Hello Everyone,
This is day 1 of the 14 day for me. I've read the posts on this board for over 6 months now and definitely encouraged by the comments and support the members give each other. I will post each night for moral support and accountability.
Welcome aboard. Hugs.

Four more days. Good for you. Hugs. I too have been thinking about what eating plan I wanted to start when I finish. I'm considering the South Beach diet phase one. It has lots of green, I love greens, that I can eat and grilled squash is great. Plus many of the things I can put in my steamer bags. :p
I thought about South Beach as well. I have a low carb book that reviews many different low carb diets and SB has 5 stars. I am going to start reading the book (picked it up years ago at the thrift store and never read it).
I have been craving beans and broccoli and eggs. This isn't a detox kind of craving, I have been craving these for the last 2 weeks. My body is really wanting some iron and protein! Tofu has been sounding really good too.

I been thinking of an egg bake. I can only use the egg scramblers. I want some shrimp; I know I will cut down on my meat consumption, but I won't totally cut it out. And I've been wanting cabbage and grilled squash.

Last night was a bad night, couldn't sleep, hunger pains....I had about a cup left so I finished that off and that took off the edge. I woke up this morning feeling good. The tea kicked in before I left for work and when I got to work. So far no hunger pains, I'm staying on top of the drinking. I'll post tonight before I go to bed.......posting each day makes me feel accountable. LOL!

Hello everyone :) this is day 5 for me ! this cleanse is a weird one for me actually, each cleanse I do has different symptoms for me . Last time I cried like a baby nearly the whole cleanse this time I feel like I am starving!!! Last night I felt like an animal and nearly attacked my son when he asked for a brownie for dessert lol. Every day has been such a struggle to not eat I'm hoping this goes away after today. I plan to start the gym tomorrow I need to see if I can hang because I play softball on Sundays and I dont want to end up passing out on the field.
I usually use grey seltic sea salt and I had a little trouble with the SWF coming out last cleanse too. Well this time I'm using Mortans natural sea salt you can find it @ any grocery store for alot less ($1.79 8)) and OMG let me tell you it's insane the taste is not as mild as the grey seltic but it all comes out all day long!! I've cleansed atleat four times and never had it come out as quick and as much. Just a suggestion for those of you having trouble.

day 19 finishing up. Two days to go. I am still feeling good physically but emotionally I am tired of being o the cleanse. My husband is tiredof me being on it as well. Day 21 (last day) is going to be hard. Mother's Day. And we are going to a BBQ. I am not looking forward to that day.
I read more about South Beach and I like what I have read. I get to have coffee (well decaf) and the other things I am craving. Beans, cheese, broccoli. Even popcorn (in moderation in phase 2 and 3) I am still going to go off the cleanse as resomended but in a few weeks I will give South Beach a try.
My weight has not gone down any more. How frustrating.

I was about to make the same comment. First, you are making me hungry;). Popcorn is my nemesis. During my first fast, I smelled popcorn from day 1. It was the reason I stopped at day 28, I was supposed to go for 30. I am looking forward to also starting SB.
In the past three days, I've lost .2 lbs. I wondered if I was doing something wrong. Could the body have said, "this is all for now?" Anyone have any words of wisdom? I am getting ready to flush, maybe I'll reweight after that.
Sorry about Mother's Day, this is the reason I'm staying away from my family this weekend. I don't think I could make it through without breaking my fast, too many cravings this time.
On the plus side, I am feeling a lot more energy. Walk 1.4 miles the day before yesterday and performed major cleaning on my house yesterday.
Hopefully I'll start back losing weight. My goal is to be down to 165 by the end of my fast. If I can go lower, I shall. Hugs to you all and hang in there.

Are you drinking enough during the day of both the water and the lemonade? I never really have bad pains unless I don't have enough to drink during the day. Hang in there and know we are pulling for you. Hugs.

Me too!!! My first fast I smell popcorn the whole time. This time, it's so many different smells, real and imagined, that there are days that I think this will be my last. The only thing that saves me is when I set my mind on something, I keep going until I reach my goal. If I stop early, it's due to illness.
I've injured my left arm in the past and last night it ached like crazy. I usually had to take something but I massaged it and waited it out. I think that was a detox symptom.
About your last question, I'm not sure. But one of the other boards, maybe the newbie one, might have the answer. Hang in there. Hugs.

I am a newbie (haven't started yet) with a question and didn't want to post in this thread but don't have permission to begin a new thread, and haven't found an answer in any FAQ, or by searching. I just want to know where I can access research info backing up the statement that the body uses muscle for energy for the first 2-3 days then switches and starts using fat... At my age I can't afford to lose much more muscle. Thanks!

Hi Everyone,
Well I am starting my cleanse on Monday..I am 24, and from the United Kingdom. I have a lot of weight to lose. At least 70lbs, and I am using the cleanse to help me break free from my comfort eating and to gain some mental clarity as I have a lot of things going on in my life right now, and I need to be focused. I have been on the cleanse a couple of times before. The longest time being 16 days...but I intend to go a lot longer this time. However, one day at a time to start off with.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Day 20. I am not feeling as great as I have been. I am tired and so hungry. The drink isn't making me feel full like it did that past few weeks. :(
I lost 0.9 pounds. It does seem to be that if I drink the tea in the morning that the next day I will have lost and if I SWF then the next day I have gained or stayed the same. But I did make it below 180 finally. Dang, I hope to never see that number ever ever again.
My daughter just joked that tomorrow is mother's day and she will make me breakfast (meaning squeeze my lemons lol)
Oh and I want to reiterate the advice "don't ever fart" I had a little oops on my way to work this morning. Ugh! So ready to be done with this cleanse.

Congrats to finishing your fast. I was also looking at that FoodLover's diet and discovered that all it simply consists of combining the right foods to enhance fat burning. Since I don't have 120.00 to spend on something I can take the time and effort to do myself, I did some research and found this site, http://weightloss.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.fredacare.com%2Fclient%2Fdeficiency%2Fcombine.htm It looks interesting and I can shop and combine for myself. It really helps to have spousal support. My husband is supportive, but I still have to cook his meals and that's getting harder and harder. I don't get hungry, but the cravings are making me crazy.

I had a very weird reaction. Last night was my last night on the cleanse and I was getting a migraine. I have suffered for a long time with migraines and I did not want to mess with one. So....i took two Tylenol PM pills. Huge mistake. The weird side effect is that I was wide awake until about 4:30 am. That is about the time that they Tylenol wore off I think. I was jittery and restless. It was a very scary feeling. Add to that the total frustration that I was tired but could not sleep. I know it had to do with the cleanse. The Tylenol had a different effect on me than usual.
Today has been weird. I started the OJ and it was nice to taste something other than what I have had for three weeks. I did cave in at the BBQ and had one very small chocolate covered strawberry. Funny thing is that it wasn't that great. It was very hard to say no to the rest of the meal. My favorite was served. It was typical Mexican BBQ food and it smelled sooooooo good. But really, my belly already felt funny because of the OJ (and strawberry) so I knew that sneaking a bite or two could land in me in a lot f pain. I remember reading on this board about someone who broke a very long cleanse by not easing out of it and the pain was so bad that they ended up in the hospital.
Missfae thank you for that food combining chart. That is fantastic!
I am going to keep coming to these boards until I am out of weaning myself off the cleanse.

Take it easy. I came off to fast one time and had to go to the hospital. I love this chart. I forgot to add this site, http://healthy-lifestyle.most-effective-solution.com/2008/09/29/food-combining-diet-for-weight-loss/ I also remember reading that you can start this off with two or three times a week and that you don't have to do it 7 days a week. Five days each week is enough. There is enough foods on the group, I love all the legumes, that I will be satisfied. And to eat my potatoes, yes. lol
I can even have a day to eat my fried stuff and still not break the program.

Just started my period today, I think that accounts for my non-weightloss these last few days. It's really making me sick. If I can make it to Tuesday, day 15, I think that'll be my last day. Darn it, so close to 20. The fast actually brought it on 14 days early.

I know some of the members use the agave instead of the syrup. I don't know if it's less sweet. Maybe that will help.
I don't know what agave is... what it tastes like etc.. Do you ? I did read that in the book. Do you think it would have a bearing on me detoxing if i had the maple syrup separate?

Good morning lemon-head friends. I am sitting here on the morning of the 18th day trying desperately not to throw up the salt water. Every single time it is harder and harder not to just throw back up. I will not miss it. yuck. I have also noticed that on days that I do the SWF I don't loose (or actually gain a few oz) the next morning but the days I do the smooth move tea in the morning I loose quite a bit the next day. Lost 0.7 with todays weigh in. 4 days let. Yahoo!
I keep reading about different diets for after the cleanse. I was thinking of doing a low carb one. But the focus on meat and the lack of beans of most of the low carb diets make me wonder. I don't plan on giving up meat all together but I do plan of cutting back. And beans just sound so good to me right now. I do a LOT better with healthy eating if I am following an actual plan. If I don't have a fence in place I will wonder all around and end up in the next field over. I have a plane to ease out of the MC but after that I need to decide what to do.

read Fit for Life not Fat for Life (checkout your local library) what Harvey Diamond talks about is MORE information, that we were never told EVER EVER EVER!!! 50/50 live/not live food... and to get that goal much easier? is Fruit til Noon ... and don't eat after 8pm ... You can have your steak, chicken etc... just make sure you have 50/50. It is very interesting what Mr Diamond has to say in his book.. If you are on FB then he is too... :) i think he has audio on his website.. www.fitforlifetime.com PLUS I need to or should I say, I want to look into what Probiotecs are....I have been reading that we need to take them after the MC ??????
And isn't the thought of FOOD the bomb??? what sucked was that When I was off the Cleanse I was so used to not eating that I wasnt hungry... I would take nibbles here and there, my co worker said that i should be close to a potty when i had my soup....well i guess everyone is different... !! but i found out that taking nibbles of Easter ham made me wake up HUNGRY... I guess that also meant that there was still left over food in my colon/intestines that made me be hungry...
Good Luck Candi!!!!

That is good to know about Mortons... because that is what I used for my 21day MC. I was afraid that if I didnt have the Grey Celtic Salt, there would be a problem... And I am sick of the SWF but what i learned on the last day was that it is so much easier just counting the large drinks...and do as many as I can without coming up for air. I have never thrown up but yes I felt like it once or twice about day 18-19...but i just got in the shower ...and I had to hurry up cuz the SWF wanted out!!!!! :)
Good Luck with your Softball game...should be going on as I type..

Eliminate all day??? well I do the Morton's Salt...and I eliminate probably for about 2hours... not all day...just a bit here and there when I go #1 but I never had the urge to go #2 after about 2hrs .. if that is what you were thinking...

My weight didnt move REALLY but my inches did... Trust your clothes FIRST. but I do THINK that yes some more Lemon would accelerate the process because the lemon is what is eating at the old stuff on your intestines... Peter Glickman did say that you can add MORE cayenne Pepper...and yes that will accelerate the process of the Detox. I only lost 12 lbs in 18days but between 19-21days I lost an additional 5 lbs. I would NOT weigh myself everyday....cuz if you can an oz(which i have noticed alot of ppl of the digital scales) then you would feel like the Cleanse isnt do it's job... Weigh at the End....:)

Well I can't answer that about the muscles with 100% accuracy but SedesGobhani, If it does use muscle first don't worry it won't use ALL of you muscle :) I have been seeing ppl on here that work out daily...4 mile jogs, etc etc etc.. you will be fine :) My next MC (2nd one) I will do my treadmill too. Not that I am afraid of losing muscle but hopefully i can Detox, lose weight and tone at the same time :)

Fit for life not Fat for Life... 50% life food... doesnt mean you have to cut out meat at all.. just make sure you have salad BEFORE lunch and dinner or a chef's salad.. etc etc etc.. And fruit till NOON.. if you eat fruit that doesnt need to be broken down, you will spend more energy on......Losing weight not on breaking down Foods to be mono sacharides (that is what you brain NEEDS and fruit is the only food that is a MONO sacharide) excuse my spelling

In the above diet, you really don't have to cut out anything. It just shows you what food combinations work best to maximize your metabolism. I am not a big fruit eater, so a plan that emphasizes that is not appealing to me. But each of us have different things that work. Also, fruit is added as a snack, so it is eaten. I love all the food groups, although I have never been a big bread or pasta eater, so learning which ones work best together and having the days off for grace makes this appealing to me.
But to those who try "Fit for Life", I would like to know how you like it.
Thanks for your feedback. Hugs.

I'm on Day 16 and I feel terrific. I feel like I could make it to Day 20 then I'll see once I reach day 20. Seeing food isn't getting to me the way it used to. My main reason for doing the detox was intestinal problems. I no longer have those problems. I sleep so much better (it does seem like I need less sleep though). No asthma problems. I've lost 14 pounds so far (that was a added plus). I had lines in my nails, they're almost gone. I didn't know how much the wrong foods could cause problems with the body. How clogged your intestines can get. When you don't eat all day, you find you have more time to do what you want. I never knew how much time food takes. lol... Well, feeling good and on to Day 17.

Today I started the master cleanse diet. i had my first SWF today and it didnt taste that bad. I poured it into a 16oz plastic tumbler w/straw. To take my mind off of drinking the SWF, I was preparing my first 30ozs of lemonade. I brought a citrus juicer which works great. Before I could even finished, I had my first BM which was semi-solid. I am one of those people who has a BM once a week. Then about 15 minutes later, I had a very loose BM. So far so good. I am also keeping a journal so I can I memories of my experience.

Hello! I am on Day 5! Anybody ever do this and travel? I have to fly to NY from LA and I'm trying to figure out the best way to pack my stuff. I'll be in the out in the suburbs of NY and I know that they do not sell Grade B Maple Syrup there. Concerned about security.

I am on day 4. So far it's going really well. I have not been hungry though I have had cravings. I have enough energy to do my regular activities including working out. I just did and 11 mile walk/hike yesterday morning and wasn't exhausted afterward! I usually wake up around 5 in the morning for my first elimination then I'm ok until I do my SWF. I haven't had any headaches, fatigue, nausea or any detox symtoms so I don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing? I have been following rules exactly, no cheating what so ever. Anyone else experiencing this or know what this means? I am a little concerned

Ok, Well I was meant to start my cleanse today but have had to put it off till Wednesday now due to some family issues that just propped up out of nowhere. You gotta love family eh.
So, I figured I will do my laxative tea tomorrow evening. I am just going to take it one day at a time, as I have been on the cleanse a few times, and I find if I set myself big goals I just cant even get past the first day..
How is everyone else doing today?

On my second day, toward the end. I am not sure if it is a difficult day or not, as I have read, overall it seems easier than I thought. I don't really feel hungry, food looks strange, and tastes crazy. (DID SHE JUST SAY TASTE?) How did I taste it you ask, well I was on automatic mom pilot as I was cleaning my daughters chocolate dripping fingers, and licked my finger - wow was that the strangest taste. The most difficult so far is a dull headache I am getting at night, which I am sure it is from coffee withdraw. So looking forward to tomorrow morning for a fresh start.
The second most difficult part is that daunting #, 2 down and 8 to go tho. :/
However the first two miles are the most difficult... (day 2 and 3)... half way there!
Little by little, like running a marathon in many ways.

Hi,
I am on my 3rd day and so far so good. My goal is to go for 20 days. This is my 4th MC and i am not feeling as motivated as i did in the past. For some reason i feel like quiting, not because i am hungry but because im not into it. Argh!
But no worries i am staying strong. I started at 172 and so far 2 down and 15 to go. I really want to drop the lbs to feel good about myself and go back to my old weight. I have a wedding this summer and i want to look great in my clothes. I am also doing the cleanse to detox and help treat my acne. The last time i did the cleanse my face looked great and my skin was glowing and i miss that feeling. I have been slacking with workout. I normally run 6 miles a day 3-4 times a week and i havent been to the gym since monday but i promised myself i will do my cardio after work today.
Is anybody feeling down today? I also havent been able to drink the 4 cups of SSW, this morning i only had 3 cups and yesterday i had 3 1/2 cups. Give me some feedbacks.
Thanks and good luck on your MC.

This is my 4th cleanse, 2nd this year, day 10. I got relief from asthma and allergies from the cleanse so I thought I would try it for my hot flashes and night sweats. COULDN'T BELIEVE IT! The first day my symptoms were greatly diminished and are practically nonexistent now! It has also helped my daily headaches--lessened the amount and severity. I seem to be quite hungry the last couple days so I am thinking of increasing from 6 glasses to 8.

I tried to do a short cleanse last month, but caved in on day 3 when my son made dinner, brought me a plate and then left it sitting there in front of me while I watched tv. Days 3 & 4 are always my hardest.
I seemed to have gained a lot of weight from then to now (like 10 lbs.) They say that sumo wrestlers pile on the weight by fasting for a few days, then binging, fasting then binging. I don't know if it's true, but my failed attempt in April seems to have put my metabolism into the "pile it on" mode.
I don't really feel motivated to go on the cleanse right now, but I am just so disgusted with myself and the way I look. Plus the timing is right and I don't have any social obligations for a month. This time I intend to go until I get to my goal weight, no matter how long it takes: so 40 days +. I'm tired of dithering around and getting close to my goal weight, then slowly letting myself creep back up. This time I want to finally go all the way to where I want to be.
At this point, I just hope I can make it through today.

Ok... day three almost done... wow I cannot believe that I am actually doing this. And those of you that are on your 2MC or even 4 MC, DAMN!!! You go! I totally get- the craving that comes along with kids around. I am trying to sit with them at dinner, but my daughter just looked at me last night for a really long time, with the big brown eyes of course. She said "momma.. do you want some of my dinner?" Oh my goodness. She is only 3, so she is probably like WHAT is she doing? She makes ME eat my dinner?
So question, what DO you say to the little ones?
As far as my reasoning for all this...
Well difficult year to be honest, as my dad passed late last year and mom was diagnosed with cancer shortly after. She is now in REMISSION!!!! YAAAA! So as a treat to myself, I wanted to clean out of all the bad energy, bad stuff that may cause something similar, and just feel like me again. So, so far I have lost 3 lbs, and feel it. I would love to get rid of my extra 20 that I have been luggin around for 10 years now... urg. So we will see, 17 to go.
However, I do not think I will go past the 10 days, sorry all... maybe next time.

