Hey,
I'm doing the master cleanse for the second time, and this time around I couldn't bring myself to do the salt-water flush. I'm in school and it's a little difficult when you have 8:00 am classes every day. So I'm taking the laxative tea twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. It is the senna leaf tea, and on the box it says to take it for longer than a week could cause bowel function dependency. Is it safe to take it as much as I am? Anyone have experience with this?
Thanks,
Jacob
P.S. I am on day 5 and I have a pretty wicked sore throat, should I stop or just keep on going?

Though I've read from other replies to a similar question stating that it's safe to take and if you are feeling cramps or pain to dilute the tea or take a senna blend tea, I am interested in finding out if people have had dependancy issues on the tea after breaking the fast.
I also would like to know if I should do the lax tea in the morning as well as the SWF. I do the lax tea at night, and the SWF in the morning with no problems, but I've found a few instances in the original book and the supplemental book by Glickman that we should do a lax tea in the morning as well as the SWF. So should I do that extra lax tea in the morning? If so, when should one drink the AM lax tea? Before or after the SWF? How long before or after?

I am on my 3 MC right now and I have only done the SWF once on my first cleanse. I just couldn't do it again so I have been drinking the tea twice a day for all of my MCs. I feel great. The MCs are working wonders and I have no indication that the tea is harming me. The only negetive I have is that I feel a little diarrhea-like sickness whenever I have to have a bowl movement. That may just be the way it works in my body.
I plan to try the SWF again during this MC, but I haven't yet worked up the nerve.
Good luck!!!

I have had no problems with dependency at all. In the Master Cleanser, Stanley Burroughs states that the tea should be taken twice a day if you do NOT do the SWF. So don't take the tea in the morning if you are doing the SWF.

i've seen both burroughs and glickman state to do both AND swf in their books at various times which confused me.

any more people have input on laxative tea dependency? i've seen peter post that he has not known of anyone that has had lax tea dependency, but frankly one person's experience isn't going to cut it for me. as i grow increasingly concerned about this, i find more articles stating that one DOES become dependent on laxative tea and that their colon becomes sluggish once off the lax tea.

I have heard from nutritionists that taking Senna tea for more than a week is considered a bad idea (due to dependency). This is the only part about the MC that concerns me. I have tried the tea before, and it works, but it does cause uncomfortable BMs for me. The discomfort gives me cause for concern. I'm about to try the MC again, and I'm thinking about either diluting my Senna tea, having it every other night, or eliminating it from the cleanse, but in either case, continue with the Salt Water Flushes in the morning.
If someone knowledgeable could share his or her opinion, that would be GREAT. Thank you.

I am thinking that the dependency that they are concerned about is if you are eating a SAD diet. We are not doing that.
It is essential to eliminate the toxins that are being dispelled. If you do not help that along with something, they will just be reabsorbed and all would be for naught.
I have NEVER come away from a fast with a dependancy on the tea... Now the probiotics, they are simply wonderful, and what I use post cleanse for daily eliminations and to curb the sweet and salt cravings that I used to have.
Best of luck to you on the cleanse and your journey
