So which is it, too little or too much salt? I'm definitely not passing a quart of salt water, so some is being absorbed. I'm drinking the lemonade and the senna tea like I should. Do I need to drink water in addition?

Hi Rachel,
I'm thinking that as 10 days is just about up and Im feeling ok; why not carry on.
I know your meant to keep a few months between cleansing so may as well make the most of this one, already on the road so keep on freewheeling.

Too late now to eat a christmas dinner, and also the new years booze up!
Find it easier to be on something hardcore like this rather then pick out brussel sprouts and all that. Carrying it on will mean I don't get **** faced on new years but can start 2011 with a much cleaner body and new mindset.

Getting a lot of negative feedback from family/friends but I listen to my body and it says more Lemons & swf

FireLemon & Skouby; I can only tell you from my own experience, and what I've heard experienced by a 15+ yr Cleanser.
I had to stop using the SWF because I was retaining it, and not getting elimination results. I was advised to increase the amt of Salt, and that did not work any better :(. I settled for using the Lax Tea twice daily, because it was not worth it for me to continually experiment with the amt of Salt need for me to get optimal results.
FireLemon..As far as the SWF mimicking the amt of Salt in your blood, or your system, that will vary from person to person. Blood tests will determine that, then how do we know exactly how many tsp or Tbsp to use in the SWF based on those results. I guess the best any of us can do, is see what works for us individually.

Good Luck

Ok I found this link:

I'll try adding a little more sea salt tomorrow and see if it works any better. Gags

Day 10.
Pissed off today, trying to sort out a job thats all last minute messing about.
Got my keys stuck in my pocket, pulled them out and ripped the pocket apart,
house is freezing and Ive run out of bloody organic lemons.

Thing is I know I could 'ease off' now but I dont look forward to doing this again soon so thinking may as well continue the process to make the best of the situation.

Bah Humbug!

ps - i can down a litre of delicious SWF with 3 teaspoons in it within 30 seconds.

Since about 10 years ago Ive been getting occasional outbreaks of urticaria / edema; like a kind of allergic reaction where you get swollen eyes, lips, hands etc.
Anyway, the treatment is the same as hayfever; you take antihistamines.

Usually i never take them unless i feel an outbreak coming on. I took 1 on around the 3rd day. Wondering if I should not take them and try at all to let my body rebalance or whatever. And no, im not going to ask the doctor as I know more about the condition now then they do. Just wonder if anyone else has any experience or suggestions.

Cheers.

I did 2.5 teaspoons of sea salt in the SWF this morning with somewhat better results. I'll try for three tomorrow but I might just have to accept that not all of it wants to come out all at once. My tenth day is Christmas and I don't want to still be cleansing by NYE (vegetarian pot luck) so I'm considering going to fresh carrot/apple juices and vegetable broth on the 25th, a day or so early.

I'm on day 4, and feeling great today! I had been doing cleanses about 3-4 times a year for several years, but the last one, about 8 months ago, stopped short when my stomach got really sore and I threw up some blood. But after working with a natural healer specifically to heal the things that would allow me to cleanse, I'm back in it, and so happy!

I've been doing the lax tea 2x/day instead of the SWF because I don't have the time to wake up 2-3 hrs earlier than usual to finish eliminating before work, but it seems to be doing the trick. One weird thing was, yesterday morning, when I tried to eliminate, my umm...sphincter was SO painful when I tried to go, lilke CRAZY painful, and then it instinctively clenched up to prevent the pain, and it took a long time to get anything out, even though there was stuff that needed to come out! Has anyone else had that? Fortunately, everything was OK by mid-day yesterday, and still seems OK now.

For some reason my tongue didn't get very coated this cleanse, it always used to get much more coated, and I'm pretty sure I've got a lot of toxins built up, but maybe they're just expressing themselves in a diferent way this time.

One of the hardest things is that other people feel bad for me, and dont want to eat in front of me, no matter how much I tell them it's OK. Especially now, around the holidays when so much revolves around food - How can I convince them it's really ok??

Thanks everyone for sharing your stories and your support, it's nice to feel llike I'm in this with a team!

Yes, and the amount of salt in your blood will change from hour to hour too. A blood test would only tell you how much you have at that moment. So when the salt water flush starts to not go through me then next time I will add more salt and if that doesnt work then I will try less the next day, or just a bit more. I just figured the amount specified in the recipe is more or less an average.

I did my first ever Master Cleanse December 7-16. I lost 13 pounds and got off of my diabetic medications.

Earlier this year I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and was hospitalized with ketoacidosis and almost went into ICU. My cholesterol was very high. I immediately began changing my diet to more of a vegetarian lifestyle over the next several months. Through my diet and exercise I cut my cholesterol down to a very healthy level in just a few short months and got off of cholesterol medication.

I decided to do the Cleanse and wanted to see if I could cut the need for my diabetic medications. I was not on insulin. I monitored my blood sugar levels very closely during the cleanse and my numbers were actually about 5-10 points lower than my normals before the cleanse while being on medications and being a vegetarian. After the cleanse was complete I did not restart my meds and monitored my blood sugar and was more strict about eating a vegetarian diet and it mostly raw. I went into my doctor's for a four month check-up and he was very happy with my results and did not renew my prescription for medications. So I have been med free for 3 weeks now and I feel great and have not gained any of the weight back.

There are about 20 people who will be doing the Cleanse in January because of my results. My doctor is going to have me speak at a wellness clinic he does with some of his patients on January 10. I am going to do another cleanse on Dec 28 and go thru Jan 11.

The Master Cleanse is amazing and has incredible benefits for health... I plan on being a regular practitioner and propagator of the Master Cleanse!

Pstr.Mike; Thank You so much for your post. I have been told that I am 'pre-Diabetic' and was a just slightly concerned doing the Cleanse ( kept the MS as low as possible), then started eating mostly Vegetables and Fruits post-cleanse. I don't do any testing, so I will just wait until my next Physical in Feb. I am hoping those results will be favorable.

So, I really appreciate your post, it gives me hope.

Congratulations on being selected to help so many people change their lives. The MC tends to get a bad 'rap' from those that are uninformed.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!!

Day 11
Lost around 11lb
Going to carry on to 21, then see how I feel. No reason to not go for 40.
Already fallen out with all my family over not eating anything over christmas, and feel like as I've started may as well go the whole way.

Wonder if my gut will go, or do i need to do a load of sit ups for that. Was hoping that my body would shrink fit around any current muscle. Was really fit a few years ago but have let is slide, sitting around watching tv, on the computer etc.

Anyway, had a good BM yesterday after the lax tea; could feel some nasties coming out.

Doing buttpee is ok but its seeing cr*p coming out that is uplifting.

Hi everyone,

This is my 7th day on the cleanse and I'm not seeing or feeling any of the results that other are experiencing. This is my second MC and I have not had that burst of energy, which I'm looking for - I'm tired of being tired and just want to feel good. I have no energy whatsoever nor lost any weight. I do the SWF in the morning and drink the laxative tea in the evening, 6-7 cups of Lemon drink, and about 5=6 cups of water. I go to the bathroom after the SWF which is more of the runs and hardly any bowel movement and nothing for the rest of the day except to pee.

To avoid doing an enema I'm thinking of increasing the laxative tea. When I did this fast before I had no desire for food, this time around I cheated last night by eating a tiny bit of trail mix...:( I just did not have the self control...

Is anyone experiencing this?
- please let me know what you did to get it right

Have a wonderful holiday

My husband and I are preparing for our first MC in January and had a question about the lemon juice. Right now citrus is very cheap here and we were wondering if the lemon juice would lose any effectiveness if we juiced it now then froze it till we were ready to use it. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks.

December 24th, 2010, 12:18 PM
Hi Topaz and welcome!

Yes, the juice will lose some of its value if you juice it now and freeze it. However, it won't lose everything, and if you're able to get organically grown lemons, then the tradeoff might be worth it. If you do decide to do that with the lemons, then when you do your cleanses you might want also to add in some fresh-squeezed ones at the time.

Happy cleansing!

Should i take the laxative tea in the morning if I am not able to keep down the SWF? I am willing to try the SWF every day.. not sure why i am having so much trouble with it this time around.. but if its not working, I can take a laxative tea in the morning as well (i just dont want to double dose on anything either).

I'm on day 12 (goal was initially 10 days) and was going to stop the cleanse today. But I've had a metallic taste in my mouth since this afternoon and have a coating on my tongue (it was clear before this afternoon so I thought I was done with the cleanse) I've lost 16lbs in 12 days and wanted to ease back into food so I could eat somewhat normally for new years since we'll be out of town for the weekend. Should I continue the cleanse till my tongue is clear and the metallic taste is gone? I'm ok with that, just was looking forward to having a normal new years since I couldn't eat anything all of Christmas.

hey! i am on my 2nd day. I started the Master Cleanse on December 25th and plan to continue it for 10 days to January 3rd (my birthday). I have been feeling all tired and old and grumpy and I have packed on 15 pounds since last January so I decided I would give myself a birthday gift and Master Cleanse this year. This is my 3rd time doing the cleanse. The first time I did it was like 11 years ago. I did it for 5 days and had some great spiritual benefits. Then I tried to do it again 3 years ago but only made it 1 day. This year I'm halfway through my second day and feeling great! Bad headaches yesterday and lots of lethargy (due to caffeine detox) but it passed today after my morning elimination. Excited to see what gunna happen!:D

Hey Firelemon. If I wasn't doing a supervised juice fast on retreat in February then I'd be joining for a 20 day. My fast is 21 days in February so I'm not pushing my luck with nutritional reserves. About the caffeine: tea doesn't really make it easier. If you steep it long enough it can be pretty strong. I'd be a week off caffeine before you start the cleanse. It'll make things a lot easier.

Hi Evita,
Thanks for your response. I took your advice on cutting out the coffee a little earlier. It will probably make a big difference; I was feeling the withdrawal symptoms for a few days. They were pretty strong. Post back when you get back from your juice fast retreat. Id like to know how it went.

Cleanse going ok, just bad time of year to be doing it.
Went out last night had a dance and met friends etc, but found it difficult to 'join in' as the evening got later. Friends wanted to come back to my place, but at the moment there's lemons and water bottles everywhere and as they were all pretty drunk I just felt a bit of a gooseberry.

With new years day coming up I feel like im going to be missing out on wild fun.