Today is day 3 for me. Yesterday i had a terrible headache, and I am very glad it is gone because I feel great today! But i'm confused as I am not going to the bathroom. I am doing the tea at night and the flush in the morning. The flush happens right away and is just a yellow water. I do apologize for the details, but i'm confused that i'm not having anything solid pass. Actually, I did the first morning of the flush - but that is it. Has anyone else had this problem??

Day 3 for me too! Yippee!!
Okay from what I understand, that is how it works... the "yellow water" is everything clearing out... a good sign. :)
I have been doing the tea at night and flush next morning. I get a little BM then the yellow water too. Happy Flushing tomorrow...
I have a question about day 10... do we start drinking juice on that day or day 11... I cannot figure it out how to ease out this as a vegetarian once we are at the finish line. Anyone help me out on this one?

Well I can't answer that about the muscles with 100% accuracy but SedesGobhani, If it does use muscle first don't worry it won't use ALL of you muscle :) I have been seeing ppl on here that work out daily...4 mile jogs, etc etc etc.. you will be fine :) My next MC (2nd one) I will do my treadmill too. Not that I am afraid of losing muscle but hopefully i can Detox, lose weight and tone at the same time :)
did you google that question? Remember...when in doubt, Google It!
Thank you. Not sure what terms i would google and I'm a pretty good googler. :)

1/3 of the way to my goal. having less cravings but every day has at least 1 small one although less intense.
the lemonade is getting dull might use lime for a day or two. seems the longer im on the mc the harder it is to eat yesterday and today ive had a hard time getting the minimum of 6 in im just not hungry at all.
have more energy then i have had in 5 years the past 3 days. and needing 3 hrs less sleep each night and waking up rested.
even with those noticable perks so far and the fact ive lost roughly 20 lbs in 20 days down to 246 from 266 the next 20 days seem so long and far away

Thanks!
The body only uses muscle when it is in serious glucose starvation. We provide enough glucose with the maple syrup (or agave) that your body will not start cannibalizing itself. Your body also does not start attacking its own muscle unless it has gone long enough without ANY food for your fat reserves to be an inadequate range of nutrition. Remember we are NOT starving - as long as you are intaking the minimum number of lemonades with the correct (not reduced) amount of MS, you will be fine. I have gained muscle tone during my cleanses, when I exercise as well as cleansing.

Hi everyone, today is my third day and it's about the end of the day for me and I'm just about to drink my Smooth Move. I realized I drank under 60 oz. of my lemonade. I want to know if drinking less or more than the 6 servings would effect the cleanse in any way?
By the way, I feel more energetic than I usually do. I'm loving it! Thanks!
Lahontani
May 12th, 2011, 09:24 AM
Mr. 180 - I frequently drink 5 LAs worth instead of 6, just because I don't feel hungry. I find that my needs are different from day to day, so I never restrict my LA intake. In any given 21 day cleanse I might have 10 days that I only drink 5, about 7 days that I drink the minimum (6), 3 days that I will drink about 7, and then one day where out of the blue I'm incredibly hungry and I drink about 13.
I have learned after several cleanses that I lose the most weight when I listen to my hunger rather than counting the number of lemonades. Also, I don't strictly go by ounces any more. I will cut open 1 fruit and use all of it: I generally get about 3 T from one lime and about 5 T from 1 lemon, but it's almost always off (3 1/4 T or 5 1/3 T) due to the size of the fruit. I don't want to waste the juice, or let it lose its nutrients by sitting around oxidizing, so I will match the amount of syrup to the amount of juice, keep the water in proportion, and just make whatever size lemonade it ends up being. If it's more than I was hungry for, I carry it around with me in a bottle and sip at it for the next hour until it's gone. I keep informal track of how many Tablespoons I've had that day, just so I try to remember to get close to the minimum.
----
Today is my day 3. Days 3 & 4 are my hardest, so I'm hoping I won't blow it like I did last time. My tea didn't seem to have any effect on me last night, so this SWF better work well this morning. I tend to check the BB while I'm waiting for it to take effect. Haven't weighed myself yet, and I don't intend to until I feel I'm looking good again. But I have lost an inch from my waist in the last 2 days, so that's encouraging.
I was lying in bed today and realized something that I thought I'd write down on the BB for Peter to see and ponder. Before I started doing the cleanse, the whites of my eyes were frequently red. I have many allergies and when I'd blow my nose, there would often be flecks of blood. Also, for the last few years I had noticed that when I typed, I had started transposing letters. When I went on a cleanse, my eyes would get clear, I only had to blow my nose once or twice a day and there was no blood, and I could type with fewer transpositions. This state of a "clearer head" would last for a week or two after a cleanse, and then start creeping back. My last cleanse, in January, had such a lasting effect that my eyes stayed clear until just about a week ago, so 3 months of clear. The lack of nose blowing/bleeding extended for 3 or 4 weeks. But I am still typing without transposing the letters. I really think that the more often I cleanse, the deeper the cleanse goes and the more lasting its effects are.

Hi Honey,
I remember you! The trip to Hawaii sounds wonderful, and congrats on your son's wedding
It always seems so strange to me how few people are on the BB at other times of the year - you are the only one who posted in about 24 hours....unless there were a lot of newbies and their posts haven't shown up yet. I'm still used to January where there'll be 3 pages of posts every day.
I lost another 1/2inch from my waist, so that's 1-1/2 inches in 3 days. That wasn't just the cleanse though - I did 303 crunches for each of the last 2 days after not doing any crunches for about 3 weeks...so that tightened my slacking abs up a bit. Also, I had just come from a weekend of feasting at a Renaissance Faire the day before I started this cleanse, so I had some very recent extra fat to lose.
Day 4 - another tough day for me. If I can make it to tomorrow, I should be ok.

I have had an interesting couple of days... finishing day 5!
Aching legs for two days... :(
Last night, against recommendations from fellow master cleansers.. I went to a dinner. The interesting part was, I enjoyed the smell and just somewhat meditated about what my old choices would of been (pasta, cheese, wine, more of each, etc), and that I didn't even have to "play the game" and that was alright. Ya it was difficult, but not that difficult.
Everyday seems like I have down moments where I do not understand why I am doing this, but then there is that moment when I go to grab for a snack without even thinking about it... and I check in with what I really want. It is nice to be doing that again, and I think it is having a ripple effect... :)
All of you that have such a history with the cleanse are true inspirations. Thanks!

day 13 woke u with detox symptoms stiff muscles in neck back and legs
no cravings yet but the day just started
tungue is whiter then ever today looks like the first snow of winter on my tungue
got 17 days left on my cleanse (cheers to almost half ay on a 30 day cleanse)
did have one question
i have not been having any major detox symptoms or least doesnt feel major
just seems like i have small symptoms every day or every other day.
have been sticking to 6 glasses of lemonaide per day with 2 tbsp lemon 2 tbsp maple syrup 1/8-1/4 tsp cayenne 90k hu and 10 ounce water
my question is am i not getting enough lemon juice, or maybe i have yet to start the major detox?
i havnt had any major medications for 14-15 years but was on severe - extreme medications for 4 years and the doses were extreme but since then i have made it a goal/lifestyle not to take any meds. i eat pretty healthy 2-3 cups of veggies at least during 1 meal dont eat white bread only whole wheat.
just curious why not having strong detox symptoms or if i am mistaking them and what would be case if i am not having any

Hi Sedes! Here's a link to Dr. Mercola's site. The link to "How to Slim Your Waistline without Depriving Yourself" Says your body won't consume active muscle. End of day 5, and I'm still here - made through the "tough" days. Hope I'm not jinxing myself by saying that. Tomorrow the Amgen bike race starts up here, so I think I'll walk over to the local coffee house and sip on a peppermint tea and watch the racers go by. Feeling stiff today, but seeing results already. My tongue is still pink.
Lahontani, you are success. Failure is impossible and only happens when you give up and stop trying. Thanks for the encouragement. Nice to see you again!
is it normal to still have semi solid to almost solid bm's at 13 days in? Kinda depends on what you mean by semi-solid. GROSS DETAILS WARNING: If it's what I call "sludge" - like thick pea soup - yes, that's common. If it's like feathery strands of elimination that float and break apart the minute you flush - yes, that's common. If it's very loosely formed stools, I wouldn't say it's typical, but it's still "normal" (meaning nothing's wrong). Two thoughts: either you had a lot of toxins stuck inside your colon, OR you aren't drinking enough water. Generally, after the big morning SWF elimination, people will have small, wet, "spurt" eliminations a few times during the day (main reason to never assume it's just gas). Every once in a while someone will get a solid BM later on in the cleanse. But it's usually not every day, it's usually a rare surprise (that just goes to show that the cleanse really does work!). If you're not doing it already, try drinking 1/2 oz. of water per lb. of body weight and see if that changes things.
Hi! I'm new to the thread, and the cleanse :) I plan on starting tomorrow. Hoping for good results!Welcome! This is the thread to come to for quicker responses and for emotional support. You're going to be amazed at your results!

Yesterday (day 6) was by far my most difficult... URG! I was one unpleasant momma. My legs ached all day as well... so I was really looking forward to getting to bed to start day 7. :(
Day 7, today, still have stiff legs, so I decided to do some very basic yoga stretches... as I could not even bend over and touch the floor I was so stiff. Let me tell you.. WOW did that do wonders, I cannot recommend it enough. :)
So as I ease out of the cleanse, I am uncertain about some of the details the sequence...
Day 11: orange juice all day (only or with lemonade/SWF/Smooth Move Tea)
Day 12: fruit and veggie juices (again with lemonade/ SWF/SMT)
Day 13: Raw fruits and veggies (same ?)
Day 14: back to regular
As you can see I am looking forward to day 10... THANKS!!!!

Hello everyone,
Today is Day 7!!! So far, I havent had any major problems during the cleanse. I had some stiffness in the neck but went away of the morning elimination. Im experiencing cravings for chicken wings w/hot sauce and ketup w/fries since Day 5. Ive been working through these cravings but it is difficult at times. Another thing that Im experienced was a dream about me sleep and having an accident in the bed(I dont mean urine)lol. Sorry to be so graphic. I woke really fast and went to the bathroom so it wouldnt be a reality. Im looking forward to Day 8. Good luck to everyone on their journey during the cleanse. Have a good nite...

Yesterday (day 6) was by far my most difficult... URG! I was one unpleasant momma. My legs ached all day as well... so I was really looking forward to getting to bed to start day 7. :(

Day 12: fruit and veggie juices (again with lemonade/ SWF/SMT)
Day 13: Raw fruits and veggies (same ?)
Day 14: back to regular
Day 6 was a tough one for me, too. Since the last 2 people mentioned stiffness, I'll add that I was very stiff on day 5 (Fri.). Don't know why, that is not usually a symptom I have with the cleanse. Yesterday, day 6, I had the coldies all day and longed to eat warm toasty bagels and the beef & broccoli which my son fixed for himself. But the coldies at least made sense - it was snowing all day. They had to cancel Amgen because of it. There I was at the coffee house, with my camera, ready to watch the riders race by...me surrounded by the smell of fresh bagels, pastry, and coffee. I was good and sipped my peppermint tea...then went home when I realized that the race was postponed for 3 hours, then canceled.
But back to your questions: 1) yes, oj all day. No lemonade. It is not specified in the Cleanse rules to do the SWF or Smooth Move and most people don't cause they're sick of it. I always do, because the purpose of the two of them is to flush out the toxins that have accumulated in your colon from the day before. Your bowels have no prompt to move until they get some solid food in them, and you don't get that until veggie soup day. So I do both the tea and the SWF until the night of veggie soup day.
I can't find my Burroughs book to give you an exact quote, but Peter's book, 2nd edition, page 23, says, " to break the fast Burroughs says to drink fresh squeezed orange juice for the first and second day with homemade vegetable soup for dinner the second evening eating mostly broth and a few vegetables - no bread or crackers. The third day should be orange juice in the morning, more of the homemade vegetable soup for lunch and salads, fruits and/or vegetables for dinner. Begin eating your usual food the fourth day..."
2) Here's how I do my veggie soup day: SWF in the morning; then oj, then I start cooking the soup. It's usually done by noon, so I have a small bowl of just broth. About 2 hours later, for snack, I have another small bowl with half broth and half veggies; for dinner I have a big bowl of soup that has so many veggies there's no room for them to float in the broth - the broth just fills in the cracks between all the vegetables. I also start taking probiotics.
3) Next day I will have any 100% juice I want for breakfast, watered down; soup for lunch; salad or fruit smoothie for snack; soup for dinner.
4) Next day I'll have teechino (natural coffee substitute), a bagel (love 'em), then salad or soup for lunch; fruit, raw veggies, or a smoothie for snack, soup and a steamed veggie for dinner.
Then I'll add pasta or rice to the soup and have some meat or fish the next night. That's when I'm being good. I find it's more of a challenge to ease in slowly than to stay on the cleanse. Going back to pre-cleanse eating doesn't usually happen, because you've reset your tastebuds to only want fresh, whole foods. Just not adding in too many things too soon is the challenge for me.
There are veggie soup recipes on the "raw food lifestyle" main thread, before you get to the page for the BB. There are 2 threads, an older one "vegetable soup recipes" and a newer one "soup recipes." I like the second one better because it's all cooked soups. The first one has a lot of raw soups in it.

Hello all. I just thought I would update you all. I finished my 20 day cleanse on Mother's Day. The day I started eating again I gained almost a pound. I did dare weigh myself after that until this morning. I have not been working out and did not do as planned with easing out of the cleanse. I am eating way more healthy now though. I lost 2 pounds. The almost a pound that I gained on my first day back plus another pound. I was pretty happy.
I am guess that it has to do with making SURE that I get my acidophiles every morning plus I have started to fiber daily. Sometimes it is only in the morning (about 30 minutes after the acidophiles) or if I remember....about 15-20 before a meal. That was advice given in the South Beach Diet that I plan on starting soon.
I still have 40-50 pounds to loose. I will give South Beach a try and then do another cleanse in about 4 months.

Liking the lemonade-considering gathering up some limes and trying that variation, as well.

Hi Welljm05,
I hope you don't mind my reply...Lahontani provided the correct water ratio to consume.
Remember, "the enzymes in the lemon break down the layers of old waste in the colon...the maple syrup supplies the sugar for energy and more importantly the needed minerals. The cayenne pepper breaks up the mucus and dilate the blood vessels to accelerate the detoxification process" (p22-23) Peter's book. If you are drinking the extra water to curb your hunger, I suggest increasing your lemonade instead. Drink the lemonade no sooner than 30 minutes after the SWF and no later than two hours before bed time. Also, each person's body reacts differently. Once you cleanse a few times you will learn each cleanse may be slightly different, too. I hope this helps...Congratulations on your extended cleanse.

What kind of acidophiles do you use?
Hi Welljm05,
I suggest increasing your lemonade instead.
Lahontani any other suggestions?
Actually, no, cause there's nothing wrong. It's unusual that Jm is having semi-solid bms every day, but as long as the lemonade is in the correct ratio and the water's in the right ratio, then there's probably just a lot of toxins to get rid of. I guess the only suggestion I have is: baby oil or lotion really helps when you have to wipe that often....lol. :)

Hi everyone!! I'm back after almost 4 years of disgusting eating habits!!! Yay!! I have done this cleanse about 4 times, the last time I did it, I did it to get rid of junk food cravings to jump start a new diet. But after doing the cleanse and 13 days into the diet, I found out I was pregnant. YAY!! I was soooo happy, but also kind of disappointed that I didnt get to meet my goals. Back then I weighed about 172lbs. After I had my first baby, I got pregnant a month after he weaned himself (he was 8 months old at the time). Now my youngest son is 16 months old and I weaned him last month. BUT I weigh 205lbs now :( I'm 5'0" :( :( :( Anyway, needless to say, I NEED to cleanse my body!!! The first craving I had w/ my first pregnancy was for Chef Boyardee spaghetti and meatballs. YUCK!!! I went from totally clean to totally disgusting in about 3 months. Needless to say, I put on a lot of weight during my first trimester. When I got pregnant again, I was not at my initial weight, I weighed 202. Now, the last thing I want is to get pregnant at my current weight and not be able to at least get to a semi-normal weight before I do.
So I'm starting the cleanse. I'm going to see how long I can go on it. Hopefully it's long enough to make a significant dent on my goal at the moment. I also would like to begin a whole food diet afterward, so I NEED to get rid of the cravings for processed foods and I can think of no better way than this!! I'm excited about this and I'm looking forward to sharing my experience with you guys!! Great to be back on here! xoxo

Welcome Saccharine & Tangerina!
I am on Day 8.
Just came home from being tortured. I work at a community college and today was a student club carnival as a promotion because high school students were visiting the campus. I was working one booth. The other booths were giving away free food: hot dogs, pizza, cotton candy, ice cream with whipped cream & cherries, fresh baked tollhouse cookies, pie, chips and salsa, horchata...and worst of all, the International Club had the best looking dish (the kind of thing I actually LIKE to eat) orzo with tofu, green, red, and yellow peppers, green and red onions. It was such a beautiful, colorful confetti-like dish and smelled sooooooo good. All free. I was in between the ice cream and the tollhouse cookies booths. Torture!
My lemonade disappeared very quickly to combat all that temptation, and I just suffered through the last hour and a half, but I was good.
My boss stopped me as I was leaving to let me know she had brought in a whole bunch of pastries from a great local bake shop, as an "employee appreciation" gift. Resisted that.
Got home for lunch, so relieved that I could have some more lemonade and get away from temptation. My son had made a huge pot of spaghetti with ground beef, onions, and extra garlic. So that smelled fantastic and the smell is still filling the entire house.
Have to remind myself: 1) I don't really like regular spaghetti - it's the cheapest, easiest "ungourmet" food you can make. Well maybe second to mac & cheese. 2) I am too fat to stop now. I need to get back to where I was before I stopped eating responsibly. 3) No one is going to forget how to make any of those foods in between now and when I am off the cleanse, so anything I really want I will be able to have later. I will definitely make that orzo dish. Everything else...nyah.....it's not stuff I ordinarily want anyway. It just smells extra good right now because of the cleanse.

