Hi Mbaud,
Good luck on your cleanse. The longest I've read the average person should go is 40 days, though I think I've read you can go longer under the supervision of a doctor.
I don't mean to sound judgemental, but the growning popularity of this regimine scares me a little. I think a lot of people are turning to this "diet" as a quick-fix--and honestly, I'm tempted too! I have thirty extra pounds I'd like to lose from having 3 kiddos in 5 years. I do the math and figure I can bite the bullet and maybe lose it all in a month, or should I take a year to drop it with more exercise at the recommended rate of 2 lbs per week...hmmm...that seems like a no-brainer. [edit: to clarify, I meant that this seems like a no brainer in that I'd LOVE to lose it all in a month as compared to draging it out over a whole year.]
All of my friends seemed to magically lose their baby weight, and my business partner is 10 years older than me and a slim size 4, all while eating brownies and chocolate cake all day long! Very frustrating when I eat fairly well.
But in the end I think I'll go with a 10-20 day cleanse (and I always try to refer to it as a cleanse rather than a diet) and then use that great discipline toward a sensible relationship with food and lots more regular exercise. And that's not simply taking the sanctimonious route. For one thing, I'm a little concerned that I'll have extra untoned skin? Yuck, I know, but I've seen it in people that loose too quickly.
Anyway, I know you'll do whatever is right for you--and that may very well be 60 days-- or more. Good luck!!!

Sopheesta, a mod on here did it for 85 days I think.
Private message her.
I think you can do whatever you feel like as long as you listen to your body.
Maybe even do a 40 day, then do the lemonade in the morning and for lunch and a salad or something for dinner for a while as Burrough's suggests in the book, then go back to the pure cleanse for another x amount of days.
Since this is your first cleanse, maybe wait a little and see how you feel during this first MC then make plans for there. Because I find I keep losing even after my MC. (as long as I exercise and keep eating right)
Swimgirl is right though, this cleanse isn't a quick-fix magic diet. It takes alot of discipline and work and when you're off it you still have to make the right food decisions and exercise.

Hi MBaud:
Soph actually went for 53 days. Towards the end it wasn't pretty.
If you choose to do a long term cleanse, I don't recommend going longer than 40 days. Take a break in between, maybe a week or two and then start again. I strongly discourage going for 60 days at once.
Truly, this cleanse is amazing and does wonderful things for you in many ways - but are you able to say "No" to yourself now regarding food? The cleanse is the easy part. What you do inbetween cleanses is the hard part. Many of us have cleansed more than once and perhaps several times. It took a lifetime to learn bad eating habits and it will take many of us the rest of our lives to learn to eat right and make right choices for our "health". One cleanse isn't the answer, but it is a fantastic step in the right direction.
Let us know what you plan on doing. We'll be here for you to cheer you on whatever you decide.

I have had the fantasy of MC'ing for 365 days for the past few years. This would involve attempting the 365 days with monitoring and seeing how it goes.
As a writer about natural health (particularly alkaline diet, raw food, liquid cleansing) for a while, I love raising the profile and support for these approaches. So, when I am in the position of not having to be a slave to the corporate world, and can live in an environment which is warm all-year round - I shall have to consider it.
I could have a physical once a week. Weight, bodyfat %, live blood analysis, ECG, anything else interesting to note to see what happens over the period. I would also spend the year building on my aerobic and strength capacity. If I could demonstrate an aerobic improvement and strength gains over the year, I think it has the capacity to make international headlines over what we have come to believe as necessary for our energy intake.
I also believe I could strongly address the world's incredible paranoia regarding protein deficiency. To believe that the body can synthesize protein out of nitrogen - as Burroughs mentions - is a big statement in this day and age of believing health means scoffing yourself with whatever, as long as most of it is protein (regardless of whether it can be digested properly). If I were able to come out of that year stronger than when I went into it, I believe I could test that statement on an unprecedented scale. If it got the attention that it deserved, it could be a truly significant finding, potentially even historical. Although I doubt this on the basis that it is not the news that people want to hear on the couch with the processed TV dinners.
Regardless, it would be an amazing thing to do. I could make a journal DVD throughout the year, which I believe would be very popular.
The only thing I wonder is how I could prove that I did what I am thinking of doing...
Hello all,
I'm new here but not to the lemonade "diet".
I think for this idea to really gain vadility the world over, it would need to stand up to the scientific method. Meaning it would need to be proven over and over again in a controlled inviroment, etc... and possibly conducted using a large group of people (test subjects). People would be quick to point out that your experience is an exception and not the norm. Without this, your hard work could make you look like no more than a freak of nature and not necessarily the end all find to better human health. I wish you luck and please keep us updated.

Hi all,
Thought I'd add my two cents. I have done long ones and am on day six of a 60 day cleanse right now. I have heard about people being on it over a year with no problems. Don't listen to the naysayers, you will know in your gut if this is the healing path for you. If it is, jump on board and enjoy the ride! There really is nothing better you can do for your body than the Master Cleanse, no matter how long you decide to stay on it. And I feel it is especially safe to do when one is overweight...as Stanley Burroughs said, this is the best reducing diet there is!
Best of luck!
In Tom Woloshyns book The Complete Master Cleanse, he notes someone who has done it 372 days straight and at the end got medically reviewed as being in perfect health!
