Got past lunch out with the kids and I don't even feel bad! They chose fatburger of all things. I wasn't even interested. But I did make sure I loaded up on LA before going. :D

Day 3 and feeling pretty good! I've had bad headaches the last two evenings and one this afternoon, but I know it's normal the first few days. I've actually had way more energy than my last cleanses; I've been craving exercise, but I'm trying to keep my workouts to one a day. I think I have much more mental clarity this time. I'm doing it for the right reasons, and I have been planning it for almost a month. I hope this feeling keeps up...I'm sure I'll have my crabby moments - day 7 is usually a grouchy day.

Hey lemon heads! Today has been kind of rough... actually had my first "OMG, I cheated and ate" dream last night! LOL first one and this is my fifth cleanse!
This is one of my hungriest days to date and I have blown through all six glasses of LA while at work. I usually have about a serving and a half left for evening... heck the first day I couldn't even choke it down! It didn't occur to me until I started typing this that it could have something to do with the fact that I had to participate in sensory panel at work today. I am in quality assurance at a food manufacturing plant. I am required to taste the products from the previous days production on a schedule. I only swish liquid in my mouth and then spit - but yes, digestion does begin in the mouth through saliva and triggers stomach acids to start up and be ready for food to come... perhaps my stomach wants to know where all of that shrimp and lobster soup base is at! ...next week I'm so getting a substitute.
Keep doing dumb things - like I left my keys in the door of the house all night the other night and forgot to put my name on some papers I turned in at work... silly me. Mental clarity - yes. Energy - yes. Multitasking capability - NO! LOL

It's Day 2 for me and I was fine until my power started going wacko this morning! This is my third attempted post. Arg.
Does anyone ever use the kind of juicer that you put the whole fruit into? I tried that with my LAs yesterday and it was extremely bitter. I barely got through 6. Of course, I had premade it since I was at work all day, so didn't have an alternative PLUS wouldn't want to waste so many precious lemons. I have the old fashioned hand juicer that I've used on my past cleanses but I was really hopeful that this one would be better. Maybe I just need to peel the lemons.
All else is well. Connie, I had major cheat dreams last night- it was all about pie, which is weird bc that's not something I usually eat! Weird.
Here's to your strength for getting through your HUNGRY day! Many props to you for being forced to put food in your mouth while cleansing- that's a certain kind of courage!
Happy cleansing to all! :p

Not having too much of a difficult time except for the "eliminations" !!! I cannot seem to venture far from the restrooms. They are very unpredictable, and annoying. I hope I would not go through this for the balance of this Cleanse.
It's not going to be too dull around here. Great to see so many 'Cleansers', and the posts are frequent, and interesting. It's wonderful reading every one's experience. No two are the same :).
Hope your day ends well;)

Day: 24
Start weight: 82kg (180lb)
Currently: 73 kg (161 lb)
Going ok, am currently at my grannys house (had to take her to hospital, she had a bad turn).
I brought lemons, pepper & syrup with me but now its late and I want to stay over. Thing is I got no Senna tea or salt for the morning. Should carry the whole shebang around with me, I know it should be simple but feels like Im constantly buggering about trying to get the ingredients etc.
Anyway, I've managed to stick to the guidelines with no deviations. Clothes are all loser, I dont look so fat and shiney in 'tagged' photos. Feel rather refreshed and clear, still have a taste of almonds in my mouth. The other night I dreamed of eating fish and chips! it tasted delicious but I woke feeling a bit guilty.
This is bad but......I keep seeing lardy fatty's when Im out and thinking 'they should go on the Master cleanse!' bet they'd have some explosive BMs.
Currently watching 'the fattest man' on tv.
20,000 calories a day! Thats about what I've had in total in the last 24 days.
So anyway, pondering going home later tonight so as to get the nighttime tea and salt in the morning. I'm thinking it may be harder to come off this detox then it is to stay on it; feel rather reluctant to start eating again. I will be looking of course at healthy eating, but even so at the moment Im enjoying seeing daily changes for the better and feel like I could continue beyond the current goal of 40.
Had a breakthough as I have an allergy which I take antihistamine for, but have not been taking it while on the cleanse. yesterday I had a reaction (lip swelled up like a bee sting) but without taking any pills it went down with no side effects after around 6 hours. Im hoping my body is re balancing/building itself.
Lemons, hurrah!
Maple Syrup, hurrah!
Agave Syrup, huzzah!
cayenne pepper, yippie!
......SWF, meh!

Hello day 3. This cleanse has so far been one of the easiest. Famous last words...Then again I have been leaving work at lunchtime instead of working a full eight hours for the past two days because the work is all done. That must be it. My life feels so fast paced regularly that these couple extra hours a day have really helped balance me out. Just took the bed sheets out of the wash. Had a :eek: moment after falling asleep last night and had to strip the bed. Then :eek::eek: I couldn't believe it happened again! There's a first time for everything. I must have really been detoxing because the whole experience was pungent and nasty. Nowhere else I can speak about my experiencing like on this board. Thanks for listening, now I can spare anyone who calls and asks what's been going on my gory details. Lemony hugs, -ds

Yeah... I don't think there is such a thing as flatulance on the MC. I learned that the hard way on my last cleanse. LOL!

Of course the plan is to tea and SWF... this removes any thing the LA has loosened. BUT that being said depending upon how concerned you are about needing to stay with granny perhaps you could forgo things for one night if you;'re equipped with enough LA to keep you going... you could always catch up with tea as soon as possible in the morning? Personal decision of course. It's not like you are asking to have a quick cheeseburger during this upset time! LOL. What ever you decide - it's the right choice. Hope she's doing better really soon.

Good morning day 3! :D
Ok, that was my attempt at being positive.
But I just got a text from my 16 year old that he's got an off period at school today and can I pick him and a friend up and take them out to lunch. So I was excited to spend time with him, and already thinking about where we should go for lunch when, bam! I remembered I'm on LA.
So now my grumpy negative self is thinking how hard it's going to be to bring a bottle of LA with me and hope they choose a lunch place I don't care much for...
Heh katlady. This is exactly my feelings today, my 3rd day. I shouldn't have bought those Cassava chips yesterday because everytime I see them I want to eat them. Then this morning when I was supposed to be pulling a lime, I almost reached for some swiss cheese. Arrrrrggghhh!
Okay...my attempt at being positive now: The food will be there next week and at least I got to work from home today. There I feel better for now. ;)

@Bungholio; Hope your Grandmother is better soon. I concur with Connie regarding the Lax Tea & SWF.
It's not unusual to be anxious about "when the Cleanse ends". I was also, but did not dive into foods. Without realising it, I kind of ate Vegetarian, and was quite satisfied. I guess subconsciously I was really concerned about regaining the lost weight. You will find that a lot of foods don't appeal to you any more, although you may think about them fleetingly during the Cleanse.
It is normal to see overweight people and wonder why they aren't doing something about it, and want to steer them in a direction to remedy their situation. But wondering about their eliminations is wrong on so many levels :D:D. That image is disturbing :D:D, but it gave my a good laugh. Thank you for that.
Let us know how 'Granny' is coming along.

First time is always the hardest but u seem determined so good luck to u;) yes, u have to brush ur teeth. u r not supposed to eat candy or chew gum while on MC, and ur breath will not be pleasant at times, or should i say most of the time. unfortunately that's one of the downsides of the cleanse. i always make sure i brush my teeth very well and scrub my tongue, just try not to swallow a lot of toothpaste.

Nearing the end of day 5. As they said day 2 and 3 were edgy but not too bad. On day four I woke up feeling great and last night I slept pretty well too. It is funny, I had a dream that I accidentally ate a rib and didn't realize it until I had swallowed it. I remember in the dream I felt guilty and didn't know how to tell you guys. Then there was this guy with his hand inside a barbecued chicken terrorizing another customer. Then I woke up. What does it all mean? :)
I find myself making several trips to the refrigerator each day. Out of habit I open it up and look. THen I remember what I am doing and close it and try to find something else to do. I never realized how much time I spent going to the frig. Also, When my daughter has candy out, I start to reach for a piece and then I remember what I am doing. Thank goodness I haven't slipped yet.
So anyway, I am feeling good, wishing I lost more weight (I have lost 6lbs so far). I am amazed how long it takes to get waste out of the body.
I am looking forward to reaching the ten day thing. I think I will cut it off there as this is my first cleanse.

Good going Meedis. I don't trust myself to have 'things' around during my Cleanse. I may not have the willpower if/when the cravings get really bad ;).
Rbinacooks, Welcome to our growing group of MCers. I am not sure what everyone else does, but I brush as often as I feel the need, which is mostly twice a day except for when I am out of the house. I also happen to use regular Toothpaste. No problem with teeth sensitivity since I always use a straw for my Lemonades.
Good Luck on your Cleanse.

. One Question??? Am I not supposed to be brushing my teeth?
RbinaCooks in San Diego:)
Well, in the book it says to use a special toothpaste if you brush your teeth, but I couldn't find any and my teeth are feeling GROSS enough as it is and I just don't have it in me to NOT brush my teeth. If that's considered cheating, then I'm guilty twice a day!
I'm finishing up Day 5 and feeling pretty good. I was laughing at all the examples everyone is giving of having brain lapses. I did that today when I put a mug in the microwave to warm. When the alarmed chimed I realized I put it in there without water in it! Geez!
I was making some peppermint tea to freeze and munch on. I saw where someone a couple pages back recommended this. I figure I'd give it a try. I've just been wanting to munch all day!
The kids came back to school today and I realized how much I absentmindedly eat at school with them. A couple Skittles here some M&M's there - it's terrible! Each time I gave out treats I knew if I wasn't cleansing I'd be eating some myself. Shame!
I purchased a food and exercise journal to keep once I'm off the cleanse. I'm hoping it will help keep me more accountable. Has anyone else ever used one?
To all those who are feeling doubtful, just promise yourself one more day. The change will come and you will be grateful you worked so hard for it!! :)

Am I not supposed to be brushing my teeth?
RbinaCooks in San Diego:)
Welcome!
brusing is cool as was mentioned - but products are sometimes questioned. Check out this POST (http://www.therawfoodsite.com/forum/showpost.php?p=25541&postcount=15)in the general help for newbies thread...
Some hard core folks say NO to using products...
toothpaste = flouride = toxin
deodorant = aluminum = toxin
I for one do not make a change at all - my personal hygiene routine stays the same (although I did feel REALLY guilty after I gave myself a mani-pedi last time as a treat and then realized I just loaded up on TOLUENE! oops! steering clear of that this time... maybe :rolleyes:) but others switch to "natural" products or for example brush without paste. Again - this is one of those personal decisions.
I always wonder about the whole tongue discussion... Frankly I scrape mine twice a day during the cleanse - I feel so much better afterward. How would I ever be able to tell if my tongue got "clear"? Those tongue pictures (http://beyondwellbeing.com/herbs/tongue-diagnosis.shtml) are wicked scary (again - see the POST (http://www.therawfoodsite.com/forum/showpost.php?p=25544&postcount=18)on the newbies board (http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1154))

hi everyone, it's nice to see some familiar lemon heads ;)day 3 for me out of 10. so far it's going ok, i'm not sure if i'm hungry or just cravings stalking me:Dso far i have not lost any weight which is weird. after the last cleanse the 10lbs that i have lost i kept off, so happy about that because in previous cleanses some of the weight came right back. but since then i haven't lost a pound:(i went on low calorie diet, did well on that but haven't lost anything. i tried atkins diet. my friend lost 15lbs in 2 weeks on that, and i lost nothing:confused:i went to the doctor to check my thyroid, i'm still waiting for the results, but he said just looking at it, it seems fine. then he said it might be after having a baby, and it might take me a year or more to start loosing the weight. i almost fainted. i'm really anxious to see how not eating for 10 days will work this time. i hope it will like previously, especially that i have my baby's christening next weekend. as for eliminations, they r not happening like last time:( the doctor said it's normal and he has patients that have the same problem. well, i guess all the "crap" will just stay inside me, even with the MC. good luck everyone

It's Day 3 and things are going well.
I didn't have time to post yesterday, because I've been spending a lot of time on the www.SparkPeople.com website with the Master Cleanse group there. I do read everyone's posts and am glad that this group is a really supportive one!:)
I had an okay night last night, I was a bit cold again, but I was able to get some rest. I walked in the morning and did my T-Tapp workout when I got home. I drank my lax tea a little late last night, so it didn't do it's thing until after my walk this morning. The SWF went down okay, but I did use too much salt. I forgot to check the recipe last night, so I drank the brew with the extra salt again this morning. It worked, but it tasted yucky. Today I made sure to check, and found that instead of 2 tsp I have been using 4 -- 2 for each 16 oz glass of water. Tomorrow I'll be sure to do it right--1 tsp per 16 oz of water.
I did crave chocolate again today, but I drank my lemonade instead and did other things to distract me. Usually, the third day is the worst for me, today wasn't too bad though, but I'm glad it's over.
All in all, it's been a pretty good day :-).

Gotta tell y'all, I'm having a lot of nasal drainage. Mucous is just dripping!! Folks think I'm sick or something, but I'm not. This Master Cleanse is doing EXACTLY what its supposed to do. Its ridding my body of toxins one way or another.
My SWF went well this morning, my eliminations we NOT just liquid. Unbelievable - 5 days of no solid foods, and I'm still spitting out solid matter.....SMH. I just want my insides to be clean...so no complaints here!! .
Hey baddison, thanks for the reminder! :) I was thinking my sinuses were still draining from my recent cold. How annoying! :mad: I thought I was over it! Well, I'm sure I am now. Just the good old Master Cleanse. It's not much, but enough to be annoying. Your post was very helpful.
As for the eliminations, just a note, I was shocked when I did my 40-day cleanse to find that I still had solid matter eliminating, not every day, but occasionally up until even the last few days. So, even though docs tell us the body is efficient in eliminating, I'm sure there are pockets of stuff that just get caught in the folds of our intestines. So, yes, not surprising that after 5 days, you've got a little left inside!:eek:
Good morning day 3! :D
I just got a text from my 16 year old that he's got an off period at school today and can I pick him and a friend up and take them out to lunch.
Hey Katlady, what a cool son you have! Can I borrow him? :D I hope you did well drinking your lemonade while they probably ate gobs of food - it's the job of a 16-year old to eat and grow!

My hubby's dinner sure smelled good. He's a dear and fixed it himself, so I wouldn't be too tortured.

Today is my day 4 and it's almost over!!! Yahoo! Tomorrow, I should be home free (knock on wood). Lost 1 1/2 lbs. yesterday. Today probably nothing or very little - as I could not exercise today. I signed up for an all day class that goes from 8 - 5 on Wednesdays. Then I come in late to work and work until 8. So my Wednesdays go from 7:30 am to 8:30 pm. It was not easy sitting there with nothing but lemonade all day. I will not be doing the SWF on Wednesdays! :rolleyes: But I've skipped the SWF for a day a week in the past without any problem. Just more tea!

Every once and a while one of those moments sneaks up on you...and I think you're right - it seems to be when you are more toxic than usual. Maybe our bodies just can't stand to keep that stuff in even one more second! :rolleyes:
]Hi Fellow Lemonheads!!Happy Wave~~! Welcome back, Ratton!
One Question??? Am I not supposed to be brushing my teeth?
RbinaCooks in San Diego:)On some heavy detox days, it feels like my teeth are coated with crud. I brush them and they are carpeted again in 10 minutes. Those days I end up brushing my teeth 5 - 6 times, and , yes, with regular toothpaste. I still detox; I still lose weight; no negative side effects.
:) It means you're on the Master Cleanse. Guilty eating dreams are pretty normal for us lemonheads!

About when does the tongue clear up?
BTW, I have been way more chilly than EVER before.
I used to complain if the heater wasn't down to 68. Now....I have it on 75 and I am still cold. Not a preferable situation for a Colorado resident. Good thing I like to be chilly.

Hello all,
I am a newbie, finishing my third day, planning on 10.
I have read a good deal of this blog and wish Peter would answer more often instead of so much speculation.
My experiences:
I am following cleanse exactly.
1. today, more than days 1-2, I am H U NNNNNNN G R Y! This is no craving, I am hungry! Will this improve?
2. I am cold! I am currently wearing 3 layers, under a blanket, wearing UGGS and house temp is set to 70 degrees! What is going on? I am normally a cold person, but this is crazy. My usually normal bp has dropped: 125/55
3. My tongue is white and fuzzy, but I don't seem to have bad breath
4. I am not experiencing great energy, but just the opposite: have been very tired.
5. In anticipation of the MC, I eliminated caffeine from my diet so I wouldn't have to deal with that.
6. I regularly donate blood, and about 4 days before starting the MC, I was refused as a donor because my iron was too low. I was shocked! I haven't been ice-tea'ing it which can often be the culprit.
7. Pre-cleanse, I occasionally experience irregular heart beats, today I had long episodes. I had considered somehow getting iron/potassium into me, but what is the best way?
8. Starting the first day, after SWF, for one hour, I only have liquid eliminations: no solids. The rest of the day, nada. Is this typical?
Peter, care to comment?

