My husband is in Mass and I will have to go out there any day now for his dad's funeral. This is selfish, but I really wanted to go for 22 days on the MC and I will have to stop the day I fly out. With all that will be going on there I know that circumstances won't allow me to continue with the MC. This is my 13th Day. I lost 13 pounds and I am at 140 now. I am happy about that, but I was going to start going to the gym this Monday. I have done Walk Away the Pounds with Leslie Sansone and my stretch regimen, but I felt I could do more to tone my body and get rid of the fat hanging around my middle. Well, I will just have to do the MC again in a few months time. I love doing it and always look forward to chatting on the BB with you fabulous folks.

Honey, I am so sorry for what your family is going through right now. I couldn't imagine doing the cleanse during such an emotional time. You have gotten great results and you sound ready for the next phase. The gym will be there when you get back, so no worries. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Just a suggestion, when things get back to normal, maybe you should consider a personal trainer at the gym. I am a former personal trainer, but when I needed to fight my own battle I had to get help with my accountability. I started with 30 day program and met with the trainer only 2-3 days a week and did what he told me on the other days. I knew that since I had an appointment and someone was waiting, plus I paid extra for it, I had better go. It was so worth it. They keep track of everything. I even had to write down everything I ate and turn it in to my trainer. You are so close to your goal and this might be a good follow up to the great results of the cleanse. Only a suggestion, but highly recommended.

My prayers are with you. God bless you.

I do a raw fruit and vegetable cleanse every year but decided to go with the Master Cleanse this time.

So, from what I have read it sounds like day three is commonly a "wall" and things should improve after this? Do you agree? I would love to hear your own experiences. Any tips on how to deal with the headache? Any other day that tends to be worse than others? Thanks!
First of all, welcome aboard Sandi, we are glad to have you here. Congratulations on your healthy decision!!

Day 3 is commonly a breaking point. The early symptoms that you experience have a lot to do with withdrawal from some of the foods and preservatives our bodies have grown accustomed to. (coffee, tobacco, sugar, dairy, red meat, processed foods, etc) Thank God, they pass. Day 7 is also a threshold point. With 10 days being the minimum number of days for cleansing, a bad 7th day is most times not enough to make you quit. Throughout the whole cleanse you will experience a range of detox symptoms. Here are a few things you can do to increase your tolerance to them.

1)Drink lots of water....will help to flush out toxins and keep you hydrated.

2)Make sure you drink no less than 6 servings of lemonade a day. Standard is 6-12 servings. Drink the least number when trying to lose weight.

3)Follow the evening laxative tea and morning salt water flush to the letter...The laxative tea loosens the debri that is stuck to the walls of the intestines and the salt water will flush it all out. The salt water flush will flush away most of the symptoms you had the previous day. If you have difficulty drinking the salt water, try using a straw and have the water at room temp or warmer. Put the straw as far back in your throat as possible to avoid most of the taste. If that doesn't work, you will have to drink the laxative tea in the evening and in the morning. However, you will be running to the bathroom throughout the day.

    4) Drink peppermint tea also to help with headache and bad breath. Also use a tongue scraper, because your tongue will be gross. (coated and white)

    5) Take epsom salt baths to relieve muscle aches, headache, irritability and stress of the day. When my husband is eating, I find an epsom salt bath keeps me from punching him out.

To make sure you are following the cleanse to the letter and to give you all the basics, I highly recommend getting Dr Stanley Burroughs book. Peter's book is also a valuable tool. I didn't use it the first few times I cleansed, but once I read it I had a better understanding and a higher commitment. You also, of course, have us here to answer questions. Check out all the different threads and links that are available on this website as well. This is the only site that maintains the true integrity of the cleanse as Dr Burroughs wrote it.

Here's to you and your success!!!! Have a fantastic 4th day, each day will be different and a new experience. It is all worth the effort.

Well day 10 was not too eventful. I sleep in and relaxed. I did have hunger pains today, but not for anything in particular. I just drank another lemonade and some more water and I was good. I did feel cranky and irritable for about 2 hours, really had to push to change my frame of mind. I treated myself today; I kissed my husband after he ate peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I couldn't taste it, but he sure smelled so good. Sunday is a new day and I am ready for it. I hope the crankiness will be gone today. Everyone have a blessed Sunday and keep your focus. While everyone will be eating all that fattening, unhealthy, greasy, sticky, mayonaisey, buttery food, we will be having our lemonade and not feeling bloated, sleepy, stuffed and miserable at the end of the day. YAAAAY US!!!!

