I'm at the end of day 9 of my cleanse. I just found this board a few days ago. I've been drinking psyllium and bentonite shakes for at least half of the 9 days (and, other than that, following the Master Cleanse instructions completely).

Now I read here that psyllium and bentonite should not be used in combination with the Master Cleanse.

For those people who (similar to me) like to know why not, here's a link to some information I've just found about this (it gives a number of reasons):

    http://www.curezone.org/forums/fm.asp?i=265179

I'd have preferred not having to drink those P&B shakes (I find them a bit yuckky)!! But I've still benefitted from my less-than-perfect cleanse, and still plan to end it after tomorrow. (The next one will be P&B free). I'm a little bloated from the psyllium, but the white coating that I've always had on my tongue is partially sloughing off. I was feeling really good up until a few days ago, when I started spending all day at this computer reading up on cleansing and raw foods...there's SO MUCH to learn!

Talking Re Anything else to add to the MC

my b/f and i have been on the MC before and saw benefits realitivly quick. My statement is that obiviously it is better to do the MC for the min recomended time; however, what are if there are any benefits in doing the MC for say 3 days in a row each month as opposed to 14 days straight each year.? this would be 36 days of cleansing rather than 14

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated.

    Kajira,

I think that trying to do that would miss the point. You'd just barely stop your body's digestive processes before starting them up again, and you wouldn't give yourself any real chance at true healing, because the digestion wouldn't be stopped for long enough time for that to happen.

To say nothing of getting all the horrible days and none of the good days!

I would think that if you wanted to do something like that, perhaps some kind of juice fast would be a better idea.

I know that you are not supposed to take any vitamin supplements during the cleanse, could anyone explain to me why?
Because I take a vitamin supplement specially designed for acne and I find it really helpful and would like to continue taking it throughout the cleanse.
My supplement is by a naturals/vegan company and doesn't contain any salt, yeast, corn, gluten, milk derivatives, preservatives, artificial colours, flavours or sweeteners. So if it is because of those things that supplements should be avoided, maybe my one is OK. Thoughts?

No, it's not ok. If you take a peek at Burroughs book the instructions and what you can and can't have are there.

I am on day 3 of the cleanse and only cheated once - with a gulp of molasses. My husband started today and has stopped taking:

Lopressor 50 mg (for blood pressure)

Plavix (to keep his blood from clotting and ruining his new Aorta valve)

Liptor (to keep his cholesterol low so he doesn't need a second bypass operation)

Amitriptyline (a dual purpose drug to alleviate the neuropathology pain in his legs and also a anti-depressant.

Vicoden 7.5 (he has severe back stenonis and this is a major pain pill for back pain.

    He is 77 years old.

I guess if he's willing to give these up in exchange for a major system upgrade, than you can give up your silly little things.

His only problem so far is high blood pressure.

Just a quick note: Stumble (congratulations on your day 3!!!) About your husband: at the same time that -- I'm ALL FOR HIS GOING OFF MEDS-- (and I am not a doctor so take whatever I say with a grain of salt-- err--- for what it is worth)-- it is VERY IMPORTANT to be cautious with prescribed medications! It might be better to go off them slowly rather than cold turkey. I will say I was on prescribed antihistamines for very bad allergies, on my first cleanse--and I went cold turkey, and it worked! But this is quite a list, and when you are "detoxing" on the cleanse, there is already a heavy burden on your system from detox symptoms-- so I just hope he proceeds carefully. Stopping cold turkey on these meds might lead to an overload on his system that could be very challenging!

Here's an abridged post of Peter's on high blood pressure, including a cautionary note.

Even if I were, however, I wouldn't attempt to do those things without your complete medical history, a physical, and any recent tests.

    • Fasting is well documented in medical literature for lowering blood pressure. So, if it's is not coming down while on the Master Cleanse (a modified juice fast), I suggest your review the book you have (whether mine or Burroughs') to verify that you are doing the Master Cleanse correctly by the book.
    • You are the person that is ultimately responsible for your health even though you may seek advice or treatment from licensed health care providers. If your blood pressure is becoming dangerously high or your edema suggests a major health risk, you should seriously consider consulting your licensed health care provider, whether MD, chiropractor, nutritionist, acupuncturist, or doctor of naturopathy. Only you can decide whether that is necessary at this point.

    I hope this helps,