Also, while the weight is coming off I would like to excercise to stop muscle deterioration.

I just drank my cup of herbal laxative tea and I am starting the cleanse in the morning, though I've had your book for months. I have been experiencing several things health-wise (some joint pain, back pain, continuous fatigue, dark circles under my eyes, an anal fissure that has given me much grief, and gained 15-20 pounds over the last 1 1/2 years) so I'm very interested in seeing how effective this cleanse really is. I am also studying nutrition and dietetics in college, so I will know first hand the effects of this cleanse. Looking forward to progress and success!

Freshly extracted sugarcane juice is actually the ideal formula in Stanley Burrough's book and also listed in Peter Glickman's book.

SIDE NOTE: I have Peter's 2nd edition and now his 3rd edition and reading again. My 2nd edition was already passed on. Even though all information available with research, it is wonderful to have as a single place resource and to poss along to others. Support Peter in his generosity with this site by getting book. Of course get Stanley's book too. I'm looking forward to getting electronic versions.

Back to sugarcane juice. Most of us don't have access to fresh sugar cane to be able to make fresh juice. If using sugarcane juice, please make sure you are freshly extracting to use for Master Cleanse. Anything else is dead and just a pure sugar load like any processed store bought juices and not fit for humans wanting optimum health.

If anyone knows where we can get fresh organic sugarcane to juice, please let us know. I would also like to know approximately how many pounds of sugarcane is required to make 10 ounces of juice.

I'll share more later on my experience with the Master Cleanse (MC). Planning on starting second MC with family on January 2nd, 2011. I may start sooner than rest of family because my goal is 15 days. Lots of potential excuses coming up, so I'll see. :)

Fun & Smiles,
CC Heart Cindy :)

Starting mine around 3rd Jan when my supplies arrive from MC store, meantime cutting out coffee and having fuits, salads, soups and green smoothies so as to ease the detox symptoms of the first few days.

This time I shall be utilising metaphysics as an added tool for my success.....

Hi Leople! (Lemon People)
Today is day 2 out of (hopefully) 40. So far I am doing pretty good. When I woke up this morning I felt so good. It was the feeling I was hoping for before I started the cleanse and the reason I started the cleanse early (yesterday instead of January 1st). I was feeling pretty bad before I started and didn't feel like wasting more time feeling like that.

So, yesterday I woke up and read these forums while I drank the salt water and waited for it to do its thing. It came off with out a hitch. Then I did some relaxing yoga. Its called Candlelight Yoga if you are interested. You can watch it instantly from Netflix. Its pretty darn good. Its not the type of yoga used for cardio or muscle development but the relaxing kind. I think that will be a morning ritual for me.
The day went well with only minor hunger pangs occasionally.
Also I have a list of movies I am going to watch that should help me not want to eat. Yesterdays selection was called Food Inc. and yes that did it for me. I recommend watching it if you get to feeling like you want to eat. I also recommend watching it even if you aren't on the cleanse. Its about where our food comes from. There is a scene of someone eating at the beginning though, so you are warned. heehee.
I also finally tackled something I had been putting off for way too long because I just didn't want to do it. So I think that is great too.

Ill check back in tomorrow, good luck everyone and Happy New Year. :D

Today is day 14 for me. I drank the lemonade drink for breakfast and ran out with the kids to the mall and grocery store and couldn't have more drink so by the time we got home and made dinner, I was ready for real food. I was so hungry from not drinking my drinks during the day. I had 3 slices of green pepper dipped in a small amount of hummus and a piece of pita bread and a few raw almonds. I'm feeling ok for now. I planned on starting back with broth, but it was too far gone to start with broth I was starving. I'm going to try and maintain the weight that I lost. 14 day fast with 16 lb weight loss. I've been checking out the raw foods recipes and will be trying some of those. I can't wait to try some of them because they really do sound good.

Congratulations to ALL who survived Christmas on the Cleanse:eek:. Hat's off to you.

I am anticipating the MC Board will be bombarded with not just repeat 'Lemon Heads', but first-timers as well making a New Year's Resolution to detox, and lose weight. Let's hope they will be prepared by reading the Books, and perusing the Boards to familiarize themselves with the workings of the Cleanse.

Happy New Year to All

I'm on my second day of the cleanse and I have a question. I'm 4'11" and I'm wondering if I should adjust the salt water flush and do a little less. Hello everybody, just checking in. Congrats to everyone who made it through Christmas and also lots of good wishes to those just starting the MC or doing their next cleanse. Aside from Christmas Day I've been eating organic vegan/vegetarian but that's my usual diet. It just makes more sense to my body. Lots of veggies, lots of barley soups, tofu, etc. And then about 2 days ago I came down with the flu... whoopie! I won't be joining the Jan MC because I'm going on retreat in February at Tree of Life and that's a 21 day green juice fast so I need to make sure my nutritional reserves are ready for that. I also like doing mine before seasonal changes. It's a yogi thing:) I'll check in now that my travels are over for the time being. Happy cleansing everybody. You can do it!:D

You should definitely keep with two tsp. for 32 oz of water otherwise your body will retain the fluid. You don't want that. The gravity of the water is enough so that it passes through you rather than being absorbed back into the body. You're body is likely just doing what it needs to do right now. Mine are usually more in the beginning and less as the cleanse goes. Are you drinking the lax tea in the morning as well? If so then don't do that. You may want to alternate days on the lax tea at night but it's very early in your cleanse so just keep doing what you're doing. Everything changes everyday and even late into the cleanse. Just keep yourself VERY well hydrated. At least 60 oz. of water on top of the minimum lemonade. You can definitely drink more than that. Best to you.

I exercised while on the cleanse but I am a pretty intense exerciser to begin with. I really just watched how I spaced out my LAs so that I would get sick or dehydrated, sugar crash etc. I don't know. If you think it through would you rather be trashed and hungover (which is REALLY bad for your body, detox and weight loss) or would you rather feel clear, clean and strong. The parties will always be there but your health may not be. Hang in there. You're doing great!

Hi everyone

Well, I am on day 3 of 40 and so far everything is going smoothly, it would be nice if I felt this way for the whole 40 days but I highly doubt that will happen. It would make it easier though.
I ordered two gallons of organic maple syrup online so that is one less thing I have to worry about and hopefully will help me stick to the cleanse. I still have a day or two worth of syrup left over from my last cleanse. I hope the bottles it comes in are BPA free. Im already marinating in BPA probably, from everything they put that stuff in. I've checked out the maple syrup supply in various stores and the price is so very high and usually only grade A is offered. Either way its too small of an amount for our needs (this is serious business! :D) and too expensive. Buying online in gallons is the way to go for me.
Lemons seem to be in season right now so that is another big plus for doing the cleanse this time of year.

Anyway, Ill check back in tomorrow. Stay strong everyone and Happy New Year!

Day: 17 (when i wake up)

all going ok, except I just realised what i thought was a litre (32oz) was actually only around 26oz!
So i've been knocking back my SWF with under the specified amount of water.
Shall increase the water tomorrow morning, although it's more to drink i guess the salt will be less intense.

Big new years parties coming up, Im usually one of the biggest booze hounds so will be a shock for my friends. Got to work out how to smuggle in the Lemonade...

I'm surprised how much maple syrup costs and how quick it goes, gone through around a litre & a half.
will try buying the algarve nector or whatever its called as i read it's officially ok to use ( and a lot cheaper ).

I can feel my clothing fitting looser which is nice, but am on a mission. Currently aiming for the full 40 day cleanse. Why not!

Had my first lemonade at 9 am and have been surfing the net and such. Will be hitting the shower here shortly and then will face the rest of the day.

Hi Folks,

Im on day 4 of 40 today. I am feeling pretty well though my hunger pangs were a bit stronger last night. I feel like I am thinking a bit clearer and have a bit more self-confidence which is great and very much needed. I have to remember these things for when I feel tempted to eat.

Anyway, I will check in tomorrow. Good Luck everyone and Happy New Year:)

ps - got a few people want to come and visit/hang out with me but am used to drinking and eating as the hub of social activities. kind of feel a bit of a hermit even though i know it's for my own good.
Cant invite people over for dinner etc and then sit there not eating.

Make yourself some "Master Cleanse Margaritas"! (Who is the one who always talks about these? Lahontani maybe?)

Prepare the lemonade (use limes to make it even more authentically margarita like) as a slushie with ice cubes made from good quality water in the appropriate amount, blenderize it, put it in a martini glass with celtic sea salt around the top - FESTIVE!

A New Year's Eve cocktail any lemon head can be proud of with no cheating ingredients!

Hope everyone is managing to stay festive during their cleanses... January 1st - I'm ready to go again!

Hi Everyone,
I started a cleanse in late November, I only made it four days... my Husbands Grandmother passed away and the cleanse went out the window. So I'm back here getting ready to start all over again. I'm about to drink my tea and go to bed. I'm thinking about trying to go to 14 days this time.
From my four days before I found that I have a super hard time in the afternoon with cravings and "hunger". I was trying to fill my time before with doing things with my kids, cleaning like crazy and knitting but was still driving myself crazy with wanting to eat something. Does anyone have any suggestions to eliminate that? I was drinking about 8 cups of the LA, maybe I need to be sipping on it a bit more during the afternoons? Anyway any pointers are very welcome.

Happy Cleansing! :)

I am on day 2 and I feel great.

Thankfully, I did three days of stepping in.

I cut out coffee and espresso, instead drinking one cup of green tea. I did have headaches on those days from going through the coffee withdrawal, but the green tea tempered it a bit. Now that I'm on the cleanse, I have not had any headaches.

I highly recommend eliminating coffee before the cleanse, as I can imagine having headaches today would make me very irritable and probably cause me to desperately want to go off the cleanse.

I did have a little red wine on those evenings before the cleanse. It doesn't seem to have affected me now.

For breakfast and lunch I juiced Natalia Rose's "Green Lemonade"

For dinner I just ate what my family was eating, salmon one night, pasta another.

I had chocolate every day before the cleanse. :)

Anyway, the energy level and clarity that I'm experiencing are unexpected to me, plus my body and skin feel great. My little gut will probably go flat by the end of this, which is another nice boost, but not the reason I'm doing it, Beyonce! :). I'm looking forward to finishing 10 days of this and then easing back into a mostly vegan / raw diet, with the Green Lemonade as my staple for the first meal and maybe second of the day.