Day 3 is thankfully coming to an end. Overall the day wasn't too bad...still having the extra BMs though it's happening closer to the evening now, so that's good. I wasn't as hungry later in the day like I was yesterday, so a definite relief there.
3 Days down and as Toni Braxton would sing..."Seven Whole Days" left to go. :D

1. today, more than days 1-2, I am H U NNNNNNN G R Y!
I can respond to some of the questions...and I'm sure others will chime in.
1) For me the hunger goes away after I drink the Lemonade drink. I've heard some folks doubling up on the drink if they're extra hungry. In my case I usually space out my drinks every 1 1/2 to 2 hours with at least 8 oz of water in between. If you're extra hungry, drinking some extra water in between should help.
2) Being cold is normal. It definitely doesn't help that it's wintertime for a lot of us doing this.
3) Normal even w/o the bad breath.
4) Everyone does respond differently. Some days you feel energetic, other days you don't.
5) Very good idea.
6) Could be other things not related to cleanse. Not sure. Though lack of iron would explain the coldness you feel. One of my friends had low iron and was put of pills and she feels a bit of warmth when taking the pills.
7) They say not to take extra vitamins or minerals while on cleanse. Perscriptions you can continue to take.

Hello all,
I am a newbie, finishing my third day, planning on 10.
I have read a good deal of this blog and wish Peter would answer more often instead of so much speculation.

Peter, care to comment?
In 4 years of coming on this board, I have only seen Peter answer a question ONCE. Generally, it's the moderators and us senior members. Most of what we say is not speculation, but can be found in the books, or is our personal opinion drawn from our own experiences on the cleanse.
Here's my input:
1) If you are hungry, drink more lemonade. There is no real maximum. Drink lemonade until you are not hungry any more. Do not cut back on the MS. Many people who are hungry are trying to cut down on the MS to lose weight. Don't.
2) "the coldies" is very common on the cleanse. A side effect of cleansing. You won't feel like that every day.
3) Some days you have bad breath; some days you have good breath. Not an issue.
4) The first few days of the cleanse, many people are tired. I am always tired the first few days. Occasionally, you will have a random tired day later on in the cleanse, when you are having a big detox day. Occasionally you will have a super-energy day. Most days you have plenty of energy, higher than when not on the cleanse, but less than the super energy days.
5) Great!
6) The low iron may be contributing to your feeling tired. Burroughs recommends no supplements while on the cleanse. Personally, I take B-complex and still have good results. If you are concerned about your iron levels, you can either choose to alter the cleanse and take supplements; stop the cleanse and build your iron supply up before starting the cleanse again; or consult a doctor to get a professional opinion.
7) I have had an irregular heart-beat all my life and the m. cleanse does not affect me negatively in any way. They say to eat dark green leafy vegetables for iron and bananas for potassium, but I'm sure you can find a list of foods high in either (or both) on line. Burroughs is against supplements period, recommending eating the right foods to achieve optimal health. All this, of course, after the cleanse.
8 ) Yes.

Day: 25
Thanks Benni,
Granny is much better, her body was ready to die but her spirit was too strong!
I think this cleanse is all about strengthening the spirit alongside spring gleaning the body.
I am fascinated by the BMs as they are so central to the detox.
I'm wondering when the bm is really dark is that contaminated with mucous plaque?
Would seriously like to see some actual diagnostics of the eleminations.
The thought of years of old junk coming out is uplifting.
Wondering where the fat goes is it eliminated as bile.
I've also read that when you pass a 'burning hot' bm it's not the pepper causing the heat but toxins!
I'm interested to know about the after cleanse probiotics; in my healthfood shop they are £28 but can get some on eBay for £5. Are the top end ones recommended?
I'm rather low on funds but don't want to risk my health.
Cheers & lemons
Bungholio !

Day 3 down!
No headache today...thank goodness! Woke up this morning to go paddle, and my partner bugged out..so I did the SWF instead!! Yippee for me!! ;)
I felt fairly normal day today...not too much hunger during the "normal" part of the day...then the hard part! I cooked a team dinner for my daughter's soccer team....ground turkey tacos with all the trimmings, special black refried bean casserole, mexican rice....I spent 3 hours cooking and preparing! I had a breakthrough though....I was hungry...(who wouldn't be;) after that) and I didn't taste a THING!! (good for me!) so when I was done preparing, I made my limeade with Agave (tastes like a margarita to me:D ) and it was totally satisfying! did I want a big taco with sour cream and avocados? Yes!...but I didn't need one to not be hungry anymore...that was cool! Good thing it was only day 3...don't know if I would have been as strong on day 8!!
I am enjoying the mental part of the cleanse....discerning my relationship with food and hunger...why am I eating, and when, and if it is true hunger that I am feeling.
I started this with a couple of friends of mine...and can see, it's best to do it by myself, and lean on all of YOU for support. Since I'm not really doing it by myself!
Thank you all for your stories and courage...it's nice to be on this journey with all of you!
Happy squeezing!!

Meedis & Lahnotani- Thanks for the input. Good to know others are cold.
Irregular heartbeat kinda made me anxious for a minute today. Never heard that it could be related to iron or potassium levels, but it makes sense.
Finished Day 3 and Super Positive vibes about my cleanse this time.
I had really achy joints day 1 and esp day 2, along with hip & lower back pain. Warm epsom salt bath completely helped. I fell asleep in Dr. Teals Calm Chamomile Salts!

WELCOME DAY 6! Sigh... got to get my brain in gear. Know how I advised that it wouldn't be a disaster if one had to skip a single night of tea? Good thing - since I fell asleep under the electric blanket last night while mine was steeping! Oh duh... Also have to miss the SWF as I need to get myself into work to complete a project prior to a meeting.... Back on track tonight!
For anyone who is interested - Day six begins and the one pound (or was it two pound?) loss I had experienced is gone. Back at day one weight.
Good thing it was only day 3...don't know if I would have been as strong on day 8!!
SO glad you made it through - I am normally suprised to find that day 8 is EASIER for me than day 3! I'm more in the groove by then. Pthers have said that past day 14 it is even more routine and they have even less desire to eat. (here's hoping!)
Hello all,

Peter, care to comment?
Welcome to you as well! One thing to keep in mind is that Peter set up this board and he wrote a book to tell us in detail what to expect and how to manage. Our posts are really just gravy after that (sorry for the food reference!) If you don't have his book - or Burroughs - you really should order one. (Burroughs is actually on line in full text in several places links are here in different places although I do worry about the copyright infringement violations in that - start there if money is a concern.) Also, I would suspect that if there was any information in the GENERAL HELP FOR NEWBIES (http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1154)thread that Peter felt was wrong or harmful, he would have suggested that it be stricken rather than maintain it as a sticky post. Read through the information there. I'm on my fifth cleanse and frankly I just reread a ton of it looking for answers for other folks and rediscovered some things I had forgotten - this board is an amazing resource. Best wishes for a successful cleanse! You can do it! (Hope I don't sound fussy as I didn't mean to)
HOPE IT'S EASY PEASEY LEMON SQUEEZY FOR YOU LEMON HEADS!

Well, yesterday's day 1 was a complete disaster. In my previous 6 times having done this cleanse, I have never had such a day 1. My caffeine addiction killed me. Though I tried easing in by having just tea 2 days ago, it wasn't enough. My coffee headache yesterday was unbearable. By about 6 pm I was completely incapacitated. Even as I tried to drink more LA (I had only finished 2 by then), I would vomit up what I drank. So, I managed only 2 yesterday, then drank my tea.
Today is day 2 and already so much better. I had a much needed tea elimination, and my headache is virtually gone. We'll see where the day goes from here.
I wanted to thank you all who submitted info about my father being on antibiotics. Especially lahontani. Seeing you on this board before, I feel like I've gotten to know you a bit, and was so sad to hear about your husband. You are a truly inspiring woman, and I believe we've all learned from your healthful journey. Thank you for being such a wonderful presence here.
And now, onward to a more calm (I hope) rest of my cleanse!

Awesome job on continuing! (a word to the wise - tea can have MORE caffeine than coffee depending upon the type how long you steep it.) My first cleanse was wicked - couldn't even keep down water by 10pm that first night. Funny thing was that my husband and I had gone out with friends to a bar to see a tribute band - they were all getting loaded and I was sober but I was the one in the ladies room throwing up! Totally no fair. People probably thought I was wrecked! LOL. But I kept on too and it was a great experience after that. (and yes, true confession, I did take an advil that night. probably came right back out though!)

Hello! Well I'm on day 10, but think I may need to continue on longer as I am definitely still detoxing! My tongue is kinda yellow (lovely), not gone pink yet, and I am still eliminating a lot of stuff! I've also come out in a rash on the inside of my elbows and in the nape of my neck. All of which makes me think the last couple of days have been big detox days for me so I'm going to try to go on a bit longer.
Also, a weird thing has been happening... I've started putting on weight! The first 6 days I lost a pound to a pound and a half a day, then on day 7 I stayed the same. Day 8 I put on 1/2 a pound. Day 9 I lost a pound and today I put on another half pound! This seems a bit odd... does anyone know why this might be? I'm following all the instructions in the book to the letter... Thanks!

Hey y'all~ I hope everyone is doing well. I was a little snappy yesterday and my day went to long....after tonight I have no more meetings and running around until Sunday. Thank goodness. It is tiring and makes be a bit uptight in the late evening. I do need my down time. Seem to be cruising along just fine.

Good going Meedis. I don't trust myself to have 'things' around during my Cleanse. I may not have the willpower if/when the cravings get really bad ;).

Thanks Benni. I admit the temptations are there. Somehow I find a way around it for the time being.
Just wrapped up on the SWF. I actually went back to sleep and just waking up now. Luckily I get to work from home again so just getting myself ready for another fun day at the job.

Good Morning Everyone.
Day 3...Last night I had a bit of a scare which turned out to be a big DUH, or maybe a Senior moment :o. I normally have my last Lemonade at 6pm, but at 7pm I was so hungry, no cravings here, full blown hunger :eek:. I was actually thinking of food. I know some of you say if you're hungry, have another Lemonade, but I've stuck to my 60 ozs per day...My choice !!! So, after talking myself "down from the ledge", I came into the bedroom and noticed my 6pm Lemonade on the night table,...What a relief.
I had not experienced that type of hunger during my first Cleanse, and really panicked wondering if this Cleanse was so different, that I may have more days like this. Thankfully, I was just absentmindedness:o.
That experience allowed me so understand why some people cave.
Bungholoi. Glad 'Granny' is better. I have always been a BM inspector of sorts:o. I gauge how long certain foods take before they are eliminated. Some foods, or particles of them are detectable.
I think old fats will be malodorous on elimination, and may not be as noticeable as thefat eliminations of Xenical or Alli (sp?) . Have you seen those pic :eek:.
I have 'hot' eliminations regularly because I love peppers, and have them with just about every thing I eat . So I attribute my 'hot eliminations' during the Cleanse to the Cayenne Pepper. I use a heaping 1/4 tsp in each Lemonade.
Have a Great day Everyone

Hello everyone,
Today is day 4 for me. I haven't had any detox symptoms until last night. My lower right side of my back started to hurt. Then last night I slept so hard I ended up sleeping passed my exerice routine! I went to bed with 3 extra blankets too. I woke up and feel shakey-not hungry. My BM look different today too, not just liquid. I feel like throwing up. I was worried because I wasnt showing any detox symptoms. Glad they started, but not at the same time.;) I hope everyone has a great day

I am amazed that I have made it this far. Starting day 6 with no food. I would have never believed it. I have seen the 3 day cleanse stuff and even the thought of one day with no food was blasphemy to me. I have no real hunger. Only cravings I have so far are just habitual snack desires or when I see some foods or candy. Each day is kind of its own adventure with new feelings and perspectives on things. I am starting to feel peaceful now, more confident. This is a greatly strange experience for me. My wife is amazed that I am doing this. me too.
I was wondering……..there have been times that I have craved just plain 'ole water. I have taken a few swigs of water here and there when I felt dehydrated.
Is it ok to supplement this thing with just plain water?
4 days to go on my first cleanse.;)
Being aware of the nasty day seven possibility.:o

It has been so many years since I have slept through the night. I tried the sleep number mattress for THOUSANDS of dollars, special pillows, window open, PM medicine, Nyquil and nothing works. But now with this I am actually getting rest.
I am sorry that you symptoms are all at once. Just hang in there knowing that tomorrow will be a good day.

OMG - this is becoming a really irritable day for me... grrrrr..... the folks I work with know I'm cleansing (a few of them do it too) and I just told them I am not allowed to conference call with certain individuals in our company during future cleanses! No patience for foolishness over here! I suppose I can blame it on the cleanse, but in reality this person always drives me nuts.... perhaps I may have even handled it better by being overly direct to him!

Hi, I am just starting the cleanse tomorrow, can you take medication while on the cleanse, say for a migraine, blood pressure meds or cholesteral meds? Plus I could use some motivation help and I do have a fear of intense pain from detoxing, I do know I am very toxic, so that scares me a bit.
Any Advice?

Hola day 4! Everything was easy breezy until my throat started to feel funny last night. I woke up to a flaming red sore throat this morning. It's not the end of the world but I was thinking about gargling with salt water or hydorgen peroxide to encourage the efforts of my immune system. Anyone else had a sore throat lately? This is MC11 for me and this is my first. Later -ds

DAY 5 - COMPLETE!
Hello....DAY 6!!!! Today is day six for me and I can't understand why after six days of no solid foods, I have only lost 4 measley pounds!! Its just ridiculous!!
Anyway I was speaking with my husband and daughter in the kitchen yesterday (....while she was grilling up some really thick, juicy Pork Chops for Dad's dinner....*sigh*....), and I was explaining to both of them that one of the best things this cleanse does for me is to help me re-evaluate my relationship with food.
Sometimes, I start to feel like food is simply over-rated. It is NOT the be-all/end-all panacea that we sometimes make it out to be. Food DOES NOT comfort me. It DOES NOT make me feel better when I am angry. Being on this cleanse lets me know that I can actually do without food whenever I want! I love how I am feeling today. I have not yet reached my halfway mark since I am going for a full 14days. BUt I sure hope the rest of my cleanse will be just as pleasant, and just as awakening.
And I sure hope lose more than just 4 stinkin' pounds!!! LOL!:D

I am so pleased...I have lost 6 lbs in the last 2 days:). I know it's just fluff weight, just glad to see them off the scale just the same.
Jonesing- Plain water is important to help flush out the toxins released by the body. I try to drink at least 5 16-ounce bottles per day in addition to the Lemonade.
Connie. Calming vibes coming your way. I can totally empathize with you though, my tolerance for 'crap', which covers a broad range... is ZERO !! Take 5, and meditate :)
Oceanfreak..Welcome. Your experience may not be like anyone else's. I did not have bad symptoms on my first Cleanse, and it was a long one, and so far none on this one either.
If your migraines become intolerable, then take your Meds. As far as prescribed Meds, I would suggest not stopping them without advice, or notifying your MD.
Wishing everyone, a great day 'Cleansing'

Day 4! Today I feel great! Am hardly hungry...I just had my first cup of LA and it's 11:30 a.m. where I am. I also feel very rested. But that could be because I overslept and didn't get up to do the SWF this morning. However, I'm learning the hard way why it's good to do the SWF after drinking the tea at night. At least with the flush, as early and annoying as those 2 hours might be, when they are done, they are done. With the tea and no SWF...I've been running to the bathroom all morning :( No bueno!

Mid-day check in. So far doing okay.... trucking through work. While I was slumbering after going through the SWF, I kept dreaming that I was eating cookies but kept trying to spit it out because I knew I was on the cleanse. Then I had eaten some split peas (weird) and swallowed it, almost lamenting that I failed on my cleanse. Then I woke up and realized I was having a food dream.
Food....YUM! Now I must go for a drink. :D

On Day 5 of MC 3#, and have had a very similar (good) experience so far. It always takes a few days to acclimate to not eating, but I have not felt hungry. I am always amazed that material is still eliminated as the MC progresses. I would think by day 5 or 6 there would be nothing left, and yet there still is. We're all full of it:-)
I am also intrigued by how my thinking gets sharper as the days progress. Days 2-3 are typically challenging, but today I felt 'on'. Mental acuity, sensory perception, hearing - it all seems more awake. Not sure why that is, but I do know that I begin the MC and I feel tired as I acclimate to drinking the lemonade drink the first 3 days, by by day 4 I can sense a change.
The 1st 2 MCs I did were 10 days, I am shooting for 13 this time, and will end next Friday. I am very interested to see how I feel by the end of this.
Good luck all -

Ok so obviously I am feeling over emotional. I am on day 4. I really want to eat. I feel full, but I want food! Second, detox symptoms just started today, which I am glad for! I feel like crying. Also I haven't lost any weight yet. I want to start fresh and new with a better understanding of myself and food. But I also want to start with less pounds. I am more than 50 pounds over weight! Why am I holding on to every pound? I am scared my metabolism will be slower when I am finished with the cleanse. Will that happen? When I end the cleanse and eat better will I put on more pounds? Please help:confused:

Sometimes weightloss is not immediate. But it will kick in. Gaining back some after the cleanse is normal. If you adopt a healthy and cleaner eating style, you will continue to lose weight. It could be that all this panic and self-doubt is part of your detox symptoms. Take a deep breath, relax and go journal your experiences. You are hanging in their like a champ!

Less pounds would be awesome... I am about 30 pounds overweight so I hear what you are saying. Here is the speech I am giving myself - maybe it will help you! LOL
"Our bodies are powerful, well designed machines... when we provide the opportunity to cleanse and rest some of our systems, it works on a prioroty list we may not understand. If repairs are necessary, if detox is necessary that's where the focus goes. Weight loss is not the goal - in fact underweight people may gain on the cleanse according to Burroughs. Weight loss is often a welcome side effect, but our best laid plans may go awry as we are not in control of the program!"