i think im just extremely toxic the whole reason im doing this cleanse is my body had 9 out of 10 symptoms of almost 8 different autoimmune diseases but all the tests showed normal ct scan normal doctors are at a loss and cant even find a fake disease to label me with
so i had remembered my cousin doing this a year or so back and figured it helped him it should help me.. my lifestyle used to be the worst i lived off boxed mac and cheese, hot dogs, taco bell, and frozen meals
when i was younger i had been on depakote, zoloft, dexatrine, welbutrin, Mellaril, ritalin, prozac, and a few others i cant remember..
so when you mix my old eating habits and the history of meds and how long i was eating unhealthy foods and how much i would eat it makes sense
thanks for your guys input

Kudos to you, Welljm! You're doing the best thing for your health. And now you're MORE than halfway through, right? Tell me, how many "super-energy" days have you had so far? Any? If not, you still have that to look forward to.
As for me...still in the game. I finally weighed myself and was discouraged because I thought I weighed the same as right after Christmas...then I realized, no, I was 10 lbs. less than that. So I can live with that. I can live with weight creeping back up after 3 months, as long as I keep working my way down to my goal weight. Two more days that I HAVE to do (for the min. 10), then it's all optional. I hope I can get in the right frame of mind by then, because I'm still not feeling in "cleanse-mode." My tongue became lightly coated today so I guess I just start digging in to the tough toxins.
Nighty-night lemonheads....try not to dream of cheating by eating junk food. :)

Day 10 !!!!!!!
I wanted to loose more weight than I did so far (~8lbs), so I cannot believe I am am saying this... but I may go a couple more days. I am also seeing my tongue get a little less of the yellow junk, but it isn't pink yet. I was actually on youtube couple of nights ago looking for the "pink" tongue (I know it is obvious but I just wanted to see HOW pink). Anyway, I saw some videos of people that have done this for 40 DAYS! Wow that was a motivator.
I have a doc appointment today.. a little nervous that he might yell at me for doing this... oh well
Thank you so much for all your great information Lahontani, especially on easing off the cleanse (May 16th post), it really helps. I think you are like our older sibling that watches out for us in this whole experience. I especially like this one... it made me laugh and hit home!

Hi everyone! I just started MC yesterday, so I am on Day 2. I am expecting today and tomorrow to be difficult. But I was surprised yesterday that I was not as hungry as I thought I would be. I just drank lemonade whenever I was hungry, had my husband make dinner for the kids, and I distracted myself with movies and household chores. I even managed to do a hot yoga class! I ended up drinking 7 10 oz lemonades yesterday.
So on to Day 2! I will try a hot yoga class again today. My sister just finished her second MC a few weeks ago and she recommended that I exercise through the entire cleanse if I feel up to it. She looks and feels fantastic, so I will take her advice.
One question: I am 5'4" and started MC at 133lbs. A more comfortable weight for me (clothes fit and I feel good) is between 120-123lbs. So I would like to lose between 10-13lbs while doing the cleanse. I see I am supposed to drink 6-12 lemonades a day for proper cleansing. Should I stick closer to 6 for more weight loss? Or is drinking closer to 12 better for more complete cleansing? I bought the book and can't find that answer anywhere - only the range 6 - 12. Maybe I am doing the right thing just having lemonade when I am hungry, because that is the only way I will actually stick with it for the duration.

Day 1 and I feel great!! Started w/ the tea last night and the SWF this am. The flush didnt work as it usually does, so I'm going to increase the salt and drink more water afterward. So far so good, I feel pretty great and energetic, and I'm praying that it will remain like that so I dont have any hard days. LOL! I am shooting for 2 weeks so hopefully I will have amazing results! Hey Everyone... me again...
Just thought I would share how big of an idiot I was at the doctors office...
Told the doc about that I was trying to loose a little weight and that I was on day 10 of a cleanse. He got a funny smirk on his face and said well you know that is mostly water weight that you are loosing. Then he went on to recommend weight watchers instead.
I pretty much blew that off... but was still heated about their scale adding 7 of the 8 lbs back on me.:(
Anyway... back to the idiot part...
So the doc went on to say that I needed an update on a vaccination. My daughter was with, so I thought this would be a good time to show her that they are no big deal. So I got the shot.
Then in the car... I realize that I just dumped more crap in and day 10! So do I continue for a few more days to get rid of this? Or does my body need other stuff in it to take the shot? My tongue isn't pink yet, and I know that may be 20 days in (now even more with the shot).
Yes... I am kicking myself!
** KIM... what I have heard is to LISTEN to your body on the amount... don't worry about loosing the weight, it will come off.

tungue is so white it looks like tarter sauce today
other than that im doing great and am considering doing a full 40 instead of 30 listening to my body not my mind on this

Hi Kim, welcome to the cleanse! The best thing is to listen to how many lemonades your hunger tells you to drink and not to restrict your lemonade intake based on how much weight you want to lose. The 6-12 range doesn't have anything to do with weight loss OR more complete cleansing - It has to do with how much any individual's resting daily calorie requirement is. A woman who is 5'4" needs fewer calories a day than a man who is 6'3" (for that matter she needs fewer calories than a man who is also 5'4"). You would probably be at the lower end of the scale (6 or 7 LAs) because of that. The book says you can lower the amount of maple syrup - BUT that is talking about people who have 50 or more lbs. to lose, not people who are within 15 lbs. of their goal weight. Remember, the purpose of this cleanse is to Detoxify. It's just a bonus that you lose weight. When people go into it ONLY for the weight loss, they can sometimes mess up the cleanse (and their metabolism) by trying to tweak the cleanse to lose more weight. Your body knows what is the most important health priority for you right now and it may not be weight loss. Just drink a minimum of 6 and then have more IF and WHEN you get hungry. The one exception is late at night. I try not to have any lemonades closer than 2 hours to when I go to sleep because I don't want the tea to just start eliminating all the benefits of the lemonade before my body is done using it. On days that you exercise more, or are detoxing more, you will be hungrier for more lemonade. ALWAYS drink more lemonade if you're hungry, even if it goes over 12. I have found that I still lose weight on those days, sometimes even more weight than usual.
Told the doc about that I was trying to loose a little weight and that I was on day 10 of a cleanse. He got a funny smirk on his face and said well you know that is mostly water weight that you are loosing. Then he went on to recommend weight watchers instead.

Hi phin_master - thanks for the kind words. Yeah, it's usually counterproductive to tell western MDs that you are on the cleanse. They have had it drilled into them that "fasting" is bad for you and they think all fasting is the same.
Just to remind everyone - if you are drinking 1/2 oz. of water per lb. of body weight, you have NOT, not, NOT, lost water weight. Losing water weight is for people who are dehydrated from lack of eating and drinking. If it's one thing master cleansers DO, it's DRINK. We drink all damn day!
Yes, Doctor's scales drive me crazy, too! And the staff always insists that they are accurate. But I doubt they go to the trouble to make sure their scales are calibrated correctly the way I do with mine at home. I will check mine all the time by weighing things like giant bags of cat food, free weights, etc. But don't worry - even if your scale is off, you still lost the same amount of weight, per your scale, as you have measured. It's the same 8 lbs. (or whatever amt.) off of you whether the numbers at the beginning and end match someone else's scale or not.
Now, about the vaccination....it's not the same as taking medication. A vaccination is a little bit of the disease. So, if you got a DPT, then your body now has 3 diseases it has to fight off: Diphtheria, Polio, and Tetanus. Yes, that means that your body will decrease it's detoxing somewhat to put energy into your immune system to fight off the disease(s). So, if it were me, yes, I would go a few extra days to make up for it. But more than that, I would stay on the cleanse to help me get better faster. I have only gotten sick on the cleanse ONCE. Usually, if I feel a cold coming on, the cleanse knocks it out of my system right away. If I do a cleanse at the end of fall, I don't get sick all winter! I think it's one of the best arguments in favor of the cleanse being GOOD for you...you don't get weak and sick from it, you get more energetic and avoid the usual winter colds! Staying on the cleanse is probably the best thing you can do to help yourself recover from the disease(s) you just injected into yourself.

That is so messed up that your Dr. prescribed you antibiotics for a "possible" sinus infection, diagnosed from an MRI, of all things. Hell, if your doc can't diagnose a sinus infection without using an MRI, it's not a sinus infection. Over-prescription of antibiotics is one of the main contributing factors to the evolution of super-viruses.
Everything you wrote is screaming that you are in deep detox. That IS something that is going to show up looking like an infection, because your whole system is full of toxins that you are trying to eliminate. There's toxins in your blood, in your urine, in your BMs, in your sweat, in your mucous, everywhere. Even the stiff neck is probably a detox symptom. No one on this BB can give out medical advice. But I can tell you that if a Doctor had prescribed me antibiotics while I was in the middle of a detox, I'd just continue my cleanse, as planned...and know that in a day or two all my "infection" symptoms will disappear with my morning SWF.
If I hadn't lost all those symptoms in a day or two, then I'd consider filling the prescription.
Oh, and check out the "soup recipes" thread on the "raw food lifestyle" section.

Good Night Everyone!
I've completed Day 10 and 10 lbs lighter . My detox symptoms this time around has been chills the last three days. My skin looks and feels so smooth and its clear...My tongue never gets totally pink and I'm okay with that. I should return in July 2011 for another cleanse. I convinced a workmate to join me for 10...Until then! Keep the faith...the cleanse and healthful eating 80% raw will keep the weight off. Another tip is to graze daily, five or more small servings, instead of eating three traditional meals a day....and let us not forget to drink plenty of water. I start my day with 32-52 ounces a day by 8 am.
Until next time!

Every cleanse, at least one person asks about how you know whether to stop or keep going. Here are the guidelines I use to determine when I stop. I keep this saved on my computer because it's too hard to find the last post I made of it, and they locked up the threads so people can't start new ones anymore.
How to know when/if you should stop...
1) you have completed at least 10 days
2) you are not "craving" any specific food, esp. not SAD food.
3) you desire (not crave) simple wholesome foods like salads, veggies, veggie soup.
4) you feel like you could go on, if you wanted to, but it just doesn't feel necessary.
5) You have a quiet inner feeling that you've done enough, for this time.
6) you feel like your body is now living on a different plane of good health - mentally & physically. You feel like you actually belong there - not like you're just a tourist there.
OR
7) (like one of my friends) you feel like you've lost TOO MUCH weight or are looking shriveled.
OR
8 ) Your tongue turns pink. This does not happen every cleanse, so don't count on this as "the" marker of when to quit.
Try to stop after a high energy day, not after a depressed or high detox day. The detoxes seem to come in cycles - you clean one organ/problem out, rest for a day or two (high energy day), then move on to the next organ/problem. You don't want to stop halfway through one of those detox cycles, but wait until it's finished.
----
Congrats, Tanya, on a job well done! Looking forward to seeing you here again....maybe not in July (for me)...but someday!

THANKS FOR THE ADVICE!
Also, I weighed myself and I gained 1.5 pounds since yesterday :(... my eyes are blood shot and my BM are crazy smelling. I think this is all just telling me that I have a lot more to get rid off, and to give it another couple of days. To be honest, that is what I wanted to do anyway. I am actually a little scared to stop in a way, one is to have issues at work during my first day on orange juice, and the other is to stop loosing weight (FINALLY!). My goal was to loose 12 lbs, so lets see what another couple of days can give! After the cleanse, then my plan is to loose another 12 lbs with a better diet/ workout.
So I will still be around.. ;)
Have a good day everyone!

Hi all!!
Day 2 here... yesterday morning when I posted that post, I was feeling great... around noon, when it was time to feed my kids lunch, it got REALLY hard!! I think I craved every food known to man. Cooking dinner for them was HORRIBLE. I was SO hungry! But I kept going and pushed through. This morning I weighed myself and I lost 3.5lbs!! I'm down to 201.5 now and I'm super happy and encouraged to push through during these two days that are known to be the hardest. I'm really praying that by the end of the 2 weeks I will have lost a significant amount of weight. Have a great day guys!

I finished up a 16 day mastercleanse and went straight into a raw diet. On day four on raw I got chilled and eventually realized I was runing a low grade fever. I have no other symptoms but my fever has lasted for 3 days, at times spiking to 103+. I have kept hydrated and had some homemade vegetable soup. With Tylenol my fever is now under control. I wonder though: I had Mono when I was a kid and I heard that the Eptine Barr virus stays with you for ever, could this cleanse have stirred up this virus?

Thanks for the great advice Phin and Lahontani!
Yippee, I made it to Day 3! Yesterday morning when I posted the cleanse was feeling pretty easy. I went to hot yoga again, and felt okay. But by afternoon it got really, really difficult. I had a serious headache and all kinds of cravings. I had those fleeting ideas of quitting. It wasn't so much hunger as just wishing I could eat, if that makes any sense?
My husband has been wonderful, he is taking care of the kids at night while I hide in our room and watch movies to distract myself. He brought home Chinese for dinner - that was nice of him, but even though I was in hiding, it sent me into a spiral because I was really wishing I could have some!
Luckily I have read the book as well as many comments on this board, and I have talked to my sister at length about her experience. I knew that was expected for Days 2, 3 and 7 - maybe more. So I pushed through the evening and here I am on Day 3. One-fifth done! I will try to get some exercise if I feel okay, but it is cold and rainy here today, so I may just curl up with a book and distract myself for another day.
Good luck everyone!

Day 10 and I woke up crying. That's not a good sign. Hopefully today will get better and not be too hard on me. Period started after only 19 days. oh, hurray. But maybe when it's done I will have dropped a significant chunk of weight.

Hmmm.....it's possible I suppose. With the fever starting 4 days AFTER the cleanse it's really hard to say if it's cleanse prompted or not. Was the last day of your cleanse a regular, high energy, or detox day? Because I'm thinking if you stopped the cleanse in the middle of a detox cycle, then that might be the problem. Burroughs says that if you have any issues transitioning back to normal food, it's ok to go back on the lemonade for a few days. Maybe that would help you. Take care of yourself.

day 18 here
thanks for your input lahontani and i called my old family doctor told him symptoms he said to wait it out too said to use my neti pot and do salt water flush of my nasal cavity 3-4 times a day he said that i should get a white blood count check or a swab check of nasal cavity before taking any antibiotics under same pretense of what you said causes super bacteria he said unless it turns dark yellow to green dont worry
and yes i have been checking soup section out and the other recipes and they drive me nuts
today my stiffness has spread to entire upper body and my hands are burning and itching and slightly swollen
so with my old doctors input im going to go with severe detox symptoms unless it turns green lol, but good not ive got only got about 12 days left if things start clearing up if not ill do the full 40 days
i had a question about tea specifically the senna root im using a 50% blend it has 1100 of senna root and 1000 of a mixture of 7 others, now can i take it twice a day 1 in morning after swf and one at night or just stick to 1 at night with just swf in morning
thank for the help in advance
my craving of the day is italian garlic potatoe salad, steamed potatoes cooled then covered with cold pressed olive oil cayenne peppar to taste green onions diced and minced garlic plus sea salt and fresh ground peppar then 1 tbsp of italian seasoning and toss and serve

Hi guys!! Well, day 3 here. Yesterday was not as hard, although I was pretty hungry but I was not nearly as tempted as the previous day. Today I was dreading the SWF... that stuff is just so gross, but it really works so much better than the tea in the am. So far I've lost 4lbs in 2 days. Not bad!! I'm happy with the results so far. Hopefully they remain consistent. It would be awesome to lose 28 lbs these 2 weeks! LOL! Anyway, I'm hopeful that today will not be as bad as it generally is for most people. We have guests for dinner and I will be cooking a meal, so I really pray it will not be the death of my cleanse..lol! Have a great day!

to tangerina i have been cooking alot of meals for family over the past 18 days and alot of them are my favorite foods and even ones i am craving and what i have found that helps me is when i start feeling tempted or craving it i drink a lemonaid and tell myself 2 things 1 its for my health, 2 that my health is more important then a quick fix. i have also found that posting on here when i am craving or tempted by something helps alot

Day 4, and I am feeling much better. Yesterday and Tuesday were rough (headaches, exhausted, cravings, general malaise) but today I feel like I am hitting my stride. I am getting used to the MC and understanding how often I need to drink the lemonade (every two hours, starting at 9am works for me.) I've lost 4.5 lbs so far. Hopefully today and going forward I will feel better and have more energy. If I am to believe all I have read, I think I am through the hardest part ... that is until Day 7.
Tangerina - sounds like we are in a similar place in the cleanse, as well as having to provide for family. I have cleared my calendar for these 10 days, with a few exceptions (kids' birthday parties I can't avoid, etc.) Good luck with your dinner party tonight!