Hi Lemon People (Leople)
Lessee...this is day five of forty for me. Things have been going pretty well this time around. It seems like my body has something similar to muscle memory when it comes to this cleanse.

I did a double take yesterday when I looked in the mirror; my sclerae were alot whiter. It looks good. :)

Hi AmSunshine
I have a few things I do to prevent cravings. I always have a lemonaid with me that I sip on through out the day. If I do start feeling really hungry I will drink down a whole glass quickly or maybe even more then a glass. I also make a gallon of it at a time (1 1/2cups syrup, 1 1/2 cups of lemon juice, 1-2 tsp cayenne pepper (I like it really spicy) so that I always have lemonaid and my hunger never gets to the point of just wanting to eat anything. I know ideally I should make a fresh glass of lemonaid everytime instead of making a gallon but I think I wouldn't be on the cleanse long if I did it that way.
-Another thing I do when the hunger or cravings come is try to rationalize them away. For example I ask myself if i am really hungry or do I just want to eat out of habit. The answer has always been that I just want to eat out of habit. I also try to remember that I get hunger pangs even when I am eating. hehe.
-I also do a relaxing/restorative type yoga that might help you. Its called 'Candlelight Yoga', I really like it alot. You can watch it instantly if you have Netflix. But probably any kind would help.
-Baths help
-Watch 'Food Inc.' that will make you not want to eat for sure.
-Make a list of why you are doing the cleanse and read it when you feel like you want to eat (my list grows as I see benefits that I didnt expect).
-I try to remember that the hunger will go away after awhile.

Well, these are just a few of the main things I do. I hope at least some of it was helpful. I wish you alot of luck.

and Happy New Year

Firelemon,
Thank you so much for your reply. All of your suggestions are so helpful. I know that its definitely just my head saying go eat something around this time of day because it is normally when I would snack!
I will have to re-watch Food Inc. and I never noticed that CandlelightYoga on Netflix before, I just added it to my queue.
It has been a beautiful day here today, in the mid 60's! So the kids and I have bee out playing. Just came in for a bit of a break and a snack for the kids. But I'm thankfully not tempted by it. :)
Oh, and I love the cayenne also! I'm guessing that's where you got your screen name from? Very clever! ;)

Hope everyone else is having an awesome day!

Day 20:
Weight lost: about 15lb

Feel fine, switched to agave syrup as cheaper then maple. Has more of a nutty taste that I like, have a desire for almonds! And I dreamt I was eating grapes. Perhaps this is my body telling mecehay it wants.

Have started using mineral water for my evening lax tea but was previously boiling tsp water, is it important to use mineral water for the tea also.

Would like to lose another 15lb but is refreshing to see the daily changes, skin feels great and my energy level has increased and got ne doing stuff ivshouldve done ages ago.

Have ramped up the amount of pepper I'm using.
Kitchen looksike a lemon massacre!

Good luck to everyone,
I'm going for 40, half way there and feel fine.
Is 40 like the optimal timescale. I realise everyone is different and to listen to your body but just wondered why 40 seems to be the target; I'm just following what seems to be the optimum cleanse.

Bungholio; Congratulations ! You are half way through your Cleanse.
I used filtered tap water for my Lax Tea, especially since it was also being boiled. I purchased the water used for drinking and LA's from the Water Store. It was much less expensive than purchasing bottled water.
I am curious to know how you like the Agave Nectar vs M S. I just received a 6-pack of Organic Blue Agave from Amazon for my next MC. I've never used A N on anything before, and hoping I made a wise choice.
Not sure what Spirulina is, but I'm sure some MC Purist will be along to tell you what "The Book says". I have known MC Veterans who have used Green Smoothies occasionally during a long cleanse.
As far as the 40 day Cleansing goes, the reference I have seen was that of Christ's fast of 40 days. Nutritionally, I will question going beyond that, but I think it's and individual choice. It has been done before.

Good Luck on the 'Next 20'

HI EVERYBODY! I'm starting another cleanse! After experiencing such success during my 1st cleanse, I'm even more elated for this one.

Though I'm not a raw foodist, I've completely changed my eating habits and have embraced a more alkaline, pescatarian style diet that includes a lot more raw fruits and vegetables. I still plan on enjoying "junk food" but in moderation (a few times a year vs. a few times a week). I, like Benni (Hey Benni :D) have continued to lose post cleanse. My cleanse ended in November and I've lost additonal lbs since then. Let me not fail to mention that I work out about 7 to 10 hrs each week and eat pretty well.

Thanks to the support of all of the RawFoodSite Members, I'm doing well. Thanks to you all! And enjoy the rest of 2010!

Hi there Bungholio (haha) I am trying for 40 too but way behind you (day six). I would like to see a good biological reason for the 40 day goal. I did a little searching and came up with this. It doesnt exactly answer it because it only goes to 30 but for what its worth here it is. It was posted by Peanutterb:

remembered reading this article back during my MC1 in march.
Thought i'd share with everyone, esp since there's so many questions about why ten days and complaints about the ten days being too much...

Detoxification Stages

Here is an overview of the detoxification stages during a juice fast. The time periods are a general estimation.

Stage 1 (Day 1 To Day 2)
On the first day of fasting, the blood sugar level drops below 70 mg/dl. To restore the blood to the normal glucose level, liver glycogen is converted to glucose and released into the blood. This reserve is enough for half a day. The body then reduces the basal metabolic rate (BMR). The rate of internal chemical activity in resting tissue is lowered to conserve energy. The heart slows and blood pressure is reduced. Glycogen is pulled from the muscle causing some weakness. The first wave of cleansing is usually the worst.

Headaches, dizziness, nausea, bad breath, glazed eyes and a heavily coated tongue are signs of the first stage of cleansing. Hunger can be the most intense in this period unless the enema is used which quickly assists the body into the fasting state by ending digestion in the colon.

Stage 2 (Day 3 To Day 7)
Fats, composed of transformed fatty acids, are broken down to release glycerol from the gliceride molecules and are converted to glucose. The skin may become oily as rancid oils are purged from the body. People with problem-free skin may have a few days of pimples or even a boil. A pallid complexion is also a sign of waste in the blood. Ketones are formed by the incomplete oxidation of fats. It is suspected that the ketones in the blood suppress the appetite by affecting the food-satiety center in the hypothalamus. You may feel hungry for the first few days of the fast. This effect is temporary. The desire to eat will disappear. Lack of hunger may last 40 to 60 days, depending on whether you are on water or juice.

The body embraces the fast and the digestive system is able to take a much-needed rest, focusing all of its energies on cleansing and healing. White blood cell and immune system activity increases. You may feel pain in your lungs. The cleansing organs and the lungs are in the process of being repaired. Periodically, the lymphatic system expels mucoid matter through the nose or throat. The volume excreted of this yellow-colored mucus can be shocking. The sinuses go through periods of being clogged, then will totally clear. The breath is still foul and the tongue coated. Within the intestine, the colon is being repaired and impacted feces on the intestinal wall start to loosen.

Stage 3 (Day 8 to Day 15)
On the latter part of an extended fast, you can experience enhanced energy, clear-mindedness and feel better than you have felt since childhood. On the downside, old injuries may become irritated and painful. This is a result of the body's increased ability to heal during fasting. If you had broken your arm 10 years before, there is scar tissue around the break. At the time of the break, the body's ability to heal was directly related to lifestyle. If you lived on a junk-food diet, the body's natural healing ability was compromised.

During fasting, the body's healing process is at optimum efficiency. As the body scours for dead or damaged tissue, the lymphocytes enter the older, damaged tissue secreting substances to dissolve the damaged cells. These substances irritate the nerves in the surrounding region and cause a reoccurrence of aches from previously injured areas that may have disappeared years earlier. The pain is good as the body is completing the healing process. The muscles may become tight and sore due to toxin irritation. The legs can be the worst affected, as toxins accumulate in the legs. Cankers are common in this stage due to the excessive bacteria in the mouth. Daily gargling with salt and water will prevent or heal cankers.

Stage 4 (Day 16 to Day 30)
The body is completely adapted to the fasting process. There is more energy and clarity of mind. Cleansing periods can be short with many days of feeling good in between. There are days when the tongue is pink and the breath is fresh. The healing work of the organs is being completed. After the detoxification mechanisms have removed the causative agent or render it harmless, the body works at maximum capacity in tissue proliferation to replace damaged tissue. While a short fast will reduce the symptoms, a longer fast can completely heal. Homeostatic balance is at optimum levels. The lymphatic system is clean except for a rare discharge of mucus through the nose or throat. After day 20, the mind is affected. Heightened clarity and emotional balance are felt at this time. Memory and concentration improve.

Stage 5 (Breaking the Fast)
The sticky, toxic, mucoid coating on the intestinal wall is loose, and the first meal frees it from the intestinal wall. Toxins enter the blood through the colon. The gallbladder dumps its waste in a heavy discharge of bile. This can cause an instant bowel movement upon eating followed by intense diarrhea. If the symptoms are too uncomfortable, an enema will help.

I just have a general question here.. I just finished a 10 day cleanse, starting Dec first. Would it be safe to start another cleanse on January first? Or should there be more time in between..

Hi there Bee_Lop...

Based on my research, my suggestion is if you feel you're ready for another cleanse... GO FOR IT!
The end date for my last cleanse was 11/24/10 and I'm starting another one tomorrow on New Year's.

Generally speaking, I wouldn't suggest doing the MC every month but if the Dec one was your 1st cleanse, I'm sure your body's still got some detoxifying and rebuilding to do and could possibly benefit from another cleanse.

Whatever you decided, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY! If you start and things seem a little too strange, uncomfortable, awkward it's probably best you end the cleanse and make another attempt at the end of January or top of February. Remember: In the end, IT'S UP TO YOU!

Good luck and best of health,

Chepina

THE ULTIMATE SALT WATER FLUSH TIP...

When people ask me about the Master Cleanse, the 1st advice I always give is:
"WHATEVER YOU DO... DON'T SKIP THE SALT WATER FLUSH."

To paraphrase Peter Glickman,
THE MASTER CLEANSE IS THE DETERGENT (my personal addition)
THE HERBAL TEA IS THE AGITATOR &
THE SALT WATER FLUSH IS THE RINSE CYCLE
Now imagine washing your clothes without the rinse cycle. I know... it's AWFUL cause the dirt's simply been broken down & stirred up but not rinsed off the clothes . There's just no way around it people. Using the herbal tea morning and night isn't as effective. You have to do the SWF to reap the full benefits of the Master Cleanse experience.