    Happy Sunday!!

Day 28 here... I'm getting closer but I feel like these last 3 days will be the longest days of my life. At night is when my mind tries to talk to me out of doing the last few days. I always allow myself that if I wake up and feel like I'm done I can stop. A number does not HAVE to be reached( beyond 10). It's just a guideline. However, I also know there is a difference between how I feel about it at night than in the morning. The morning is the right time to decide. But once I do the swf and eliminate and go back to sleep I'm fine. I wake up and feel fine with water and lemonade. You have to know when your thoughts are rational and level headed and when they aren't. Unfortunately I have to go to the store tomorrow to get more lemons JUST for monday and more water, at that point I will go ahead and buy my food supplies for Wednesday and beyond. I really like not having anything in my fridge during the whole cleanse. I feel bad for people who have people there with food in theirs. I've never once cheated on a cleanse or considered it though. It's not an option. I've read some posts recently of people who were doing a long cleanse and admitted to a bite of food here and there each day! Hello... It's not allowed! Oh well.

Dollface. I love what you said about all of the greasy, fatty food people will be eating all weekend! SO true!! A lot of people really overdo it on holiday weekends and it's never just one meal, it turns into a 3 day food rest. I'm SO happy we are not partaking in this you guys! So many people out there will overdo it and feel rotten and gain a few pounds while ALL of US are abstaining AND losing weight!! Yeah us!! Woohoo! We won't come off the weekend heavy and bloated. I have never minded when my cleanses were during a holiday at all. I started one last year right after Christmas that went during my birthday and new years. That was fine with me. My actual birthday is not the only day I have a license to eat cake. Lol. .

Just praying for the strength to get through the rest as planned. Staying in the house really helps. I'm not stepping out until I have to get more stuff. It's easier when I'm at work though. I'm totally distracted with work.

Glad to read all of the posts of everyone's progress. This cleanse is mostly mental, remember that and be proud of how in control YOU are of your own destiny! No matter how far along you are in this process, to me even one day is an accomplishment! I know how it feels on day 1! Just take it one day at a time.

Hi Doll face, Today is day 19 and I think I'm going to keep going. Maybe one more week to see if I can eliminate a bit more belly, butt and thigh fat as that is what is finally starting to go. Weight clings to me at this time in my life due to my age and changing hormones.

This is my firt time doing the master cleanse. The only reason I thought I would cleanse again in October as I planned on doing seasonal cleanses. Since this is my summer cleanse, started in mid August, thought end of October would be my Fall cleanse. It could be too soon.. I can wait till January but want to partake in the eating celebrations of the holidays which means it's end of October or January.

Thank you for being proud of me. Shoot, I'm proud of me. Had no idea I had this much will power! I really like the lemonade. Find it satisfying and delicious. Am looking forward to making my soup and sipping hot green tea.

    Have a great day!

dollfacegreene -- Thanks for your encouragement and prayers, and also the suggestion about the gym. Last year I was going to LA Fitness for 6 months, and this week I was going to go to 24 Hour Fitness on my friend's 14 day free pass. Well, my husband called and said his dad was telling war stories to everyone last night, so now I don't know how many days I have before I go to Mass., and thus, it's a day by day thing as to how long I will be on the MC. It's not even my decision anymore. Though I wanted to go to 22 days and today is my 14th Day, I'll have to stop as soon as I get the call to go to the funeral. So I am plugging along here with the wonderful MC till that time. I definitely will be zeroing in on my exercises though till then. Thanks!
That numbered suggestion that you recently wrote of how to do the MC should be posted for all beginners to read as it really is said so simply and clear. It's great!

I somehow lost my bookmark to the Bulletin Board and it was a search to get back to it./ There are so many other Master Cleanse things going on out there. I suppose they are counterfeits.
I started this MC 4 years ago and I will also stay true to here and to this original site.

Otis -- Your post was great! Thanks!