Day 11. Feeling good and I have a more positive attitude toward the cleanse. Lost 1 1/2 lbs. yesterday, so that always helps my attitude! LOL. Because I am trying to get back to where I was, I have "markers" along the route: so right now I'm 9 lbs. away from where my clothes fit me the way I like.
i called my old family doctor told him symptoms he said to wait it out too said to use my neti pot and do salt water flush of my nasal cavity 3-4 times a day

The cleanse is so amazing! The itchy swollen hands, for example. I bet you didn't expect that you had some problem with your hands - and who ever hears of things like that as a symptom for disease? But my thinking is that you probably had the very beginnings of arthritis in your hands and the cleanse just cleared that away for you. What you wrote about feeling better after drinking a lemonade reminded me that CAYENNE clears up congestion. So up your amount of cayenne in the lemonades, if you can. Personally, I can't stand the standard amount of Cayenne in lemonade, so I just put a little bit in the lemonade and then take cayenne capsules. We're not supposed to do that on the cleanse, but I do it anyway. There are 2 reasons we are not supposed to take capsules: 1) your mouth needs to taste the cayenne to send the right signals to the brain for using the functional properties of cayenne to full advantage, 2) it takes digestive energy to dissolve the gelatin capsules which detracts from the cleanse. So I put some cayenne in my lemonade to take care of problem #1, and then for problem #2 I figure that, for me, the benefits of more cayenne outweigh the negative effects of having to digest the gelatin capsule. But I've been cleansing for a long time, and the general rule is to do the cleanse completely by the book for at least the first cleanse, and probably for the first 2 before you start tweaking and personalizing the cleanse for yourself.
As for your tea question, the tea and the SWF work together - the analogy Peter gives is that it's like the wash and rinse cycle of your washing machine. They're both important, but neither (wash and wash) nor (rinse and rinse) would give you as good of results as doing one of each. When you eat badly, your digestive system forms these little pockets that bulge out of your intestines, called diverticula, filled with partially digested food. When the decaying food in the diverticula get infected it's called diverticulosis. Senna makes your digestive muscles contract, so...in addition to sloughing off the sludge that's lining the main part of your colon, the tea causes the sac contents to squeeze back out into the main part of the intestine. The movement of your intestines (peristalsis) will make those tiny bits of gunk move down the tract little bit. BUT if it sits in any one part for too long, it can be reabsorbed instead of eliminated. That's why a quart of salt water is the best thing to just flush it right out of there. A second tea might eliminate that waste, or might just push it another 1 - 2 feet down the tract and leave it there. See tangerina's comments, above.
The Italian potato salad sounds great - but...no basil? or oregano? I would definitely add those. I'm going to have to take your recipe and use it when I'm off the cleanse, thanks!
Great news on your weight loss! I wouldn't count on the 28, though. I have lost that much, but generally it takes a 30 day cleanse to do it. Also, the closer you are to your goal weight, the longer it takes to lose it. So if 28 lbs. will take you to your goal...probably count on doing another cleanse in the summer to get there. Best wishes on being strong during your dinner party. For me, days 3 & 4 are the hardest, so prepare yourself mentally as well as having plenty of lemonade at hand ready to go!

Hi guys!! Day 4 here... feeling amazing!! Thanks so much for the well wishes Kim! The dinner went great. There were a couple of times while I was serving the food that I thought, "hey, what's a little cheating gonna do?" and I considered throwing the cleanse to the curb, BUT... I endured!!! Even through the key lime pie!!!!! OMG that was soooooo hard!! My husband was totally teasing me with it as well! I'm so proud of myself today :) :) :)
@Lahontani... if I lose 28lbs I will still be considered severely obese :(, so I'm praying that I do get to lose the 28 since usually when you're really overweight you tend to lose faster until you get closer to your goal. If not, I'm happy with whatever, but it's a nice dream! LOL!!!
I'm glad yesterday is over and today I've lost a total of 5.5lbs!!! yay!! not bad for 3 days, down below 200 today and feeling amazing. My complexion is starting to really look great and glowy and I feel like my cravings are starting to wane.

Tangerina - congrats on being strong through the dinner & key lime pie! Don't be discouraged about the "severely obese" label. The cleanse is going to reset your tastebuds and take you one step closer to a healthy weight. Keep doing the cleanse (Burroughs recommends once per season) and you will just keep getting better and better. I've found that the slower I transition back to regular food, the more stable my weight loss is.
----
Day 12. Lost another 1 -1/2 lb. yesterday! Yay! Definitely starting to feel like myself again. Speaking of key-lime pie...yesterday I was at the grocery store and there was a big ad for sheet cakes (for graduations, etc.) and it looked awful and fake, so I dared to go into the bakery section. They had a key lime CAKE with white chocolate shavings that looked fantastic. And a giant tiramisu made with rum instead of Marsala. And chocolate raspberry...lol, so I still have a lot of detox to do. Cause by the time I'm "clean" cake just looks useless and a head of cauliflower (sprinkled with cayenne) looks tastier than cake.

Just wanted to check in... I am easing out... it was a good.. no GREAT experience! I feel amazing and I am taking the advise in taking it slow on the way out. I completed 11 days... and as of this morning (day 12) I lost 11.8 lbs (my goal 12 lbs). And I agree with Lahontani, the closer you are the harder it is to loose those last ponds... I am now 14 lbs away from my goal weight... anything after that is just bonus. I am 5ft 8 in and started at ~200 and done at 188 lbs... feeling much more like me!!! :)
As far as the vaccination... no real signs of detox after that day 10... my BM was light brown the next morning... and day 11 was really a nice day...

Great job welljm!! And thanks for the tip Lahontani!
I planned on Wednesday the 1st being my orange juice day, and the 2nd being my soup day. (It's my 5 year wedding anniversary that day) So I figured I better be weaning myself out of the cleanse so I can go on dates w/ the hubs over the weekend. We are going to Panama City and I CANNOT wait!! On Friday I will be eating only raw foods, hopefully the weekend will be super laid back and my hubs wont want to trash his stomach out with unhealthy food. LOL!!! When we return I'm starting a 2nd cleanse to get me closer to my goal weight and to make it easier to work out since right now my extra weight is just really weighing me down when I try to.
Today was pretty good... We spent a good time at our friend's house and I was glad I took enough lemonade to keep my hunger at bay for a few hours. I've been really hungry today. I havent really craved anything but everything smelled really good, so I took really huge whiffs of everything! LOL! I could tell today was a major detox day because my face really broke out and I had hives almost all day.
That was one thing I wanted to ask about, does the cleanse deal with allergies such as hives? I dont really know what i'm allergic to but I have been taking Claritin for almost a year to deal with hives that I just break out in suddenly out of nowhere and go away really quickly. I started getting them when I turned 30. I've tried cutting out different foods, changing my comforter, cleaning like crazy but nothing has worked and I have no idea what sets them off. I was really hoping that the cleanse deals with allergies like those because it would be really amazing to not have them when the cleanse is over. I stopped taking the claritin for the cleanse and the 1st two days i had minor outbreaks but today has been non-stop and I cant figure out if it's because the claritin is finally all out of my system or if it's because my body is detoxing.
Anyway, at this rate, I'm really looking forward to getting on the scale in the morning! I have not been excited about that in a really long time. I really just needed a push into progress so I can get motivated. Does anyone know if the cleanse gets rid of fat or just waste and water weight?
Ok, night night everyone!

Day 13. Down another 1-1/2 lbs.!! That's just amazing for so late in the cleanse. But then I was dancing (Tahitian) for 2-1/2 hrs. and then worked out at the gym for another hour after that. That was one thing I wanted to ask about, does the cleanse deal with allergies such as hives? Does anyone know if the cleanse gets rid of fat or just waste and water weight? Great progress! Only a few more days to go! I'd like to add a caution about doing the cleanse when you come back from your trip. Many times on the BB people ask how close together you can do cleanses. Neither Burroughs nor Peter give a definite time period between cleanses, so a few cleanses ago I calculated it out. Burroughs recommends doing 1 cleanse per season.
365 days per year divided by 4 seasons = 91 days.
Burroughs says you can do a cleanse up to 40 days "and beyond" so for convenient math, I count that as 42.
91 days - 42 = 49 days.
So I consider the original advice to mean a minimum of 7 weeks between cleanses.
My first year cleansing I thought: If I can cleanse for 40 days in a row in a 91 day season, then why can't I cleanse once a month for 10 days each (or 30 days, separated) in the same 91 days? So I tried that. My results were: 1) it became harder and harder to get motivated for each new cleanse; I would postpone them; I would start and then eat on the third or fourth day, 2) with each subsequent cleanse I lost less weight, 3) I started binging in between cleanses instead of switching to a healthier diet.
Eventually I got burned out on the cleanse, stopped doing it and slowly gained all the weight back. I think I only did one cleanse the whole next year, and that just brought me down to halfway where I was before - it was like a life preserver keeping me from sinking all the way back to where I'd started, but it didn't pull me out of the water. Then 2 years ago, I had a big event and wanted to look good. I was so discouraged to get on the scale and see I'd gained it all back. Since then I have gone on a cleanse about once per season (I think I did one short extra one, last year, for an event) and have lost 70 lbs. altogether (in 2 years). Every once in a while I try to go on a cleanse too soon and find that with those, I just can't seem to get past day 4 without cheating. My most stable weight loss seems to be when I ease out of the cleanse slowly and make a conscious effort to eat soup, salads, and smoothies afterwards.
Allergies: I have a mild allergy to about 40 different things, so I live in a state of perpetual allergies, even in winter. The cleanse helps my congestion/sneezing/breakouts while I am on the cleanse and for 1 - 2 weeks afterwards, then they start creeping back. My friend who has very few allergies says that going on the cleanse takes away her allergy symptoms for months, almost an entire year. Hives can be triggered by anxiety. Try an epsom salt or epsom salt and baking soda bath. Yes, it could be the cleanse removing the claratin residue, or removing the toxin that causes the allergic reaction...hard to say. Once you're back on "real" food, see if you can keep a journal (food, activities, topical treatments) to try to pinpoint what causes the hives. For food, think ingredients, not finished products ("wheat" or "eggs" as opposed to pizza, etc.). Shampoo, toothpaste, and soap count, too. I found I cannot have sex when using deodorant soaps without a painful reaction, even though I don't notice any symptoms from deodorant soaps when I don't have sex.
Finally, YES, the cleanse removes actual fat, not just toxins. As I said above, I have lost 70 lbs. in 2 years just from the cleanse. That's not all water weight! You will also lose inches.

Good for you! On days when the scale doesn't move, then I get out the tape measure and see what I've lost in inches, so I won't be discouraged by a plateau on the scale. Honestly I care more about the inches than about the number on the scale! But between the two, I keep myself encouraged.

I am the same way. Once a season is more than enough. If I force it I feel miserable and I can't do more than a few days on MC. And I've learned that 'easing out' is even more important than 'fasting' in terms of maintaining the benefits of fasting.

Lahontani, thank you SO much for all of this insight!! You know, I've been reading a lot about cleansing and the master cleanse on other websites and people are just so against it saying that you only lose water weight and waste blah blah blah, but I've read testimonials and seen youtube videos of people who have actually lost 35-40lbs at a time during a 40 day cleanse and I'm just like, "that cannot be all water!" There's no way I'm retaining 40lbs of water.. holy crap! LOL!
Guess I need to dust off my book and re-read it. LOL
Anyway, so now that I'm equipped with amazing advice about how often to do the cleanses, here's the thing. I am 5'0".. so the ideal weight for me would be 128 or less. At this point I need to lose 80lbs. EEEK!!! Mainly because my BMI right now is 39.3 :( I know... It's so unhealthy. Anyway, I dont intend on losing all the weight just from cleansing, but I do want to use the cleanses as motivation to get to my goal weight, which is actually 135-140... When I weighed that much, I was happy and felt confident enough. I also want to cleanse every season because I want to keep my eating habits healthy, and there's nothing else I've ever done other than the Master Cleanse that takes away my cravings for junk food and disgusting things that make me gain weight. However, I have only ever done the cleanse when I was really close to my ideal weight, so I either never lost weight on it or lost a pound or two by the end of the cleanse.
Have you gained any of your weight back? If so, how much? and what do you do in between cleanses to keep your weight in check? Do you also work out during your cleanses?
How long would you recommend me going during each cleanse?
I know i know!! A lot of questions, but I'm kind of disappointed that I cannot cleanse longer than 14 days and that I started this late in instead of 2 weeks ago when it would've really given me an extra 2 weeks of progress. But if I cleansed during our anniversary weekend, my husband would be really sad and so would I since we already know where we're gonna eat etc. :( So it's also disappointing to hear that I shouldnt get right back into the action upon our return. LOL! I really do understand why though and I'm absolutely going to take your advice. ;)

Day 1 (again :o) I had a couple of false starts. I really need this though - the allergies, lack of sleep, etc are all getting to me. Not to mention the fact that I've gained some weight and we are closing on swimsuit weather. We are taking the family to cancun in three weeks and I really don't want to be stuck wearing the grandma bathing suit. :p
So that means this time I need to workout as well. I've never understood how people can work out while on the cleanse. If lack of energy isn't bad enough, I just feel like after the SWF, I totally feel like doing some lunges or squats would be a dangerous thing

I am a runner and I have a hard time running on MC. Instead, I jump on my bike ever day, because it's easier. I noticed that when I exercise on MC my weight loss is slightly higher and I don't regain the weight. Maybe you can do long walks.
Day 4 and I'm breaking out like crazy. Ugh.

Oh no - I forgot about the break outs. Oh all the stuff to look forward to. I'm just trying to get down as much LA as possible so I wont feel so weak but as usual, I can't drink it too fast or the heartburn will hit.
I think you are right - long walks may have to be my thing. It's already afternoon and I don't feel "safe" to do squats yet.
It does make me wonder if it's even possible to do the SWF late evening instead of morning. I do prefer to work out in the mornings. Hard to make me do it in the afternoon.

Hi All,
I have posted a few times this week under my full name, which was pulled in by Facebook. I was finally able to create a more anonymous profile (at first I kept getting rejected as a potential spammer, so I resorted to FB!?!), so here I am again!
I am wrapping up Day 7 and feeling okay. I had read that Day 7 was potentially one of the worst, but fortunately that has not been my experience. I would say I have medium energy, the headaches of the first few days are gone and I am used to not eating. Don't get me wrong - I can't wait to START eating again, but I feel like I can power through the last few days.
An interesting development for me has been that I don't crave alcohol at all. Usually I drink wine every day. I also use some form of sleep aid almost every night (OTC, Xanax, etc.) I have not used any sleep aids, and I have been sleeping fine! So, something good is happening here - I think the break from both will help me cut down or quit both.
I am surprised that the scale has stayed the same for the past 3 days, after losing about 4.5 lbs in the first 3 days. I wonder if that is because I did hot yoga the first two days and have not exercised much (beyond yard work) since? I plan to drink some lemonade and get on the elliptical soon, as my husband kindly took my kids out to eat.
BMs have been surprisingly light, I keep wondering if I am really cleansing. SWF works, just not much there (a little every day, just not the level where am thinking "oh, now THAT's why I did this!") I understand that some people keep going till their tongue is completely pink, but psychologically, I think 10 days is all I can handle, regardless of what my tongue looks like. That's what I committed to do, and I am very much looking forward to hitting that goal and moving on (this is my first MC.) I am already planning a sushi dinner as soon as I get myself back on solid food! :D
I have not yet felt that great sense of well being people talk about. My feeling now is more of acceptance - acceptance that I have a few days left, and that I WILL complete the MC. After the past 7 days, I have to complete this to see if I really do look and feel so much better.
My weight loss hope (and I do realize this is not about weight loss, that it is a side benefit) was 8-10lbs in 10 days. So far I have lost about 5 lbs in 7 days. We'll see what happens in the next few days!
Have a great night, everyone!

I am already planning a sushi dinner as soon as I get myself back on solid food!
First of all congrats on the seven days.
I just wanted to point out that sushi is high in sodium (not to mention it's not wise to eat raw fish from Japan these days) and you may experience high bloat if you eat it soon after MC. If you can wait a week or so, it would probably be better for you. Our bodies are strong (that's why we can fast for so long), but sensitive, too. I feel that sensitivity (to food) even more after a fast.

Hi guys!!!
This is actually day 7 for me..haha!! I thought it was 6 sorry!
Things are going well here... I feel good, but I feel drained if you know what I mean. I am starting to notice the weight loss now.. as I'm down 9.5lbs in 6 days!! Amazing!! I'm starting to really believe that I will have lost at least 20lbs by the time I'm done which will be a huge encouragement and boost into starting my workouts and new whole food diet when I'm done! yippee!!
HOWEVER... the senna tea is really becoming my nemesis. It's so disgusting and I hate the aftertaste. I actually like the SWF better than the tea if you can believe that. I dread having to boil my water and the smell just makes me almost gag. Also, it's causing severe cramps in the middle of the night and I have to get up and go to the bathroom, where I continue cramping for a long time and I cant get back to bed until the cramping is over :( Does anyone know if the tea is a requirement in the evenings? I feel like it's causing me to lose a lot of sleep because after I'm done in the bathroom, I'm wide awake and it's hard to get back to sleep. I feel like this is why I'm feeling drained and tired because I'm only sleeping about 5 hours a night due to the cramps.
@Molunat, thanks for the info on sushi... my hubs and I were actually planning on a sushi dinner about 4 nights after my cleanse is over, so I think I will pass on that for now. lol!
Any help on the tea would be appreciated.. have a great day!!!

Any help on the tea would be appreciated.
Let the tea cool a little bit and sip it with a straw. How late do you go to bed? I usually have my senna right before I turn the lights off, so that the cramps wake me up as late as possible.

Thanks for the great advice - maybe I will put off that celebratory dinner a few more days. :)
So, I made it to day 8 and I am not feeling great, not terrible but not great - in fact I am feeling kind of depressed. I have committed to 10 days and I am closer than ever, yet 3 more days sounds like an eternity. I have been roughly the same weight for 4 days now, and I am not experiencing increased energy or anything close to clarity of mind. All I am really feeling is kind of despondent. I keep having to talk myself out of quitting, I am so over it.
A few questions:
1) I have been drinking roughly 6-7 lemonades a day, plus water and herbal tea. I would say all in, I consume about a gallon of liquid a day, including the SWF. Is this too little?
2) I felt like the herbal tea was not working well (never really has for me, even pre-MC) so took a recommendation from anther site and have used herbal laxative tabs (Swiss Kriss) at night before bed. I know this was not recommended in Burroughs' book, but is it a problem? (There is no coating on the tabs to digest.)
3) Does more lemonade = more detoxification = better cleanse? I was reading a thread that said if you need to "take it easy", limit lemonade to 6 glasses. Does that mean there is less detox at that level? I am 5"4, 130lbs so I am not sure what the right amount is - I have been drinking one lemonade roughly every 2 hours, starting at 9am.
4) Exercise - I have not been exercising much since the first 2 days as my energy level has not been great. I did do lots of heavy yard work over the weekend, but have not been doing yoga or running. Should I be trying to exercise more?
Thanks for your help!

