Me too- this is my first day and i got 10 oz down, licking a lemon a few times to help clear the taste. I am using a straw and non-iodized organic salt but still that does not help. I was nearly puking-i had to go real slow.
So i had more tea this morning.
I will keep doing as much as i can of the salt every morning. They say it gets easier.
    Good luck to us!

So wait until tomorrow and do it when you get up. It will feel a lot better cramp-wise, but be sure to give yourself 2 hours of lead time before you need to leave the house!

I haven't started MC yet. I'm in prep mode: read both books, combing the boards, kicked sodas & chocolate, kicking caffeine this week, bought supplies and adding more fruits & veggies as I get away from the SAD. Plan on starting before the July 4th weekend. My only concern: I'm up at 5:30, and at work by 7:00 AM. I don't know how I'm going to pull this off and keep my schedule. "Excuse me, Boss, I'll be right in as soon as I finish....." just doesn't make it in the corporate world. I'll be off work days 2 through 6 of my 10 days. How do others handle this?

    Candace,

Don't mix the SWF and the tea. Do one or the other. If you do the SWF, get down as much as you can and let that be it. Keep trying each day to get down more.

If you can't do the SWF, then do the tea instead.

I would suggest you do the tea on your work days and save the SWF for your off-work days. The tea can get a little dicey, too (its effects aren't usually felt until later in the day, and sometimes more than once), but at least you have some warning and some time to get to the bathroom.

Some people, though, will make their SWF the night before, then set their alarm two hours early (in your case, 3:30), drink it down in bed, and go back to sleep until the effects kick in. For me, if I take the SWF at 7:00, I'm good for an hour or sometimes an hour and a quarter. Then over the next 45 minutes I simply can't be anywhere far from the bathroom. Then it's over for the day.

If you don't think you could do either of those options, though, then I would have to say you'd need to save the cleanse for a vacation.

Hi, CANDACE! I had somebody tell me that it's easier for them to drink the SW if it's warm, almost hot. I'm going to try this tomorrow and hope, hope, hope it's more tolerable than it was this morning!!

By the way, I want to chew and taste some real food sooooo bad right now!! And have you ever noticed how many food commercials there are on TV??!!

    Good luch with the SWF!!

Kathy: Thank you for your excellent suggestions. I'm not going to let my job stand between me and good health. Others had to face this issue and there might be answers. I'm going to mix a batch of the tea, do a SWF, and take the tea (not all at once!) to experience them and feel more prepared before starting the MC June 28. I'm a SAD foreigner taking her first trip to the land of the MC and Healthy Food. This board is an invaluable support!

    CA girl,

Please note that "trying" the SWF while you're still eating is not going to give you a realistic experience of what it's going to be like. As far as swallowing it and all that goes, yes--but as far as the eliminations go, it isn't the same.

My suggestion is that you start the cleanse on the first of your 4 off-work days, and do the tea the night before and the SWF at least two mornings in a row, the tea the third morning, and the SWF the fourth. Then by the time you go to back to work you'll know how each of them feels during an actual cleanse.

(Of course, you will also be doing the tea every night before bed.)

It also gives you four days to get over the worst detox period (which isn't always much but can be). All of that is very valuable information for when you go back to work.

    Good luck!

    Hello Everyone.

I finally starting this fast today and have a question about the SWF. I had accidentally bought uniodized table salt from the store and am now wondering if I can still use this for my flush. Please advise.

    Hi natdidier,

Any non-iodized salt (that is, salt to which iodine has not been added) is fine for the SWF. So you can definitely use that.

However, I will tell you that you will probably hate it. The difference in taste between Morton's (or any regular table salt, or even some regular sea salts) and Celtic sea salt is enormous!

So go ahead with it. If you can get it down and keep it down, it'll work just fine. (Be sure to use just 2 TEAspoons in 1 quart of water.)

But if you have any trouble at all, I'd run really fast to find some Celtic sea salt.