During my 1st cleanse, the SWF was a HUGE struggle for me (nausea/vomiting) but knowing the importance of it, I set out to find an alternative method to make things easier. After weeks of trial & error I came up with the method below. It works perfectly without any discomfort. Having heard so many horror stories about the SWF, I hope someone finds this information helpful.

CHEPINA'S NO NAUSEA/VOMITING SALT WATER FLUSH METHOD
*Same, ingredients w/ a modified technique for easier consumption*

32 oz. of Purified Water (1 quart) – Room Temperature
2 Teaspoons (level) of Sea Salt w/o Iodine (I use Celtic Sea Salt Brand)
1 mug and 1 cup

To be done on an empty stomach each morning. Mix 2 to 3 oz of the water and the 2 tsp of sea salt in the mug. Warm the salt water in the microwave for approximately 30 seconds. Allow it to cool. Fill your other cup with the clean purified water while waiting. Test the temperature of the salt water. When safe, take a sip of the salt water and chug as much of the clean water immediately after. Be sure to swish the water around to rid your mouth of the salty taste (this is what provokes the nausea and vomiting). Repeat this until the salt water is gone. Then drink the remaining purified water until you’ve ingested the entire 32 oz. Try your best to do this within a 5-minute period.

Within 30 mins up to 2 hours (it may take longer at 1st) you can expect 5 to 6 rapid eliminations that usually last no more than a 2 hour period. Just make sure you don’t have anywhere to go. I suggest waking up a little earlier than usual until you get the hang of how quickly your body will respond to the SWF.

HAPPY NEW YEAR, HAPPY CLEANSING & BEST OF HEALTH, CHEPINA

Congrats on making it half way through the cleanse! You're a champ! My original goal was 40 days, but I decided to end it at 30 days after noticing a significant decrease in my muscle mass. Other than that everything was great! 40 is more than possible!

Your ? sounds like mine during my 1st cleanse. I asked the board about adding whole psyllium husk & green smoothies to the cleanse for a boost. I'm sure you already know what they said... "DON'T DO IT."
In the end, it's up to you but I'm glad I didn't do it because the next day, on Day 21, I had a major breakthrough in my cleanse (I eliminated my 1st black snake aka mucoid plaque). It was then that I realized THE MASTER CLEANSE WORKS PERFECTLY ON ITS OWN! You're doing great! Keep up the good work, just try to steer away from modifying the cleanse. You won't regret it.

I am curious to know how you like the Agave Nectar vs M S. I just received a 6-pack of Organic Blue Agave from Amazon for my next MC. I've never used A N on anything before, and hoping I made a wise choice.

Hey again Benni:

To break up the monotony, I used Organic Blue Agave Nectar (I bought mine @ Publix) during my last cleanse. It completely changed the taste of the lemonade but wasn't bad at all. Just to mix things up I alternated between the A N and the M S for a little over two weeks. Once I ran out, I reverted back to M S for the remainder of my cleanse.

However, post cleanse, recognizing the health benefits of A N I purchased more and started using it as a sweetener instead of honey or xylitol. It's great for sweetened carrots or on pancakes. l hope you'll like it but honestly, that just depends on your taste buds. I must admit I like it much better when it's not in the lemonade. So if you don't particularly care for it that way, try using it on and in other things. That way you'll at least get part of your money's worth.

LOL! I'm glad you were able to view my old posts. I'm going to update my signature so people won't think a small animal died inside of me. LOL. :p No worries, Firelemon. It wasn't painful at all.

Had I not looked in the toilet after elimination it probably would've gone completely unnoticed. Prior to experiencing it, I thought the black snake (during the MC) was a myth (I so believe mucoid plaque was real). I guess God said, "I'll make a believer out of you, yet." Like I always tell fellow cleansers, "No matter how digusting, it's better out than in." Hopefully, that'll set your mind at ease and make your nightmares go away. HAPPY NEW YEAR IN ADVANCE!

First, after re-reading the Burroughs book, I realized there's nothing on how to prepare for the cleanse. Does anyone have specific information about this? Like what foods to avoid the day before, etc.

Thanks for your help, and Happy New Year all!!

Italichic; I have not read of a preparation per se. Just have all your supplies on hand. The preparation is mostly psychological for not eating for however long you plan to do the MC. Some people do an ease-in by eating lightly, or Juicing for about 3 days prior, but it's not necessary.
Since you will be doing the Cleanse with your Dad and Fiance, you will have support, and at least 2 less people around that will tempt you with food :D

Good Luck, and Happy New Year

Hey y'all~
I had to take a step back on Wednesday and postponed my cleanse a couple of days because of unforeseen circumstances. I used the extra days to ease off caffeine. I had started drinking coffee again at Thanksgiving....started with decaf, but went to caf once my family was here from out of town. Oy! Regreting that mistake....

Had the caffeine withdrawal headache for 3 days. I did start back in with Day 1 yesterday and had the mental battle because of the headaches, but am holding fast ( haha)

I am going to complete at least 21 days. I have a conference at the end of this month and am not sure if I can do the cleanse while away. Once I find out the accomodations, I will decide for certain.

Looking to really clean myself out from emotional drain and too much wine in 2010. I fear I used the bottle too much to numb the pain of my father's death. I am dedicating this fast to healing for the most part. This past Tuesday was the 1 year anniversary of his surgery and the last time he wasn't in a medically induced coma. So really it is the anniversary of his death. His final breath was on Jan 15th and it was proceeded by a very bad week. Anyhoo...enough of that. Just unloading a bit....

Hoping today is a better day ;)

I am on Day 1 today... So far so good. Not hungry and feeling pretty good. Stepped on the scale and it read 160lbs... YIKES!!! That was the perfect motivator for me to start NOW. I have been gearing myself up for this for the past few days. Staying busy helps. I realize that much of my eating is out of habit or boredom. Looking forward to changing my bad habits and getting the junk out of my body.

Thanks so much, and good luck to everyone in their cleanse!!!

Happy New Year Lemon Heads!

Starting out on day one here after a very late night last night ringing in 2011... On the one hand, a hang over is unpleasant without my usual comfort foods to manage it, on the other cleansing is exactly what is needed after sampling so many of those "Winter Brews" beers in the nifty gift pack designed by World Market! With the holidays this past week there was no "easing in" going on in my house! LOL. Plus it will be easier to remember what day I am on if I start on the first... Did manage to maintain the weight loss from November's cleanse despite Thanksgiving, a trip to Vegas, and a deluge of Christmas delicacies. Overall the "adding good things and limiting bad things" philosophy seems to be working. I think it will be even better after this cleanse.

I have set my goal as 28 days. This will be my longest cleanse to date and I'm really hoping to kick things in to high cleansing gear by adding on more time. Thanks Firelemon for reposting that stages info - it really made me want to go for the extension. For many people they suggest first aiming for 10 and adding on - but for me I think that a clear intention is what is needed...

Welcome new and old friends - glad you are here and we can do this together!

Let the lemon squeezing commence!

Random forum use question... anyone know how to go to MY last post in a thread upon arrival here? I want to read all posts and hitting "last page," particularly in January, will probably way over shoot and then I must back track to where I left off.... suggestions?

Hey Connie! :D Nice to see you're giving it another go! Glad to some of the old lemonade brigade ringing in the new year with another cleanse. I began another cleanse today as well. My last cleanse was 30 so I'm only aiming for 14 this time around. Good luck on meeting your 28 day mark. It's more than possible. You know we've got your back.

OK, day number one. here it goes.
Did the last night thing, the salt water thing and now the lemonade.
I am surprised at how much I like the lemonade. I have always liked spicy foods. So the pepper should satisfy that fix.

How am I Doing?
I am hopeful and doubtful of my resolve. This so reminds me of when I quit tobacco using Quitnet. I have the same driving force as back then with the tobacco. What is it? "I just don't want to have to come back in here and say that I failed."

Oh yeah one question…..Is it ok if the lemon pulp (i do not mean alot) gets in the tea or should I filter it?

Here goes.

Far as I know it is not a problem. Some where in Burroughs it actually talks about using the ENTIRE lemon, rind and all, so a bit of pulp shouldn't be an issue.

Day 20 (night after NYE).
Just weighted in at around 73.3kg meaning weight loss of around 20 lb
Not been this weight ever! but I used to have a lot more muscle (hard core kung fu training a few years back)

I don't like the sound of muscle loss some posters have mentioned after 30 days, so have started knocking out press ups. I can see my beer belly has gone down a lot and my clothes are all much looser. Feels good, skin feels very soft and clean, my mind is much more clear and focused.

Regarding the NYE party:
Smuggled in my lemonade in a flask in my boot, with the pepper bottle ducktaped to the underside of my bag! brought still mineral water from the bar and mixed it up on the dancefloor: Danced until 6am!

Regarding the agave syrup; I LOVE IT, for some reason it leaves me with a delicious almond type taste.
Unfortunately I ran out yesterday and the only thing I could buy was '"Grade 1 Pure canadian maple syrup". Will be using this for 2 days until the shops open, I hope it will not mess up my cleanse as i know it needs to say 'Organic'.

Reakon will continue for the 40 days, as was mentioned the 40 is based on Jesus and all that so with it being Christmas seems a good target. But realise the need to listen to your body. But at the moment feels fine, back ached rather a lot last night but that could have been the dancing about.

I have an old injury (knee tear) that has started hurting, I've read this means healing is in effect as the body does some Maintenance.

Cheerio!

Feeling much better today. Just finished a half hour of rowing and made dinner for the family. I am having some lemonade and then will take a nice long soak in the tub. The caffeine withdrawal seems to be on the wane and my head feels much better.

Bungholio; It sounds like a Military Maneuver getting your MC supplies into the NYE party :D. You had enough energy to dance until 6 am after 20 days on MC:confused:, Good for you.
The Pure MS should not affect your Cleanse, it's like an alternative Plan C.
A good warm Tub soak with Epsom Salts, or a Sauna should help along the discomfort from that old injury. Sounds like you're on target with some deep detox/cleansing.

Cheering you on to 40 days :)

Day 1 - Complete!

Day 1 was quite uneventful. I really prepared way in advance for this cleanse. I stopped drinking my beloved coffee 4 days in advance. I started eating lighter 2 days in advance. Yesterday, I pretty much survived on raw foods all day, and not too much either. So today, Day 1 of my cleanse, I felt nothing whatsoever. No headaches, no hunger, no weakness. 13 more days, and I hope its gonna be a breeze!!

I will be starting Day 1 tomorrow - I figure I should start out the New Year trying to rid myself of the bad to bring in the good. I'm kind of nervous - nervous of failing. I do not have a "support system" - and there is no one to talk me out of temptations - so - wish me luck?

Thank you all!!

Hey relaxnnow....you DO have a support system - US!!!!! And the best way for me to defeat the temptations is to remind myself that all the "great stuff" I love to have will be right there waiting for me when the cleanse is over. Its not going anywhere. This is temporary and for the body's good!!

Hope that helps.:D

I'm almost done with Day 1! Pretty uneventful so far. It's been hard for me to get all of the lemonade down today. I like it; the taste is fine, I just am not all that thirsty. I'm planning on 14 days this cleanse. I did 10 in July and that was the best I have felt in months. I'm getting married this July so I'm hoping to kickstart good habits for this year as I will need to be on my "A" game in the upcoming months. A flatter belly won't hurt either. :)

Beginning weight 132 - and 5'3''.

I'm curious how I'm going to do at work. I teach kindergarten and my concern is with the SWF. I'm not sure how much earlier I will need to get up and make sure I'm completely flushed before I get to work. Once I get there and around the kids, there is really no chance for trips to the bathroom! Any tips or advice?

I would wake up at least one and a half hour earlier than normal. Once the SWF is done working, the rest of the day should be uneventful, bathroom-wise. It just depends on how long it takes to work for you. I like to drink a large glass of plain water 1/2 hour after the SWF; it helps me 'get things going.'

Good luck. You're going to do great!

I think it is important to realize that what works for one may not work for another.

That being said, I get up 2 hours earlier.... I absolutely never drink any extra fluids until at least the 2 hour mark as for me it tends to prolong the "expelling" process so to speak! once I start "going" it takes longer to stop if I drink more water. It is rather hard not to drink as the SWF makes me pretty thirsty, but for ME extra water is a no no.

One point also - I tend to drink the SWF, then curl back into a ball and pretend I am not yet awake... others do this too, but I wonder if things would go quicker if I moved around a but more? Sort of help things progress? I will experiment with that more this time.

Once the two hours is up and I am on my way to work, I have a cup of peppermint tea which helps to settle my stomach from the treatment I just gave it.

Watch carefully for what works for you and go with it - following the burroughs plan is very importnat, but there is a good bit of leeway in areas like this for what works for each of us.

Good luck!

Day 1 and it's been great thus far. Like one of the posters above mentioned, I think I eased into this cleanse so my first day was uneventful. The last week has been a lot of light eating and almost no caffiene for the alst 3 days. The day before I ate ony clear broth soups with no meat.

I wasn't hungry at all and barely managed to drink the full 60 oz plus a cup of tea today. I didn't do the laxative last night as originally planned, so maybe that had somethign to do with todays minimal eliminations. Today was a good day, but I know the first three are the ones to watch for, so I'm going into tomorrow knowing it might not be so easy.

I'm wondering if I should be taking more like 80 oz of lemonade a day since my starting weight in 172 *ugh* I do the SWF in the morning , laxative tea at night and try to drink 1-2 glasses of herbal tea during the day.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

day 1- Fail

Everything went fine until late afternoon when I had a pulsating, throbbing headache! Same problem as always and why I haven't been able to do a good cleanse in a long time. Everytime I try, I get headaches. I've compaliend about them before on here. Anyway - it was so bad I ended up throwing up. It was actually kind of painful..like it was coming from a deep part of my stomach and it was like convulsing. Never threw up on the MC before. Felt a bit better after it came out..took a shower..then started getting really bad acid refulx and just still feeling nausesus even though nothing was in my stomach. I did NOT want to throw up again and there was a lot of acid floating around my system. I could feel it coming back up, tasting it..etc. So I ate a package of crackers to make it stop. It worked and I feel I really needed it. You know the age old remedy of carbs soaking up acid..really does work. Not all that healthy or even raw. But whatever. It's not like I gave into a craving. I gave into acid boiling around in my system and did not want to dry heave again.

So day 1/1/11 was fail. lol. Yes, I just felt like typing that. I'll try again today and hope it goes better. Although it's 4am and I can't sleep since my heart is still pounding.. but I want to do a SWF in the morning. Already drank my tea hours ago.

Hey there juicyjay~
My advice....put all the maple syrup in the drink and suck it up and get the SWF down in the morning. If you are not eliminating all the toxins, they could be hanging around making you feel like crap and without the sugars of the maple syrup you will have no energy. No reason to cut back really when you are not drinking enough as it is.

I myself gag on the SWF on occasion. I mixed mine this morning half asleep and put a bit too much salt in and some of it came back up. No matter, I got most of it down and will be more careful tomorrow.

Good luck and God bless!

Is it ok if the lemon pulp (i do not mean alot) gets in the tea or should I filter it?

On page 12 of the Master Cleanse Stanley Burroughs he states, "Blend a part of the lemon skin and pulp with the lemonade in a blender for further cleansing and laxative effect." He's basically implying that pulp could make for an effective cleanse. Though I don't use the blending method suggested here, I always use pulp in my lemonade but am not sure about putting pulp in the tea. MC Purist would probably say don't do it (adding pulp to the tea) but ultimately, it's up to you. My suggestion is that you add it to the lemonade and not the tea. But on the other hand, as long as you're not deviating from the ingredients of the cleanse, I say do what works for you.

I don't know if there's actually an official Master Cleanse "counter" but I inserted the information regarding my cleanse dates by going to the "USER CP" link in the green bar area above on the left. From there I simply edited my signature just as you would in an email. I hope this helps.

I started today. Tea last night and SWF this morning. The SWF went okay. Now I need to go make some lemonade.

I had a few moments of panic about not being able to eat. Food is such a habit for me, which is why I know I need to do this. But I am having a fair amount of anxiety. I'm going for 14 days this time because I want to work through some of my habits with food and get back on the right track-- mentally and physically. I did well until November and had to deal with a lot of stress and just stopped taking care of myself as well as I had been up until that point. Took a little tumble off of the wagon and now I am trying to climb back on.

I'm glad to have this board, because I know I'll need the support.

It is Sunday and it is Master Cleanse day one for me. Translation - holy crap. It only took 30 minutes after drinking the salt water flush before I started running to the bathroom. Go with more lemonade if you need it or even just want it some days. We are "allowed" 60-120 ounces so you are well within limits with 80. Some days your body may need more than others as it cleanses and heals - after all, this is our energy, protein, and nutrients we are drinking here :D

props to making it through NYE! I chose to start the day after to have a day of debauchery to end the year  Primary point is that lemon and MS are equal. Think the actual amount is two TEAspoons of each. (crud - I make mine with 3/4 cup of each so I don't remember if it is tea spoon or tablespoon!) Because this is our priomary energy and nutrient source - you really need to drink the six glasses. We need the calories to keep our basal metabolic rate even and to keep us functional aprticularly if exercise and physical activity is in play.

If you really have food addiction issues then reflection on them while cleansing is really helpful to bring them to light - are you journaling? Have anyone to talk them through with? You can always do it here if you are comfortable with the public forum. I think I have food issues too but they go away with each cleanse (I almost panicked at 8pm last night on day one when I realized I did not have my precleanse Chipotle fajita bowl... almost quit, went to get one, and started again today! Thinking I couldn't have that particular food for 28 days plus almost took me out. But made it through mainly because I was too lazy to get out of my PJs and go into the cold to drive to the restaurant with my NYE hangover and day one lethargy! LOL)

Hi there! Seems I remember talking with you about this, but not sure. FIrst and foremost - no FAIL! You are trying hard to do this for yourself. Anyone else never would have started after the first attempt. Did the board already review the caffeine withdrawl issues and possible alergy to any of the typical ingredients? Hope it works for you - there are a lot of experts on here and they will all do their best to help you find a solution (I do not consider myself one - just repeating most of what they say in case they are not around to do so because I feel so strongly about how great this has been for me) Don't suppose you have a doctor or naturopath to work with you?

I reckon this is more for me than for anyone else. sorry for getting long winded.

Day one down. doing ok.

I find that this morning I am a little shaky and my perception of things are a bit surreal. Had very short lived tingling in my upper arms. But I really think that I am "looking" for symptoms. Shower felt better than usual.

Yesterday I was not hungry at all and I found it difficult to get down all of the lemonade. In fact I fell short by 16 oz. Last night I still woke at about 3:00am. Isn't that the witching hour? So this morning I woke late and am worried about getting everything in.

The LAX tea didn't seem to work. I think it is because I ate in abundance the two days before starting the cleanse.

Just had the SWF and waiting on the effects. Yesterday there was no effect. I was worried about the amount of salt that I probably absorbed. But then again, we probably get at least that much in the food we eat. I did feel and hear a bunch of gurgling in my belly so something is working. in fact it is happening now.

So anyway, this morning I am not hungry. good thing there. Feeling more confident.

I was just thinking about Qwerty's headache. It sounds very similar to those I would get on the Atkins diet. The no carb headache. Then I would take 2 Advil Liquid gel caps and I would be good all day long.

What is the "site's" view of taking headache relief meds when they get really bad?

I admit to taking advil to get past the headache in the early days before I gave up caffeine. I was so sick I couldn't keep down water and it kept me on the cleanse so I vote yes. It was well worth and advil or four to gain the next 9 to 14 days clenasing! The SERIOUSLY hard core say you broke the cleanse, but the moderates say that you are still cleansing and helping your body, it just has to pause a minute to deal with the ibuprofen or other chemical digestion then it gets back to business. Personal opinion - take 'em if you need them to keep things going but work through it if you can. Take each day at a time maybe you will not need them after that first day or so.

Hope that helps!

I'm sure there's a conversation thread on Headaches, but to answer your question, nix to the Advil. It helps to recognize that when you're on a cleanse, you need to be kind to yourself. Take a short nap if it's called for. Drink more water. Put ice on your head. Only meds allowed on the MC are prescribed medicines, and some of us go off of all of that, too, during the cleanse. Headaches don't have to come from caffeine. I don't drink coffee, but I do suffer from migraines. So just let the pain come and work its way thru. It will be gone by the next morning's elimination, if not before then.