Day 15. Have been on a weight plateau for the last 2 days, which is discouraging. All food looked so good last night, I just wanted to pack it in and eat something. But I didn't. Yesterday I typed up my usual long response to questions and then accidentally hit one wrong key and it all disappeared. Didn't feel like typing it all up again. But now I'm sitting here waiting for the SWF to work so here goes:
Have you gained any of your weight back? If so, how much? and what do you do in between cleanses to keep your weight in check? Do you also work out during your cleanses?
How long would you recommend me going during each cleanse?
I gain about 3 lbs. back after I have been eating for a few days. I figure that's just the food being digested and waste products waiting to be eliminated. I find that if I am conscientious about eating very well that I don't gain weight, but if I have even ONE "splurge" dinner, I will gain. Generally, my pattern goes like this: go on the MC, lose approx. 20 lbs., over the next 7 - 10 weeks gain back 10, go on the MC, lose 20 lbs. (the 10 I just gained back + another 10). So that way I am slowly making my way down to my goal weight. I have lost 70 lbs. over the past 2 years (about 40 the first year and about 30 the second year). I have seen others on this BB who do not gain the weight back, or who gain it back much more slowly. But I have leaky gut syndrome - which is why I gained so much weight in the first place. The MC is one of only 2 things that helps me lose weight at all because I do not absorb all the nutrients out of my food and don't digest it correctly. I am getting better slowly, but there was a time when I could not eat a salad without the whole thing showing up, wilted but intact, in the toilet.
Yes, I work out during the cleanse as much, sometimes more, than when off the cleanse. I lose weight faster that way. There are days when I do 3 work-outs for a total of 4 hours worth of exercise per day. (Spinning, cardio, weights, hot yoga). I find that on days when I feel blah, if I just take it easy, at some point in the workout, the energy will kick in. As always, it's the forcing yourself to START the work-out that's the hard part.
How long? A few days back I posted my guidelines on "when to quit" - go check that one out. Once past 10 days, I set small goals for myself: 3 more days and I will be able to fit into my "good" jeans, then 4 more days and I will be able to fit into that new dress that's a little too tight, etc. But I usually have a long-term goal (21 days or 30 days) that is determined more by available time before commitments where I would have to eat.
So that means this time I need to workout as well. I've never understood how people can work out while on the cleanse. If lack of energy isn't bad enough, I just feel like after the SWF, I totally feel like doing some lunges or squats would be a dangerous thing  If I have an exercise class in the morning, I do the SWF after I get back from class, not before. You just can't eat anything (except water) before doing the SWF. I generally do the SWF first thing in the morning and then don't exercise until the afternoon or early evening. Also, see what I wrote to tangerina, above.
NO Detox symptoms today heh
Had a question are off smells a detox symptom?
Everything smells nasty today and my mouth tastes like car oil don't ask how I know the taste long story short wrong place under car changing oil in high school auto class lol Glad to hear you're feeling better. Maybe you're detoxing the residue of that oil in the mouth accident from high school, lol! The bad taste in the mouth is definitely detox. Some days I brush my teeth 10 times to try to get rid of that taste and the fuzz that you feel are coating your teeth. Usually your sense of smell is intensified on the cleanse. This isn't a detox symptom, but rather an survival mechanism. When our ancestors were hunting and gathering, and very very hungry, their sense of smell helped them locate food. It also helped them avoid contamination and disease. Pregnant women also develop a more intense sense of smell to help them avoid food poisoning, etc. that the fetus would be hurt by. Often cleansers notice that other people's breath and body odor is particularly foul. Also chemicals, trash, etc. smells extra bad. Very common, but not detox.
Oh no - I forgot about the break outs. Oh all the stuff to look forward to. I'm just trying to get down as much LA as possible so I wont feel so weak but as usual, I can't drink it too fast or the heartburn will hit.
It does make me wonder if it's even possible to do the SWF late evening instead of morning. I do prefer to work out in the mornings. Hard to make me do it in the afternoon. Damn! I am breaking out for the last 2 days, too! Coinciding with the no-weight-loss plateau. Double blow.
Anyway, if you're getting heartburn from the lemonade, cut down a little on the cayenne. The cleanse isn't supposed to hurt.
No, you can't do the SWF in the late evening. 1) you are not supposed to have all those toxins sitting in your colon all day long - they will be re-absorbed and make you feel sick and cranky. 2) you cannot eat (drink lemonade) before the SWF, or you will just flush out all the lemonade before your body can get the benefits of it - and you can't go all day without drinking any lemonade. See what I wrote about working out in the mornings, above.

That's what I was afraid of. But I have to get all the kids up and off to school in the morning so then I wouldn't have a class until 8:30 or 9 depending on the schedule. So then I wouldn't start the flush until 10:30 and have to wait for that to work before I can drink LA and by then I think I'd be too tired and weak and stuff. I guess I'll have to either suck it up and work out in the late afternoon (though that is the worst time energy and emotion-wise for me on the cleanse), or try to get up extra early and do some kind of light workout at home before I wake the kids. Waking up before I have to - now that's rough!

Most people lose a lot their first few days, then the weight loss slows down. Very likely your body had so many toxins right on the surface from all the sleep aids that it didn't need to start digging into your fat to find toxins to remove.
Also, it sounds as if you need help with the SWF. Once you have that working better, you should notice a better weight loss. It is normal to have very little, if any, BMs during the day. But the entire quart of salt water should come out, turned brown or dark yellow with toxins, after each SWF. Some people need to up the salt ratio slightly to get the correct effect. Try using rounded tsps. of salt instead of flat. If that doesn't do it, up it to 2-1/2 tsps.
In all my cleanses, I've only gotten to a pink tongue 2, maybe 3, times. I marked those, below, with a pink "P" at the end of the cleanse days. Don't worry about doing more than 10. This is your first cleanse. 10 is plenty. You may still have some high energy/sense of well-being days. If you're having one on day 10, you just may feel like continuing on. I have found that the more cleanses I do, the longer I want to go. It doesn't feel like a hardship, I genuinely feel more comfortable going longer and digging deeper into my accumulated toxins. Listen to your body. You're doing great.
Things are going well here... I feel good, but I feel drained if you know what I mean.
HOWEVER... the senna tea is really becoming my nemesis. I feel like this is why I'm feeling drained and tired because I'm only sleeping about 5 hours a night due to the cramps.
Any help on the tea would be appreciated.. If you feel "drained", drink more lemonade. Make sure you are taking the full amount of maple syrup and not cutting back.
Are you drinking pure senna tea or the smooth move blend? Because pure senna tea is NASTY, and I wouldn't be able to get it down either. Smooth Move has regular and "chocolate" flavor. There are other natural laxative teas, too, in the health food store. They all have senna in them, but they taste better because they are herbal blends. Yes, it is required, at least for the first 10 days. Some extended cleansers start skipping the tea every once in a while because they don't want their bodies to become dependent on senna.
Second, if you want to cut down on the cramping, don't make the tea so strong. Steep the tea for just a minute, so that it is very light brown, not dark brown. You need to find the right strength for YOUR body that will still have an effect without waking you up in the middle of the night. I only steep my tea for about 30 seconds. I take it immediately before I go to bed, wake up with very mild cramps about 1 hour before I would normally wake up, and then go back to bed.
I have been roughly the same weight for 4 days now, and I am not experiencing increased energy or anything close to clarity of mind. All I am really feeling is kind of despondent...
1) I have been drinking roughly 6-7 lemonades a day, plus water and herbal tea. I would say all in, I consume about a gallon of liquid a day, including the SWF. Is this too little?

4) Exercise - I have not been exercising much since the first 2 days as my energy level has not been great. I did do lots of heavy yard work over the weekend, but have not been doing yoga or running. Should I be trying to exercise more?
Depression is a detox symptom. Hang in there, it will get better.
1) What is recommended is 1/2 oz. of spring water per lb. of body weight in addition to the water in the lemonade and in the tea. It's a lot of water, when you're not used to it, but I find that the more water I drink, the more weight I lose.
2) Rather than trying laxative pills, which will NOT have all-natural ingredients, and are therefore not allowed, try different kinds of tea (this will be cheaper than the pills, too.) See what I wrote about laxative teas to tangerina, above.
3) The amount of lemonade you need depends more on what your daily resting caloric expenditure is. I answered this question a few days ago, so go back and look for that post. Bottom line: drink lemonade when you're hungry, weak, or depressed, even if that goes over the maximum recommended 12 lemonades. Listen to your body - it knows what you need to detox to full effectiveness.
4) You should keep doing the same amount of exercise you did before the cleanse. Some days people are detoxing and just feel like they need to lie down and sleep. That's ok, but you want to keep up the same general amount of exercise per week as you did before the cleanse. On high energy days you can intensify your workout, or extend it a little longer, but don't go over-board or you'll burn out on the exercise part.

That's what I was afraid of. But I have to get all the kids up and off to school in the morning so then I wouldn't have a class until 8:30 or 9 depending on the schedule. Waking up before I have to - now that's rough! One thing I have done, when my kids were still in school, was to get the SWF all ready to go and chug it right before I drove them. It always takes about 30 - 40 minutes for me before it works. That way, I could drive them to school, come back, and then spend only about 1/2 hour running to the bathroom. I generally have 4 -5 SWF eliminations. So I would get ready for my spin class, going maybe 3 - 4 times while I was getting ready, then drive to the gym, immediately go to the bathroom before class, and I was able to work-out. It's a hassle, but it's only for 10 days, and at least 2 of those, the kids won't be going to school. If you only go to exercise class 2 - 3 times a week, then that's only 2 -3 days of hassle. Good luck!

Lahontani, I dont know what I'd do without you!!! I've been following the directions on the tea box and it says to steep it for 10-15 minutes. I didn't know you could steep it for a shorter amount of time and it would still work, that will definitely help in the taste arena. I'm using Smooth Move. I used to buy the Yogi Get Regular for my previous MC's but I didnt like that one either, so I decided to change it for this one. The first few nights I used more water but still steeped that long. As the taste gradually made me more disgusted, I used less and less water but still steeped just as long. LOL! Now I know why my cramps have gotten worse and worse.
Hopefully tonight I'll be able to drink it better and not wake up at the crack of dawn folding over in pain! Thanks!! So after 10 days, can I just stop taking it at night? Or is that going to cause problems?

Have more energy and tongue is looking more pink today

Thanks, Lahontani! You are so incredibly helpful, I really appreciate your sage advice!!
I think I have not been drinking enough water. This is a problem for me in non-MC life as well. I will focus on that for my last few days. As for the laxative, I will go back to Smooth Move (already in my cupboard) and maybe have two cups instead of one.
Part of this seems like such a mental game - just counting down, getting closer to the end. Hopefully I will feel great tomorrow and Thursday (Days 9 and 10), and I won't be watching the clock so closely!
Thanks again, I really appreciate the input!

Ha, ha. I know, some of these smells and flavors, day in day out, become oppressive. I take my senna around 11pm. It wakes me up around 5am or 6am. But, that I can handle. What I have hard time with is insomnia which kicks in on the 7th day or so.
4) You should keep doing the same amount of exercise you did before the cleanse. Some days people are detoxing and just feel like they need to lie down and sleep. I wish I could exercise as much as I do normally, but running 6 to 7 miles five times a week is just not doable for me. And I normally go to the gym after my runs to do core workout. I substitute running for cycling when fasting. I think it's important to exercise on MC, but I would suggest that people listen to their bodies, first and foremost, and modify their workout routine if necessary.

Lahontani, I dont know what I'd do without you!!! I've been following the directions on the tea box and it says to steep it for 10-15 minutes...
So after 10 days, can I just stop taking it at night? Or is that going to cause problems? Laxative tea is made for people who are constipated, not for cleansers. Therefore, they need the extra oompf of a strong tea - that's why the directions tell you to steep it for so long!
No, you can't just stop taking it. Sorry I wasn't clear about that. What I meant was: SOME people who do 21 - 40 day cleanses will SOMETIMES skip a day or two. Something like 4 days of tea, then one without, then 4 days of tea, one without. You want to keep using the tea, just not get too dependent on it. But are you even planning on going that long?
Down 30lbs and 2 pant sizes
My senna tea is starting to have less of effect can I increase amount of senna taken I'm steeping mine 30-45 mins to get a decent effect should I use 2 bags and make 2 batches or stop for few days?? It is smooth move and is only 50% blend
30 lbs. in 22 days! Wow! Wish it were me!
I can't believe you are steeping your tea for 30 - 45 minutes!
Does it even get darker after, say, 20 minutes?
Were you constipated frequently before starting the cleanse?
What are you calling a "decent effect" ?
I know that tea that strong would just kill me with cramps! You don't really need to get a lot of volume out from the tea, you know. The tea is supposed to loosen the caked on and embedded toxins, and then the SWF washes them out. You don't need the tea to do it all by itself. But if the cramps aren't killing you, you're doing the SWF daily, and you STILL see minimal effect from just one bag of tea...then go ahead, and use 2 bags...every body's different, I guess. You certainly are seeing excellent results the way you're already doing it - major detox and major weight loss.
Part of this seems like such a mental game - just counting down, getting closer to the end. Hopefully I will feel great tomorrow and Thursday (Days 9 and 10), and I won't be watching the clock so closely! Yes, the cleanse is VERY mental. I think it was Res (one of the moderators) who said it was 90% mental. Keep up the good work!

Well, that's why I said "the same general amount of exercise per week" not the EXACT same exercise routine. And, yes, it's always important to listen to your body, especially when you're doing something extreme, like the cleanse. BUT...and this is really important...if someone is feeling weak or run-down, low-energy, etc. for 10 whole days...something's wrong. They may not be drinking enough lemonade, or putting enough maple syrup in it, or not drinking enough water, or even skipping their tea or SWF. Anyone who is too low energy EVERY DAY to do their usual exercise routine, needs to re-check how they are doing the cleanse. If they are doing the cleanse right, they should be able to get in about the same amount of exercise per week, if not per day. In your case, it sounds like running 6 - 7 miles is a TIME issue, or perhaps a working-around-the-SWF issue, not a low energy issue.

Thanks for your response. I can do everyday things fine, I don't feel tired, but running is different. It is not a time issue, it's a stamina and energy issue that is required for such a workout. And I do follow MC to a T. In general, I noticed that every fast is slightly different even though I do them all same way. It may have to do with the time of month I do a fast, or a season. I am not sure. They're never the same. So, you have to add that to the mix, too.
I am not saying that someone else wouldn't be able to do "the same general amount of exercise per week" (obviously, a lot of you do), but I do not believe there is a formula that fits every person. If I learned something form doing physical therapy for a running injury last summer is that you and you alone know what is 'right' for your body.
I'd be curious to hear from other runners here, if they manage to keep the same mileage on MC.

Day 8!!
Feeling amazing! I dont know if it's because my body feels amazing or because I'm just so happy with my weight that I dont know what to do with myself. LOL!!!
11lbs so far in 7 days!!! AMAZING!! If I can get in to the 180's that would be so wonderful and encouraging for me!
Lahontani, i steeped my tea last night for 30 seconds and it's definitely doable from now on. haha! It tasted completely different. I dont think it was strong enough however as I didnt have a BM this am. So tonight I will steep it for a minute. I'm really wanting to go for 21 or 35 days, but I can only go for 14 this time around :( I cant imagine the results if I could keep going. I started at 205 and I'm at 194 today. I'm more than pleased although I'm still severely obese for my height. My waist has also dropped 2 inches in 2 days, so I cannot complain!
Last night the family and I went on a 3mile walk and it was great. I started off pretty tired, but by the end of it I felt really great. It's the first exercise I've had during the cleanse and pretty much in the past month ..LOL
Have a great day everyone!

Congrats! Just wanted to say that is good to end MC before you're 'really done' with it, mentally. It will motivate you for the next one.
Day six for me, so I'm half way through.:)

Thanks Molunat.
That is so true... I remember my first cleanse, I did it for 21 days and I was done mentally with it way before that and I could not cleanse again for another year or two. It was awful!
The good news is that my BMI has dropped from 40 to 37.9. I'm still in the danger zone, but it's really nice to be progressing out of it!!

Today is Day 16! Am trying a new type of sea salt today, cause I ran out of my favorite Balinese Sea Salt. This one's pink. It tastes ok, better than the cheapest bulk sea salt, but not as savory as the Balinese. Lost a lb., so I'm glad I'm off that short plateau.
If I can get in to the 180's that would be so wonderful and encouraging for me!