It is entirely possible that I have anger management issues as well as food issues - but I admit to NOTHING! LOL :rolleyes:

I am new to the MC and am on Day 4 and am feeling great!
I am concerned with what is coming out. I double on my tea bags last night and had a much better flush this morning. Day 2 and 3 were good. Today good as well. Headaches are gone. I have a question, am I not suppose to be using toothpaste to brush my teeth?
I can't wait until the end results. This is not for weight loss for me. This has been to rid my body of the toxins and to start eating well. Please let me know on the toothpaste thing if anyone has an answer for me.

Hi Rbinacooks....glad everything's going well so far. I'm on Day 4 as well and I'm doing pretty good myself. As far as toothpaste, I still use my regular toothpaste for brushing. In fact I may brush my teeth again soon, my breath feels so yucky.

Hello Peter, I am on day 4 and am feeling good. This is my first MC and I am very excited. I am still having slight headaches and last night I double my tea bags and my flush this morning was much better.
My question is about brushing my teeth. Am I only suppose to be using my tooth brush? No toothpaste?

Hi Meedis..I am just starting to get the swing of this type of networking. Thanks for letting me know it is ok...I too have been using my toothpaste. I saw somewhere in the book about a mixture of baking soda and something else, that is why I asked. I can't believe how NOT hungry I am. This is amazing. And I love knowing that all of this crap is leaving my body. How bout you?

I am just feeling so great today. Energy galore!!! Last Cleanse I was apprehensive to exercise (not sure why). So since I started this Cleanse, I have been exercising daily. I am probably trying to get as much 'in' for if, or when the blah days come.
I am probably posting this because I have too much energy, and have nothing else to do with it :D:D.

Energy is awesome! Probably why I post so much... when I am up I am roaring to go - but when it's time to shut down I am off! Will enlist my husband to wake my little self up if I fall asleep without actually drinking the tea I make tonight! :rolleyes: Time to go crawl under the electric blanket and watch some DVR'd stuff with the him now as a matter of fact - awesome to fast forward through those silly food commercials! It is no wonder that all any of us do is think of food when we are bombarded with image after image all day long...
This should be interesting - hubby has just started a diet hCG diet: majic drops and 500 calories a day of protein and fruit/veggies. Today is day one for him. This should be a challenge. I tried to explain that we on the master cleasnse get MORE calories than him, but he just does';t see it. You'd think after watching me smile through the last four cleanses (well except for day one the first time :rolleyes:) he'd be a believer... send him happy thoughts as this will be rough.

End of day 4 and I'm feeling good! I had a rough morning with very little energy, but after 2 drinks at lunch, I was ready to go. I had one of the best workouts I've had in a long time tonight. Kind of wanted to keep going, but figured I should ease up. I'm shooting for 20 days, so I don't want to do anything extreme right now. I'm sure glad I have this board. Everytime I have a moment of weakness, I jump on here, have some lemonade, and I'm back on track. Looking forward to the weekend when I can veg a litle more though... meetings are miserable when you're drinking as many onces of liquid as we do.

End of Day 6. Feeling great! My teas started kicking in the night before last so I am relieved with that. I feel like I'm getting some nasty toxins out! This morning when I woke up was the first day I've felt like my body has physically changed. I just felt lighter on my feet. It was nice. I also had an increase in energy during my work out today which was wonderful.
I've decided to definitely go 14 days. I'm not sure how I'll feel once I get there if I want to take it any further, but I just know I need another week at least. I haven't weighed myself since the first day. I don't want to focus too much on the scale instead of my body. Last time I weighed daily and would feel down if I didn't lose any. It really took away from the importance of the cleanse and made it more of a "get skinny" thing. This is a change for my body, but also for my mind and I need to keep focused on that.
What's the longest you've gone on a cleanse? And was it easier as time went on. I'm in such a routine now that it's almsot second nature and I don't want to go back to the days of having to plan, cook, and clean up a meal! Ha!

Ending day 3, and had to keep telling myself I was just experiencing typical day 3 cravings, and I only have 7 more days left, at least.
Then I realised...I am really hungry. Hungry because I forgot to have my last Lemonade.. AGAIN :eek:.
So much for mental clarity :o. I hope this does not become habit.

@Jessica; My longest Cleanse was 30 days. It really became a welcomed routine which I did not want to give up coming off the Cleanse. It took all the guess work out of meal planning for the day.
I make my day's worth of Lemonade every morning, bottle them, and I have my schedule for drinking them...Easy peasy. Only, it seem I keep forgetting to drink my last Lemonade two nights in a row :rolleyes:

Meee toooo!!! Ugh! End of day 4...feel great...not too many cravings, no headaches...but I didn't do the SWF this morning because of a meeting...so I did the tea instead....MAN! Instead of a rush of flush...I've been flushing all DAY!! Can't wait to be back on track tomorrow with my warm lemon-drop soup! :D

Hello to day 7!
So glad it isthe last day of the work week. Looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow and puttering around the house doing chores. I will have to brave the grocery store tonight as I purchase more purified water and organic lemons - thankfully I know a direct path to each aisle that doesn't take me through too many tasty treats. Thinking that my extra energy will bring some success on projects today and I can tick somethings off my list - yesterday was crazy non-stop!
Have a great day fellow cleansers - I'll be back on to stay on track later today - see you then!

It's Day 5 for me. In the process of letting the SWF do its magic. Today's an office day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there aren't any production issues that come up this month and force me to have to work this weekend. Looking forward to relaxing as much as possible this weekend sans a trip to the store for more lemons or limes.
I also have to find some time today to change my condo/townhouse insurance to home insurance. Apparently all these years (been living in townhouse for 10 years) I was supposed to get a homeowner's policy and not a condo/townhouse policy even though my place is a townhouse and I have to pay association fees. Found out from association that they only cover common areas. A recent refinance nightmare bought this to my attention.
Anyway end of side rant.

Start of day 5 for me. This is my 6th or 7th cleanse since 2008, and I started with 2 other people, and am the only one still on it. This one has been a struggle for me- so many cravings. That's why I'm trying hard to stay on it. I am finally starting to feel really good so that will help. I just wanted to see if anyone else has jaw clenching issues during sleep. The past two days I've woken up with a stiff jaw so I know I've been clenching it during my sleep. Whenever I have this problem when I'm not cleansing I make sure I take some extra minerals and even a stress formula with herbs and vitamins. Do you think this is a detox problem? I don't want to have worse issues with it for 5 more days... If anyone else has experience with this, please let me know! Thanks!

I wonder how long this is going to last. Have a great Friday everyone. I am going to will myself to talk a shower. -ds

I am on day 9. Piece of cake! I did not have the usual rough days as the book noted due to a couple of Ion foot baths (Detox). Its a good way to assisting the body of ridding the toxic build up in the system and enhances the cleanse. I'm still going by the book by the way!
Also some may need to take the time and do some walking if possible to spark up that metabolism.
I give a lot of credit to all those on the MC and still have to work for a living or care of the kids. By all means give yourself the proper rest that is needed to succeed.
Just a little side note: I know what the book says about "cayenne", but if some of you are having some problems with it, cayenne is a "nightshade' and MAY NOT work for your system. Educate yourselves and don't be afraid to make some minor adjustments if you need to. The MC does work.
Keep on keeping on!

Day 3 here. Finally feeling rested, and normal. I love the feeling I get while on the cleanse. It's a lightness, but not a weakness. I feel like I don't have a care in the world, even when work is piling up. I tend to be even more productive.
Checked out a new gym yesterday. It has saunas, dry and steam. I've never used a steam sauna, how do they work? What are the benefits, if anyone knows? Anyway, I'm sure this can be a great relief at cleanse-day workout! Hopefully I'll start going today.
My fiance, who is also doing the cleanse, had an interesting reaction today. We tried using the 100% senna tea (one bag for the two of us) as opposed to smooth move last night, and this was the first time he felt anything from the tea. I usually get a pretty strong night elimination from the pure senna (which I did last night), and a milder one from smooth move, which is why I was using that. But seems, for those of you who don't have enough of a reaction, the pure senna might be the way to go!
Happy cleansing all!

Let's see….Day 7…awww..I was hoping it was day 8. Kinda loosing track of the days. I now understand how someone could go for, what was that crazy number?, 40 days
So day 7 and feeling good. I am still a little high. It is kinda like when I first started prozac. Now I am off of it and not stressed at all.
You know? I used to get upper arm pimples. It was kind of an acne thing. Yeah, my arms are scarred up and it is gross. But now the skin is clearing up with no pimples. The scars are still there but smoothing out and no new pimples. I wonder what i was ingesting that caused that? I wonder if it was the coffee. Years of coffee. I am gonna miss that coffee flavor.
Doing things doesn't seem like such an effort anymore. interesting.
I am rambling now…..
(You guys will let me know if I start sounding crazy…..wont you)
Anyway, good luck with your cleanse out there.

Good Morning Fellow Lemonheads!!!
This is day 3 for me, and so far so good! I went Sporting Clays shooting yesterday afternoon, and after the shoot the guys hang out and have an adult beverage to two; I would have liked to have had a cold one, but sipped away on my lemonade. I get a few wise cracks about "drinking that stuff", but they have got use to me doing it several times a year. They think it is a strange thing to do, but I know it is good for my body.
When I got home my first thought was to make some popcorn, as I usually pop up a fresh batch every day; then it hit me I was on the cleanse so I settled for another fresh glass of lemonade.
I had the dreaded chills when I went to bed last night and had to get up and put some more blankets on, I guess I should look at getting an electric blanket. For me the worst part of the cleanse is getting cold as I HATE being cold!!!, but it is normal and I accept it.
Hope everyone has a great day!!!
Thanks!
Hi Kaybee,
The same thing happens to me, some days I lose, some days nothing changes and some days I gain, but in the end I am down in total weight loss. This is why some people don't weigh themselves every day. I have learned that each of my cleanses is different and a will lose or gain weight on different days, it is normal.
Send some calming waves my direction while I go get some LA! :p
Hi C Mack,
Sending some your way; just keep sipping on your lemonade!!!
Today is day six for me and I can't understand why after six days of no solid foods, I have only lost 4 measley pounds!! Its just ridiculous!!
Hi baddison,
Weight loss is different for each person; some lose it gradually, some fast, some early, some late and some have to go more that 10 days to lose what they want. Remember 10 day is just the minimum you should be on the cleanse for, so it will happen, just give it time.
What's the longest you've gone on a cleanse? And was it easier as time went on. I'm in such a routine now that it's almsot second nature and I don't want to go back to the days of having to plan, cook, and clean up a meal! Ha!
Hi JeZzGuH,
The longest I have gone is 35 days, and it does get easier the longer you go. You do relish the extra time you have from not having to plan, prepare and clean up from daily meals, just doing the lemonade smoothie is so easy! Stay on it as long as you can and your body is allowing you to. The longer cleanse has additional benefits.

Day 5! Halfway there! For the past couple of days I have had some of the worst body aches I have experienced. I already have some back issues and they are hurting 10x more than usual right now. And my legs! The aching/throbbing in my legs is unbearable. :( But I'm not quitting! I've made it this far I will keep going! At least its the weekend...break from work and going to class should help. And not having to wake up at 4:30 for the SWF. On the upside, I'm getting those clear eyes again, I have some energy back and I feel lighter and emptier...Love that feeling!
Happy Cleansing!

Today is my day 6. Have lost a total of 11.5 lbs. It was all recent Christmas food weight, though...had only been on me for 2 - 3 weeks, so slipped off nice and easy. Now comes the slower weight loss. Yesterday I went to spinning and the teacher and some of the class wanted to go snowshoeing up Waterhouse Peak (elev. 9,400). I'd never been and went with them. It totally wiped me out. I only made it halfway (the total climb is 1,700 ft., so I'm thinking I went about 900 ft., very steep incline). I felt bad that I didn't make it to the top, but it WAS my first time snowshoeing, and I hadn't eaten in 5 days, jeez!! Came home, took a shower, and lay in bed for 45 minutes until I had to go to work. lol. Could have sworn that I posted something yesterday, but maybe I was so tired I just dreamed that I did. :p
Thanks! It may have to do with the time of day and/or activity level you are at when you weigh yourself. A person's weight fluctuates throughout the day, so it's important to weigh yourself at the same time every day. Weighing yourself more than once a day will just confuse you. I generally weigh myself about 5 - 10 minutes after I wake up, after I've had my morning elimination, but before I drink the SWF. But if your schedule is different every day, then just using the same time will not be enough. If some days you can sleep in and other days you have to set the alarm extra early and are in a rush to get to work on time - your energy level will be different and it will show up on the scale. Try for a good consistent time of day, whenever that may be.
Another possibility: are you female? You could be retaining water before your period. The Master Cleanse often accelerates women's cycles so that you will start earlier than expected.
A lot of people here (most?) choose not to weigh themselves at all; they find the scale to be emotionally destructive and concentrate on the detox and the changes in their body, instead. I'm the opposite, the scale really helps keep me focused. Do what you need to do to keep yourself strong on the cleanse.
I was wondering……..there have been times that I have craved just plain 'ole water. I have taken a few swigs of water here and there when I felt dehydrated.
Is it ok to supplement this thing with just plain water? This question has been answered, but I wanted to add: not only are you allowed to drink water, you are required to drink water in the cleanse. The minimum is supposed to be an equal amount of water to lemonade. The non-Master Cleanse general health formula for water is 1/2 oz. of water per lb. of body weight. i.e., if you weigh 150 lbs., you should drink 75 ozs. of water every day. THEN, if you're under any stress at all - like Detoxing (also emotional stress, health problems, dry climate, etc.), you should up the water to 3/4 oz. per lb. of body weight. If a person is seriously overweight, say 300 lbs., this would amount to a fishtank worth of water, which is a bit difficult, but drink as much water as you can.
Hi, I am just starting the cleanse tomorrow, can you take medication while on the cleanse, say for a migraine, blood pressure meds or cholesteral meds? Plus I could use some motivation help and I do have a fear of intense pain from detoxing, I do know I am very toxic, so that scares me a bit.Any Advice? We cannot give out medical advice here. There should be a thread on the front page of the BB that addresses questions about medication. When in doubt, consult a health care professional. I have seen people on this board doing the cleanse on blood pressure medication. Generally, migraines disappear while on the cleanse - at least after the first few days. The cleanse helps regulate your cholesterol level, but whether you should or shouldn't take any medication depends more on the severity of your condition and the length of time you've been dependent on it.
It is entirely possible that I have anger management issues as well as food issues - but I admit to NOTHING! LOL :rolleyes: Twenty years ago, you would have been accused of being "on your period." That's not PC any more, so they clung to whatever seemed available - the cleanse. It's entirely possible that you were more irritable yesterday. But it's also entirely possible that he was, too. Maybe he hasn't been "getting enough" lately....lol.
I am on my 3rd Day of the M.C.
I usually do this cleanse 4 times a year but in 2010 I think I only did it 2 or 3 times. I was feeling unmotivated to do my usual, I guess. But as usual I feel amazing!!!:D Welcome back. I'm surprised I don't remember seeing you here before, since we're both frequent cleansers. New profile pic, maybe?
For an all natural, herbal, caffeine-free coffee substitute, go try Teeccino! (After the cleanse) It really tastes great! Not like any other coffee substitute I've tried (postum....yech!) They have a website: http://www.teeccino.com/ so you can order on line (my favorites are the Maya coffee and the Amaretto). You can also find some flavors at Whole Foods and in some larger grocery stores (sometimes the health food aisle, sometimes the coffee aisle).
I used to get upper arm pimples, too. I'm allergic to everything. I found the thing that helped them the most was using moisturizing lotion. Now I just have one small, hard, growth on my upper left arm. Even the doctors don't know what it is - like some kind of hard polyp. But it's not cancerous. Every time I do the cleanse it dries and falls off, then grows back smaller each time. I'm hoping that one of these cleanses, it will fall off for good.

Thankyou! Yes, I am female and so your second suggestion makes sense, I probably am retaining water, it hadn't occured to me! I weigh myself same as you, in the morning, after first elimination, before SWF. So it must be a pre-menstrual thing. Thanks for the reassurance.

Hello all,
I am a newbie, finishing my third day, planning on 10.

I'm on day 5 and going strong. I haven't really experienced anything too difficult. While my main focus for the cleanse is to detox and get back to my healthy self, weight loss comes in as a close second. I'm in the middle of day 5 and I've only lost 3 lbs. Is that normal? I've done 3 cleanses in the past, and have lost anywhere from 8-15 lbs, but this time I actually NEED to lose a little weight (15 lbs). I'm exercising daily, and I feel great. I'm still planning to do 20 days, but my scale moment today got me a little discouraged. Any tips on how to accelerate the weight loss? I'm drinking 6-8 drinks a day.

ooops so sorry! I did not mean to post twice! I successfully deleted the second post...
Thank all of you who answered my first post, it has helped me remain determined.
I am on day 5, still huuuuuuunnnnnnngggggggrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy and my heart is flippity floppity real bad today which is disconcerting. While moderately exercising, my pulse was a really high 145 (normally 110).
But, I am determined to make it to day 10. Mostly because you guys believe so strongly that this MC works and not some hocus pocus.
I think the toughest part for me is cooking for my kids and not being able to partake. Yeeouch I love food.

You'll be amazed how that changes by the end of the cleanse. Food usually becomes less of a habit and more of a necessity. At least that's how it seems to work for me.

The last two days have been tough. I'm on Day 6. Up all night because my cycle began in the middle of the night and it has made the day pretty challenging since I can't really take anything for it. Plus I'm just tired and feel yucky. I'm hoping all this detox will be released tomorrow morning, so I can feel a bit better tomorrow. I am not really craving anything, but there are moments I just want to fall back into my old routines, which I can't do on this cleanse.
It looks like some of you are having great days, which is wonderful. I hope it gets better for those detoxing.

