Thread: 2010: What day are you on and how are you doing?

    Hi all

    Moodswings.
Day 17 for me and for the first time in my cleanse I have felt irritable and cranky.
And last night I spoke rather too loudly to my 6 year old darling daughter (read "yelled").
We have a no-shouting policy in our house and it was a shock for both of us.
I felt awful and tried to explain my behaviour away, but in reality, there's no excuse.
Initially I was baffled by my outburst, but then realised it was nearly 8pm and I had only had 3 drinks... eeek I think I found the cause. Typically I take a drink at 9, 11, 1, 3, 5.30 and then about 8.30 when I finally sit down with my husband. Perhaps feeding by body with carbs steadily every two hours has in fact kept my emotions balanced and the reason why I haven't experienced this before. Interesting huh.

Hey Lohantani - only a few days to go!
You must be so excited and proud of all you have achieved. Well done!
I am so looking forward to being where you are - I've only got 11 days to go!

    Keep squeezing folks -
    All the best

Then, before you throw them into a dehydrator (or your oven on lowest setting with door cracked open), add whatever seasonings you like. I usually use a bit of sea salt, garlic powder, and nutritional yeast. YUM! I want to try chili lime, maybe that will be something to look forward to after MC!

lemony, glad to hear you're feeling better. You're almost there! Are you making your shopping list yet? Feel free to share recipes. I have to figure out a yummy soup for breaking the fast that doesn't have carrots this time
Thanks so much for sharing your kale chips recipe! I cannot wait to try it!

You totally called it about the grocery list... I actually even did some shopping today and got started making my first ever raw chips for later when I go off the cleanse. My boyfriend's mom gave me a food dehydrator in February & I was so excited because I've been wanting one forever, but then I got super-busy and never got started with it till now. Now I am kicking myself, because it was really easy. I am starting with yam & beet chips. I just put a little olive oil, vinegar, sea salt, black pepper, and Italian herbs on the veggies and set it up to dry. Easy-peasy! Tomorrow I am going to do a sampler. It was so cool that I went back out to the store and got more root veggies to try tomorrow: one each of rutabaga, turnip, golden beet, celery root, white sweet potato, daikon. I look forward to taste-testing each root & deciding what I like best.

My goal is to find a raw root veggie chip that will go well with fresh salsa and guacamole... because that would be an awesome snack treat to have in my arsenal when i want to give into SAD options!

The dehydrator is very exciting... I am looking for more good recipes to make in it!

With all the peels and beet greens left over after preparing the stuff for the dehydrator, I decided to make stock for my upcoming soup. My boyfriend is being taste-tester. According to him, it's tasty! I'm planning to stay on veggie soups for a few days after the orange juice to gently easy back to eating and to continue detoxing a little bit more at a slower rate. I am amazed that I've made it this far & really thankful for the support and information on these boards. I'm really inspired to take more charge of the foods I eat and eat a lot more raw.

Just one more day till the OJ!

Day 12 and eating my ice chips. Never knew I just wanted something to chew. Didn't have to have any calories in it at all!! Shocking things I am learning on this cleanse. i also pour my drink over this crushed ice and it makes it a treat!! What i did this week-end to help me drink was to make ice with the juice ( no cayenne just put more in my drinks) it really helped when I was feeling nauseated but now I just eat them for a treat makes this cleanse a real joy.
Today was my worst day yet cause I had to run an errand through a part of San Antonio that I never went before and I would name the streets "Worst temptation of Fast Food Rows ". There was even a Carls Jr (Never seen one in Texas before today) and that's when I had to grip the steering wheel and talk loudly to myself!! I told myself so many lies trying to wheel my truck over to Carls and KFC it was awful !!! I can not believe I am here eating ice chips!!!
What a day !! I have to stay away from temptation Row even when I get off of this cleanse!!
Reading your recipes help so much!! Can't wait to try them. They really sound tasty and doable. Salsa yeah!!
I have so many allergies and everything you mentioned would be good for me!!
40 days Wow! Why do I have to dream so long!! I can do it !! I think I can !
Thanks to you all and Your encouragement That is what got me through today !!The biggest thought was how I coudn't say "hay lemonheads I did what I said I would do". If I can say that it wil make my year of turning 50 so much easier!! besides lighter LOL hehehe.
    Have a fantastic lemony day!!
All things are possible through Jesus Christ, but that doesn't mean it is easy!!