It's the first exercise I've had during the cleanse and pretty much in the past month ! Great news on your weight loss and higher energy! The 180s are only 5 lbs. away! That's entirely possible in 6 days, especially since you just added exercise to the mix! Your leg muscles may be sore today and tomorrow after not walking in such a long time, but they will feel better once they warm up with some more walking. Just be sure to take it easy - nice and slow, and don't feel like you have to match the 3 miles you did yesterday. The important thing is you're moving. :) Oh, and the post for my guidelines of when to quit is #2095...was it you who was asking about how to know when you should quit?
I don't feel tired, but running is different. It is not a time issue, it's a stamina and energy issue that is required for such a workout. And I do follow MC to a T. They're never the same.
I'd be curious to hear from other runners here, if they manage to keep the same mileage on MC. Well, I'm not a runner (and never will be - I have a large bust, even when thin, and it hurts to run), so maybe there are differences. Especially with a 6 mile run; that must take a long time. The most I exercise in one stretch is an hour and a half. I find that even if I feel low energy at the beginning of my work-out, as long as I take it easy on myself, that my energy will boost at some point and then stay high to the end. I always feel like I could keep going, but the class is over, or I have an appt. I need to get to. Who knows, maybe if I exercised for 2 - 3 hours, I would feel worn out, too. When I used to live at the beach I would rollerskate on the strand for about 10 miles round-trip, without a problem, but that only took about an hour and a half, too...of course, that's low impact.
I'm still surprised, though, that you don't feel you have the energy to do your usual run. I think you're the first person I have seen on the BB who has tried to do the same amount of exercise and says they just can't. Mostly habitual cleansers have extra energy, and the people who don't exercise as much are the newbies who are afraid they might pass out or something. Maybe it has to do with detoxing, or recovering from whatever injury you had physical therapy for...or maybe your level of hydration during a run. People are particularly sensitive to hydration levels when cleansing. Of course, it could just be what you are saying...individual body differences. You're obviously successful with your cleanses and know how to listen to your body. I just don't want newbies to be afraid of exercising or think that they HAVE to hold back or decrease their workout. And I think YOU just wanted to make sure newbies didn't think they had to push themselves more than their body was telling them to. Cheers! and happy cycling!

well here it is day 24
no detox symptoms today and lots of energy tried 2 bags of tea lastnight and had same results from tea as day 1-15
i think my body is adjusting to the tea or the lemonaid broke up a bunch of stuff my bm this mornings was almost 80% solid
had slight cramping this morning but nothing painfull just weird feeling
down from 266 to 236 still my bmi is about 35% or 36% for my hieght of 6 foot 1 inch
anyhow will stick to 2 tea bags for a few days see what happens got about 6-8 days left supply wise going till i run out then doing 20 days of veggies only no meat or dairy and after 20 days will add fish and chicken back to 1 meal a day instead of eating meat at every meal and having 60% of my diet consist of meat
well off for a great day 24

@Lahontani,
No, I dont think it was me... I just asked for the kind of weight loss I'm looking at, how long would you recommend me cleansing the next time around. But I think next time I'm just going to go for 21 days and if I feel like I can keep going then I will go for it.
My main thing is the first few days are just so hard, that I feel like right now it's such a breeze and I hate to have to stop at 14 days only to start back up 3 months later and go through it again. LOL But I know I will have to do several with an amazing diet in between to achieve my goal and remain that way for a long time. So I'm starting to embrace the 14 day cutoff and knowing that I will start again in just a few months for amazing results again.
I do however have a concern. Wednesday of next week will be day 15, which I'm planning on doing the juice.. and then Thursday is my actual anniversary day, which I'm doing a vegetable broth or soup... on Friday we will be on the road all day to get to panama city, I'm planning on just taking raw fruits and vegetables to eat throughout the day Friday. What vegetables and fruits do you recommend, and do you think Friday is too soon for that?
Thanks!

I believe the best anonymous advice we can give each other on these boards is advice based on personal experience, not speculation, which is why I hope that there is another runner out there that can share his/her experience with me. I would never presume to give advice on a fitness regime I do not practice myself, by the way.
As far as my being an anomaly in terms of exercise endurance while on MC, I can't agree with you on that one, either. It's fairly common for people to feel a drop in energy levels that comes from consuming less than half the calories they're used to.
Anyway, I'm on day six. So far so good.

I am on day 1 of the ease in. I have tried this mc before unsuccessfully only becuz i think i concentrated on the weight loss and not the overall cleansing and i never did an ease in. but life can hit u like a ton brick sometimes so i decided to quit smoking and drinking (which was becoming common nature) and i knew i needed
something drastic but with a purpose. I am excited and ready to treat my body like im in love with her.
Good luck everyone.

Hi, everyone
I'm finishing day 3 of my ease in and feeling ready to go! This will be my fifth Master Cleanse. My first one was a year ago, at 165 pounds. I lost 10 pounds in 10 days and felt amazing. Best of all, I lost all of my cravings for junk food and was able to transition to a high-raw diet without much trouble. Since then, I've lost an additional 20 pounds, which I credit entirely to seasonal Master Cleanses and a healthier diet.
This is not my first time around, so I know where my pitfalls lie. That said, it's still great to have support! I am not one of those "zen" cleansers--every day is a struggle for me. But I just keep focusing on the day (or sometimes even the hour) in front of me, and reminding myself that the food will be there when I get back. Looking forward to sharing this with all of you!

That's fantastic. I used to be a milk chocolate fiend. I did my first MC in hope I can get rid of that addiction and, to my surprise, it worked. I also stopped eating dairy. MC can be a great trigger to better eating.
Good luck on this MC!

Hi All,
I'm so glad I pushed through my depression yesterday, because today was much better. I woke up and had lost a pound and a half, so I was happy I had gotten through a weight plateau. I also had much better energy, and no longer felt despondent about another two days of MC. Now I am wrapping up Day 9 and feeling great, knowing I will finish the 10 days I committed to at the beginning.
The way I feel now, I could probably extend the cleanse, but I just don't want to. Ten days is enough for me, and is definitely enough for my family. They have been supportive, but they want me back sharing meals and having fun with them. I promised my kids we could go out for sushi on Sunday night, we'll see if I am actually able to eat any of it by then!
I have gone from 133lbs to 125.4 lbs as of this morning. I still want to lose another 5 lbs to get to my goal, but I hope to get there with diet and exercise. I'm looking at the MC as a jump start to better health. I just picked up the book "Raw Food Detox Diet" and I plan to use many of those recipes to extend the benefits of this cleanse into my daily life. Have any of you followed that book? If so, what was your experience?
I look forward to Friday morning, when I can start sipping OJ. I am considering trying the vegetable soup later the same day. I know that is not recommended but I am just so anxious to get back to real food!
Have a good night, everyone!

What vegetables and fruits do you recommend, and do you think Friday is too soon for that? Peter's book, 2nd edition, page 23, says "The third day should be orange juice in the morning, more of the homemade vegetable soup for lunch , and salads, fruits and/or vegetables for dinner. Begin eating your usual food the fourth day..." Since Peter promotes a raw food diet, I am sure that the fruits and veggies you plan to take on the trip would be ok. When I go on a road trip after the cleanse, I often take a bowl of the veggie soup with me. Since part of the point is to introduce "regular" food slowly, you might want to consider having a bowl of soup for lunch and the fruits and veggies a little later on in the day, as Peter described.
I don't have any specific fruit or veggie recommendations. Generally the type of veggies you would find in a salad (that's a huge range). Try to stay away from common allergens: strawberries, mushrooms, peas...anything you know you have trouble with. And if you were going to dip the raw veggies in something, I would recommend an oil & vinegar type dressing or maybe hummus, rather than something like Ranch dressing or sour cream dip.
Welcome Prettydred80, Ameyls, & Rocempire!

I haven't tried that cookbook, but just wanted to make sure you knew that there are a bunch of raw food recipes on this website, under "the raw food lifestyle."
Try to hold out for just oj on your first day...it really does seem like a treat after nothing but lemonade...some people even think it's TOO sweet and have to water it down. It really helps me maintain my weight loss when I ease back into food as slowly as possible and stay disciplined. If I get too impatient for "real" food, I end up going out to dinner too soon and getting into a "splurge" mentality.

Day 9:
Hi guys! Thanks for the info Lahontani. I really need to pull my book out and actually read this weekend. ;)
Well, yesterday I went for a 2 mile walk and this morning I woke up .5lbs lighter!! So far 11.5lbs lost. Soooo happy! I tried on my bathing suit that I just recently wore about 3 weeks ago and it looks soooo much better and so different! That is good news since I'm going to the beach soon :) Yesterday I also had major acne! ugh!! It was awful, and covered my whole face! Today my skin feels clean and soft, but it's still to early to tell if it will break out or not, so knock on wood!
Have a great day everyone!

Day 17. Everything's going smoothly, but I'm getting tired of cleansing. I look and feel so much better, but still haven't had a high energy day yet. I know it will come eventually...I've noticed that on different cleanses I prefer different blends. Most cleanses I preferred limes and agave. But for the last 2 cleanses I have really loved the lemon + agave/maple/cane blend. Yesterday I tried my favorite yet: lemons + 1/2 pure agave & 1/2 agave/maple/cane. It was great. For those of you who are new to the cleanse, and don't know what I'm talking about: Burroughs says you can use maple syrup, or sorghum syrup or cane juice for the lemonades. Pure Sorghum syrup and pure cane juice are hard to find in the U.S. But the basic idea behind them all is that you are using sap directly from a plant, with no (or very very little) processing. That is why we can use raw agave syrup, even though Burroughs didn't specify it. Burroughs was already deceased before agave became available in stores as a sweetener. I like to trade off between agave and maple syrup, not just for the change of flavor, but because they each have different trace minerals, so you get a better range of nutrients from using both than from using just one. Trader Joe's sells a maple syrup/agave/cane juice blend, that I started using about a year ago. But I live up in the mountains, so I had to drive down the hill into another state to buy it. But now a local grocery store is carrying the same blend, made by a different company, "Great Northern." The Trader Joe's version is $3.49 and Great Northern's is $3.99 for an 8 oz. bottle. It's really nice to be able to give yourself different flavors (and nutrients) when you go so many days with only one type of food.
Tangerina - bathing suit kudos to you! Great results!

Hi, kimpossible!
I have the Raw Food Detox Diet book, and I LOVE it!!! The recipes use mostly common ingredients (except for young coconuts in a few), and they don't require any special equipment. I have maybe 10 different raw food books, and this is the one I turn to most often, especially when I'm looking to throw something together at the last minute.
I followed the "level 3" transition when I came off my first master cleanse, and I loved it. It was really easy to eat raw for breakfast and lunch, knowing I would be having a cooked dinner. The program helped me keep off the weight I had lost during my master cleanse and allowed me to shed an additional 10 pounds!
As an aside, I would not recommend buying Natalia Rose's other book, Raw Food Life Force Energy. She just repeats the same principles, with less convincing arguments, and the format of the book makes it difficult to follow. I just ordered Kimberly Snyder's Beaty Detox Solution, which is similar to Raw Food Detox Diet. I'll let you know how it is!

You were correct Lahontani Headache is gone today and I feel much better... Thank you for the Kudos as well! I was originally only planning on 10 days, but then at that point I was enjoying seeing the weight loss and I was surprised at how easy it was for me to continue! The hardest thing is that I'm a single Mom, and cook nightly for my two kids... and I believe in sitting together for them to eat so I have had to endure sitting and watching them :) I am planning on going 30 days. My tongue is not completely pink, but I feel that it is time, so 4 more days!! I'm down 21 lbs - have been the same for the past 2 days. Would love to hit 25 lbs lost by then. My plan is then to eat raw as much as possible and do another cleanse in 4-6 months. I still have about 50lbs to lose to get to my goal...

Hi, everyone
Has anybody done a master cleanse without weighing themselves during the process? In the past, I've been frustrated when I feel like I'm not dropping weight fast enough, and that's been a huge drain on my morale. This time, I'm considering not weighing myself at all until the end of my cleanse. I'm also considering not tracking how much lemonade I'm drinking and just letting my body dictate when to drink. Any thoughts?

I've done the no weighing thing the last two or three times on MC. I like it better that way. For one, I do not focus on weight loss, but on how I feel while I fast. I am not doing it on this fast, but on the last one I did "morning pages" (writing down your first thoughts in the morning). I know weight loss is a great motivator, but once I've fasted a few times I needed something else to focus on. I will weigh myself on the last day of MC, and from then on for at least a week or more. It's to see how my body reacts to eating again.
I don't know about not measuring the lemonade. I have not done that. I make sure I drink at least 6 glasses a day, by the way.

Ameyls
Hi Amelys!
Thanks for the feedback - I was planning to do exactly what you did. I took the test and came out a Level 3, so I plan to follow that transition plan (well, after the day of OJ/Grapefruit Juice, then the day of veggie soup.) I also hope to keep of the pounds I've lost and shed a few more. I like the idea of a raw food lifestyle, but her way of easing into it seems much more doable, especially with a husband and kids who have no interest in joining me in this quest!
Have you used any of Ani Phyo's books? I was shopping on Amazon and was interested in Ani's Raw Food Essentials. I read the beginning on my Kindle and it looks great, well, except for the dehydrator part. Please do let mw know how the Kimberly Snyder book is.
Good luck with your cleanse!

Ameyls
That seems like a good idea. I think my most down days of this cleanse (my first) were the 3-4 when my weight did not move much. It would have been better to wait till the end and focus more on how I was feeling. But the suspense and curiousity would kill me, I don't think I could actually go the whole time without weighing myself!
I stopped tracking how much lemonade I was drinking, and that worked out well, I think. I just had some every 2 hours or so, whenever I felt hungry or low on energy. I am pretty sure I got at least 6 in every day. My biggest downfall was not drinking enough water in between, a problem for me in non-MC life as well.

Question......I did the MC for 10 days this past mid April and was wondering if it was too early to do another 10 day cleanse starting May 31 or June 1st. I usually wait about every 4 months to start a cleanse. Thx!

Day 10 here! Weight plateau... boo hoo! But I cannot complain...my weight loss so far has been outstanding! Yesterday was really hard, I was SUPER hungry!! I really had to try hard to convince myself that I can finish this thing. Crazy because usually on day 10 I'm feeling like the cleanse is such a breeze! Hopefully I can get out of this plateau and back to losing before the end of the cleanse. I'd be really disappointed if I didnt get into the 180s :(
Anyway, have a great day everyone!!

That's one of the most frequently asked questions here (if you do a search you can probably find old posts answering your question). I believe that the consensus is to wait at least 7 weeks before the next fast, though I've read about people starting their fasts sooner. I think the 'danger' of fasting too soon again is mental fatigue, plus your body may not react to MC the way it should. You could plateau early in the fast (i.e., you may not lose as much weight).

Day 26 here
Tongue is clearing up only slightly white fuzz looks almost clear today down another 3-4 lbs today total loss is 34lbs
Just wish I wasn't sick of lemonaid at this moment really wanted to go the full 30+ days but How I feel today I'd rather finish on a water flush only for next 5 days limes are to expensive here or would do that
Just feel like if I don't hit 30 days I will fail at my goal of 30 days.
Any supportive ideas to help me power thru last 4-5 days would be greatly appreciated

Don't quit now welljm05!!! We're about the same length of time so I've been watching your posts... I'm on day 27 today and I do understand how you feel about being sick of it already... but I'm digging in my heels and going the full 30!!!
If you do decide to break the cleanse at 26 days though, seriously, what an accomplishment! There are so many people on the boards that only do the 10 day... plus your weight loss to date is amazing! Whether you decide to stick it out or continue for another few days - YOU ARE A SUCCESS!!!

Day 18. Lost another lb. I can really see I've lost inches from my lower abs - my big problem area.
I am planning on going 30 days. Your tongue doesn't always get pink - mine only did on 2 or 3 cleanses - so don't count on that. You're doing terrific, so don't get hung up on a number like "25 lbs." Our minds tend to do that, but our bodies don't count by 5's or 10's - so if you get to 23 or 24 instead of 25, don't let yourself get anxious about it. Same for the remaining 50 lbs. It's easy to get discouraged by a number like that. But, honestly, if you were to lose that whole 75 lbs. of fat all at once, you wouldn't even look as good as you want to - you'd have a whole bunch of loose, saggy skin! Better to let yourself lose it more slowly at the pace your body sets for you and let your skin's elasticity catch up to your weight loss!
MOST people on this BB don't weigh themselves for exactly the reason you stated. I am an exception to that and find I do better mentally when I get on the scale. Most other people here use criteria like fitting into their favorite jeans, to judge their weight loss. They usually weigh themselves at the beginning and the end and maybe once during if they felt they broke through a plateau.
I am not strict about keeping track of how many lemonades I drink. I just make one whole fruit's worth whenever I feel hungry. But I do keep an informal running total of how many tsps. I've had during the day. BUT I didn't start doing this until maybe my 6th cleanse, when I already knew very well what a "good" cleanse feels like. I would recommend keeping track of your lemonades for at least your first 2 cleanses because there are a lot of ups and downs (physically & emotionally) in a cleanse. It's good to know that those ups and downs are detox, not errors, and the only way to know that is if you're doing the cleanse "by the book."
I'm getting ready to phase out on 31st depending on supply lemons specifically
Original goal was 30-40 days I am finishing up day 25 30 days is the 31st but my body wants to stop my mind wants to keep going
Any tips to keep me focused on cleanse for 5 more days oh Lahontani found out the bm problem it was my cayenne don't think the organic 90k hu stuff stays fresh got new cayenne today and let's just say WOOFTA lol caused a bm by itself any how feeling better my pants don't fit at all down to a 38 waist from a 42-44 AHA! Fresh cayenne vs. stale cayenne! Very Important! Thanks for letting us know. I remember that a few cleanses ago I had poor results from using old cayenne...different symptoms, though. Now, instead of buying a spice jar of it, I go to the Hispanic Foods aisle in the grocery store and get the little 69 cent packets of cayenne. It's so much cheaper! And since they are smaller amounts, you use it quicker before it can get stale.
I posted my guidelines for knowing when to quit a few days ago, so go back and check those out...basically it's a combo of the body and the mind both saying "I've done enough." And you're not quite there yet, with only your body saying "enough" (which could just be detox talking). It's very possible that the two will sync up in the next few days. Don't hold the round number of "30 days" as an absolute goal. I have pushed myself to do extra days at the end of a cleanse and found it to not be worth it - no weight loss, only restlessness to get it over. It's more important to listen to that mind/body connection than to a date on the calendar. THAT SAID, trying to keep motivated on the tedious days: I try to give myself small goals like trying to new flavor blend each day (day 1 lemons and agave, day 2 limes and maple syrup, day 3 lemon-lime and agave, etc.) I also try a new exercise program each day (day 1 hike, day 2 hot yoga, day 3 Zumba, etc.). If I tell myself I want to see the effect of "x" kind of exercise while on the cleanse, it gives me a short-term goal I can fulfill easily and helps pass the time to reach the long-term goal.
Question......I did the MC for 10 days this past mid April and was wondering if it was too early to do another 10 day cleanse starting May 31 or June 1st. I usually wait about every 4 months to start a cleanse. Thx!
49 days divided by 7 days per week = 7 weeks.
So I consider the original advice to mean a minimum of 7 weeks between cleanses.
Technically, it's 365.25 ÷ 4 seasons = 91.3125
91.3125 – 40 = 51.3125 days
So 7 weeks or 51 days.
The entire post is on May 22, #2119, if you want to read the whole thing about my experiences with different lengths between cleanses.