Hi everyone,
I am on day 13 on what is supposed to be a 40 day cleanse. I was doing just fine until I read the thread on hair loss. A few months back I lost a ton of hair but attributed it to having bleached it. Now after reading the hair loss thread I think it might have been due to doing the cleanse. So I am really discouraged about staying on the cleanse. So my question is for the people who have done the cleanse a few times. What have your experiences been in regards to hair loss been after you are off the cleanse (looks like it occurs about 2 months later)? Did you lose hair ever or just once or after each 10+ day cleanse?
Pre-thankyou for your responses

No worries! I was just concerned that since you wre new you were having trouble navigating (I still have trouble navigating!)
If you are hungry - drink more lemonade! and more water - the wise ones here point out often that often when we think we are hungry we may only be thirsty. I find that I often feel dehydrated.
If you are worried about heart palpitations - maybe you should ease back on the exercise a bit until you are more comfortable on the cleanse?
As far as the potassium, Burroughs notes that, "The maple syrup has a large variety of minerals and vitamins. Naturally the mineral and vitamin content will vary according to the area where the trees grow and the mineral content in the soil. These are the minerals found in average samples of syrup from Vermont: Sodium; Potassium; Calcium; Magnesium; Manganese; Iron; Copper; Chlorine and Silicon. Vitamins A, B1, B2, B6, C, Nicotinic acid and Pantothenic Acid are also present in the syrup (p 11)." and also that, "The lemon is a loosening and cleansing agent with many important building factors. The ability of the elements in the lemon and the maple syrup working together creates these desired results. Its 49% potassium strengthens and energizes the heart, stimulates and builds the kidneys and adrenal glands(p 14)."
So from that perspective - potassium is probably not at a loss?
Hope things normalize soon for you!

I am on day 4 and feeling ok, but frustrated. I am able to do the SWF each morning, but have yet to experience any movement from that. I incorporated the tea in the morning as well, but still not much has happened. I am not a heavy meat or dairy eater at all - in fact those are the two food groups I eat the least - so I am not sure why things are not moving for me. Should I increase the salt in the morning? In addition to the SWF and tea, I am doing the lemonade recipe perfectly, drinking lots of water and have not cheated. So why is this not working?

hmmm.... I can't say that I have noticed any change in hair loss due to the cleanse? Hope that isn't it... I vote for the bleaching. Here's a question, do you suppose the body would try to cleanse itself of the toxins in colored hair by dumping the hair? I have decided I don't really care about my gray any more. I'm 45 and darn it I like myself! (channeling Stewart Smalley for a minute there!) Therefore no more hair color. Maybe a coincidence...

Day 6 - complete!
Day 7 is here....and I'm feeling wonderful. I have reached my halfway mark, as I am going a full 14days. I am in no hurry, and no rush to get back to food anyway....it will all be there when my cleanse is over. To be perfectly honest, with some of the caked-in, compacted stuff that's jammed up against the walls of our intestines, I dont even think 14days is enough to really loosen it all. But at least its a start!!!

I think the toughest part for me is cooking for my kids and not being able to partake. Yeeouch I love food.Take it easy on yourself - be sure you're drinking more lemonade whenever you're hungry, and not cutting back on the lemonades or the maple syrup to try to lose weight faster. If you're heart is bothering you - listen to YOURSELF more than us. We aren't there and can't tell if it's just a really big detox, or something to be seriously concerned about. General guidelines - drink lots of water, get plenty of rest - may help you get over a detox that is affecting your heart. However, keep in mind that most detox symptoms this far into the cleanse, rarely last more than a day. So, if this problem keeps up, you might want to see a doctor about it.

Did you lose hair ever or just once or after each 10+ day cleanse? Pre-thankyou for your responses Did you check out the link to the hair loss/growth cycle that I posted at the end of that thread? It really helped me feel better. This is my 18th cleanse, and I've had hair loss in about 6 - 8 of them. The first few, and then any ones that came after a long period of not cleansing. My hair is definitely thinner than it was 4 years ago before I started cleansing. But there is no way to tell if that is due to the cleanse, just my age, or some sort of pre-menopausal side effect. I am 50 years old (and female :rolleyes: ) I do know that every time I went through a hormonal change of life (at 12, with my pregnancies, and now) my hair thickness was affected. Right now, I have a ton of "new growth" hair that is about 3 - 6 inches long. If I put my hair up in a bun, an hour later, I look like Einstein, with all the wispy hairs standing out like crazy all over my head. It is only the long, older, hair that goes down past my shoulder blades that is thin. I've also thought that the hair loss might be due to chemicals in the "high volume" shampoos that are supposed to make thin hair look thicker. I stopped using those about 2 months ago, so too early to tell if any of those chemicals affected my scalp negatively. No hair loss (so far) on this cleanse, or on my last 2 or 3.
I am on day 4 and feeling ok, but frustrated. I am able to do the SWF each morning, but have yet to experience any movement from that. I incorporated the tea in the morning as well, but still not much has happened. In addition to the SWF and tea, I am doing the lemonade recipe perfectly, drinking lots of water and have not cheated. So why is this not working? Yes, increase the salt. Try 2 ROUNDED tsps. instead of flat. If that doesn't work, try 2 1/2, and keep stepping it up until you get results. Also, read the SWF thread for tips and tricks that might help you.

Please help:confused:
i'm having the same problem in this MC. i'm not loosing as much weight as previously. and the last one was also crazy. i did 17 days and lost 9 lbs in 9 days and then the scale hasn't moved. just don't give up. trust me i feel like crying myself and had few thoughts about quitting, but i know i can't. as for gaining the weight back, the last MC was the only one where i kept the weight off. i kept a journal and noted my calories. i tried not to have more than 1400 a day. and it worked, and actually i was not hungry on less calories, u just have to find the right foods that r not that fattening and keep u full longer. good luck

I have never lost my hair during/after a long cleanse, but tend to lose my hair after being under major stress. It happens about a month after the stress has passed(like a death or family crisis), so at first I didn't know what was going on. Now that it's happened a few times I am no longer surprised, just relieved when it stops (I have thin hair). I love your name, very cool. Don't get psyched out by other peoples experiences. You are not that person, so chances are if you did start losing you hair on this cleanse it wouldn't even be for the same reason:) -ds

Day 4
Welcome to All that just joining us for the first time, and those doing their first Cleanse of 2011. Hope you all have a great Cleanse. :)
Day 4 has been great so far. I had an early, and very long day. Energy level is still great, just have to contend the chills. While away from home, I frequently had to remind myself I am on the Cleanse and could not have anything to drink or eat. Really wanted a cup of Coffee for the chills, and a Salad. Fortunately, I took along with me a few bottles of LA, but lapsed with my water intake, and still behind on 1 LA.
Since I do the Lax Tea, I 'go' frequently, and did not want to be stuck in traffic with the *need*:o. Will make up for it though.
I read somewhere driving 'burns' more calories than resting, so hopefully that will make up for my lack of exercise today :D.
Take Care.

On day five here and feeling much brighter and more energetic and not as stiff in my muscles and joints already. Yesterday I suffered the most excruciating migraine ever ....it came on the night before and continued into the day and night and this morning I still had some remnants but about two hours after the SWF that started to fade completely. I tried everything I could think of to help get me through it without drugs (I rarely ever take pills) but ice packs, hot packs, hot epsom salt bath and sleep didnt help......so I took two strong sleeping pills in the end. I rationalised that tomorrow I could start again/taking medications was necessary in this case. Think the bad reaction was from my surgery as it was the right side including my shoulder (surgery) and right neck and right head (where I normally get migraines. Interesting side effect was a distinctively foul odour from the right armpit under the surgical site.......none whatsoever from the left armpit. Today I still have the same odour but not as bad.............so guess its all coming out in a detox.
Now I am debating weather to call this my first day because I had to take those sleeping pills (if you have had a true migraine you will realise no painkiller works only deep sleep). Or do I justify the action and continue my MC headed to 30 to 40 days........ What would you do?:confused:

Hello all and TGIF! I'm winding down Day 7. It was soo hard to get up this morning. I barely got down my SWF and still had about 7 ounces to go. Oh, well. Once I was up and going at work I was fine, it was just the getting going that was difficult. The more I read and get on here the longer I want to go on the cleanse. I really haven't felt hungry at all, just wanting food every now and then. I honestly haven't browsed the fridge or pantry once. I just don't know why I can't have this willpower when I'm not cleansing. I have terrible control over the amount of food I typically eat. I need to get a grip on portion sizes! My VS swimsuit catalog came in the mail today so I've got some motivation. :)

Today is Day 5; I didn't post yesterday, because there was really nothing to report and I didn't have much time after I got done with everything else life throws my way. All went well yesterday as did today, and Day 5 is coming to an end.
I had my lax tea last night, and according to my hubby, I slept pretty well--I snored :-). I worked out in the morning as usual and went to work for a few hours before I picked up my DH to drive to the hospital for a stomach biopsy scheduled for this afternoon. Because of the biopsy, I had to abstain from anything but water and tea until after it was over, so I didn't get to drink my lemonade until late in the afternoon. I'm starting to add more cayenne, which for some reason I almost crave the further I get into a cleanse.
My procedure went well, and after I got home I slept for a couple of hours. Better living and sleeping through chemistry :-). I actually don't like to take any sort of drugs, but the alternative here was to swallow a huge tube without any sedation and I wasn't up for that. The MC should help detox my system from the drugs in any case, and I'll know in a few days whether I have anything to worry about in the way of cancer.
I'm feeling great though, and I have faith that I'm okay. Off to drink my lax tea and off to bed I go...

Day 5 coming to a close! :D
Felt a little better today, just a case of "why me", "poor pitiful me" going on. Does anyone else ever feel like "why do I have to do this?", "why can't I just be one of those people who can eat whatever I want", the world is so unfair you see....:mad:
And my nose has regained it's superpowers. My husband smells like the "stench of rotting death" again.:eek: I have trouble even sitting in a car with him. And my son opened a bag all the way across the room and I got a huge whiff of corn chips like I had just stuffed my head in the bag.
Husband is whining about the "stench of rotting death", because he has it sometimes even when I'm not in supernose mode, and he can shower and brush his teeth and still have it. I told him I thought it is just coming out of his pores and maybe a good cleanse would clear that little issue up. So he tasted my LA and then made a huge "whiny baby that just got a spoonful of spinach" kind of face and that was that.:(

@hlthnt. Hoping you get great results. Positive Vibes coming your way ;).
@KatLady. It is surprising how we get used to certain odors that after-time they are no longer noticeable. Then comes the Cleanse, and most of them are offensive, especially food :eek:, and we can't even have a taste.
I am with you, because just about any thing I eat will put on the pounds. Maybe it's because I prefer to sit around and relax, instead of moving about. It's just too tiring:D.
Now that the weight is coming off, I am more inclined to work harder to keep it off. No going back for me!!
Have a Good Night Everyone

Wow. Lots of posts today. Cool to see all the activity. Anyway I'm at the halfway point for me. End of Day 5...nothing too bad today. Roads were a little slick on the way home from work. I passed several accidents along the way. I had one last limade with me that I drank in the car, grateful that my hour and half commute wasn't longer. Typically I get home in just under an hour.
Anyway will drink my smooth move in another 45 minutes or so and call Day 5 a wrap.

Hey y'all~
It's Saturday but I am up at my normal wakeup time and trying to get all of the SWF down. I made it a little too cool this morning...ugh! There is a fine balance between too warm and too cool....
Already having eliminations of the more solid variety so the SWF should speed up the process.
Going to take it one day at a time after 10 to see how far I can go this time. My goal is 22 days, but I will need to keep my mind in it. I, too, get the whiny voice battle going on in my head...sigh
@hlthnt~ I pray everything turns out okay and for the best.
Hoping to catch a little more shut eye in a bit.....

Yep I feel like that and have to change my negative thinking with positive afirmations like' each day I am becoming better and better" and 'this is for hralthy healing of my body" I look at food and it jumps onto my hips like the Michelin Man ....lol. I have an acute sense of smell anytime but know what you mean during cleansing times on MC. A good test to see if you have bad breath is to lick the back of your hand and let it dry and then smell it.........wheeeeeew!
No use telling the big brave men to do the cleanse....it rarely works until they have the mndset to do it for themselves.......best to lead by example and let them see how, healthy, vibrant and attractive it helps you to achieve. I actually prefer th swf instead of Smooth Move 2x's per day. With the swf, once the eliminations are over, :they're done for the day. With the 2x's lax tea, its a constant running to the bathroom 'round the clock.:mad: Six more days to a healthier me! Already I'm looking forward to my mid-year cleanse!:eek:

Good morning day 8!
Apparently - Friday night is THE night at Whole Foods! The place was so packed that despite driving around the parking lot for over 10 minutes a parking place never opened up. Felt bad as so many people were trying their upper level garage space (where there were virtually no spots) and once you are up there the whole parade of cars cannot go until the first one in the loop makes it back down in a long snake....frustrating! Running up there now for more water, lemons, and cayenne. I am completely out of the first two items. SWF when I return. Need to make it fast though as I am super thirsty... don't want to add any extra water before the flush.
The scale now says three pounds lost - here's hoping tomorrow is even better.
Starting to have doubts as to my 28 day plan. THinking of cutting back to 21 or maybe even 14.... I know that I COULD do it, just not sure if I WANT to do it that long. Also, the fact that I just did 10 days is November is worrying me - was my body really ready for this with enough nutrient reserves? I didn;t have the worst diet, but certainly not the best either. Will have to meditate on that for the next week and see. I know we all say just take it one day at a time, but I know me and I would NEVER add on. That's why I set the goal at 28 to begin with. That being the maximum time to allow for ease out before events in the beginning of February.
Anyway - feeling good despite my doubts - wishing all of you the best!
Danceshine - how's hubby? well I hope.
hlthnt - thinking of you and saying a prayer.

...It LOOKS solid, but after accidentally allowing the belt of my robe to slip into the bowl (:eek: horrifying) I have determined that it is not really solid but more like brown globules of mucousy fatty clumps which hold together and look failry solid.
Hey Connie (C Mack): Sounds like u had your 1st encounter with the infamous BLACK SNAKE. I"m sure that was quite the experience for you. I know it has been for me. YOU GAVE THE PERFECT DESCRIPTION. :eek: I'm glad you posted that info because when I posted mine during my last cleanse people consistently questioned my sincerity. All the "I've never heard of that" and "I've never experienced that" statements were getting kind of annoying.
It's my 2nd time around and it seems the globules (as you so eloquently named then :o) are presenting themselves earlier in the cleanse. I think my post cleanse diet may have had some influence on that (see my post to Firelemon below). I'm on Day 8 and have already had smaller mucoid plaque deposit expunged during eliminations starting with Day 2. There seems to be a little bit each day. This is a grave difference from what I experienced during my original cleanse. It took 21 Days to see the 1st black snake. That one was HUGE. Nevertheless, I thank God for it. As my grandmother says, "Better OUT than IN" Glad to see that foolishness in the toilet instead of in me.
Side Note: BLACK SNAKE = MUCOID PLAQUE for those who have yet to experience it
Hi, I am just starting the cleanse tomorrow, can you take medication while on the cleanse, say for a migraine, blood pressure meds or cholesteral meds? Plus I could use some motivation help and I do have a fear of intense pain from detoxing, I do know I am very toxic, so that scares me a bit.
Any Advice?
HEY OCEANFREAK:
In his book, Peter Glickman stated that in the original MC Stanley Burroughs did not say anything about stopping medications, but did advise that no SUPPLEMENTS be taken. My advice is to continue taking your medications as instructed by your physician. Secondly, I suggest that you do a post cleanse follow up with your doctor to check your blood pressure/cholesterol levels. If you follow the MC as written you should see significant improvements (I did). ESPECIALLY, if you go for more than 10 days. In short, DO TAKE YOUR MEDICATIONS!
And by the way, WE'RE ALL VERY TOXIC! You are NOT alone.
Hey there FIRELEMON:
It's almost been two months since my last cleanse. It was 30 days and I haven't experienced hair loss. . I actually experienced a significant improvement in hair strength and growth as a result of the cleanse. Hair loss like that is usually a sign of vitamin/nutrient deficiency. Since we are deprived of some nutrients during the cleanse, perhaps the reason some experience hair loss post cleanse is that their level of deficiency was higher than others PRIOR to beginning the cleanse. Just a theory.
I do want to let you know that post cleanse I completely changed my diet. Though I'm not a raw foodist, I increased my intake of fruits and veggies (raw, lightly steamed or roasted) to 60% of everything I eat. I eat a primarily pescatarian diet (fish) and cook most of my meals at home (when I have eaten out, I aim for mom and pop diners vs. food chains). I SIGNIFICANTLY LIMIT by intake of all other meats and dairy. I'm confident these changes have contributed with my success post cleanse. So this may be an option for you. By no means am I trying to convert you to vegetarianism but I am suggesting that a change in your diet could possibly prevent anything you're concerned about in the area of hair loss. After all, WE ARE WHAT WE EAT. :) I hope this has been helpful. Blessings & best of cleansing, Chepina

[SIZE="3"][COLOR="Green"] Hey Connie (C Mack): Sounds like u had your 1st encounter with the infamous BLACK SNAKE.
Nope - no black snake at all. Just small globules that are easily separated in the bowl, maybe the size of a pea to the size of a grape? Color might be described as a reddish medium brown. This was NOT a solid material and turned to slime when the belt touched it. When I grabbed my belt back up out of the bowl there was nothing there that was solid at all - just slime. (aren't you all glad you didn't eat breakfast! LOL) Needless to say the entire robe was wisked to the washer immediately with the hottest water and meanest soap I could find!
I imagine that the mucoid plaque would be more of a solid, in rather flaky layers that would hold together if pulled from the bowl - at least that is based on all of those pictures that show folks holding them up out there on the internet. They would need to be solid - other wise they would never "stick" and stay stuck the way they are descirbed to? I imagine that if one took an archeologist's approach to them they would be somewhat flaky, or in layers rather like sedimentary rock? But yet soft to the touch and would definitley hold together.

