Thread: 60 Day Diet Marathon

Default Re: 60 Day Diet Marathon

My first Master Cleanse from May 11-July 9, 2009, was sixty (60) days. I felt great during it, and really, I could have kept on going. The most difficult part was the cravings, mostly psychological, but the cravings got progressively easier to deal with after Day 35. It frankly took me one month before I settled into the cleanse and before I really noticed my body shift into cleansing mode.

I used to be a runner but I've suffered some neurological injuries that make sustainable running elusive. On that 60 day Master Cleanse, however, I ran more than I had run in over eight ( years. From Day 10-Day 21, I ran 12 days straight -- having probably run only 12 days in total over the previous three years -- and worked up to over 10 miles. As I developed some concerns about my adrenals, I stopped running after Day 21 (and did no substitute exercise), only to resume running on Day 49, working once again up to an over a 10-mile distance. My times continued to improve and my heart rate continued to drop.

Interestingly, I noticed that my abililty to sustain running due to my neurological issues waned quite rapidly after I broke my Master Cleanse. In other words, the neurological symptoms reappeared. Within 3 weeks, I was having difficulty running 3 miles.

There is something magical about the Master Cleanse and its ability to restore my neurology, even if temporarily. It inspired me. For that 60 day window I felt like my old self again.

I'm presently on Day 16 of my fourth Master Cleanse, and once again I am running. On Day 14, I ran over 7 miles. Just last month, on vacation in Mexico, I had difficulty running 3 miles around a track across the street from my hotel, and in a two-week period, only managed to run 4 times. In the first 14 days of this cleanse, I've run 7 times. These results aren't a fluke. I just want to keep them and make its restorative powers permanent.

I cannot speak for everybody; I can only report my own experience. I never had a shred of weakness or a moment of uncertainty in health, strength, or vitality while doing the 60 day Master Cleanse. It was the gentlest, most effective cleanse I've ever done. I would have no reservations about doing or encouraging anyone to undertake a prolonged Master Cleanse, with the caveat that one must listen to her body and her needs. While a 60 day cleanse is not necessarily warranted for many, based on my personal experience, I would have no hesitation in endorsing it.

Hi All: This is my first post here. Thank you all for your contributions, which are very helpful. I'm excited to find this topic of lengthy MC's. I've been doing the MC for about 9 years now. For the first 4 years, I did 12 days 4 times a year. I shaved off over 50 pounds during that time period. Then I did two 20-day MC's and dropped a bunch more weight. I looked very skinny as I'm 5'9" and got down to 125 lbs. I got into size 6 jeans and felt so good about myself. I was also a runner in those days and never completely stopped exercising during my Cleanses.

But best of all, I just felt better. While I was on the Cleanse, I wished I never had to go back to traditional eating again. I felt light and energetic.

Lately, I'd fallen into the sugar, dairy and wheat routine and gained a bunch of weight. I saw pics of myself and was very sad to see what I'd done to myself. Plus those foods gave me joint pains in my thumbs and on the instep of my right foot. So much so that if someone squeezed my hand, I'd been in great pain. Even walking became difficult with the pain I'd feel as I stepped down on my right foot. I felt like an old person. Running was out of the question.

Today is Day 6 of the MC for me and I plan on going 30 days this time, depending on how my body feels along the way. But the pain in my thumb joints is subsiding, as is the pain in my instep. I'm feeling lighter and better. I've done enough to my body this time that healing will take longer than usual, but I'm ready to keep on going. Truly, I wish I could live on the MC, as I never feel better than when I'm doing the Cleanse. Thanks for the inspiration!

Instead of upping the numbers every year like I usually do I will be simply cleansing till my tongue clears whenever that may be.

I had such a blast doing my first master cleanse I went on to 20 days, with 30 the year after & 40 the year after

This time is even easier, but that may be a lot due to my raw vegan lifestyle which is hugely mineralised with daily green juicing regimen including wheatgrass therapy & daily hot bikram yoga

I tend to allow my body to mainly relax & focus on cleansing at this wonderful time & it's just lovely

Given that we have everything we need on the Master Cleanse, from my experience I see no reason not to go longer

I don's have any weight to lose and am delighted to report that I don't ever waste away as I originally feared before I started; I do consume the full quota of 3 litres of lemonade/day to be on the safe side though!

Our bodies are so clever & as with HBY your metabolism will amend to attend to your physical requirements at that time; a bit like quantum eating, it's not just as simple as calories & numbers but quality of intake & the ability of a healthy organism to receive high quality bio available input
    28/04/2009: MC1: 23 days
    20th April 2010: MC2: 25 days
    April 2011: MC3: 40 Days
    28 April 2012: MC4 - going strong!

Fascinating thread. Thanks for your posts guys. I am on day four of what I hope will be a 30+ day cleanse. I envy anyone who can follow a raw vegan diet!

As a writer about natural health (particularly alkaline diet, raw food, liquid cleansing) for a while, I love raising the profile and support for these approaches. So, when I am in the position of not having to be a slave to the corporate world, and can live in an environment which is warm all-year round - I shall have to consider it.

I could have a physical once a week. Weight, bodyfat %, live blood analysis, ECG, anything else interesting to note to see what happens over the period. I would also spend the year building on my aerobic and strength capacity. If I could demonstrate an aerobic improvement and strength gains over the year, I think it has the capacity to make international headlines over what we have come to believe as necessary for our energy intake.

I also believe I could strongly address the world's incredible paranoia regarding protein deficiency. To believe that the body can synthesize protein out of nitrogen - as Burroughs mentions - is a big statement in this day and age of believing health means scoffing yourself with whatever, as long as most of it is protein (regardless of whether it can be digested properly). If I were able to come out of that year stronger than when I went into it, I believe I could test that statement on an unprecedented scale. If it got the attention that it deserved, it could be a truly significant finding, potentially even historical. Although I doubt this on the basis that it is not the news that people want to hear on the couch with the processed TV dinners.

Regardless, it would be an amazing thing to do. I could make a journal DVD throughout the year, which I believe would be very popular.

The only thing I wonder is how I could prove that I did what I am thinking of doing...
Nitrogen is a by product OF protein sythesis not the other way around. It show in the blood urea nitrogen lab and I have seen patients with muscle wasting so it does happen.

The post I am replying to is an old one, but I had to reply anyway....If you feel better on the master cleanse than you do when eating normal foods, you most likely have food allergies and should get every food allergy test there is out there to be taking. It is normal to feel cleaner, lighter, etc. on the cleanse but to the problems exhibited in this persons situation is something that needs to be looked into. Bad food sensitivities are a killer on the body in many ways, so getting tested will help determine what those sensitivities are.

what's the rush? if it is more important for you to do this in 60 days than to spend 18 weeks preparing then i wouldn't go in with any time goal whatsoever. you can't have it all, either 60 days without a time goal or 18+ weeks with a time goal. do you have any races besides a 5k workout to support your 4-5 hour goal?

From all I've read and learned from other people who have done the MC, you can go as long as you want until your tongue turns pink and clear or until hunger for real food (like salads and vegetables) returns. Those are the two classic signs that a cleanse/fast is over. Going beyond that is not advised.

I set out to do a 40 day MC once, but got to day 28 and my tongue was clear so I stopped.

I have done two other things that approach the wonderful feeling on the best days of the cleanse: 1) a vegan diet with no wheat, corn, sugar or artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners or preservatives and 2) a remarkable new supplement called Laminine that is completely different than any other supplement.
