It was not until several cleanses that I saw the pink tongue, so keep at it, when it finally comes it is a wonderful event, you know: "This house is clean!"

I am on day 9 of what was supposed to be a 10 day cleanse. My tongue is still that yellowish white, and furry. I did brush it this morn with a stiff bristle brush and now its 50% back to normal, leaving me little indication of if I'm officially clean. What other ways can I tell if I'm there yet as I am willing to put in another 4 days if necessary? This is my second cleanse, first was 10 days a year and a half ago and I was going on vacation right after I had 2 days of rebuilding. I felt like a million bucks after that cleanse, and I'm not quite there yet, but still a huge improvement from 9 days ago. I did this cleanse for two reasons, one is I, like most of us, was feeling really run down after the holidays, eating and drinking my way through every gathering. All of the sudden I put on almost 20 lbs since I got married in Sept, ouch. That was the other reason. So here I am, down 16 by day 9 and my friend who initially got me to do this says his weight loss speeds up after 10 days typically. Any truth to that? What other benefits can you tell me of going 14 opposed to stopping after 10? O, another question, my wife and I would like to have a baby, she really wanted to do the cleanse too but since we are trying to have a baby we thought she should wait til after birth, God willing. I on the other hand have a small amount of worry as she starts ovulation today. Is there anything I should be worried about, I, like any wishful father to be, want the healthiest swimmers at the front of the line, are the toxins in my body affecting this. Am I playing with fire? Even though my wife is 40 and time is not on our side, I would be willing to sit this one out if we are in danger. Any advice on my numerous questions is greatly appreciated.

    Recap of questions,
    1. What other ways can I tell if I'm there yet as I am willing to put in another 4 days if necessary?
    2. Does weight loss speed up after 10 days or at least continue? Currently 215 (6'0) after losing 16 so far.
    3. What other benefits can you tell me of going 14 days opposed to stopping after 10?
    4. Is it safe for me (male) to try conceive a child with my wife while on the cleanse?

Best of luck to you all ,
    Matt

My experience is that I get a big drop of weight at the beginning and then it stagnates day 6 or 7 through day 10, which is discouraging, but then if I just stay on another day or two it starts to drop off again. Most of the cleanses I've done were 11 or 12 days, but this time I made it 18 and I did find another "plateau" around day 14 to day 18. I wanted to go just a couple more days to see if the weight would drop again, but I have a ski trip so I needed to go ahead and quit. I'll try to go longer next time!
    MC1 - 10 days, MC2 - 11 days, MC3 - 11 days, MC4 - 16 days, MC5 - 23 days, MC6 - 5 days, MC7 - 11 days, MC8 - 24 days, MC9 - ?

I agree with the above - use a tongue scraper!! Brushing the tongue just pushes the toxins into the tongue membrains. Only on day 2 of my First Cleanse. Feeling great - no symptoms. Plenty of energy! But tongue is totally coated (always has been). Good luck to everyone!

Ancient Ayurvedic medicine recommends the use of a stainless steel tongue scraper first thing in the morning before you brush your teeth. I just use the backside (dull) of a table knife to scrape off the mucous coating, if necessary. It's true that a pink tongue is a reasonable indicator of good health, but as some of the previous replies have stated, one never knows what is inside until it comes out. After doing a 2 week water fast a few years ago, my tongue was a healthy pink and my eyes were as crystal clear as a newborn baby! Fasting, or cleansing, also opens up the subtle energy channels in the body, called 'nadis', which allows the flow of what Ayurveda calls 'kundalini', or Chinese medicine calls 'chi'. I have experienced such energy and lightness of body that I was able to lift double my threshold weight when working out, after losing 15 lbs. of body weight! I'm stoked to experience the benefits of a one month Master Cleanse in Feb.

Just wanted to share this link: http://alexandrateagan.wordpress.com...gue-diagnoses/ to a page about tongue diagnosis. It is very informative, the comments as well where the author answers readers' questions.

Stupid question I am sure. But if bacteria and toxins that need to be purged are coming out through my tongue, aren't I just swallowing them again?

I felt the same way so I use a tongue scraper on a regular basis. Makes me feel better.
Day 15 and my tongue is certainly cleaner and less gunky than week 1 and even 2.

I would say that the tongue scraping and salt water combo sounds good.

At first I was confused when I read the title of this forum as I really didn't know that the results of this diet are so extreme and how common the side effect is!

I plan on starting this diet when I return to college August 28th.