Hi everyone - This is my second MC. I did my first over 3 years ago and I lasted for 22 days. I'd almost forgotten about this forum but then remembered where I found a lot of great advice and support. The people here were awesome so I'm logging back in for round 2.
Unfortunately, I have a 14 day limit this time as I have a 4 day work trip scheduled to Las vegas where I will be dining with co-workers. With all of the tempting food in Vegas, I'll have to be careful about what I eat since it will be just a few days after breaking the fast. Depending on how this goes, I might start another one shortly after I return. We shall see.
Anyway, I'm now on day 5. So far, things are going fine. I've been attempting to keep up with some limited physical exercise during the cleanse. Days 1 through 3 were an hour of cardio each day. Yesterday, was more like 20 minutes though. I was pooped so I stopped. I'll try it again today if I feel up to it a bit later.
Just wanted to say hi and wish luck to those on their MC journey!

Hi everyone. Day 6 for me. I totally slept in after doing the SWF and just waking up now. I'm a little behind on drinks though I don't feel hungry yet. Will hopefully have my first drink in another ten minutes or so. Either today or tomorrow I'll need to make a run to get more water and limes. No rush though as I have enough for the weekend but anticipate being out by Monday.

Sigh... I'm not sure if it is torture or preparation, but I've been reading my new cook book (gift from my son for christmas) "Food Matters", reading Vegetarian Times magazine (not ready to go there all the way, but awesome recipies for better choices!), and wathcing Food Network - this morning is "lighten it up" Ah... masochism :D

Today i feel fine. Oh on another note i still have very bad cramps with the senna tea..But after going to the bathroom they go away. But boy are they bothersome...Question for the ladies?....Are the cramps that are experienced whit menstation the same as the cramps experienced with the senna tea...Just curious...

I've been doing the same thing. Going through my Vegetarian Times and watching the Food Network. There is some sort of comfort in watching other people eat. The same with my nephews, although they bought pizza last night and the smell was both gross and stirred up my cravings. Terrible combination of feelings.
Day 7 for me and I'm having a very low energy morning. My cycle is probably somewhat to blame for that. I'm hoping that Day 8 will bring some new energy. We'll see. I really want to do 14 days because I hear of how much people gain from those days after Day 10, but I'm just feeling like I'm not sure if I can make it. I guess I'll have to see how I get through Day 10.

Sorry you had such a rough morning. The cramps are not the same for me. There is a distinct cramping I feel in my stomach from the tea. Menstrual cramps are lower for me and feel different--almost warmer for lack of another way to describe it. The odd thing for me this time around (because I always end up on my period during these cleanses) is that two days before I started I had small cramps--as if I could feel what was going on in my uterus before the actual cycle began. The cleanse always makes me more attuned to my body, so that might have been the reason. It also came with some lower back tightness, but that has now subsided. It's just been a tough few days for me.
Good luck with the tea and SWF.

Good Morning All...Happy Saturday !!
Day 5 for me, and all is well. Energy is still up and my mind is not wondering from the Cleanse.
Pleased to say I've lost 8 lbs in the first 4 days. Last Cleanse I was losing 1 lb/day for the first couple days, then stalled for a week. Maybe it's because I have committed to being a little more active this time. I also wondered if it was the difference between using AN this Cleanse vs MS during the last Cleanse.
@Connie. I hope you find the answer as to how long you will be doing this Cleanse. I was not sure how long this Cleanse will last, but I knew it would be at least 10 days. Now it looks like 13 days, because that looks like how many days I have enough Lemons for. I will do the longer Cleanse during Lent (March).
During my first Cleanse I also spent many hours online checking out Recipes, thousands of them:eek:.
I did seem a little masochistic, but I think it also helped me to deal with food after the Cleanse.
Enjoy your Day:)

This is my first day. :o I had been drink fresh vegy juice all week in the mornings and having a small plate of vegies and tahini for dinner... in between that i have snacked on pretzels I know this is not "easing in" It is around 3pm here and i have had 2 servings of lemonade - and about to have 2 more as i am hungry. Drinking water has helped and i'm hoping this hunger will lessen as the week goes on. Ten days is my goal then i plan to see how i feel and continue to eat vegetarian. I would like to try an all raw foods meal plan for a while after this fast.:rolleyes:
I will post each day of my ten day fast- or however far i make it...

Beauty,
Welcome to the group. For me day 2 and 3 were the worse. I am on day 8 now and doing good. But since this is my first Cleanse I will stop at 10. You will do fine. Just keep on drinking and using the room as a distraction. Again welcome to the room.:)
A question for the room.
This morning I was thinking about my next cleanse. I was wondering if it is cool to do a series of 10 day cleanses at the beginning of each month as opposed to a big 40 day cleanse. Or should I just go with the original plan of once a quarter. Whatcha think?:rolleyes:

My day 7. Almost one week down. Am in an all-day class today, so am just writing this briefly on my lunch break. As I was falling asleep last night, it hit me that someone had asked about fear of
PAIN
during a cleanse. I tagged that post to answer it, but somehow it disappeared, unanswered, and now I can't find it....or did I DREAM that?
Anyway - whoever asked about that...unless you were a phantom, dream-post....people often talk about aches and pains...nothing more than they might experience off the cleanse. Same with headaches - some headaches in the first few days are pretty predictable, but nothing worse than you'd have off the cleanse, except that you're not supposed to take pain killers for them - so they hang around longer than you're generally used to. The worst pain I ever had on a cleanse was my "1/2" cleanse 4 years ago. My eyes were stinging so bad I couldn't open them outdoors, and could only open them part-way indoors. BUT...that was because I had been misinformed about the cleanse and had not done a SWF in 4 days. I learned the hard way how important the SWF is!!! But even then, my eyes did not hurt as bad as the time I accidentally had mace sprayed in them (long story...)
So...don't be afraid of pain on the cleanse...it's nothing worse than you can experience OFF the cleanse. Best wishes!

Well, half way through Day 6. Since I decided to do a 20 day cleanse I have felt happy and content with my routine. I usually start the cleanse on a Saturday morning to be home for the unavoidable runs to the bathroom - but, this time I started on a Monday morning. Actually, I think that worked out better as I was so busy just getting back to work from the Holidays that I didn't even notice the last 5 days-they flew by!
But .. now it is the weekend and after rushing out the door to my daughter's soccer game this morning she is now sick in bed and I am stuck in the house with her...... I am almost out of lemons but can make it through today. Hitting Whole Foods tonight for supplies. I have lost 10lbs already-so, I will focus on the end goal (20 days, 20 days, 20 days) and and the results already and get through this day......

However, on the second day, I awoke with a headache that lasted until the next morning and faded away.. Thank goodness at work I did not have to interact with very many people that day .... whew. I have also lost 8lbs. :)

Hey everyone! My voice is starting to come back, but I have been down with a healing crisis for over 48 hours now. The sore throat comes and goes, as does my swollen lymph nodes. I now wake up in the morning with a dry cough and my nose running like a sieve! The symptoms seem to settle down after being up a couple hours, but the fatigue, sneezing and congestion are come and go all day. If I didn't feel so normal in between the rough times, I'd be convinced that this was a bacterial or virus thing. First time I've had a full blown healing crisis, but it's probably long overdue. Strange thing is that my attitude has been really good. Maybe because I'm taking care of my hubby, but than again maybe not. Thanks for asking C Mack, he's hanging in there. I have been making him soups for the past few days. Not feeling temped but they do look great. I will catch up with y'all later:p ds

Thank you for answering me Benni
I am not sure either about doing a 10 day cleanse at the beginning of each month as this is my first cleanse. It would be 10 days of cleanse and 20 days of food. As I wrote food I thought of the word RECOVERY. That may just be telling me to string it out a bit. I don't think that 40 days would be favorable for me at this point so I will be looking for words from members on this one.
So for the rest of the world,
Is doing a 10 day cleanse at the beginning of each month too often?
Oh. PS…I am finishing day 8 right now. As before, my skin is getting better, no headaches, small cravings still due to old habits. I still open the fridge when I pass it. For some reason, I gotta look. My tongue is looking better.
I have been drinking the Senna TEA. To me it tastes pretty bad so I had been guzzling it. But today I kinda treated it like coffee. I heated the water really hot and added 1 oz of the syrup and it made it enjoyable. So I sipped it like coffee. Still, it worked like a champ. So does the SWF. Man!!!
Anyway, I am proud to be doing this with you guys. I wish everyone great luck with the Cleanse.

Question for the ladies?....Are the cramps that are experienced whit menstation the same as the cramps experienced with the senna tea...Just curious...
Interesting question. I'd say lax tea cramps are a little more sharp and concentrated, and pms is more dull and all over, often in your lower back as well. And I can't vouch for everyone, but I had 4 babies and my labor pains were a lot like the way you feel when you have montezuma's revenge, only you don't get to go to the potty to make it all better and it just keeps coming back.

Hey folks! Day 8 winding down.... Earlier visit to Whole Foods was a total score! Perhaps it was a blessing that I didn't get in there last night. They had some BEAUTIFUL large lemons AND they were on sale for $2.99 a bag (usually $3.99). Bought enough for 11 more days if all goes smoothly with juice volume - That being said I will continue to aim for 21 days (and meditate a bit more on 28...)
Random symptom report - teeny tiny little rash dots on my face around my mouth today... never did that before! I've had larger blemishes appear around the nose area, but this is different. Joy! A new cleanse experience :rolleyes:
It is so nice to come here and hang out - I really appreciate all of you, newbies and diehards alike. It is great to hear that everyone has similar struggles and that we can all work through them - or if we can't that there is no judgement only support. It really does mean a lot. THANKS!

See you tomorrow!

Connie,
If they are on the edge of your lips it may be the lemons. I had some acidic irritation on the upper lip and at the edge. It happened almost immediately after biting a cut lemon after squeezing it. It that is what is happening to you, you may want to go down to the place you get your lemons and get an all natural chapstick. I used it for one day and they are gone.

As far as frequency, I would worry about nutirtional reserves. To quote Burroughs on frequency, "Follow the diet for a minimum of 10 days or more— up to 40 days and beyond may be safely followed for extremely serious cases. The diet has all the nutrition needed during this time. Three to four times a year will do wonders for keeping the body in a normal healthy condition. The diet may be undertaken more frequently for serious conditions." I think when someone did the math on that, figuring if you did the cleanse for 40 days, 4 times a year (every 90 days), you would want about 50 days in between?
I'd have to say that how you interpret the timing is up to you - but it sounds scary doing it that often. 10 days feels like a long time the first time? At least it was for me. Perhaps if you worked up to the 40? That is kind of my approach, which is why I think I'm wiggin out about jumping all the way to 28 this time - skipping 21 days seems scary! but I'm kind of a regimented kind of gal!
Good luck working it out

Hello all! It's the end of my day 8. I, too have a small rash around my mouth. I'm thinking it's a detox symptom more than from the lemons only because I always drink my lemonade with a straw so the lemon is never in direct contact with my skin.
I'm still feeling great, but a little discouraged when I weighed myself today and I've only lost 2 pounds. You'd think with more than a week without solid food and all the eliminations I've had it would be more than that. I am going to add more water in between my lemonades and hope that it's a lot of water retention.
It was so nice to sleep in today and get some much needed sleep. Calling for snow here tomorrow so maybe we'll get a snow day and I won't have work Monday. :D

Good Morning All...Happy Saturday !!
@Nichelle; Hi back at ya. Happy Cleansing :)
;)
Hey!
So, I'm ending my day with a cup of tea. When I did the cleanse before, this was the part I struggled with the most And it's because I absolutely hate tea. There are very few foods that I really dislike but tea is on the list. So, drinking it every night is a struggle. I've added syrup and will drink it as fast as possible. This time I opted for 'Yogi Get Regular' instead of the Smooth Move from last time. I'm not sure if there is much of a difference between the two, but I think I like it a bit more. Anyway, everything else is fine. There are no problems with drinking the salt water. I don't do well with 'heat' so I take the cayenne pepper, put it on my tongue and chase it with a swallow of the lemonade drink. After that I just enjoy the drink, which I really love.
No hunger pains to speak of today. I live alone so there was nothing to tempt me. I remember going crazy from watching food commercials on the last cleanse. That hasn't happened much this time (whew) It was too darn cold to go outside today (high of 9 degrees) so I stayed home with a lot of time on my hands. Funny, how much extra time there is when you're not busy cooking and eating.
I did an hour of pseudo-cardio though I'm not sure how much it counts. Does anyone own a Kinect system? If you're familiar with the game 'Dance Central' that's what I did. It was an hour of jumping around and fun dancing but it was enough to work up a slight sweat. I'm counting that as my cardio for today! That game is *so* fun. I'll get back to more serious workouts in a few days.
Tomorrow I will be cleaning out my refrigerator of practically everything. There's not much in there but this is a good opportunity to throw away what I don't need and give it a good cleaning. Next weekend I'll do the same to the rest of the kitchen. I haven't weighed myself as I'm not sure I want to know what the scale says :o yep, I fell off the wagon and am chicken. Instead I'm going to focus on my behavior over time and believe the results will come.
I'm feeling very determined these days. Certainly, there will be days when I don't feel the same, but I'll take what I can get for now.
I've rambled enough. Thanks for having a place to share thoughts, random or not. Happy Cleansing to everyone!

Day 6 finished. I'm proud that I've come this far with relative ease. And yet day 7 8 9 And 10 seem daunting. Odd since I've been enjoying it so far.
Perhaps part of it is cuz its the weekend. Girlfriends are getting together tomorrow and I'm sure they'll be food and/or drink involved. The socializing was the kicker last time- I didn't end it during the event, but it had me doubting why I should keep cleansing. I think keeping up with this forum will help me along the path though. Its been great so far. And maybe skipping out on the socializing (unless its a movie or something).
One day at a time.

Day 6 and I'm bored. I don't feel like doing anything, though. I didn't set the alarm and woke up after 5 hours of sleep. After a couple of minutes I decided to just get up and get the SWF done. I've been watching TV and hanging out on the computer since then. I think I'll sit around and read for a bit.
Feeling fine... just having a very lazy Sunday. I need to get motivated to work out and clean out the refrigerator. I'll do it. I will. I will.

I always seem to do really great most of the day, even on the weekends....and then sometime around 5 or 6, I start to feel like "maybe I should just stop...I really want to eat dinner"...and then I dont', and around 9 I feel fine and get through the next day....until 5. Funny, we don't even eat dinner at 5, but I must just be so habit-formed...it's been difficult making meals for the family...they look at me with sad puppy-dog eyes..."oh momma, sorry you can't eat"...but I get through it ok. It's funny, someone else mentioned that it's almost easier being on the cleanse...less to stress about as far as what you are eating! I can feed the family whatever, they just want to eat, but I am so comcerned all the time as to how much protien, how many calories, adding in enough raw vegetables....ahhhh! Juicing a lime and pouring in some agave nectar is much simler! ;)
I was originally going to go for 10 days, but I am going to see how I feel. May go for longer....
Happy cleansig all, and hope your Sunday is lemoniscious!!