On the cayenne issue, how quickly does it go stale? I'm using some that I bought a year ago, I think. I'm definitely getting an effect from it, but I wonder if I could get a greater effect from using fresh cayenne.

my cayenne was only about 20 days old when it lost its effectiveness but its organic cayenne from a health food store
i noticed a decrease in spicey flavor and it started to have an after taste like alcohol.... hard to tell what is detox and what was actually cayenne
i think my main mental problem is i was having trouble getting in 4-5 glasses so i started forcing lemonaid intake
then i got really hungry during my detox days was doing 10-15 glasses now im not hungry again and forcing lemonaid
might try making less next few days instead of forcing it
my view on spices if its sat more then 6 months toss and get new unless you have a good container for it especially powdered ones as they absorb alot of moisture
anyhow will see at the moment im taking each day as it comes

Yippeeee! I finished my 10 day cleanse, and that was all I committed to, so I am done. I feel great, lost 9.6 lbs (133 to 123.4 lbs), fit into all my clothes again and am ready to start a largely raw food diet (can't commit to 100%, but maybe 80%.) I have a few books and I am ready to go. My end goal is now 118 lbs. That would put me to before marriage, before kids weight - and at 43, I feel like that would be a great place to be!
I started the day with one last SWF - I woke up in the middle of the night with more BMs, so I thought it would be a good idea to "flush" one more time before I go back to food. I drank some fresh-squeezed, organic grapefruit and orange juice this morning and felt fine. So I ate an orange for lunch and also felt fine. Interestingly, I am not feeling hungry at all. Seems my appetite is much diminished after the MC, and my food cravings for anything bad are at bay for the moment.
All in all, I am extremely happy with the results of the MC. I had a few rough days, and I thank you all for helping me through them. The support on this board (and from my sis) saved me. I am now a true MC believer! (although, I can't really imagine wanting to do this very often!)
Good luck to all of you on MC and in health, I am in awe of those of you going for more than 10 days!

Congratulations, kimpossible!! It's such a wonderful sense of accomplishment to reach the end of a cleanse. And if you start your healthy eating habits now, you WILL keep the weight off and hopefully lose a little more.
And thanks to those who posted about using fresh cayenne. I picked some up at my health food store tonight, and WOW! What a difference that made! My lemonade is easily twice as spicy as it was before. I'm happy to know that tweaking that one little thing will help me have a better cleanse. Day 2 down--bring on the weekend!

Day 11:
Congrats Kimpossible!!! I'm so jealous! LOL!!
I got out of my plateau..lost a pound yesterday. I didnt drink as much water as I was before. I looked up plateau on the forum and I read that you shouldn't drink so much more over half of your body weight in liquids. I was drinking about my body weight in liquids overall... I think I was bloating myself out. Yesterday I felt better, not as tired, probably because I wasnt over-watering myself...lol.
Looking forward to having some better results than the past two days from now on. I also read my book yesterday! Surprise surprise, it's about time! LOL! and Stanley does say if you want to lose weight to reduce the amt of maple syrup. I had started a new brand of maple syrup on the day i hit the plateau. It was organic and tasted totally different from the first jug i was using. The other one was all natural and pure, but I dont think it was organic. Anyway, I think that also had something to do with it. Maybe the organic one is richer. Regardless I decreased the maple syrup yesterday and I really think it worked. Another added benefit is that the organic one tastes so much stronger that it definitely helped the taste when I reduced the amt. I dont like it when the lemonade is too sweet and yesterday the lemonade tasted MUCH better since it wasnt so sweet.
Anyway, have a great day everyone!

another day another battle
27 days down 3 days left
down another pound today other than that its just size verse weight im now in a size 38 pant from a 42 havnt fit 38s in 6 years roughly was 2004-2005 so i am feeling good salt water flush didnt go as good this morning think i didnt put enough salt or too much water
still dont get why im still having semi solid bm in morning my first 1-2 are between 50-65% solid after that all liquid
dont know if thats normal after 27 days if any long term fasters can respond to that would be thankfull i know i was severely toxic and that 1 fast wont fix or even touch it all i know ill need 2-4 to be normal but just shocking that 27 days without food and i can still have mostly solid bms and thats almost every single day of the fast i think only 5 days i havnt had solid mater in them
i stopped tinkering with lemonaid each time i mess with measurements it tastes nasty so i follow the 2 tbsp 2 tbsp rule with 8 ounces water for 10 ounce of lemonaid mix
prolly doesnt help i can only get organic grade a not b maple syrup :(
anyhow 10 lemons left so i have enough for 28th 29th and 30th for a total of 29 days on fast plan to do next fast around november for 15-20 days give or take a couple.
but since the fast started heres a list of things ive noticed
alergys not as bad
headaches gone
hands not swollen
hands and feet not itching
neck and back dont hurt as much
my right shoulder and knee dont seem to be hyper extending anymore
joints are not popping
regained alot of my flexibility
not hungry all the time
and ive lost roughly 32 pounds and down to a 38 pant
and im sleeping soundly thru the night which i havnt been able to do since 2004

Day 3 down, and it was a good one! I had plenty of energy, and I didn't feel as hungry as I normally do. I think it might be the fresh cayenne! After I have a glass of my now-much-spicier lemonade, everything just settles down, and I forget all about food. Plus it leaves me feeling physically warm, which is nice for a cold-natured girl like me!
Welljm05--that's amazing you're still having solid BMs this far into your cleanse! Just imagine how much better you're going to feel, getting all of that out. I've read about people having a suddenly solid BM around day 21 after having weeks of pure-liquid BMs, but never consistenly solid ones for this long. It makes me think I should try extending my cleanse to 21 or 30 days--who knows what's lingering in there. If every day is as easy as today was, maybe I will! (Now I've jinxed myself, and tomorrow will be horrible . . .).
Goodnight, everyone!

Hi guys!!
Day 12....I'm making this my last day instead of Tuesday for several reasons. I want to be able to fully eat real food starting Friday since we're leaving on our trip that day, instead of treading on possibly getting an upset stomach from eating something too soon. Secondly, I can barely finish a full 60 ounces of the lemonade at this point. I'm pretty much forcing it in and it's starting to taste super disgusting. Thirdly, I'm also tired of making it every morning. LOL! I know that's a lazy reason but it's just the reality of it. Overall, I'm MORE than pleased with the results. I'm at a weight plateau and I'm stuck at 193 today. Been there since yesterday, which means I've lost 12 pounds in 11 days. Not bad at all!!
My tongue is pink so I know I've pretty much detoxed at this point and I feel good about the length of time I've been on it and about my decision to make this my last lemonade day. Tomorrow I will have orange juice and I'm really looking forward to it!!!
Hopefully in a few months when I do my next cleanse, I will not have some big event that I'm looking forward to eating on, I think the fact that I'm going out with my husband on several dates next weekend has really made it hard to even think of going past 14 days. (I know!! totally different from last week when I was longing to continue it past my anniversary!) I'm sure the plateau has something to do with the desire to continue wearing away.
Anyway, I hope everyone's having a good day! And Happy Memorial Day!

i'm going to be starting the cleanse this Thursday and i'm just trying to mentally prepare myself. i've done it twice - first time i did the full ten days and the second time i think i gave up after like 4 days, i don't remember but this time i'm determined to do the full 10 days and who knows.. maybe even more!
i'm hoping after this cleanse i can stick with a vegetarian lifestyle and have a cleaner appetite. i'm really hoping this helps cut my crazy sugar habit. i just want to feel better and eat healthier!
i've seen a lot of post of being in the 20 days, that is very motivating! congrats everyone, you all are doing great!
off to read my book.. good luck everyone!

Day 30 WOO HOO!! Today was a tough one... family cookout. But, even though it was hard to see all the good food that everyone was overindulging in, it was a comfort in a way to sit there with my lemonade, and know that I wasn't going to feel bad about the day afterwards when I would usually be cringing thinking about the calories I consumed... Does that make sense?
I'm SOOO looking forward to the Orange Juice tomorrow. I'm thinking of doing a combo Grapefruit/Orange juice so it won't be as sweet. Does anyone else do that? I read that Peter breaks his cleanse on Grapefruit juice. Also stocked up today on all kinds of awesome veggies for my soup. Got a copy of the book someone recommended - Raw Food Detox diet - looks awesome. I am planning on moving into a 75-85% raw diet and the concept of proper food mixing really is interesting.
I'm planning another cleanse in Sept, maybe only 20-25 days next time - we'll see. This one just felt like it went on a few days too long.
That's it for tonight! Everyone is doing great!

Day 5 down, and I'm really starting to hate this. I had four great days, and today even started out okay; but things went downhill rapidly this afternoon. A couple of things happened that really threw me off. First, I weighed myself for the first time since starting the cleanse, and I've actually gained a few pounds! My period is coming next week, so it's not uncommon for me to be retaining water at this point, but it was still upsetting. Second, my tongue JUST starting getting the white fuzz this afternoon. What the heck? Did I just go through four days of non-cleansing, only to have the real detox start now? If so, that is majorly depressing. Beyond that, today was the first day that I've had an overwhelming craving for food. The popcorn at Target smelled so good, and it took every ounce of willpower to walk past the concession stand without getting any.
Historically, Day 6 has been my worst day on the cleanse, and that's tomorrow. I'm really not looking forward to it, especially after having a rough afternoon today. I just have to remind myself that it's always a tough day. All I have to do is get through it, and then I'm home free.
Ugh. This cleanse for me is like childbirth. When I'm in the middle of it, I hate it, and I vow that I'll never do it again. But then I get through it, a few months go by, and I start thinking, "You know, that wasn't so bad. And the benefits are so wonderful. I bet I could do it again." I always forget how hard it is. :)

Good morning, people! I am on Day 1 of my 2nd Master Cleanse diet! I went 10 days last time and I'm hoping to double that this time around but will see how it goes on a weekly basis! This cleanse will be a little different than last: I now have to be at work at 4:30am so doing the Salt Water Flush is going to be impossible for mornings. Anyone have any suggestions for this? I know I can do the tea - should I then do the tea in the morning and the SWF in the evenings?
Already feeling super hungry but I know that by my 3rd day, it won't even be an issue! Looking forward to hearing about everyone's progress!!

Day 2 of getting off the cleanse and things are going great!! I lost another 1.5lbs yesterday, so I'm down 15lbs in 13 days! Not bad!!!
The OJ is amazing!! I cup up all my veggies this morning for my soup this evening and I'm looking forward to eating soup!
This is the first MC I've actually come off of the right way. I would always just do a day of juice and go back to eating the next day, so I'm looking forward to continued progress this week as I'm weaning myself off the lemonade :)
@xheylove, I've read that if you cannot do the SWF, that you can do the tea again in the morning. Depending on what kind of job you have, you would be able to control your bathroom visits better that way. I've heard of people actually doing the SWF a couple of times a day. I dont think I'd recommend that.
Also, whenever you're super hungry, you can chug some of the lemonade and the cayenne should put some of that hunger aside. I've been hungry a lot during this cleanse and I would just either sip or chug some lemonade depending on how hungry I was and it helped a lot.
good luck on your cleanse!

Day 1 (again). False start last week, I caved on the second day. I blame it on the Pre in PMS. I usually do this entirely for the detox benefits, but right now I'm all in it for the weight loss. I have 13 days until I go on vacation so I'm hoping to at least be able to put on a pair of shorts. Everything summer-wear in my closet is too tight. I'll have to wear the grandma bathing suit - not going to be able to lose enough to do better than that in this timeframe.
Eezeewryter - I think I kicked the diet coke habit for life with my first cleanse! I still have caffiene sometimes but it's iced tea, no more sodas. Eating healthy is a little harder for me - I do so well for a while but then slip into all my old habits. And then it's time for a new cleanse!

Day 2 for me. Its my first time doing the cleanse. Day one was really hard. Especially since my husband forgot I was starting the cleanse and brought home this amazing dinner. Guess he has alot of leftovers ;)! Day 2 seems to be amazing! I took a nap today and it was like pregnancy sleep. It's been a long time since I slept that soundly. Excited about what's to come!

Day 1 coming to a close. Amazing how easy it was today - and yet I've tried to start day 1, 3 times last month and didn't get anywhere. We'll see how tomorrow goes!

Today is Day 1 of my third cleanse, it's going good so far. Trying to remind myself when I'm having these cravings that I'm not hungry, it's just a craving!
WOW - is it normal that 30 seconds ago I was saying everything is going good so far and now all of a sudden I have a rush of depressed feelings? Not sure why but I'm just feeling really down all of a sudden. Hopefully it goes away soon. I don't recall this happening with either one of the first cleanses. I did just get my period yesterday so maybe that ties into it somehow but not sure..
Well - off to work..

Yeah, can you say mood swings?, I knew you could...
Today hasn't been too bad, Day 2. I started having evil thoughts but I don't think I'm going to give in. Getting a little hungry all of a sudden so I'd better make some more LA.

I now have to be at work at 4:30am so doing the Salt Water Flush is going to be impossible for mornings. Anyone have any suggestions for this? I know I can do the tea - should I then do the tea in the morning and the SWF in the evenings?
Unfortunately, I don't have any great advice. Except that I've been told not to try to do the SWF at night because it will flush out the lemonade before it's been able to work - SWF is best on an empty stomach. They suggest doing the tea both morning and night if you can't SWF....but I just hate the tea.
I usually set my alarm for 1 hour before I really want to wake up. I have the SW already made and sitting next to the alarm clock. I chug it, reset the alarm, then roll over and try to sleep some more. It's usually ready just before my alarm goes off an hour later. But here I've been feeling sorry for myself having to do this at 6am! Can't imagine having to go to work at 4:30 regardless!
If you come up with any good tricks, or if you try the evening thing and it works for you - please let me know.

Day 9 here for me, and I cannot WAIT to be done. I'm looking forward to tomorrow, though--Day 10 always feels like a victory lap. :)
Days 6 and 7 were both tough for me. It's right at that mid-point, where you just feel like you still have so far to go. But I cut myself some slack: opted for double tea over SWF, took some good naps, and just tried to keep my mind off what I was doing. And, of course, I constantly reminded myself over and over that the food will still be there when I'm done.
Surprisingly, on this cleanse, one of the things that has brought me comfort is preparing food for others. I've really enjoyed smelling what I'm cooking and listening to my family describe how it tastes. It's like I've been able to live vicariously through them a little.
On to Day 10. I'm ready to sprint around my yard with my hands in the air, like I've just won the NY marathon. Maybe I'll even make myself a little finish line to run across at the end of the day. :)

closing on Day 3. Hey - there were a bunch of people posting day 1 about the same time as I did - are any of you still with me?
Had a lousy day today - not due to the cleanse. But it sure makes it hard. You want to reward yourself or console yourself with food but... sigh.

Hi all!
Third time on the Master Cleanse. Day 6. Initial goal is 21 days, ultimate goal is 60 days. I'm a type 1 diabetic on the road to regaining my health. Been working out everyday..feels good to be active. Only detox symptoms I have are I'm cold, have a white tongue and sensitive gums. Funny that without even reading any posts I started drinking the lemonade through a straw. Now I know why I am. I am fairly healthy before starting this round, after I complete plan is to go completely raw. Picked up a book by Victoria Boutenko couple weeks ago and now fully energized to regain my health.
Been drinking the lemonade with grade b maple syrup. I think I'll be very happy next week when I get my shipment of molasses. I love this cleanse because my blood sugar levels are spot on, and I am decreasing my intake of insulin to reduce any lows. Would be phenomenal if with the changes could actually restart my pancreas to produce insulin. If not, then hell, I'll definitely be a helluva lot healthier and happier regardless. I'm so ready to be as healthy as possible. Looking forward to the challenges I will encounter this time around. Previous cleanses were 14 days and 10 days. Make or break a habit in 21 days.
Thank you for allowing me to participate!

I plan on starting the cleanse tomorrow. I really don't do the cleanse to lose weight anymore because I am already a size 0/2 thanks to my previous cleanses . I just want to get the nicotine out of my body. This will be my 12th cleanse and it's been so hard to quit smoking, so I have made up my mind to quit with this next cleanse. My last cleanse was so hard.....I was hungry for 7 days but I was also doing Bikram Yoga every day and then the last few days I was fine and could have gone longer but a holiday kicked in so needed to break it. Wish me luck!!!! Tomorrow is day one for me! The worst part for me is the tea at night and the swf in the morn. Gotta love how ya feel tho!

I'm on Day 1 and just did the salt water drink. It was so gross I had to be in the bathroom cause I might throw up and was plugging my nose as I attempted to swallow it. Surprisingly I finished it. Any chance it might get easier to drink or no? Wish me luck! I'll need it!

I'm on day 1, and doing LOUSY. I'm retaining water, and my hips, pelvis, lower abdomen, butt muscles, etc. are in pain. This is from caffeine withdrawal. I went to the pharmacy in my grocery store, and they said that the only over the counter stuff they have for water retention is caffeine based products.
DAMMIT!!! :(
From past withdrawal experiences, I know that the water retention will last a few days before it gets better. My plan in the meantime is to drink as much lemonade as I want, as much water as I want (I'm in a trailer in Texas with no AC), keep busy, and suffer. Will do the herbal laxative tea morning and night instead of saltwater flush, until water retention ceases.
Other than the water retention, noting bad to report. Yet, lol.
Peace and love.

