Hi. Welcome to the bulletin board and the cleanse .

Congratulations on doing something good for your body .

Yes, doing the salt water flush after eating is the wrong thing :-[. Please reread the directions on the cleanse on pages 17, 18, 20 - 22. The salt water flush should be done first thing in the morning after an herbal laxative tea the night before. [By the way, it's a quart of salt water (32 oz.), not a pint (16 oz.).]

If you want a short summary, see "The Master Cleanse" page by clicking the Site Home link at the top of the page. THIS IS NOT A SUBSTITUTE FOR THE BOOK. For instance, how to break the fast is covered at much more length in the book.

I hope this helps you get all the possible benefits from the cleanse.

Interesting question :-/. I've never run across that, but I also start drinking the lemonade within a half and hour or hour after the salt water flush. It makes sense though, if you've not started to drink the lemonade.

I'm planning to start the cleanse on Saturday, but I have a concern regarding the SWF and laxative tea: after doing the flush and taking the tea for as long as I do the cleanse, is there a danger that my bowel will have become dependent on these, leading to problems after the cleanse?

Hi and welcome to the board and the cleanse.

Although I've had two other people ask that same question, I've never known of anyone to whom that actually happened.

I would recomend taking 1/2 tsp. celtic sea salt in a glass of water morning and evening. I read a couple of different places that we need to add celtic salt to our diet and that is a good way to do it. I have been doing that along with 8 glasses of water and going very regularly. :

    Hey there everyone,
so in reguards to the heartburn I had when I took the salt flush, I think the fact I used two tablespoons instead of two teaspoons caused my horrible discomfort. Today was my first day to I intend to try the flush tomorrow morning.

I believe joefrogcool is talking about after the cleanse.

Burroughs is clear about two teaspoons of uniodized sea salt in a quart (32 oz.) of water first thing in the morning as part of the cleanse.

I also use Celtic Sea Salt routinely in my life and think joefrogcool's recommendations are great before or after the cleanse, just not as part of it.

This is my first MC and when reading the directions I made note of all measurements. On the first day we did the salt flush first thing in the morning, apparently I got up too early to try this and instead of using 2 teaspoons used 2 tablespoons of salt. Let me assure you that will flush you out quickly and very throughly. My wife is still laughing at me. ;D

Okay guys, im on day five here and for some odd reason, this salt flush is REALLY not working for me. I've been extremely maticulous about adding the precise measurement and getting the water to a lukewarm temperature and yet only on days one and two did I get anything close to a result. For the last three days, I've simply absorbed the salt water. My face has bloated and my urine smells horrible. I did a salt test on the urine and found the level of salt to be astrinomical. I'm having much better results with the tea so I'm wondering if its possible to solely use the tea twice a day instead of drinking salt water in the morning.

You can use the tea morning and evening instead of the salt water flush. Burroughs says on page 22, " If for some reason the salt water may not be taken in the morning, then the herb laxative tea must be taken night and morning."

Were you adding 2 teaspoons of uniodized sea salt to 32 ounces of water? Did you try increasing the amount of salt? Usually that's the problem. It just takes more salt.