Hang in there everyone, things can only get better :)

Hi There Fellow Lemonheads!!
Today is day 5 and all is going along smoothly. I got up early this morning at 6:30 to do the SWF as I was going Sporting Clays shooting at 9. I like to have at least 2 hours of lead time before I go out to make sure all of the SWF has vacated my body!
My tongue turned chalky white the first day, and for me it will stay that way until after I come off the cleanse. Even on my longest cleanse my tongue never went back to pink; some people's will get pink within 10 days, but not mine. That is one of the things you learn from this board that we are all different in how our bodies react; so you can't judge yourself by how others are doing.
Yesterday I spent most of the day watching food shows or reading food blogs, go figure!!!
So far I haven't set a time limit for this cleanse, I haven't got anything planned that will force me to stop, so I will continue past 10 days as I find it beneficial to go longer. I encourage you to do more than 10, your body will love you for it!
Hope everyone has a great day and an even better one tomorrow!!!!.........
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A question for the room. This morning I was thinking about my next cleanse. I was wondering if it is cool to do a series of 10 day cleanses at the beginning of each month as opposed to a big 40 day cleanse. Or should I just go with the original plan of once a quarter. Whatcha think?:rolleyes:
Hi Jonesing,
I don't think it is a good idea! Your body needs adequate time between cleanses to ready itself for the next cleanse. The recommended interval is 3 or 4 times a year. If you feel like cleansing more then I would recommend you extend each cleanse past 10 days. Try 14 days or 18 days or 22 days or whatever. It is more advantageous this way. The cleanse gets easier and easier to do the longer you stay on it and the benefits become greater.
Just my $.02 worth!!!! ;)
I started my pre-cleanse with a 5 day raw food diet. I am now on Day 3 of the Master Cleanse and I feel great. The only side effect I have noticed, or should I say, my brother noticed, is that my breath is very fruity smelling. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this and how long does it last? Thanks!
Just starting day one out of... i don't know, i'm going to take this one 10 days at a time and continue on depending how i feel (Doing at least 20 days minimum tho). This is my second cleanse, my last one was only at the beginning of december, but i didn't even get to experience the infamous tongue coating so i figure i have more detoxing to do. i drank a lax tea last night, and SWF this morning and all was a success! I'm feeling really good about this time around :)
Thanks for the encouragement from everyone... i need it...especially today. I tried the salt water flush...won't be doing that again!! :( can't keep it down -and i tried to continue drinking it after the first time i vomited- i was thinking: if i could just get my stomach to relax and except this salty water...nope- vomited again and this time was worse.
I only drank four glasses of the lemon aide today. i know i need to drink more and definitly will... tomorrow. i drank plenty of water though
My stomach is still upset with me over that salty water...
On a good note: My laxative worked pretty ...um...smoothly;) i used dulcolax - 4 of 'em.
I havent had the urge to cheat althought i've been hungry all day...wait thats not totally true- i have used stevia sweetner twice in peppermint teas.
so far so good i will wait til toorrow to take more laxative since my body seems a little out of sorts after the SWF.
Day 9 - Still going strong. Looking forward to the coming week! Today is/was definitely a detox day for my. My SWF produce some NNAASSSTTYYY eliminations!! And it lasted for a whopping 3 hrs. I got up at 5:00am to specifically do the swf in time to be ready for church. Well lo and behold right before I got in my vehicle to get on the road, Mr. SWF came a-calling....*sigh*. After that, I had a really bad/sour feeling in my insides for the better part of the morning. After flushing with water, I felt better. So, I know that this cleasnse is doing good for my body. The days is winding down, and I'm going to finish it out just taking it easy. Back to working out and back to work tomorrow
I never did have very much trouble with the SWF, i always just think to myself.. i like putting salt on my food, so i kinda try and imagine it in that sense and it helps. drinking delicous salty food, haha. i find it's mostly mind over matter when it comes to getting that stuff down.
End of Day 6. Feeling great! My teas started kicking in the night before last so I am relieved with that. I feel like I'm getting some nasty toxins out! This morning when I woke up was the first day I've felt like my body has physically changed. I just felt lighter on my feet. It was nice. I also had an increase in energy during my work out today which was wonderful.
I've decided to definitely go 14 days. I'm not sure how I'll feel once I get there if I want to take it any further, but I just know I need another week at least. I haven't weighed myself since the first day. I don't want to focus too much on the scale instead of my body. Last time I weighed daily and would feel down if I didn't lose any. It really took away from the importance of the cleanse and made it more of a "get skinny" thing. This is a change for my body, but also for my mind and I need to keep focused on that.
What's the longest you've gone on a cleanse? And was it easier as time went on. I'm in such a routine now that it's almost second nature and I don't want to go back to the days of having to plan, cook, and clean up a meal! Ha!
I've done a 40, and yes it did get easier as time went on. What got harder was dealing with all the external challenges to stay on. Especially when working business where you need to take customers, peers out for lunch, dinner, etc. Sure you can tell them what your doing, but it gets old explaining all the time. Sometimes you can just avoid, but when you get into a long cleanse/fast that opportunity becomes harder. My wife is always supportive but she misses the meals together and enjoys my cooking so that can have an impact. I think if other folks would have less trouble accepting it - it could make it easier for the long fasts. That part does wear on you during long durations and to me becomes more of a challenge than the fast itself. If you don't have those kinds of issues you should be fine. At the end of 40 days I still felt like I could have continued. It was just time to stop. I also did that for other meditative, life issues that it helped me cope with at that time. Kept me focused
Yeah, you don't want to be looking at the scale everyday - the weight loss happens by itself and actually slows down over time. It does continue but not as quickly. You're right not to focus on that. I do this for a reset and to get off the bad habits that build over time and start over/get back on track. After 10 days the consciousness change was significant for me. Enjoyable. I'm amazed how this works in a lot of different ways.
It sure does simplify things. You realize how much time you actually spend thinking, planning, etc around food. I love to cook, and do most all of it. Baking as well. So I do miss that regardless.
Funny though how the smell of food around me while others are eating almost feels like I'm eating too. It's actually enjoyable for me.
You'll be amazed how that changes by the end of the cleanse. Food usually becomes less of a habit and more of a necessity. At least that's how it seems to work for me.
Ditto, hang in there it will subside. You can also do more LA if it persists. Don't have the book right here but pretty sure it says you can do more to a point. I believe 8 would be OK? Don't forget to drink the same amount of water after each serving of the LA as well.
Close to the end of day 6 and things are settling in nicely. The slight chills of the first few days are gone and the "detox headachyness" of nights of day 2,3,4 are gone. Funny how light headaches were all at night this time. Actually pretty "convenient" as I was able to sleep through them. Feeling in the groove now.
Awesome attitude! Wishing you strength for tomorrow and beyond. It does get easier. Forgive me if we've already suggested this (I get confused!) but do take a look at the different threads which offer advice... there is the general help for newbies thread (http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1154)and one on the SWF (http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/showthread.php?t=135). You may pick up some ideas there to make things easier for you - I still learn from them every time I re read!
Also - rather than stevia (which I like and use as well just not on the cleanse) use a touch of maple syrup or agauve nectar - they are "legal"
Watch out for using laxatives? The Senna tea should do the trick (again - I apologize if I missed you mentioning a problem with using it.)
i sleep in until 9, sometimes 10 on weekdays. swf has been fine and productive, but i wonder if I should be trying to wake up earlier to do it?
I'm only slightly joking around when I say that unless you must be up - sleep! Wish I could!
Seriously, If you feel you are giving up too much of the day to waiting around for the SWF to work then by all means get up earlier - you can work on a quiet project you've been trying to make time for! Personally, I use the time to fit in movies I've DVR'd but never have time to watch. Enjoy!
I've done a 40, and yes it did get easier as time went on. What got harder was dealing with all the external challenges to stay on. To you RBenash and all the others that go on with the cleanse beyond the 10, my hat is definitely off to you. It's a very good accomplishment definitely. You're so right about the external challenges that you'd have to face. Hell even with my 10 days I have a few social things that come along which require eating. I usually have to find some way to get out of it only revealing doing the cleanse as a last resort. For me besides that what stops me from continuing is the boredom of the drink and routine. It is mind over matter yes. And it's definitely easier as you go along but I unfortunately love food too much and crave variety. Actually it amazes me I've been with my job (14 years) as long as I have though I currently am struggling with keeping my interest there though the paycheck and the flexibility to work from home helps a lot...:D
MC9 - Day 7
January 9th, 2011, 06:53 PM
It's Day 7.
If I want to be, I am over half done, but I think I'll go to the end of next week. My energy is up and I am losing weight. I was another 2lbs down this morning, for a total of 7 so far. Although I'm working out, I'm not finding it difficult. I did a full 50+ minute T-Tapp Total Workout and I walked (briskly) 5 miles as well.
I drank my lax tea last night, and the SWF went down easy. DH and I went to the movies today, and I did have to get up once to go, well, you know where. But otherwise, I was fine.
I did encounter some food temptations today and it was difficult to resist because I didn't have my lemonade or water with me. I made it okay, and it's going to be an easy evening. I'm about to make more lemonade. I need one more bottle for today and two for tomorrow. I don't want to make too much ahead and let it sits too long, since that negatively affects the effectiveness of the enzymes in the lemon juice and its cleansing effect.
My tongue had one white stripe right down the center this morning, but otherwise it's starting to look clear. Another funny thing is that I seem to be needing my reading glasses less and less; that or my arms are getting longer :-). I have developed a snoring "problem" though, and will try a different pillow tonight to see if that'll keep me from joining the concert between my pups and DH.
So far so good, I feel great, and we'll see what tomorrow brings.
Cheers! ;)
I'm closing on day 8. I hear that after day 8 you only crave raw veggies and fruit. The thought of a unhealthy food still sounds very appealing. Is this normal or is this considered a "detox" symptom still?
Also, as I prepare for the first few days after the cleanse, are you really only supposed to have OJ on day 1 post MC? I was looking forward to making veggie soup for day 1's lunch. Bad idea? What if it is juiced/pureed?
One other question. Leading up to the cleanse I didn't do an Ease In but I did try the SWF 2 times to see what I was in for. The first time did what was expected. However the second time I did it after a morning run and nothing happen..no "release." If I do the SWF after a run, should I double up on the salt or do 2 dose to be effective?
Hi Loopy...my understanding is you're supposed to do the OJ for a day just to give your body time to get used to something else. Introducing food immediately could cause issues, I'm thinking even if pureed that would be the case, though I admit that would be easier to digest than straight veggie soup. For me I save the veggie soup for the 2nd day in the evening though MC7 post cleanse Day 2 I wound up having fried calamari and chicken milanese for a group lunch I couldn't get out of. I just knew my stomach was going to make me pay for it but luckily I was okay. I guess it comes down to an individual choice ultimately but I'd rather not risk it.
As far as craving unhealthy food it is part of detoxing but on some level those cravings for a lot of folks will always be there. I've always reverted back to the occasional steak after all my cleanses even though I know it's not healthy. It takes a lot of will to completely go raw after a cleanse and I don't have it in me to do that.
I've heard of folks adding an extra teaspoon of Sea Salt if they've had difficulty with the SWF but it is interesting that it worked one day but didn't the next because of run. I'd try the regular 2 teaspoons again to see what happens. Just my 2 cents.
Regarding cravings, today I found that I had a slight craving for vegetables and sushi. I'm closing out day 6 and I find it interesting that I almost always crave healthy food during the cleanse.
I did get in some cardio today but not as much as I would have liked. It was close to an hour but was pretty mild activity. Although.... the heart rate was up so I am sure it was worthwhile. I'm determined to keep up the activity level as long as I'm comfortable doing it. I fell off the exercise wagon and need to remin consistent. I want to get back to the days when my body missed it when I *didn't* work out.
I have to be in the office very early tomorrow which means I have to get up extra, extra early for the SWF. So, it will be an early night tonight. I'm finishing another serving of lemonade and will soon follow it with my not-so-favorite tea. :p It's definitely working, though. When I got up this morning, I almost skipped the SWF because the tea was working oh so well. I did it anyway and was done with the process within an hour. Maybe it will work that quickly tomorrow.
Day 7 tomorrow, woo hoo!
Hello all! End of Day 9 here. Feeling great! Attended niece's 2nd birthday today. No temptation with cupcakes and Goldfish, thank goodness! It's good to know I'm almost done if I choose to be. I guess my biggest concern is that I am going to go back to old habits, and because I have this fear I feel like I still need to continue the cleanse until I am more mentally prepared to take on a healthier eating lifestyle.
I don't want to end the cleanse and not feel this great anymore. I have big goals and aspirations for this year and this cleanse is the beginning of them all. I'll go to 14 and see how I feel from there.
It's interesting how many of my fellow cleansers do not confide in others when cleansing. I don't announce it to everyone, but my closest social circle, family and co-workers I see daily (typically have lunch break with) all know of my cleansing. They are all supportive and intrigued. I find it easier just to let it out in the open instead of having people question or assume. But, maybe that's just me.
And to answer a previous question, I live in Middle Tennessee, so it doesn't take much snow to get us out of school (me out of work - yay!). I think it's just that it's such a rarity to get more than a light dusting that everyone panics and schools don't want to take the chance of accidents. We have 10 snow days worked into our school year so I'll take them all! :D
Have a great rest of your "Lazy Sunday"!
I'll do my best to stick with the OJ, but I may do some broth or something for dinner.
I sweat when I run so I'm thinking that the SWF it is just replenishing the salt I lost from the sweat. I'm just wondering if I should do extra SWF or add more salt to have that release or is that overkill?
Okay so my little hour of cardio seems even smaller now... :D
Welcome to the forum! I did my first MC in late 2006 and am only now doing my second one. Although I had an overall good experience, I ended the first cleanse at 22 days due to some physical issues. 22 days on your first try is rockstar IMO. I was counting the days on my first one. I stretched it a bit on the second one. I'm going to let my body tell me when to stop this time. Could be 10, 15, 20...don't really see the point in going much longer than that though.
I've read many cases on here where telling someone backfired and folks would question that person's motives and do demoralizing things to discourage folks from continuing. And the folks doing this are those that are supposed to be closest to them like spouses and siblings for example.
In my case I told my best friend when I did my first one and he thought I lost it and was doing all he could to stop me cause it wasn't healthy. He even ordered a pizza for me to tempt me though luckily it was Dominoes pizza so aside from the smell, it wasn't my favorite. Once I survived the first one and did another he wasn't as adamant against it but I still don't tell him when I do it. It helps too that we're in different states.
But having the support is good. :D
Just a few more hours till I can call Day 7 a wrap. Woo hoo!!!
Wonderful to see so much activity on the Boards on a Sunday.
For the first time I have had the sniffles. I have heard of nasal drainage on the Cleanse, but this is the closest I gonna get, since it subsided after a few hours.
Like Nichelle I have been craving Sushi all day. Strange, because I have not had Sushi in years.
Veganhogg; I certainly would not describe my breath as fruity, for me it's more like Dragon breath, and it lasts the duration of my Cleanses. It is an indication of Fats being utilized for energy called Ketosis. There is also a Diabetic Keto-acidosis which gives a fruity breath.
Looking forward to day 7 :rolleyes:
Well now, I guess it is day 9. Tomorrow is the last day for me since this is my first Cleanse. Today was a tough day for me. I didn't get to do the flush due to Girl Scout cookie selling day. I can just imagine saying,"would you like to by my daughter's girl scout cookies while I use your bathroom?"
So as a result, I did not get my normal flow of lemonade.
My symptoms were;
Headache
Anxiety regarding food
Impatience
Gurgling belly
Weakness and fatigue
Still, I didn't crack and I even had to cook breakfast for my daughter. THEN, I had to take her and mom to McDonald's for a wrap. Thank goodness I never liked their wraps.
I am feeling a bit of impatience about tomorrow. I would like it to be over so I can start eating again. I attribute this to missing out on the flush and the LA.
I wonder if tomorrow will be a long day like today.
Best wishes to everyone. Be strong.
Today was a tough day for me. I didn't get to do the flush due to Girl Scout cookie selling day. I can just imagine saying,"would you like to by my daughter's girl scout cookies while I use your bathroom?"
Yeah - I find the SWF to be really tedious after the first 10 days and occasionally I've skipped it - it almost always results in a moody day. But sometimes your life just can't deal with the time to clear.
It's probably the main thing, rather than hunger or craving, that makes me quit when I do. I just get sick of the SWF, and the not being able to workout yet cause I don't know if the SWF is done yet, etc. Days like today don't help either - when the SWF is not a flush, its a trickle and it takes 2 hours till you think it's done but it didn't really all come out.
But hey - I was out in the car with my husband and the oldest of my kids today - and the buggars decided to hit a drive through! How insensitive! Fortunately, it didn't make me crave the McDonalds french fries (and I do love McD's fries), and the smell of the fries masked the overwhelming smell of the husband (stench of rotting death) and teenager breathe in the car.
Good night everyone!
It's very possible that you're retaining water because of your period. I know that I usually retain water around my period no matter how much water I drink. See how it goes after your period starts.
I've seen blackstrap molasses used and agave nectar but never sugarcane. The only options you're given according to the rules are the molasses (if you're diabetic) or the maple syrup. You have a lot of your vitamins and minerals in the maple syrup and it burns slower in the body hence helping your energy levels stay high.
Ideally you should be getting 60 more ounces of water on top of the 6-12 glasses of juice. I've certainly had more water than that during the cleanse. Yes, I do believe it helps the body eliminate fats faster. It's also a nice change from just drinking the lemonade/limeade. I don't know much about cane sugar so I always just follow the maple syrup when I do the cleanse.
Hello...I am on day 7 and also started my period on Day 4...I did notice that I got a little shaky on my first day of my period but just double my lemonade to 20 oz with the same amounts of maple syrup and cayenned and that helped.