Uh-huh. I fantasize too. lol In fact, since my lease is up at the end of May, I thought about putting all my stuff in storage and taking off with the kids for the summer after school's out. Just wandering around the country. Not enough money left from my tax refund unfortunately and probably not the best idea with a 7- and 5-year-old in tow. The single mom thing is starting to wear on me. I have sole custody and just never get a break unless I hire a sitter for a couple hours. The little guy will start kindergarten in the fall, so I'm trying to just hold out til then. Then at least I could have some half-day adventures.

karenC, you are right about how we will feel afterwards. The MC is always so empowering!

Lahontani, I've been drinking kombucha for probiotics every day since last spring (except when on MC) and it has done nothing for my gut so far. I still keep developing new allergies. I'm looking into L-glutamine, which is recommended specifically for intestinal healing. Can't find info on how long it usually needs to be taken though. And it's one of those things where I'm not going to be really sure it's healed until I've gone a long time without new allergies, or do the rather involved lab test (I don't have insurance at the moment anyways. ugh). There's an interesting diet out there, called GAPS (Gut and Psychology Sydrome) that targets healing the gut, but it's not raw or even vegetarian. It would only be a short-term thing (you only have to the introductory phase, not the full diet, if dealing with allergies and not major bowel disorders) but I really don't want to do it. So I keep looking for alternatives. I understand that the fiber and stuff from raw food is irritating to an inflamed leaky gut, but I really do seem to feel better when I'm more raw. BTW, congrats on all your successes in the last few years. The MC has been great for you!

Way to go local10002, you're almost done!

RachelJane, I've done that too. Try to be kind to yourself and not feel too guilty. The MC is nice because we can carry on with life while fasting and detoxing, but there are definitely limitations. Like remembering to get enough drinks in us!

lemony, once you're eating again, I would love for you to share your veggie chip experiment results. That is a great idea. I usually end up using rice crackers for guacamole. I used to do veggies to dip in it, but then had to get rid of carrots so it kind of killed it for me. lol

40 Day, congrats on avoiding temptation! I think you will find that it gets easier as the days go by. You get to a point where the decision is really quick - "Oh I want that. Nope not worth it. OK, I'm gonna keep on going". All in a split second. lol

DAY 3 for me, and I'm just moving along. Was definitely hungry last night, probably should have added in one more lemonade (I usually just have six). I slept good, but only 5.5 hours and then I was wide-awake and tummy was rumbling.

Day 3! It was a loooong day but I made it through day 2 this time. Seems like this one is going to stick.

Day 2 seems to be where my false starts usually end. You would think after suffering day 1 you'd be less likely to cave.

I'm waffling on duration - part of me wants to go for 40. That would put me in great shape, kill the allergies, and probably give me that elusive pink tongue. And it would give me a couple of weeks to transition before our planned family vacation this summer.

But - I'm so starved for a social life right now, I may cave at the first sign of an invitation. A friend's birthday party is going to be at the Melting Pot on what would be my day 13 - talk about your "all about the food" social events. So I could do a solid ten days and then ease out in time to participate... but that feels a lot like Lahontani's STUPID STUPID PIZZA. But I enjoy Melting Pot and I can't imagine going and not eating - I could handle just about any other restaurant and just bring some hot tea....

At least I have 8 more days to decide what I'm going to do, sigh... Got to get to work now though

Day 9, and I am depressed AGAIN. Really low. Tomorrow is my last day. I have really struggled with the whole "should I go for 40 days, or just 10 this time" question, and it is finally answered with no waffling. With my daughter coming home next week for a visit, and Mother's day on the 9th, it will be a time of celebration. I feel right about this. Almost wondered if I should just end it now, I'm so depressed. So far, I am just pushing forward.

Dont beat yourself up look at all the positive you have achieved to date................listen to what your body is telling you as to when you should stop as only you can decide if it is to be a 40 or a 10 day MC not your mind justifying the reasons for or against.............Good luck!!!

Sounds like a lot of us have had a few false starts lately... I'm hoping for at least 21 days if not longer this time, cause I have yet to make it all the way to pink tongue - my longest was 23.

Goingforbroke - I'm impressed with the raw intentions. I'm trying to change myself from the SAD diet and I've made some progress (ie, more veggies, giving up diet coke and artificial sweeteners) but I can't imagine going totally vegetarian. Especially when I have to cook for the family.
A couple of false starts but I am BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
