Be sure to make it with Medjool dates. I think Ani puts the Medjools in the cake part and "semisoft" in the frosting. I used Medjool for both, but if I wanted to use both kinds of dates I think I'd switch them. You (or at least I) really want that frosting to be creamy. The cake is so dense I doubt it matters.

After eating medjool dates I haven't tried any others. I used to use honey dates or a different variety but the Medjools are like Turkish delight.

I have to make that cake tonight - I mentioned in the other thread that I'm fixated on Pandan cake. I've never had it but a friend keeps talking about it.

Kathy, did you use cacao powder or cocoa powder for the cake? I don't think I have cacao!

I don't make a distinction, but what I have on hand is raw cacao powder. If you use cocoa I suppose it's not raw, but it would still taste fine.

Organic cocoa pwdr worked just fine. I'll have to pick up raw cacao though. Mmmmmm so good.

Wildernessfamilynaturals has raw cacao powder. I might end up making a trip to whole foods, although I prefer to not go that far and just have it show up on my doorstep. lol

I always get mine through amazon.com. I have it on autoship, which saves something - 10%? Sometimes I delay the shipment, sometimes I need it early. But it is great having it just get sent.

No, the brand I get is Navitas (which is the one Cohen sells on her site, if I recall correctly). But check and see, maybe amazon has your brand too.