I just want to say that I love this cleanse. My tongue is now starting to clear up..I just noticed this today. I could not believe it. I was beginning to get a little discouraged and my "elimination" has tappered off since yesterday. Can't wait to do this again.
Thanks all for the feedback
Omgosh I have this sudden craving for lentils mixed with corn bread. That was a dish my Mom used to cook growing up. I love lentils in general. I so can't wait to cook some again. Maybe I shouldn't talk about that now...*LOL*.
Anyway lax tea is warming up. I've had to use 2 bags of Smooth Move like suggested a few days to get the same affect. Next cleanse I will look into using senna or the Yogi Get Regular.
Seven Whole Days done....looking forward to Day 8. Nite all.
DAY 10
Hi everyone
I am new to the board but not to master cleanse.. Not sure how many I have done but the longest I ever did was 21 days in June 2010
I started this cleanse New Year's day and went until the 4th day when I needed to go to an emergency dinner with friends. It was a gathering of university buddies in support of one of our own whose wife is terminally ill. She weights less then 70 pounds and I didn't feel right having the dinner be hijacked by talk of my fast so I ate. :o Felt quite sick that night including loose bowels but jumped back on the cleanse the next day..
and am still at it..:D
The fast has been quite easy this time except today I am feeling a knot in my stomach... I think that means I'm hungry so I added the full two tablespoons to my drinks.. Normally I do 1.5..as I find it really sweet..
I also never do the SWF as I have a compromised colon and wouldn't want to stress it.. The lax teas are plenty for me to handle.
BTW in case anyone cares I make the drinks fresh each time.. That way I can change it up if I want.. A little more MS, a little more cayenne, hot some times and cold others...And when I need to go out I usually carry a mixture that I can just add water to with me.
Glad to find this board..
MC9 - End of Day 7
End of day 7 for me, and it seems that the tea is not that strong to me as well! I dont' know if I can handle 2 tea bags...the first time I did the cleanse, I really enjoyed the tea at the end of the day. I get the chocolate Smooth Move, and the first time around, it was like drinking a nice loaf of bread ;) AND it would wake me up around 3 am for a jump start on the morning :) This time, I feel like I have to gag it down! I have to guzzle it! And, it isn't doing the job during the morning or middle of the night like the first time around...The SWF is easier! Oh well, if I can not eat, I can guzzle that down...
Question: I tend to roll my last lemonade into the 9 o'clock hour, then drink the tea after that. Is there a certain time limit afer the last lemonade before the lax tea? I don't necessarily feel like I am craving the tea, just don't want to not get enough calories in. It's my 6th one of the day...any thoughts?
Goodnight everyone!
@HeatherPickle; I don't recall an indicated wait time between taking your Lax Tea and LA. Personally, I like to wait at least an hour between my Tea and LA, both AM & PM.
Good morning, everyone!
I meant to come here yesterday when I officially started day 1 but ended up having a whirlwind morning and day. Luckily, I'm used to doing this cleanse so all the unexpected events did not hinder my LA routine. (nor did me being on day 1 affect my ability to roll with it all. Yay) I've noticed on my last few cleanses that my body embraces it immediately which is really nice. The first day or two of my first few cleanses used to be somewhat trying compared to now.
I feel good this morning, up early and already drank my salt water so that I can be done with it before the day's activities really kick in. I had accidentally eaten something right before the holidays that had pasta in it, invisibly mixed in rice, so I was quite shredded inside and have been looking forward to this cleanse to heal from that. A friend was supposed to do this with me but backed out the night before. It would have been my first cleanse having a live and nearby cleansing buddy. If I had known she would back out, I'd have started sooner but she picked this date and I waited for her. :rolleyes:
Heather, I prefer the taste of the regular smooth move. Have you tried both? Also, sometimes I think one batch/box is stronger than another something like how there are always natural variations in the potency of plants, fruits, etc from season to season, area to area, etc. if i have a box of tea I feel is a bit weak, I try steeping it for longer and if that doesn't work, I will go for two bags.
Day: 29
Starting weight: 82kg
Current weight: 71kg
weight loss around 24 lb
Going ok,
Skins good, tongue seems to be getting pinker, less grey covering (i use a scraper around twice a day and brush).
Not sure if i retain the swf but dont seem to get a real bm 'whoosh' until after my first litre of lemonade around 2 hours later.
Cloths fit a lot better and I feel lighter, never been this weight for over 10 years. I need to build up the arm and chest muslces a bit though - looking a bit weedy!
A friend made some hand made apricot crumble yesterday, felt a bit rude not eating any, I now crave some apricot crumble. The scent was delicious.
Good morning to all my fellow lemonheads, and good morning to DAY 10!! I am doing better today than i was yesterday on Day 9. I was able to do a longer workout this morning, and it felt great. I have lost a total of 7 pounds, and for that I am thankful. 4 more days and I get to decide if I want to go longer or stop at 14.
On top of day 8, can hardly believe it. I'm ready for some real meals, I also miss the social aspect of it.
Do you think prisoners of war fantasize about food and meals like I have been?
My breath has remained un-stinky, which totally surprises me; I would have guessed otherwise, but yay for me. My tongue however did turn a light pale green. At first I thought it was from drinking the tea, but, no, sadly, I think it is from within.
I have never experienced clarity of mind or unusual energy. So boo for me.
Meedis and Heather-- My fiance gets 0 results from smooth move. (also rarely gets results from the swf!), but what works for him very well every time is the Senna Tea. This stuff is so strong, I get pretty bad cramps and always a middle of the night elimination from it.
Sad news-- my fiance, after seeing so few results (he's hardly lost any weight, and I've noticeably lost a good amount), has decided to quit the cleanse. He made it 5 days, and is starting the OJ at some point today. He's still going to come out of it correctly, but found himself "bored" throughout, and didn't see enough results to keep him going. What's weird is that he hardly showed any symptoms. He was cold, and had one craving that I know of, but that was about it. His tongue is already back to normal, as well. This was his first cleanse, but who knows, maybe he's not so toxic, because his body always took care of everything.
I'm sad he's leaving early, but this won't deter me from going strong! I'm on day 6 now, and feel pretty good. Like I said, I've lost a significant amount of weight (I don't use a scale, but look pretty amazing in all my clothes now ;) ) I am going until day 10, and then OJ day is unfortunately going to be on a roadtrip. I may take some LA with me, because I tend to get quite hungry on OJ days.
Have a great new week of cleansing all!
Poor sleep quality last night - no worries thoough as I'm sure tonight will be better - I actually think I have ny blanket too hot:rolleyes:
Thank God I am back at work. Never thought I'd say that on purpose! So much easier to fill the day and not think about food when I'm here. Glad I spent the weekend researching healthy recipes and better choices - but glad to be away from it as well!
Glad to see some new folks joining us as so many are finishing up 10 days already! Way to go to all!
Speaking of work - better go do some! Check you later!
My husband and I are on Day 8. This cleanse has been harder for me than the previous two. First, I've never done a cleanse in the winter. So, I am really cold. Plus, I have found myself getting tired of the lemonaide... and the Salt water flush is terrible.. And.. I want to eat real food. After 5 days.. I lost 5 lbs.. but, I don't really need to loose much weight. It has helped to have my husband do it along with me this time.. or I might have quit.
Must it go 10 days?? What if I stop after 9 days? :confused:
I did a MC in July of 2008 (10 days) Lost 9 pounds
My husband and I did a MC in June of 2010 (10 days) I lost 8 pounds; My husband lost 13 pounds
Italichic, sorry to hear that your husband quit the cleanse but it is good that you're continuing on. From all our messages on here we have varying experiences from the cleanse and it works better for some than others.
Heatherpickle, I usually have the LAX tea between 30 minutes to an hour after my last drink of the day.
Oh well...time for me to get into the work mindset. Happy Cleansing Everyone!
MC 1- Day 5
I have to say that the mastercleanse has been a very enlightening experience thus far. I have a clear mind, body, and soul. It is now 7:48am on my 5th day and it's the first time I've felt fatigue, but sill none the less I love his cleanse. I've had so much energy up until this point, I have faith that by mid day it will kick back in. I'll probably won't exercise unti Thurs. and see how I feel after a little Yoga. Shooting for 20 days this time around, so I'll keep you posted on how it's going. Any suggestions on how to boost energy?:o
Day 11
Dropping almost a pound a day..
Down to 186 from 192 but I didn't weigh myself until the 5th day. Silly I know...but the holidays put me over the top and I didn't need to see it.
As I always seem to add back a good 5 pounds as soon as I go off the cleanse I am hoping to hit 175 before coming off.
question
last time I went 21 days and my tongue was still not back to pin.. How long can one safely go to ensure the detox is complete?
I really don't like board commercials……
Well hello day 10. Still I haven't slipped. Whew, I wonder if I will make it through today. I have to.
Because of yesterday's lack of full LA I woke feeling weak, shaky and dragged down. But I pulled myself together and mowed the driveway and the sidewalk (Snowblower action). It was tedious and trying but I feel better now for it. I have just drank the SWF and waiting on the lovely aftermath. There is all kinds of gurgling going on so maybe I will get out what was bugging me yesterday. I actually feel better now that I have ingested the SW.
So, Tomorrow I will come off the cleanse.
If the roads get better I will go down and get some good stuff for tomorrow. Got any suggestions?
Winding down…..for now.
Any one else having bad sleep?
On my third day I slept for 9.5 hours (usually get 6-7) of deep sleep. Can't remember the last time that happened. Aside from that, I keep waking up in the middle of the night. I feel cold. We're at freezing temperatures here but I have the heat cranked so I'm not sure that's the cause. I don't feel tired during the day but still wish I could get better sleep. I remember this being an issue in previous cleanses. Anybody else?
Most of what I have seen in here after 21 days is people going for 40. I don't think I would go any further than that. But I am no expert. Go on You Tube and look for the lady who did the cleanse for 87 days. I think it will give you and idea of how far it can go but the results are troubling. Just keep a level head about yourself and things will be fine.
Today is my day 9. I've had really fantastic results with weight lost. I'm afraid to say how much since I don't want to jinx it. Really busy week-end, so didn't have much time to post. I have got pimples all over my nose. The big kind that get yellow pus. Weird. Hopefully, they'll go away really soon; the rest of my face is clear.
:mad::mad:Is there any way, under the canopy of heaven, to prevent these SPAMMERS from freely logging on and bombarding us with this nonsense!!!! :mad::mad::mad: Usually the moderators take care of this - that's why there's a built in delay in posting for the "newbies" - to give the moderators time to weed that stuff out. I haven't seen a moderator since Jan 1st - so they all must be busy or something.
Any suggestions on how to boost energy?:o The only thing that helps me is exercising and NOT trying to push too hard. If I do some exercise (usu. cardio, spinning, or yoga) thinking, "I'm going to take it easy on myself today" then halfway or 3/4 of the way through, I suddenly get this huge burst of energy that stays with me for several hours later.
Must it go 10 days?? What if I stop after 9 days? :confused: Yes, Burroughs says the minimum is 10 days. I have a friend who has never gone 10 days, but she is already very healthy and slender - she quits early because she loses too MUCH weight and gets worried that she is too skinny. LOL, wish I were in her shoes!
I am going until day 10, and then OJ day is unfortunately going to be on a roadtrip. I may take some LA with me, because I tend to get quite hungry on OJ days. I did a road trip once on OJ day and wanted to tell you (warn you) that I had a lot of trouble with gas. I usually don't have any problems on OJ day, but just sitting without really moving for 6 hours made the gas build up to the point where it was genuinely painful and I was having abdominal cramps. I searched around for a restaurant selling homemade soup and got some veggie soup to go. That fixed the cramps. My suggestion is to make frequent stops, and get out and walk around. Or maybe just not drink much OJ on the trip itself, but drink it before and after? Best of luck; I hope you can avoid the discomfort I experienced. :o
My tongue however did turn a light pale green. At first I thought it was from drinking the tea, but, no, sadly, I think it is from within. I have never experienced clarity of mind or unusual energy. So boo for me. Maybe your mind is already very clear...:D Isn't it amazing the symptoms we have during the cleanse - pale green tongue! weird! - just goes to show that the cleanse really does bring out the toxins!
Today is my first day I will go for 10 days so wish me luck Good luck! and welcome.
DAY 10...Hi everyone...I am new to the board but not to master cleanse.. Not sure how many I have done but the longest I ever did was 21 days in June 2010...
I also never do the SWF as I have a compromised colon and wouldn't want to stress it.. The lax teas are plenty for me to handle. Welcome to the BB! Could you tell me more about your "compromised colon" ? I have leaky gut syndrome which doesn't seem to be healing very much at all. I'd really like to hear anything your doctor has told you to do, or any experiences and impressions you have about what helps it and what hurts it. The SWF doesn't seem to bother me at all...
Question: I tend to roll my last lemonade into the 9 o'clock hour, then drink the tea after that. Is there a certain time limit afer the last lemonade before the lax tea? I don't necessarily feel like I am craving the tea, just don't want to not get enough calories in. It's my 6th one of the day...any thoughts? I tell myself not to drink a lemonade later than 2 hours before I go to bed. I want to give my body enough time to process it before I drink the tea. I'm concerned that the tea would start working on eliminating the lemonade before it had finished doing it's work. I drink my tea right before I go to sleep so that it will not wake me up too early in the morning.
Day: 29 weight loss around 24 lb
A friend made some hand made apricot crumble yesterday, felt a bit rude not eating any, I now crave some apricot crumble. The scent was delicious.
Great job on sticking to the cleanse for so long - congratulations on your results! When friends who don't know I'm on the cleanse offer me something delicious and homemade, I have found that I can avoid hurting their feelings (and giving myself cravings) by saying how wonderful it looks and smells but...(either) I'm so full, I can't eat it right now....(or) my stomach is a little upset right now...(AND) do you mind if I take it home with me? Then I take it home, put it in a tupperware and freeze it until well after the cleanse. I know it will be there waiting for me. The next day I tell them how delicious it was (even though I haven't eaten it yet). Then when I really do eat it, I tell them that I was just remembering how great their ...apricot crumble, or whatever...was and how much I enjoyed it. It's a win, win situation. They think that I loved it so much, I'm still thinking about it weeks later...and they feel appreciated. I get the best of both worlds - literally "having" my cake and eating it, too! Thank God for Tupperware! :D
I don't want to end the cleanse and not feel this great anymore. I have big goals and aspirations for this year and this cleanse is the beginning of them all. I'll go to 14 and see how I feel from there. Glad you're sticking around!
Hola fellow MCers. New to the forum. Just found it now and thought I'd join. Welcome to the BB! Congrats on your success with the cleanse! I, too, am a lifetime believer!
I sweat when I run so I'm thinking that the SWF it is just replenishing the salt I lost from the sweat. I'm just wondering if I should do extra SWF or add more salt to have that release or is that overkill? It's my understanding that you don't absorb ANY of the salt from the SWF, unless the ratio is wrong. That it is the specific salt water ratio that makes the SWF pass through your colon as butt pee, rather than separating and the water coming out as urine. I don't think either Glickman or Burroughs addresses salt levels in the body during a cleanse...I do know that sometimes I make myself Master Cleanse Margaritas (lime juice and agave nectar with crushed ice, and put sea salt around the rim of the glass)....so I take in a little extra salt that way and it's never hurt me...
I have developed a snoring "problem" though, and will try a different pillow tonight to see if that'll keep me from joining the concert between my pups and DH. I have found just the opposite - I stop snoring when on the cleanse. My ex-husband used to snore only when he had been eating poorly or drinking alcohol. So I am convinced that snoring is a negative symptom from a bad diet. Maybe you're snoring because of the toxins you're releasing?
I'm closing on day 8. I hear that after day 8 you only crave raw veggies and fruit. The thought of a unhealthy food still sounds very appealing. Is this normal or is this considered a "detox" symptom still?
Also, as I prepare for the first few days after the cleanse, are you really only supposed to have OJ on day 1 post MC? I was looking forward to making veggie soup for day 1's lunch. Bad idea? What if it is juiced/pureed?
One other question. Leading up to the cleanse I didn't do an Ease In but I did try the SWF 2 times to see what I was in for. The first time did what was expected. However the second time I did it after a morning run and nothing happen..no "release." If I do the SWF after a run, should I double up on the salt or do 2 dose to be effective? You might crave more than just raw veggies and fruit...but generally you want only healthful food. If you're craving junk, yes, it's still a detox symptom. Also wanting food changes from "cravings" or "yearnings" to more of just wanting to eat - the intensity and desperation of a craving is gone.
Yes, you're supposed to have just OJ. I have tried to speed up the transition period on purpose, and by accident (see the road trip post, above) by having soup on the second half of OJ day. I didn't get cramps or anything. BUT...I have found that I stick to a better diet and maintain my weight loss better the SLOWER I come off the cleanse. Somehow, moving to soup and solid foods too soon seems to make me lose the right mindset to keep on top of my diet.
I frequently go to spin class for an hour in between waking up and doing the SWF and have seen no decrease in the SWF due to exercising. My guess would be that it is not the exercise that made the difference between those 2 days. The SWF has to be the right ratio of salt and water for YOUR body. I find if I put in too little salt, then my body separates it into salt and water. I urinate the water out, and retain the salt ...and therefore more water weight all day. I have to make mine with well rounded tsps. , not flat to make sure it works. If you put in a little more salt the first time, and a little less salt the second time, that could account for the problem.
Is doing a 10 day cleanse at the beginning of each month too often? If you look at my cleansing history, at the bottom of my posts, you'll see that I did exactly that in my first year of cleansing. Bottom line: I don't recommend it. I reasoned that if you can do one 40 day cleanse per season (or 40 out of 91 days) why can't you do 10 days per month (which would be 30 out of the same 91 days)?? Well, I had no health problems at all. BUT I did have these negative effects: 1) each successive cleanse I found it harder and harder to motivate myself - I found myself postponing the cleanses and/or dropping out on days 3 or 4, and then having to start over. 2) My weight loss decreased with each cleanse. 3) I found myself yo-yoing in my eating habits - being super-good on the cleanse itself, but doing more and more binging in between cleanses. Eventually I burned out on the cleanse and had to take a break. Now I have found that Burroughs original recommendation to cleanse once per season really seems to work the best for me. Occasionally, in between cleanses, I will feel that I am going off-track and will do a short cleanse. But I do this when I feel the strong urge to cleanse, not on a set schedule. The once per month approach definitely backfired on me.