Day 2. Tossed and turned for a few hours last night until I got up and took a BC Powder. Yes, it is deviation, but I don't care. I was in pain, and had to get some sleep. Thankfully, the BC Powder worked, as I was asleep within 20 minutes of taking it.
Today, still having some pain, but it is less than yesterday. Got through day 1 without cheating, but I use a hoodia tincture. The stuff seems to work well, so I will be using it every day with every serving. The thing I don't like about the hoodia tincture is the price: 17.00 USD for one week's supply. Oh, well. It is worth it.

What's BC powder, Boo? Anyway you just hang in there! It's really not that inspiring for me to read you're in such agony cause I'll be starting the Cleanse my first time tomorrow... You hang in there, you hear me? Seems like Betty's doing quite well. You just take the back of her and follow desperately, ya hear me?
I've gotten all of the essential ingredients except for senna-tea (or laxative tea with senna innit (or whats it's called). I didn't think it was that important what kind of laxative tea to drink cause in the text I read from Burroughs he writes "There are several good laxative teas. They are best taken in liquid forms. Buy them in your health food store." So I bought a really pleasant tasting tea (am drinking it now) from Pukka called "Detox" and contains mainly organic aniseed, fennel, and cardamom, and some organic licorice root, coriander seed and celery seed. Will this work as the laxative tea or is the consensus these days to drink senna-tea?
Looking forward to read further about how you're doing, Boo! ;) And Betty... Good luck both of ya!

Day 8: last night I had my first craving for food. Today I've got a low intensity headache and my skin is beginning to break out, among other minute pains in my left knee and left eye. I think it's odd for my to finally experience symptoms 8 days into the cleanse this time around. Drinkng a ton of water which hasn't relieved the headache. First goal is 13 more days and ultimate goal is 52 more days. So far so good....

I don't drink coffee, but I was a two six-pack a day diet coke drinker before my first cleanse - and I haven't had diet coke since. I do indulge in an occasional iced tea which has caffeine too, but I'm very glad to be off the aspartame-caffeine cocktail. I remember having some pretty good headaches during that first cleanse - but don't worry, you'll get through it.

I am on Day 7 and REALLY struggling.
The problem is that due to work circumstances I am working 18 hour days this week. I'm averaging about 3 hours of sleep a night. Needless to say, even without the cleanse I would be exhausted this week. Usually I use food (mainly sugar and other garbage) and caffeine to compensate during weeks like this to keep myself moving until the work schedule calms down. Due to the cleanse that is not an option and I'm not sure how much longer I can make it!
I have completed the cleanse for 10 days in the past and always with ease. This time the goal was to push it to 30. I've already drank 3/4 of my lemonade for the day and my fear is that if I run out too early I am going to end up succumbing to the coffee call. I also know that my sleep schedule isn't going to improve until this weekend and I am not sure I am going to fight with myself until Friday.
My resolve is crumbling as the sleep deprivation increases!

Well, I started MC # 4 on the 1st of June. Its easier for me to keep track of my days using the calendar days. I am shooting for 21 days this time.
So far, it hasn't been bad at all. Last night I had terrible gas pains, and gurgles in my stomach/intestines that really kept me awake. That was a first for me. Or perhaps I've just never had it so badly.
But I am here chugging away...its DAY 8 - yyaaaaayyyyy....and I'm not looking back - onward and upward to day 218)8)

I'm on day 3. This is the furthest I've gone b/c the first two times I started, I stopped 1/2 way through the first day due to the nausea. I abhor vomiting.
So day one, I learned a farting lesson I won't soon forget at 10 am. Luckily I had spare clothing at work. At 2pm, I began to experience a headache that escalated paste the worst I've ever hard. By the time I got home at 6pm, I was in the bathroom because of the nausea. I rode the nausea train 6 hours that day and finally threw up at 8:30pm. (I'd tried to make myself vomit a few times during the day unsuccessfully) It was hard to get the tea down but I put it in a large cup and did my best.
Day two passed like a breeze until 6:30pm when the headache and the nausea returned. I fell asleep on my bathroom floor for awhile, just to be near where I wanted to be. As the nausea peaked, I would burp. This gave me such relief. The headache was also bad but nowhere near the Day One experience. Again, getting the tea down was hard.
I'm on Day three now, feel a little hungry and listless but otherwise i'm fine. I also must say that getting the salt water flush down in the morning is a real challenge but I like thinking what it does for me - flushing out all the toxins that have seeped into my intestines. :) Also, I'm noticing that the evacuations are very yellow and I've read that this is bile. Finally, a young family member introduced me to Zombie Farm so since I can't focus to read (and I'm a BIG reader) I've been playing Zombie Farm in the bathroom.

Hello,
I am from Croatia and a few days ago I saw a book about a great cleansing. I read it and decided to try to endure 10 days. I still buy groceries needed for cleaning, because in Croatia is hard to find everything. My start is on Sunday. I am a little afraid how I will endure 10 days without food. I ask all of you to support me and give yours comments.

I'm now about to make my evening tea on day 3 and am finding this fasting-thingy kinda funny. i'm more effective doing things, gets easily more irritated at phone salesmen, plays more guitar (to relax) and cycles around super fast trying to quell the urge to eat and especially to smoke. i wanna smoke! but smoke is so bad for me, i can (almost) see that now. but i wanna smoke all the time! hopefully after these ten days i don't have the feeling that some living abnormality deep inside me is desperately scratching the inside of my lungs in vain attempts to lure me into giving it that goodoliciously BLACK smoke. ten-twelve days off is probably just good for me...
I feel, myself being a strict vegetarian helps me deal with this diet quite nicely. i never eat cheese or egg or any of that which lord burroughs deems so bad for our body (i smoke though, if you didn't know..) and feel kinda energized by all this. but it's early days and i'm sure i'll have a strong reaction somewhere down the line (and i hope i'll get it cause i too wanna be CLEANSED). now it's just annoying not being able to smoke. can i smoke btw during this cleanse? it's not like it's food or anything...?
are you hanging in there Boo? good luck ya'll!

DAY 10 - COMPLETE
Wow...Food dreams!!!..they seem so real, don't they!:confused::confused:
Well my detox sypmtoms continue. My nasal drip has evolved into full-blown flu-like symptoms - sneezing, coughing, and tons of mucus being evacuated from this old body. Gonna do SWF on Saturday and Sunday. Other than that, I've lost 11pounds, still mildly working out, and still feeling fine. Detox is never pleasant at the time, but its soo good for the body.:):)

Hi all,
I'm starting Day 2 of my first MC. Yesterday was nasty for me. Started out fine in the morning but by midday had an insane headache that drove me to bed for the rest of the day/night. By 7pm I was very nauseas but held back throwing up. Woke up this morning and only got about 250ml of SWF in me before it all came back up. Think I'll stick to tea today....may try SWF again tomorrow.
On a better note I weighed myself last night and this morning I am down 1.3KG (2.8 pounds)!

Day 12. Still feel pretty much the same as I did the first week. Still have a pretty good mental attitude, which I think is imperative. Getting cranky with the U.S. food obsession, craving but not hungry for the food in the all the commercials. (Ever notice how many food related commercials there are?) Pretty crazy I think I'm becoming, an extremist, wondering how I'm going to fit in with society after the whole cleanse thing is completed, and I go about 90% raw. Picked up a few new Raw Food books from Amazon. Really craving some of the recipes I've read over. Wondering also what all ingredients I'll need to make a Raw Food chocolate shake with young coconut meat, cacao, agave, vanilla, to ease my latest desire for a McDonald's chocolate shake (and I haven't had one of those in YEARS!) Thinking when it warms up here next week, I'll blend chipped ice with the maple syrup, cayenne, and lemon juice for a lemonade slushee.
Really tired today, like exhausted, get dizzy (light-headed) when I move. One of my friends watching me today thought I was going to pass out. More lemonade and some water. So much for working out today. Did get my perennials planted. It definitely helps when I don't focus on how I'm feeling and be active. But yeah, I'll wait until I feel to run or circuit train again.
Consistently having eliminations as well. In the morning's SWF, then again around 5pm. On the past cleanses I would only eliminate after the SWF and during the night from the senna tea.
Taking it easy tonight, almost burned myself sitting in the hot tub. Never thought that 104˚ would be so hot. Didn't feel that hot two days ago. Lots of changes. Finally beginning to detox. Finally. I think.
Hope everyone is doing well. First goal is 9 days away, 2nd goal is 18 days away and ultimate is 48 more days.

Spiritual Discovery,
I recently finished a 20 day fast. My fifth and the longest I have ever done. I discovered some deep spiritual/emotional issues/experiences in my history that needed to be dealt with. Life changing - really. I do not believe that these would ever have come to the surface without the process of fasting in this way. I am humbled and stand as a grateful learner of how fasting has a true spiritual component and power. I do observe that in my experience the spiritual benefits of fasting do not begin to become obvious until much later in the process. Mike

Day One!
I swear as soon as I bought the lemons and MS yesterady I started feeling better!
I had made so much progress last year through my clenase this January and frankly I pissed it all away with bad habits due to depression and stress. I could kick myself! But instead - back on the horse to try again... A quick 8 days I think as I must break the fast in time for my nephew's wedding. Plan to do several more this year though to regain lost ground on health and wellness.
I will pop in every day (sometimes several times a day!) for support - so if you have been discouraged by lack of action here - let's get this board hot!
Hope everyone is doing great today!

The first few days are generally tough for me as I change from bad habits to the good... all the sick feelings are your body getting rid of toxins - or maybe craving toxins. Hope you are hanging in there - day four is usually better. Toward the end as I start thinking about eating again I start to crave as well and that is tough, but craving healthy things is a good problem to have I think!

*sigh* I think today's day 16 for me. I feel quite awkward that I've only suffered minor symptoms since the beginning. Tongue's getting nicely pink again. Think it's been that way past couple days. Crave food at night around 7pm or so. Drink more lemonade, split the maple syrup with some molasses. Funny that I used to think following the SWF, the eliminations were bile because of the yellow, but yeah, if you drink molasses in your lemonade, it will be a "normal" color. So I think it was mostly lemon juice way back when. Senna tea kills me sometimes in the middle of the night, but interesting this time on the cleanse having 5 or 6 eliminations in the evening before bed. Still hanging in there, wondering when the "tough" stuff is gonna happen. I know it's coming.
Oh yeah, I did "cheat" yesterday. Ha! I went out to the spring for water, and tasted 3 wild watercress leaves. Wanted to see if I was going to like adding watercress to salads when I get done with this. Man, watercress has a strong taste. That will take some getting used to.
All in all, doing well. (weird I think!)

Hello to DAY TWO!
Spent yesterday trying to ignore the entire world... went to work then home. Read about 3 pages of my book and then went to sleep at 6:30PM until 5AM today! That is one way to skip the caffeine withdrawl migraine if you can manage it! Feeling good today and so glad I am doing this...

Awesome for you getting back on track. Same for me - I was doing so well and then it all just fell apart. I am not sure why I allowed things to get so out of control. It is like if I cannot have control over everything then I must have control over nothing - bad thinking I know... A tip of my lemonade to you and I both getting it together moving forward! :)
Just finished day 10 yesterday and down 19 pounds!!! it feels great. I know its not good to start a cleanse so soon after finishing one, however I couldve went longer but I am having people coming out of town to visit. I am going to start again on Sunday coming up (06/19 ) for 10 days, and then plan another one later on this year prb in October . Good luck everyone .. you can do it!!!
Great work on your cleanse! We'll be here when you get back - remember to go easy on your self the next few days - it can be painful if you eat too much too fast. Enjoy your gathering. As far as the timing - you'll know when you restart if you shouldn't be doing it - only you can determine if it is too soon. Some people go 40 days, so two tens in close proximity shouldn't bee too bad. As for me - I did 10 last Nov and then tried for 28 in January and that was too soon... only made it to 18. As long as your reserves are built up I say go for it!
Sometimes the tough days don't come? (although I've never made it past 18 so I can't speak!) I've actually been happier on some cleanses than when off of them as far as "easy" goes... I like the routine and knowing exactly what I am putting in and removing from my body. Once I get rid of the caffeine the rest tends to be a snap. The cravings are there, but since I've been through it I know I can do it and then they immediately settle down and quit "screaming"...
Hope your days are all easy peasey lemon squeezy!

hello everyone,
today is my 5 day....I lost 5 kg and I felt good until this afternoon. Suddenly I got dark and I fell unconscious . When i was came to myself I was all bloody in the face. I was bleeding from the nose. ambulance came and put me on the infusion. they told me to immediately stop fasting.
What should I do? to continue or to stop cleaning? When I came home I ate two spoonfuls of soup, and I felt very bad

It is always important to strongly consider the advice of your doctor who can see the whole picture of your health better than we here on the board. That being said, perhaps this is not the best time for you to fast? If it were me, I would take the advice of the doctor and CAREFULLY break the fast following the directions. Coming off improperly can cause issues too.
After some time where you make healthy food choices and build up your reserve of essential nutrients (those that we normally get from good foods and keep a store of in the body but that the body cannot make itself), perhaps try again?
I would look at how you were following the cleanse to see what may have caused this incident: Where you making the lemonade following the directions exactly? Were you drinking enough of it throughout the day? Were you also drinking enough water (about 1/2 oz per pound of body wieght per day)? What were you doing just prior to blacking out? Do you have other health problems which may have contributed to this occuring? (Forgive me I cannot remember if you were the one who mentioned low blood pressure...)
A wild stab in the dark guess with little information on part would have me say that you were not drinking enough lemonade, blood sugar dropped and you got dizzy. BUT I AM NOT A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL OR EVEN A MODERATOR ON THIS BOARD! :)
If you are serious about cleansing - I would find a doctor who supports that choice and review these things with them. Although many doctors follow a strictly "western" practice where anything holistic or natural is "wrong" to them, there are doctors who see its benefits and can assist you with the program. Every individual is different and there may be an underlying issue that needs to be examined.
Good luck: Take care of yourself and be safe!

I'm all worked according to instructions from the book, and everything was as written in the book.
I normally have low blood pressure. Today I had a full day seminar and everything was ok. I made and drank lemonade and water according to instructions as well. I really do not know what happened I just felt weak, dark, cold sweat and it's the last thing I remember. I'll take a break and eat lightfood with 2-3 liters of water a day.I 'll try again after the summer...
anyway thank you so much....

Hi everyone
I ready to start my 3rd cleanse. The last 2 I did a 3 day ease-in. What do think would happen if I did not do an ease-in and just start with the cleanse? I read some place that you don't have to do and ease-in, but you must do an ease-out. Thanks for everyone input

DAY THREE -
Things are going well. Headache last night which was kind of irritating but I'm sure a remnant of the caffeine that snuck back into my life... Looking forward to the weekend!

For what it is worth I have never done an ease in. I take that back - after the first cleanse and the caffeine crash that I had was so awful (couldn't even keep water down) I did a caffeine ease in prior to cleanse two so that I could take advil for the headache... I imagine that doing the cleanse without a food ease in makes the first SWF elimination more challenging as there is more to remove? It is certainly recommended to do the ease in - I'm just usually out of control with bad habits half the time that I never manage to do an ease in I just snap one day and say "this is it I've had it! we're buying lemons tonight and starting tomorrow!" What can I say - I'm not a role model! ;)
Have a great day everyone!

Wow! HI! Haven't been here since 2007 (my 1st cleanse) and just spent an hour trying to figure out what my username and pw were!
So, don't know what day I'm on...Started Tuesday, then around noon on Wednesday remembered that friends were taking me out to dinner for my bday - OOOPS. Ate some fruit, nuts and tomato soup to prepare body for dinner. Just had veggies at dinner and started again yesterday,so...am I day 4 (since Tuesday) 3 (minus Wednesday) or 2 (having re-started yesterday). Anyways, doing pretty well...kinda scared to leave my house in the am (unlike the last 3 times when I new I was done using the bathroom by 8:30). Hoping for at least 10 days (had a baby last year and put on 80lbs - there's still a resilient 15lbs left) maybe more.
The hardest thing this time is feeding my 1yr old delicious foods and trying not to lick my fingers or WORSE, she wants to feed me and I have to say 'No, thank you.":(
Thrilled to be back among all the support!

Glad you figured out the whole username and password thing - as for me I freaked out when I saw that the board had changed it's look just since January! Good luck with the whole feeding the one year old thing - perhaps she'll accept "no thank you" better than the grown-ups who insist on trying to feed the rest of us while we are cleansing! LOL

So THIS is interesting...Almost 2 months ago I (my husband) started to notice that I was saying "what?" an awful lot. Turns out that although I don't usually have seasonal allergies and didn't have any other symptoms, my sinuses were so blocked up that my hearing was severely impaired (needed tv volume level tripled). Anyways, when I started the cleanse I stopped taking the Claritin and Flonase that was prescribed. Just now I asked my husband what the volume was at (because I could hear it) and it was back to normal! Yay! Even if there were no other benefits of this cleanse (which of course there will be) I'm happy I don't have to take that allergy medication crap anymore!!!!

Good Morning to Day FOUR :)
Evening headache still plaguing me... not sure what is up with that - sixth cleanse and still new fun things to do  Thinking its maybe not enough lemonade although I've never needed more than 6 glasses before - took a spoon full of maple syrup (spare me the lectures - I know that is not protocol) and that and the heating pad on my face and some aromatherapy oil made it go away... Let's hope that is the last night we play that game!
Oh - and the SWF is still not my favorite thing
About allergies - after my first cleanse I was able to stop taking my daily asthma medication. It really does make a difference.
Have a great day!
