
1 MC: completed: 8/2-19/10

Betty that is an excellent question. I have been looking for a complete answer to this for a long time. You inspired me to look into this now (I have been meaning to but put it off). This is what I found according to Peter: since this is his forum I want to follow his recommendations, especially because I agree.
This is what Peter wrote in the Probiotics section of this site:
A delivery method that gets the probiotics past the stomach acid to the intestines where they can go to work
Stomach acid is meant to breakdown whatever is eaten. Probiotics live in the alkaline intestines and, as a rule, can't survive stomach acid.
This tells me that since we are drinking the OJ to stimulate the stomach acid to prepare for food digestion, taking probiotics during the transition period will not be effective. The stomach acid will breakdown the probiotics before they get a chance to get to the intestines. Taking them when we start eating again allows the food to keep the stomach acid busy vs taking the probiotics in the stomach alone.
This is also what Peter wrote in the Breaking the Fast section of Master Cleanse Info.
Since the Master Cleanse does such an effective job of cleansing the colon, I believe it also eliminates large quantities of probiotics. Therefore, I recommend people completing the Master Cleanse take probiotics AFTER transitioning back to regular food.
These are Peter's recommendations that are based on his research and it makes perfect sense to me now. I hope this helps you and others with the same question.
I will look for you in January. Have a blessed and wonderful upcoming holiday season.