Interesting question. I'd say lax tea cramps are a little more sharp and concentrated, and pms is more dull and all over, often in your lower back as well. And I can't vouch for everyone, but I had 4 babies and my labor pains were a lot like the way you feel when you have montezuma's revenge, only you don't get to go to the potty to make it all better and it just keeps coming back. My labor cramps were nothing like the cramps from senna tea, although I'd agree that the tea cramps are sharper. For me the tea cramps feel like there's something "wrong." Labor (or period cramps) may be unpleasant, but they feel "normal" to me.
Day 2 of my 6th cleanse, which is frustrating because the last 5 I've always done beginning Jan 1...which would make today my LAST day! Oh well, I started late because of a vacation to Jamaica so I can't complain Too much. :rolleyes:
I don't post much but this board is so helpful...just to know that I'm not the only one out there cleansing...so thanks a lot, everyone! Welcome! Yes, you are not alone - we're all with you in spirit...or in cyberspace...or both. :)
Thanks for the encouragement from everyone... i need it...especially today. I tried the salt water flush...won't be doing that again!! :( can't keep it down -and i tried to continue drinking it after the first time i vomited- i was thinking: if i could just get my stomach to relax and except this salty water...nope- vomited again and this time was worse. Most times that people say they vomited the SWF, it turns out they used 2 TABLESPOONS by mistake. It's an easy mistake to make, since we use TBSP. for the juice and the MS. Please be sure you use TEASPOONS when you make the SWF. I also have found that the type of sea salt you use makes a big difference. I love Balinese Sea Salt (in the bulk section of Whole Foods) - it's so mild that I barely notice the water is salty. Please try the SWF again, it's a VERY important part of the cleanse and more effective than the tea!
Day 9 - Still going strong. Looking forward to the coming week! Today is/was definitely a detox day for my. My SWF produce some NNAASSSTTYYY eliminations!! And it lasted for a whopping 3 hrs. Isn't it amazing how many toxins we can eliminate even so late into the cleanse? Hooray for you getting yourself so well cleaned out!!
Whew! What a lot of posts!!!
One last thing....
someone had mentioned that only maple syrup and molasses are allowed on the MC...
that's not quite accurate.
Here is what Burroughs says, page 18:
"An ideal formula involves freshly extracted juice from the sugar cane (readily available in India, but not generally in the United States at the present time): 10 oz. fresh sugar cane juice (medium hot or cold), 2 tbsp. fresh lime or lemon juice, 1/10 tsp cayenne (red pepper) or to taste. Another possible but lesser replacement could be pure sorghum. It does not produce equal or close to the benefits of maple syrup."
Sorghum is one type of molasses. However, much of our molasses in the U.S. is made from processing beet sugar or cane sugar. Burroughs was very against using processed foods.
Burroughs never mentions agave. But agave has only very recently been packaged for sale (in the last 10 years, maybe?) so it wasn't even around when "The Master Cleanser" was written. I don't even think it was around when Stanley Burroughs was still alive. But the general conclusion here is that agave is ok because it is unprocessed (or, I should say, it CAN be unprocessed - they do have different brands, so you have to look for the raw agave) AND it has many nutrients, on par with maple syrup.
We are basically supposed to use syrup direct from the plant. Agave falls into that category along with maple syrup, sugar cane juice, and sorghum SYRUP. The difference between sorghum syrup and sorghum molasses is the amount of processing.
The only place I have seen sugar cane juice for sale in the U.S. is in Trader Joe's - it is not pure sugar cane juice, but a blend of organic cane juice, maple syrup, and agave. So that blend is ok to use on the cleanse. I have not seen sorghum syrup for sale around here, only on-line ordered from Amish country. (How do they get the orders? Must be someone who lives near the Amish and does their selling for them). I used to think that Burroughs meant sorghum molasses until I started researching just what sorghum was.
I like to mix it up - some days pure agave, some days pure maple syrup, some days the cane juice blend from Trader Joe's. It keeps things from getting too boring. :D
The weatherman was on my side this weekend as we got about 5 inches of snow last night. School has been cancelled for today and tomorrow. It's a bizarre experience. I enjoy working because it keeps my mind off food and I am constantly busy. I'm stuck in the house today. Bor-ing! Luckily I had a hunch this would happen and made a list of things to be done around the house. And I have 19 report cards that need filling out!
Today is Day 10. I still feel great and each day I feel like my body is changing. I just feel so light on my feet and I even feel like my workouts have been more effective.
I'm attending a bridal show this Sunday, but I'm not ready to be off the cleanse. Fortunately, I am taking my fiance's sister (bridesmaid) with me to get some ideas. I will take her opinion on cake and catering samples as she knows about the cleanse.
Does anyone else get anxious or nervous about eating again? I have concerns that I will just undo everything I have worked so hard to achieve.
Does anyone else get anxious or nervous about eating again? I have concerns that I will just undo everything I have worked so hard to achieve.
Absolutely - this is often a topic of conversation here! It is so easy when on the cleanse - follow it and you can't go wrong. But out there in the real world we have to make choices - what if we make the wrong ones?! What if we get off track? What if we only think we are making the best choices - how can anyone be an expert on nutritional balance?! Then I say to myself I'm being silly - that most any changes I make will be an improvement. But as time marches on and I get better, I keep wanting to improve and there is pressure (that I place on myself) to "get it right". Then I worry that if I am cleansing TOO much, that perhaps that is some form of eating disorder - the search for control and such.... I had a conversation with the woman that is running a scrapbooking retreat I'm going on the beginning of February. They cook all three meals for us and I and one of the other girls have "requirements". We talked about making healthy choices and aiming for more of the plate being vegetables/fruits, natural items, less processed, etc. Plus the other girls is gluten/dairy free. Then I explained to her that despite all of that if she was making Ho Ho cake (choclate and whipped creamy goodness/badness) that regardless of the rest of the meals I WOULD be eating it! :rolleyes: I guess as long as the occasional splurge is still allowed I'm on the right track! It is all about balance - and being comfortable with what you put in your body.
Good Day Fellow Lemonheads!!!
This is day 6 for me and all is going along smoothly! I am one of the lucky ones that rarely has a bad day, and I find the more cleanses you do the easier it gets each time. I must get out and do some bicycling a little later.
Hope everyone has a great day!!!
Today is my first day I will go for 10 days so wish me luck
Hi illusinon,
Welcome to day 1, it's a great first step! You can do it so best of luck!!!
Any suggestions on how to boost energy?:o
Hi pinkstar,
For me it is important to get several lemonades in quickly after the affects of the SWF have subsided; it's like having a good breakfast to get you energy up to start the day off. If you don't drink enough lemonade your energy will fall off; remember 6 glasses if the minimum you must drink and up to 12, so if you need more energy drink more lemonade.
How long can one safely go to ensure the detox is complete?
Hi ttoya,
Burroughs states that you can safely go up to 40 days and in extreme cases longer. Listen to your body and it will let you know when you have gone far enough. The longest I have gone is 35 days; I was going for a pink tongue, which never happened, but I stopped then as I was losing too much weight and was looking gaunt
If the roads get better I will go down and get some good stuff for tomorrow. Got any suggestions?
Hi Jonesing,
It is VERY IMPORTANT to come off the cleanse on a 3 day schedule, please make sure you read up on how to do it. For example on the first day all that you can have is FRESH squeezed orange juice and/or grapefruit juice. So the suggestions are fresh oranges and for the second lots of fresh veggies to my your broth. If you are on the cleanse longer than 10 days then you must extend the coming off time longer before you can start eating solid foods.
Thanks, Connie! I can definitely see how it could quickly spiral out of control with the need to control every calorie that goes into the body. I guess I get anxious for several reasons. One, of course being weight gain but also knowing how if I fall off the wagon and eat junk my body will not feel nearly as good as it does now. I'm just not ready to go back into regular eating and face the challenge of making good food choices. I still need to get a little more confidence and mental clarity.
Day 8 here. Finally have gotten rid of the body aches and the kidney aches. Wow those were awful. I don't remember the detox symptoms being so intense on my first MC. Although, I was eating a much cleaner, mostly raw diet then. The past 6 months I've been way off track and boy can I tell with my detox symptoms. Today is also the first day that I've really been craving food. But at least this time around I'm craving a bowl of steamed veggies or a kale salad...nothing bad for me (as opposed to the last cleanse). I guess what I've learned is that no 2 cleanses are alike! (This is only my 2nd.) I will say that I'm definitely ready for Wednesday (day 10) to get here so I can transition back to food and start back up on my high raw/all vegan diet. This has been the "reset button" I needed to get me back there. I know if I can have the discipline to do this for 10 days then I have the discipline to avoid those bad for me foods that somehow weaseled their way back into my life! My priorities are back in order! Thanks MC! :)
Day three coming to an end (thankfully). Wasn't too hungry today only one hunger melt down around noon- but i made it thru:) I'm feeling better today i was dehydrated from the salt water flush that cleared my stomack but not my butt8)
I need to drink more LA. I like the LA - just not drinking enough. I really enjoy the spicy cayenne taste.
I will do smooth move tonight as someone suggested. I am not new to smooth move. It gives me cramps:confused: but not enough to deter me from drinking it.
I'm still on the stevia...just not ready to let it go:(
All in all today was fine. Nothing special- i'll drink more lemon aide tomorrow. I'm drinking plenty of water.
good night all.
Evening lemonheads!
Quick question for the salt connoisseurs... I always use the Celtic Grey Sea Salt by Victoria Taylor's Seasonings. Whole Foods was out. Checked the bulk section for the Balinese salt that was recommended - my store does not stock it....
That being said - I purchased Victoria's ANGLESEY sea salt, labeled as from "Wales, Great Britain" and "Finishing salt". Any experience with this one before I crack the seal? It is cvery white and much prettier, flakier than the grey. I could try the other WF in my area to see if they are still stocked if anyone has a bad report. I could also give it a try and be the guinea pig for the rest of my community if necessary! :rolleyes: Will do a quick search in the forums to see if that type pops up.
Lesson learned: purchase sufficient salt in December next year before the January cleanse! We Lemonheads must significantly impact the market! LOL
Let me know! Thanks in advance.
How do you go for so long? The 35-40 days?
I take one day at a time...no pre judgement because each and every MC is so different.
The early days are the most challenging for me because I release toxins so fast, after the first few days my hunger shuts down and I have fantastic energy and clear headedness. This is when I do my best writings so its good for business.
I have to have the B grade Maple Syrup as well because it seems to have more vitamins, density and flavor than the others ( I tried a couple of cheaper. lighter, probably A grade, definitely not organic ones but find I cant go the distance on them).:D
Welcome to the BB! Congrats on your success with the cleanse! I, too, am a lifetime believer.
Thanks!
If I do some exercise (usu. cardio, spinning, or yoga) thinking, "I'm going to take it easy on myself today" then halfway or 3/4 of the way through, I suddenly get this huge burst of energy that stays with me for several hours later.
This is the first time I've managed to exercise during the cleanse and found the same thing. The first time I went for a run and had a bit of a rough time the first 30mins but the second 30mins were great. The second time, I was literally euphoric. I can't recall the last time I worked out and felt that way. I ran for an hour and felt I could have gone another two at much higher intensity. Do you know why this is? I'd love to be able to keep this up after the cleanse...
Good Morning Everyone
Welcome to the BB! Could you tell me more about your "compromised colon" ? I have leaky gut syndrome which doesn't seem to be healing very much at all. I'd really like to hear anything your doctor has told you to do, or any experiences and impressions you have about what helps it and what hurts it. The SWF doesn't seem to bother me at all...
@ Lahontani
Truth is I have NO colon as it was removed years ago due to a serious case of colitis.. I have an internal pouch constructed from upper GI and the transit time from mouth to rectum can be as little as 1 hour..Too much information for a BB?.. so SWF is just not something I am comfortable trying.I fear it would be too drastic for me
Leaky gut?
The problem I have had with regular doctors and even some gastrointestinal specialists is that they don't seem to relate food as having any effect on the workings of the digestive tract.. they put me on heavy meds like prednisone and told me that they should make me feel better. I gained 60 pounds and never went into remission.
You are what you eat..
So I systematically tested different foods to see what would help.. At first I realized that acidic foods and heavy spice were irritating. I turned macrobiotic eating only brown rice and plain cooked foods that wouldn't hurt the ulcerations...roughage was also tough on my system..
All this helped but the disease took its toll and after 12 years of dealing with it holistically I underwent life saving surgery. Now I eat whatever I want and just know that too much roughage too many days in a row will have an effect..
Sorry about all the talk of food as we are all fasting..but hey.. I am really looking forward to my first glass of wine
What an uneventful day...LOL! Those are the best kinds. No detox symptoms, no cramps, no headaches. Oddly enough, I started feeling hunger pangs around 4:00pm...but I don't think I was hungry. I came here to post about my sleep issues last night and found that I was not alone! My fellow cleansers - this shall be my first group therapy.
I'm wrapping up day 7. I had a very early day today so I drank my tea and went to bed fairly early last night. Instead of sleeping peacefully, I had cramps all night that kept me awake until the wee hours of the morning. I finally made it to sleep and then overslept. When I finally got up, I went ahead and did the SWF which luckily worked pretty quickly. And thank goodness it did because it snowed this morning resulting in an hour drive to work in bumper to bumper traffic. I shudder to think of the results had it not worked! Anyway, because I was rushing around, I didn't make any lemonade to take with me to the office. I drank water all day but just had no energy.
Now I'm home with an extra tall serving of lemonade. I won't get in my full servings today but will hopefully get some sleep. I'm tiiiiiiiiiiiired people!!!
Okay. I feel better now.
I don't think I've had any unusual symptoms. I did have heartburn yesterday but I think that's from going overboard on the lemons. I love lemonade and was loving the lemons a bit too much. I think that was the problem. I do have a big ol' pimple near my right ear. It's the type that hurts when you touch it so, of course, I have to touch it. I haven't had a pimple in years. I guess I'm fascinated.
This will be my first day of not working out since I started the cleanse. My bed is calling me.
Happy cleansing everyone.
Thank you Ratton.
What happens if someone just dives into a big old meal. Not that I am going to. I just wonder if some has and it backfired. I wonder what happens. When I first read that my 1st thought was that I was in the middle of a cleanse and a big ol Burger King burger like the ones in the commercials came up and not being able to get around it, I dived in and ate some of it. But then I realized you were talking about diving into food after being done with lemonade drink instead of the juice.
The closest I did to having that happen was having calamari and chicken milanese at a work team lunch that I couldn't get out of during MC7 post cleanse Day 2. I just knew my stomach was going to make me pay for eating too soon and fried foods at that....but luckily I didn't hurt at all. But that was after a day of juice at least....never done it straight after lemonade.
Oh wow...that is rough! I don't know what I would've done. Water alone wouldn't have been enough even though folks do go on water fasts. You're very strong to hold on till getting home with just water. That totally rocks!!! I think I might've caved in and tried to eat something light.
I found this info on water fasting (relevant to the MC I think) and thought I would share. I'm actually quite healthy but it's making me think about going longer than 10 days this time. Wonder if I'm missing out on something by not going beyond 10-14 days. Comments?
"accelerated healing, can take one or many weeks more, again depending on how badly the body has been damaged. Healing proceeds rapidly after the blood chemistry has been stabilized, the person is usually in a state of profound rest and the maximum amount of vital force can be directed toward repair and regeneration of tissues. This is a miraculous time when tumors are metabolized as food for the body, when arthritic deposits dissolve, when scar tissues tend to disappear, when damaged organs regain lost function (if they can). Seriously ill people who never fast long enough to get into this stage (usually it takes about ten days to two weeks of water fasting to seriously begin healing) never find out what fasting can really do for them."
Yeah there does seem to be even more benefit cleansing for even longer...the most interesting point being tumors becoming food for the body. Maybe one day I'll try for a longer cleanse to see for myself.
Wrapping up on Day 8. They had Monday night $1 bowling games at Brunswich tonight so went with a friend of mine. We each bowled four games and I got spanked in three out of four, only winning my one game due to a tenth frame split he got. By the end of the fourth I was feeling a bit winded. I had packed an extra drink which I sipped a bit of on the way home. It helped a little but still felt that winded feeling. So when I got home I decided to drink the rest of it and up my cayenne pepper a bit. That seemed to help a little bit but I definitely will get some rest tonight after finishing my lax tea, which should be ready in a few more minutes.
I'm hoping I don't have to go in office tomorrow since Chicago is supposed to be hit with 2-3 inches starting Tuesday morning. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Day: 30
weight loss: 11kg
All going ok,
swf seems to be somewhat storing itself and being released throughout the day, but weight is constantly dropping so must be being eliminated.
Got pretty irritable the last couple of days but been under a lot of stress and having to rush about and things. Skin feels great, nice to feel clothing loose; belly gone down a lot. Need to tone up a bit,
I've noticed in the healthfood store how a lot of the men although healthy look rather weedy!
I've had some stomache aches but realised it was due to me loading up on the pepper, was putting in heaps of the stuff.
I'm wondering, is it a lot better to drink small glasses of lemonade throughout the day, or is it ok to knock down a litre or a pint of the drink at a time. I tend to drink a litre and a half in the morning, then take another litre and a half out with me. THen another when i get home.
ANyway, Im REALLY impressed with the detox/cleanse/weightloss - amazing how much change can be made in such a short time. This is my first cleanse and I wanted to make the most out of it hence the target of 40+ days. I think my previous taste for whiskey prepared me for the swf!
I'm wondering, is it a lot better to drink small glasses of lemonade throughout the day, or is it ok to knock down a litre or a pint of the drink at a time. I tend to drink a litre and a half in the morning, then take another litre and a half out with me. THen another when i get home.
ANyway, Im REALLY impressed with the detox/cleanse/weightloss - amazing how much change can be made in such a short time. This is my first cleanse and I wanted to make the most out of it hence the target of 40+ days. I think my previous taste for whiskey prepared me for the swf!
Cheerio Lemon Heads
Congrats on weight loss and health improvement. Not sure about the lemonade in bulk or smaller serves throughout the day like Borroughs suggests in his book....guess its up to the individual as each MC and each person is so different. And I got news for you ...LOL
THE SWF TASTES NOTHING LIKE WHISKEY:eek:
