Thread: The One Month RAW Challenge

I think you could certainly use pumpkin. Today I made a new batch with frozen chunked organic butternut squash and it was out of this world! I made it in the Vitamix with half the oil, and the color and texture are incredible! What I made was more garlicky than other hummus I've had, but I suspect every brand tastes a bit different anyway so that would be just personal preference. (And I've been looking for a way to get more raw garlic in, don't like it in smoothies or soups.)

Anyway, I've found me a raw hummus! I can't wait to offer it to someone to see if they can even tell it isn't beans.

I'd love it if you tried using raw fresh pumpkin. I've got a fresh butternut squash and I'll try using it next, to see if I like it as well as using the chunks. But the chunks can be available year-round so that's an advantage. (I presume they're actually raw.)

And yes, I color my hair. I looked at the Naturtint and have a bunch of questions about it. Do the results match the color on the box? (Of course, monitors don't always show true either.) Can it be used on permed hair? Does it fade over time so there isn't a distinct root line? Can you split the ingredients to make it last longer? Pray tell!

Well, gang, I have fallen in love again! I now have what for me is the definitive red dragon lime-chili cracker! It's my new take on the red pepper dragon chips, the recipe for which is on this website somewhere. Here's what I did (caveat: I like things hot and salty!):

    6 red bell peppers, chopped
1 cup chopped fresh basil leaves, firmly packed
    1 Tbsp chili powder
    1 tsp cayenne
    1 Tbsp Celtic sea salt
    1 cup water
    1/2 cup lime juice
    2 cups sprouted buckwheat
    1-1/2 cups flax meal

    1. Put the bell peppers in a food processor with the "S" blade and process until smooth. (This may need to be done in two or more batches depending on the size of your processor.)
    2. Add the basil leaves, chili powder, cayenne, and salt to the last batch and process again until smooth.
    3. Put the water, lime juice, and buckwheat sprouts in the Vita-Mix and process until smooth.
    4. Add the flax meal and process until it's all thick.
    5. Mix everything together in a large bowl and let stand 30 minutes.
    6. Spread the mixture about 3/16" thick onto nonstick dehydrator sheets or parchment. I use 1 cup at a time to make a rectangle approximately 12x8".
    7. Dehydrate at 105 for about 6 hours, or until the batter is easily removed from the sheets.
    8. Flip the sheets over so the chips are directly on the mesh screens and peel the sheets off. If desired, use a kitchen shears to cut the chips into the bite-size shapes you would like. (This is optional: I dry the whole sheets, then just break them into pieces later.)
    9. Continue to dehydrate until the chips are completely dry.
    10. Store in an airtight container in a cool, dark place for up to three months (assuming they aren't gone in the first three minutes, LOL).

Spreading them kind of thick and having the buckwheat in there gives these crackers strength for dipping but also a satisfying crunch. I'm sure they could be made with only a food processor, but I can't vouch for how they'd work without the Vita-Mix.

Dipped into my new butternut squash hummus, these are the best!

    Hi everyone,

I've been away from the board so long. Work and home have been sooo hectic. STILL trying to move. I started cleanse today, and reading this board is killing me!!

I miss it though, and I hope to get back here more, once the houses are settled!!

    Hello Laaaadies!

Quickie question: Is anyone planning a 30 day raw challenge anytime soon?

I'd really like to go from the cleanse directly into 100% raw, but feel it would
be massively easier if there was a active raw challenge going on.

    Anyone interested?

    NewDirection,

If you can't find any immediate takers, just announce it yourself and use this thread to keep you going. Have you read the whole thing? That'll take you through what we went through, with lots of good ideas and feedback. But we're all still here and happy to chat with you while you're at it! I'm going on a trip from the 20th to the 28th, and after that I will probably be delighted to join you.