Going out with 2 girlfriends today shopping and bringing my lemonade with me. Yummm! I find the more things I do to stay distracted the less hungry I am. Idleness is the Devil's workshop, and he will get you tripped off thinking about food and what you don't have instead of focusing on your goal and course of action. Hang in there everyone!! What a team we are. A force to be reckoned with. Ha!

Congrats on making it to day 8, I know you can go all the way! Funny how the cleanse gives us energy to do things we ordinarily avoid, like moving furniture! Yesterday, I cleaned out my cupboards for the first time in about 2 years! Last time was on a Master Cleanse, too, lol! My main kitchen light is out, too, so I was cleaning out cupboards in relative darkness (just the light from the dining room...and didn't think anything of it until I started talking to my new roommate about the cleanse. He was asking if I didn't feel faint or weak, and I told him how you almost always have plenty of energy and sometimes bursts of energy - and then realized I was going through one right then!
But...you never told us...how did the grand opening go?

According to Peter's book, the toughest days, statistically speaking, are days 1 & 2. But my hardest days are days 3 & 4. I have found that every cleanse is different, so beyond day 4, I never know which will be detox days and which will be high energy days. I guess it depends on what toxins, in which locations, my body is working on eliminating. Dollface gave you some great tips...I also rely on the epsom salt baths when going through an tough day. Water and sleep also help me get over the headache days.

I had to do a double take - your father in law was telling war stories...from the grave? I am assuming your husband had a father and a step-father. But the other scenario would certainly be something to make me question whether I could continue on the Master Cleanse during the funeral. I don't mean to be disrespectful...was actually hoping to get a chuckle out of you, to help ease the pain and tension a bit. Sorry, if it's too soon.
On a serious note, I don't think there's anything selfish about wanting to stay on the cleanse. Actually, no one will think twice if you are not eating around the time of a funeral. A plane flight would only be a few hours. I think it would be possible to stuff yourself with lemonade before the flight, and then drink only water or peppermint tea through the airport hassles. You could pack your luggage with lemons, a juicer, cayenne, and the maple syrup (new bottle, tightly sealed). As long as it's check in baggage (not carry on), isn't it still ok? Even though the cleanse takes energy, I think it takes up more body energy to make the transition from lemonade to real food...Making one big pitcher of lemonade to last you for the whole day might actually take some pressure OFF of you! It might keep you more clear headed. Just a thought. Do what you need to do to help your husband and yourself through this time. My condolences on your loss.

Burroughs says you can fast beyond 40 days and that you should fast once a season. This means that out of 91 days per season minus 40, that he expects approx. 51 days between cleanses (or more). I have done cleanses much closer than that, with no ill effects, just lesser results. I ended my last cleanse Aug. 2, and started this one Aug. 30. Am doing fine, but wouldn't recommend it as a general practice. I usually have about 60 days between cleanses.

    -----

Today is my day 6. Took a long, hot bath last night. It was wonderful. Ready to face the day. I have never been on a cleanse and not weighed myself. This is weird. I feel in a kind of netherworld of cleansing - not knowing if I'm making any progress or not.

Rode my bike to the drug store to check out the price of scales. The cheapest ones were $12. And they were all reading about 10 - 14 lbs. in the box, with no one standing on them. So I stood on a few of them - some were so inaccurate I got a different reading every time. The most consistent one, which was pre-set at 10 lbs. said I weighed 157 --- which would put me at 147. That would be so awesome. That would mean I would actually be at my goal weight tomorrow for Labor Day!! But I don't think that scale is accurate. I look and feel heavier than that. Who knows. My period is supposed to start in 4 days. Often the cleanse brings it on a little early, so maybe I just look bigger from water retention.

I've been retaining water and think it's from the SWF. One morning I skipped it as had to be out super early and took 2 swiss kriss the night before, not only did I have an extra large BM, I was not swolllen. I may do that again sometime as the SWF is the hardest part of this regime. I hate scales, they have runined my day many times. I go by how my clothes feel and will do one weigh in sometime.

Hilarious! I love that, I'll have to try it. I will also try to get back into the P90X. I remember that Yoga kicked me in the shorts. I've been busy so missed out on a lot of posts, it's great to come on and see all of yours!