I woke up this morning with a terrible ache in my knee. I'd forgotten how the cleanse dredges up old wounds. I tore my meniscus a few years back. The aches you feel are the body's attempt to repair itself. I'm so happy my knee got some attention this morning!

Anyway, whoever has headaches, they're common with the Master Cleanse. Hang tough, unless the pain is so severe you can't handle it. Then you should probably take something ... and maybe get off the cleanse. If you dull the ache with a medicine, the body's healing won't be as thorough. Funny ... 'cause it's been nearly 2 years since my last cleanse and I could tell on the 1st day how my body has been rearranged and improved from prior cleanses. The benefits from a cleanse are LONG-LASTING, not 4-6 hours like with an Advil.

I don't mean to be harsh, just trying to be helpful. Congratulations are in order for everyone who even tries the Master Cleanse. And if you get this far, don't you want the maximum benefits? Just one gal's opinion.

Have a lemony day!

Aloha from rainy California!
I'm about to embark on my second attempt at The Master Cleanse. My first try was for 8 days...felt GREAT at day 7, and then on day 8, felt really sick..and freaked myself out and stopped. I was sick for another 2 weeks afterwards, so I hope I was just listening to my body and not bugging out on any actual detox.
I kept drinking coffee the first time around...and can see that I was kidding myself...so am in for the full ride this time, no coffee!
I start tomorrow....for 10 days. I'm hoping that talking about it every day will help :)

Hi Connie. Yeah, I'm pretty sure we did talk about this before. lol. Exactly what it is..caffiene withdrawl. I tried the MC in November and it was so bad that Advil didn't help but caffiene did! I decided to just clean up my diet and wean myself off the caffeine and I have. I drink it once or twice a week now instead of daily. I guess I should admit to drinking a crazy amount on New Years Eve. Some people drink alcohol...I drank a large of my favorite Starbucks drink..LOL But I made myself drink a gallon of water the rest of he day to get it out of my system faster. I did a mini fast in December for about a week. Then I quit and am back again to do a longer one.

Yesterday actually wasn't all that much of a fail. :D I actually lost 2lbs. I know water fluctuates and all but the thing is I had lost about 8lbs last month and the scale has been STUCK at the same 2 numbers for 2 weeks now and it was driving me crazy. xx1 and xx2. This morning it was at xx9. I can't type out the whole number. :o

And I had a good SWF this morning. A lot came out. Maybe the fiber I ate last night pushed out more because there was just a lot. At the end of the SWF the water was actually clear..just that bile junk. 5:24pm and so far no headaches. :)

Yeah, this topic has came up before. A few people have admitted to trying Advil. When you're desparate, you're desperate. There's also different kinds of headaches. Mine were excruciating to the point where I couldn't function. "kindness" like water, sleep, darkness+quietness were not helping. I felt like a heroin addict withdrawling from some hardcore drugs. The pain was just not going away. Yesterday, I put up with it for hours and ended up throwing up and felt worse. Eating helped and today I feel better and am back on the cleanse.

LOL)

Thanks for your comments. It helps to hear others have similar struggles. I went into the same panic yesterday about not being able to eat certain foods. I was snowed in and couldn't get my last fix of veggie potstickers before the cleanse and considered putting off the cleanse until I could get out and get them. The cleanse is the best way to get me back on track with my cravings but starting is the hardest part for me. I go through a lot of reflection throughout these cleanses.

...I felt like a heroin addict withdrawling from some hardcore drugs...

I joke about coffee being my heroin all the time! I have never done hard drugs, but I have smoked and done a LOT of caffeine. According to Mr Ozzy Osbourne, an avowed drug user, cigarettes were harder to quit than heroin and cocaine, and according to me, coffee is harder than cigarrettes (cigarettes were easy!) therefore coffee is harder than heroin! I don't think I've ever been so sick as that first cleanse day about 24 hours in my first time around. Best part about being off of caffeine - when you really need that wake up drug to drive or what ever(off the cleanse of course), it actually works!

My Plan is to start MC #2 on Tuesday 4th. I picked up my Lemons this morning, so I am committed. Lucky to find very large Lemons 33 cents each. I know I will get lots of juice from each one. Appetite is all over the place. For the past 2 days, I find myself eating things I don't normally eat
Rain has started in So Cal again, it's cold and that makes drinking water very difficult :(.

I hope everyone who is having a bit of a rough start, smooth out pretty soon:)

Good Luck to ALL

I absolutely do not want to slow you down - but if you are a coffee person and really consume a lot, I would seriously give thought to cutting out the coffee for a day or three before you start. It can be wicked with nothing to fight it with (no food or analgesic crutches that is). But if you are serious and are ready to go tomorrow - we'll be here!

I am just geting started for the first time on 1/1/11. My wife and I went shopping and ccould only find grade A Maple Syrup. My question is can Grade A work until I find Grade B?
Thank you

From all the research, Grade B is the only thing that has the adequate minerals that make the cleanse work.

Hi Connie! Glad you're here already!

I haven't gone through the board yet to see how many of us "regulars" are back this year. I'm looking forward to seeing all my lemonhead friends...and making new ones, too.

I started today, and am just taking it one day at a time, because I'm not feeling particularly motivated. My hard days are usually days 3 & 4. So I am a little nervous about having the will power to get to day 5. I feel like a blimp after all the holiday eating. So I'm reminding myself that in 3 days I will FEEL pretty again, and in 5 days I will LOOK pretty again. Did a spin class earlier, and now I'm going to go out and shovel more snow - that's a workout!

This is one of the first times I've bothered to weigh myself on the morning of day 1. It wasn't pretty, lol. But I'm expecting to see a big drop off tomorrow, now that my bowels are emptying out.

Whole Foods restocked on Balinese Sea Salt after not having it for about 6 months, so I am in HEAVEN. It is so much MILDER and TASTIER than any other sea salt I've tried!! So nice to have it back.

Best wishes to all and HAPPY NEW YEAR !

Hi everyone. I'm on Day 6 and so far it's going really well. I haven't felt hungry or the desire to cheat at all! However, I've been on holiday from work and haven't been out socialising since I started, so that is helping! Tomorrow I'm meeting a friend to go to the cinema, then on Tuesday it's back to work, eek! So things may get a little harder. Tomorrow I may be looking longingly at popcorn and ice cream... And then everyone's lunches in work the next day. However, I do NOT plan to give in, I want to keep doing this til I'm cleansed! I'm normally a raw foodist (though massively lapsed since November...) and I've got a blog, which I'm now posting about the master cleanse on if anyone is interested: http://rawtings.blogspot.com/
Hope everyone is doing well. Bed time for me. Night night! x

I totally agree with stopping the caffeine intake days in advance of your cleanse.!! Those headaches can feel like DEATH!! I started my cleanse on Saturday, Jan. 1st....I stopped my caffeine and dealt with the headaches on the previous Tuesday, December 28th. I did it this way because I was free to O/D on all the Advil I wanted in order to ease the pain. I wasn't on the cleanse yet. so this worked out really well for me. I'm at the end of Day 2, and not a headache or discomfort in sight! Live and Learn, huh?:)

I am a pretty heavy caffeine guy myself. However, I didn't get the memo to drop it before starting the cleanse. So, I have been sporting a two day long dull ache with intermittent sharp shots every now and then.

Today was funny. I found myself walking toward the kitchen every now and then to get a snack. Then I would catch myself and turn around. I'm thinking that most of my gnawing is related to boredom. I also went into town to get more lemons and a squeezer. I had this urge to pull into a fast food store. When at the grocery store getting the lemons I kept wanting to get something for me that was out of the recipe. It wasn't bad, but more interesting than anything else.

Well, good luck to everyone on the cleanse and starting the cleanse.

Onward!

Hey! That reminds me... what kind of lemon juicers do all of you have? I'm thinking of investing in a better one. My current juicer is kind of old school. I guess you would call it a press? You place the lemon half between the cone and a dome and turn a handle 180° to press out the juice. NOt hard to use, and quiet, but are there electric ones that are affordable and juice well? What kind to you get Jonesing?

I use a Braun electric juicer that cost me about $20. I bought it in 1994 or 1995. As you can tell, I think it's worth its weight in gold! I got it at Macy's in the kitchen appliances section. The last time I checked, they were still around $20 - $25, esp. now with after Christmas sales.
But I would like to have a convenient hand-held to keep at work in case I run out of lemonade....what brand is the one you're using and where did you get it?

Hi back attcha!

Am feeling a little more confident now that I'm done with day 1...go 30!!

I have spent the afternoon and evening in bed. First, shoveled snow, then took a nap. Then lay in bed with "the coldies" watching chic flicks and crying my eyes out: The Wedding Date, then The Notebook (:o), and now Enchanted. Silly movie, hopefully it will cheer me up after The Notebook. It's the last day of my vacation and I wanted to use it as non-productively as possible.

Only 2 days until I feel pretty...and actually my skin is looking better ALREADY! And my eyes look clearer, my face a little bit thinner. Viva La Master Cleanse!

This is end of day 4 and forward on to 14 as my goal. This is the 2nd time on the MC but no stranger to cleanses. I may go to 21 days. I'm doing good, no hunger or cravings and going by the book.
Concern a little about the high blood pressure but I will monitor that daily. I'll keep you posted.
By the way the Rife Ion foot baths take the edge off detoxing. :)

MC1 - Day 5
1st cleanse

I attended a kids party today replete with homemade pizza, fresh veggies, cake, and adult beverages for the adults, ALL of which I would have loved to dive into. After the initial attraction wore off, I kind of forgot about it. Amazing.

What's funny though is the kinds of foods I have been thinking about ... mostly pretty healthy! Hummus. Juiced fruit and veggies. Raw vegetables. I am leaning in general towards a raw / vegan diet, but I was thinking I'd be craving steak, chicken, etc., more. It's funny. I really can't wait to have a big chopped salad or a mediterranean platter.

But I will wait. Day five is a big hump. It seems like it's all downhill from here. Five days left and I've already done five days, so no surprises, right?

Viva La Master Cleanse!

My juicer is seriously old - probably 30 years or more? I think it is either a Ronco (King of the infomercials) or perhaps a Rowco (not quite as classy!). My husband won it in a "Price is Right" contest at a bar for his mother - he laughs every time he sees me using it... Thanks for sharing yours - anyone else has suggestions?

One fun thing about the mater cleanse - the 2 hours extra in the morning gives me "movie time" as well! So far I've screened Sex and the City 2 and Percy Jackson and the Olymipians... this morning it's Breakfast at Tiffany's!

Welcome to all the other folks - good to see Meedis again!

Hello.
I am having a VERY difficult time with the Salt Water Flush.
When I take it in the morning (I have taken it a few times during my attempt to do the MC),
I feel nauseous and I actually vomit some of it.
And it is a very bad feeling. My stomach is so sensitive to the SWF!

I was wondering if I could do the tea at night and in the morning.
This is the only problem I am having.

Question for Veterans:

Is it me or does the cleanse start working much faster the 2nd time around?

Just curious to see if anyone else is experiencing this???

I have been vomiting and my stomach has been so sensitive after taking it.
I do the tea at night.
Will it be okay to do the tea at night AND in the morning?

I have attempted two times already and this is now my third attempt: this Mon. the 3rd.
I took the tea last night and ended up doing the tea this morning as well.

Is anyone else doing the tea at night and in the morning?

um... STOP! That is Stop stopping right NOW!

did it work?

As with many things - you should sleep on it. Give respect to the you of two days ago who knew she could do this and hang in there. If you are in the UK, you already have a good bit of the day under your belt. Drink some lemonade - we can have a lot more than we allow ourselves - maybe a nice cup of peppermint tea (go ahead and slip a drop of maple syrup in there if you want, just cut back a bit on your next drink to play it safe and not feel like you're cheating, although someone will say this still is - it's about being able to continue with minimal upset folks), take a hot bath (or shower if that's not an option), curl up with a good book or movie or something entertaining, and then get a good nights sleep (after your senna tea of course!) YOU CAN DO THIS!

:D

Do what works for you. I aim for the SWF every day, but miss it occasionally if I get up too late or frankly if I'm just sick of it....

Burroughs lists it as an option so it's perfectly legal to do tea AM and PM. Maybe once you have a few days under your belt give it another go? There is a lot of advice on here about how to make it work, varying water temp, putting the salt in half the water then chugging the pure water right after (my personal choice), making sure you are using the best salt (no anticaking agent - HUGE difference), etc.

There is some logic to the theory that the tea stirs thing up and the SWF rinses them out, but our bodies work pretty well on their own - we are just giving them a boost here. Not doing the cleanse at all versus doing it with no SWF - I say go for it.

It's good seeing you again too C Mack and also I see Lahotani is back as well.

I finished drinking the salt water and just waiting for it to do its magic. For some reason it doesn't seem like the laxative tea is working as well as it used to. Normally within 6 hours I'll feel something brewing in my stomach. But this morning....nothing. One thing that does work at least is the SWF. That should hopefully take affect in another 20 minutes or so.

Thank you! I appreciate it! DAY 1 is here today!
I will forge on: I guess I felt like a failure not doing the SWF.
I will do the tea for the first few days, see how it goes.
And may just continue with the tea, may try to do SWF on some days.
I tried it last week and it was just a very upset feeling and I can't afford to feel this way

GlamourBabeUK - I know how hard it is...what helped me get through some tough eating times, was just telling myself "I know what that tastes like, I can wait to eat it when I am done doing something healthy for me"...it always worked! I DID know what it tasted like...so I could just remember the taste, and move on.
A.Smiles - the SWF has GOT to be important...no other reason to have salt water come rushing out of your body like a freight train! I read online to heat up the water, add your salt, and add a little lemon juice to it. I do it in 2 large ceramic cups, down one, burp, and down the next. I try to tell myself that it is like drinking warm lemon drop soup....so far it has worked and have kept it down every time.
Mahalo everyone and happy cleansing!! ;)

[QUOTE=Meedis;85172] For some reason it doesn't seem like the laxative tea

Hello all! I'm on the morning of Day 3. I have had some issues with the SM tea as well this time around. I'm wanting to chalk it up to all the heavy foods I ate before the cleanse (it was the holidays, after all). For the past 3 nights the tea has done nothing for me. I've prepared myself to be woken up bright and early, but nothing. Sleeping in until normal. Weird. Anyone else experience this? What's it about? Should I steep my tea longer? Add another bag?

So far so good. I have a lot more mental clarity this time around. The first time I occasionally doubted if I could complete the MC. This time I know I can do it and I know I'm going to be REALLY happy with my results!

I also use an automatic juicer. It's a little loud when I'm preparing my lemonade at 5:00 a.m., but it's quick and there's less waste. I bought it before my first cleanse last year at Wal Mart for like $15.

MC 3 Day 1

My first two cleanses weren't very successful so I'm hoping to do better this time around. I won't be doing the SWF in the AM b/c I can't keep it down so I'll be doing the laxative tea twice a day.

So far today is going really well, no cravings. Hopefully I can end the day this way.

Concern a little about the high blood pressure but I will monitor that daily. I'll keep you posted.
By the way the Rife Ion foot baths take the edge off detoxing. :) My blood pressure goes down on the cleanse and afterwards. A few cleanses ago there was someone who had serious high blood pressure concerns and was monitoring herself several times a day. She had no problems and her blood pressure was improved by the end of the cleanse. If I remember correctly, she did longer than just 10 days, but I don't remember all the details.
What is a Rife Ion foot bath, how much do they cost, and where do you find them? I find epsom salt baths to be a life-saver on tough days!

Hey Everyone! I just finished drinking my first smooth move tea of ten. So that means I'm officially starting my 9th cleanse later today. I was hoping to do it yesterday but I needed another day to get myself ready. Look forward to frequenting the board and seeing old and new friends along the way.
Happy 2011!!!! Another year is here....time flies too fast.
MEEDIS !! Hello, happy new year! and welcome back.
Hello again, too, to HealthyBiz, JeZzGuH, & Mtmouse!!

Day five is a big hump. It seems like it's all downhill from here. Five days left and I've already done five days, so no surprises, right?:p Heh, heh, heh. 8) (Read with tone of wicked witch's evil laugh.) The master cleanse always has surprises waiting for you....
But hang in there, we're here for you! I find the first 4 days to be the hardest, then you get into a mental "cleanse mode" that makes it much easier...but there are still detox days that will ambush you. Be very nurturing to yourself on those days, and know that its really WORTH it.

Ok someone stop me from breaking my cleanse....I don't know why I am finding it so hard this time round. I am only on day 2. Today I realised how much I comfort eat. Not good. :-( As said above, the first few days are the hardest. Take it easy on yourself. Don't expect to get the usual stuff done - forget your to-do list, or cut it down to just 1 or 2 items. Watch movies on DVD (no food commercials), take a long epsom salt bath, go to bed early.

Is it me or does the cleanse start working much faster the 2nd time around? Yesterday was Day 2 for me and I had a significant amount of mucus in my elimination already. I'M TOO EXCITED! :D
Just curious to see if anyone else is experiencing this???
I don't remember if it went faster the 2nd time but it definitely starts working faster for me now. My skin already has that Master Cleanse glow that used to take me til day 5 to achieve. Now, the lemonade seems like an old friend, when I start drinking it again. Not QUITE comfort food, but nearly. :p

Help! I can do the MC with no problem EXCEPT the SWF!
I have been vomiting and my stomach has been so sensitive after taking it.
I do the tea at night.
Will it be okay to do the tea at night AND in the morning?
Is anyone else doing the tea at night and in the morning? I strongly recommend that you get at least one of the two books - either the original "The Master Cleanser" by Burroughs, or Glickman's "Lose Weight, Have More Energy, and Be Happier in 10 Days." It is outlined very clearly in both that is IS ok to do tea morning and night, but that it is NOT as effective. Before going to 2x the teas, go read the SALT WATER FLUSH thread on this board. On the same page as the one you click to get to the "What day are you on..." thread (this thread) is one for the Salt Water Flush. On there are hints and tricks for making it work for you.

FOR ALL NEWBIES - PLease check the Bulletin Board start page for a thread on your question, to see if it hasn't already been answered many times over. We're always happy to answer questions here - but this thread is more of a place for emotional support, since so many technical questions are already answered elsewhere on this board. Sometimes it's hard to find the info you're looking for in this website's set-up - plus there's a lot of info on here....so I'm not scolding anyone...just trying to help you navigate the site to your best advantage. :) Of course, if you just can't find the answer on this board, this is the best thread to use to get the quickest possible response....Please be wary of other Master Cleanse websites, blogs, etc., as they often have misinformation.

One of my favorite mantras is "No one is going to forget the recipe in 10 days." As a result, the food commercials for "limited time only" specials are the hardest on me, lol!
I lived in Costa Mesa for a few years, and in Newport Beach. My two oldest kids were born at Hoag.

For some reason it doesn't seem like the laxative tea is working as well as it used to. Normally within 6 hours I'll feel something brewing in my stomach. But this morning....nothing.
Sleeping in until normal. Weird. Anyone else experience this? What's it about? Should I steep my tea longer? Add another bag? I've noticed that the last 2 boxes of regular laxative tea did not seem to be as strong as usual. The chocolate laxative tea seemed the same. I used to be able to get 2 nights use out of one tea bag, but not anymore. I'm thinking that Traditional Medicinals got some feedback on Smooth Move being too strong and causing painful cramps, and so diluted the amount of senna in the blend? Just a guess, as they don't list the ratios of herbs in the tea.

-----

Starting day 2. Lost 5 1/4 lbs. yesterday. I was expecting that, or more, since I really pigged out on New Year's Day. Hopefully, I'll lose another big chunk of weight today. Going back to work later, :o , hope they don't have too many left over Christmas goodies to tempt me.

Good luck to all and be strong! Soon we'll be into the easy part!

Please check out the Salt Water Flush thread for tips on how to make it work. Be certain you are using TEASPOONS, not tablespoons. Most people who can't keep it down were making that mistake. I recommend Balinese Sea Salt available at Whole Foods (in the bulk section). It is much milder than most, and very flavorful.

Welcome to Day 3 for me :D Doing awesome

C Mack, I use a good old-fashioned hand squeezer. I bought just recently too, at Bed Bath & Beond. I'm wondering if I will get more juice per lemon if I go electric or continue my current method. Believe me, by the time I'm done with those lemons, you couldn't even squeeze a fart outta them. I leave them pretty bone dry. LOL!

I took the tea last night and ended up doing the tea this morning as well.

A Smiles, I am currently doing teas only, and trying to do SWF on weekends. So far, the tea is doing a fabulous job.!! I combine Organic laxative tea with Vitamin Shoppe's "Get It Moving", teas, and they work great!

My Cleanse officially starts tonight with the Lax Tea, which I have regularly anyway. Since I don't have a good relationship with the SWF, and I also have an early and long day planned out of the house tomorrow morning, I did a SWF this morning. Luckily I did, because 2.5 hrs later, it has just started to work
Large Salads with Black Beans and Avocados; Veg Soup with Tofu later, and my refrigerator should 'Cleanse ready'. Freezer stuffed with things that may perish before the end of this cleanse. No tempting foods laying around....I AM READY ;).

I am looking forward to joining you all tomorrow for my official Day 1.

The only thing I see that would be an advantage on the (inexpensive) ones I searched online is that a few have set ups for different size fruit (lime and grapefruit NOT being equal!) and also for the amount of pulp you would like... right now it is one size fits all and for the oranges and grapefruit at the end it is a disaster! Perhaps I will check them out at Target later where I am going to buy an ELECTRIC BLANKET! WOO HOO! Cannot wait to get wrapped up in that to banish those coldies away! :D

....I AM READY ;).

Yea! "See" you soon!

Hey y'all - I see some familiar names here!

It's day 1 for me and I'm already worthless at work. :( I sit here getting moody and procrastinating and not getting anything done. Some of the work I need to do is outside my usual comfort zone, so it's normal to be a little apprehensive - but it always seems like the first few days on LA makes me feel paralyzed emotionally. I just need to jump in and do it

I want this one to be a long one cause I need it so bad.... the allergies were returning, indigestion, moodiness, attention issues, bad breath, BO , ...not to mention a lot of holiday weight gain - as in anniversary, birthday, halloween, birthday, birthday, thanksgiving, birthday, christmas...whew

But I already started having evil thoughts at about 9:30 this morning! Wasn't even on it long enough to start getting headachy. I took a break and did a hot bath and that made me feel better but it was just the start of my work procrastination, sigh.

Still sticking with it though. AND remembering to drink water along with the LA (made that mistake last time)

So - now that I got all that off my chest, maybe I get dive in and get some work done! 8)

Hello everyone,

I am starting my cleanse today January 3rd and hope to complete the 10 days. I've done the cleanse once before and made it to 5 days, so I'm hoping to go longer this time since I already know what to expect.

I began last night with my smooth moves tea and did a sea salt flush this morning, and I've already began drinking my tea. I wish the best of luck to everyone , so lets do this!

LOL Katlady. You are in good company for a long Cleanse. Getting started we all face apprehensions, but once it's started we're okay.
Good Luck:)

Sandra, Welcome. We will support you to the 10-day minimum. Getting started is the most important, and sometimes most difficult part.
All the BEST:)

I use Get Regular and it worked faster on me than it has in previous cleanses. Not sure why, usually it takes 6 or so hours but my body responded last night in about 3 hours. The night before is worked in about 4 or so hours. Last night it might have been because I did yoga in the evening that was specifically focused on digestion. I guess I'll find out tonight. I found the Smooth Move way too strong for me, but maybe I will try it if it's not as strong. I didn't know they made a chocolate version.

I'm getting through Day 2 with ups and downs. I feel great one moment and then achy and blah the next. This time around my nephews are staying with me and I've never had others in the house eating while I've been on this cleanse. We'll see how it goes. It hasn't bothered me yet--even though they enjoy trying to entice me with their food. :)

Hi Sandra,
you seem to have gotten some misinformation. You don't do the salt water flush AND the senna tea in the morning. The senna tea is for last thing at night. The Salt water flush is ALL you need in the morning. Some people SUBSTITUTE a 2nd senna tea instead of the SWF if they don't have time for a full flush in the morning, or if they cannot stomach the SWF in spite of their best efforts (rare - if you work on the tricks and tips, almost everyone CAN get accustomed to it). The peppermint tea is not an everyday thing - it is an occasional treat on days that are tough for you, like cold mornings when you don't want to drive to work in a snow storm, but can't have coffee as your comfort food.
Not doing 2 x the senna tea should make the cleanse just that much easier for you! :)

I'm sucking down some lemonade to see if that helps. Have already had the headaches start. I have a lot of cleansing to do! I made it all 10 days last time and am hoping to make it a little longer this time. I haven't set an exact number of days to do, just going to listen to my body.

Day: 21

My first 'food dream' was of eating grapes.
Next it was crisps!
Last night i dreamed I ate a small slice of carrot.

Does anyone else dream of food? perhaps its the body saying what it wants.

I'm going ok, glad christmas and all that is out the way. Been rushing about today trying to find maple syrup as my stocks ran out, I actually think I spend more on this cleanse then i usually do on general food (im pretty skint most of the time). Anway, brought some more syrup but want more agave instead, wil get that tomorrow when the health store opens.

Tonight after my last load of lemon drinks I had a kind of stomach ache, like i might be sick or needed a big BM but did neither. Unsure what thats about, there's a lot of gurgling going on; I had to mix up the lemonade at the roadside so perhaps i used too much lemons, syrup or pepper.

Would really like to see some 'mucoid plaque' in the BM that some people report off, but understand this is not so common.

I' gave my stomach a massage yesterday after the SWF , really swooshed around the salt water and could feel/hear it whooshing about. I was hoping to free up any debris.

Anyway, days are rolling by pretty fast. Would love to buy a 'dehydrator' when I finish, I f*****g love dried mango, its like a fruity jerky, a mango jerky but they're too expensive to buy a lot off. But to make my own would be great!

ps - i seem to have the taste of almonds my mouth

Hi everyone...new and old. Mid-day check point for me (well closer to evening I guess)...so far I've downed 4 glasses of limade with some extra water. I've noticed that within 30 minutes of drinking the drink I have a slight BM (in 3 out of the 4 drinks). This is similar to what happened during MC8 for my first couple days. I felt slightly faint and had a bit of leg pain early afternoon but that went away in a few minutes. At least I'm off work today so I was able to relax some, just running to the store to get more water.

Tomorrow is my office day....yuck! But I get to work from home Wednesday and Thursday (barring any emergency meetings I have to attend in person or Internet issues at home), so that'll be good.

Hang in there juicyjay....probably the last words you want to hear but you're near the end goal. I admit the limade does get boring towards the end....maybe you could mix things up a bit....switch between lemons and limes....maybe use both.....switch between agave and maple syrup to change the taste up a bit.

You can keep going!

Switch to limes? Perhaps that will be less boring if you switch it up...?

13 pounds is good for 8 days if you ask me (which technically you didn't!) I usually only lose 7 or 8 in 10 days. Hoping to drop 15 in the next 28 (but won't complain if I drop more!) I have about 30 to lose so that is not my issue. Mainly I hope to hit some extra detox past day 10... If you've made it this far you can do 2 more :)

Also, in addition to the lemonade, we are still recommended to drink 1/2 oz water for every pound of body weight - the extra water makes a big difference in weight loss I'm told.

Word on the street is that the cravings indicate that detox is happening... that as you crave certain foods you are "shedding" the bad things stored from eating them. Chug down more water and or lemonade. Stay strong!

Day 1--I started my ease in period on the 1st of January. I did my lax tea last nite, prepped my lemonade and went to bed. I didn't sleep too well, but then I never do Sunday to Monday. This morning I did my normal work-out (T-tapp Advanced Workout followed by a brisk walk), guzzled the SWF, too a shower and off to work I went. I think I'll take the first day off from now on, because that was a close call. I hadn't quite "percolated" when left home, but about half way through my commute the rumblings started. I'm glad that traffic moved this morning (no pun intended) and I made it to work unscathed in more ways that one.:D

I'm not feeling hungry, I'm just craving chocolate for some reason, and I keep smelling onions being browned in butter.

Finishing up Day 5 with my last lemonade. Yummy. I make it in a warm mug - it's so cold outside! brrrr... Pretty uneventful; only a few moments of hunger.

The only thing I don't like so much, this time around, is the Lax Tea. I used to love the taste. It's pretty awful this time around. And I don't like the cramps I get with it. I think I'd eliminate pretty well without it, but ... I've always used it and I want the best out of my cleanse, so I'll find a way to get it down tonight.

I've got a busy day tomorrow visiting clients, so I'm bringing my lemonade with me and *hope* my morning eliminations are all done by the time I have to leave home.

Happy cleansing to all out there. :)

I guess I am ready to start. Will have my Lax Tea in a few minutes. Dumped a Hard-Boied Egg, and an Apple in the trash because I could not eat anymore. Diet Sodas goes in the trunk of my car tomorrow morning. My house will then be Cleanse ready.
Doing the Cleanse when the temperatures are so low seem crazy, because I am always so cold during the Cleanse. The only benefit I see for doing a Cleanse now, besides Detoxing, it consuming lots of Vit C from the Lemons and staving of the Winter Flu.
I plan to workout during this Cleanse (if possible ;)), hoping for at least a 10 lb loss

Yes folks, I post when I am anxious :o

As I got headaches real bad last time, I want to detox by not drinking coffee for a week before I start. We also will be joining a gym this week so I will use that extra time of not eating to exercise as I usually have so much energy. Looking forward to taking this adventure with everyone!

. I found the Smooth Move way too strong for me, but maybe I will try it if it's not as strong. I didn't know they made a chocolate version. I actually prefer it weak. I hated using straight senna, and I had gotten in the habit of using the Smooth Move teabag over 2 days to keep it from giving me cramps. The only thing that bothers me about the company diluting it is that now it will cost me twice as much in tea bags to get the same results.

hi, happy new year to you all, this is my third day of this cleanse, i hope to do it for forty days, i am new to this but i need to do this.
Any encouragement will be gladly welcomed, what herbal teas am i allowed to drink? - if any that is.Welcome! This is the place for encouragement, all right! Just keep logging in and telling us how you're doing. You're allowed to drink pure peppermint tea, on occasion...not as an every day thing. That's it. Sometimes when I really want to chew something, I make strong peppermint tea and freeze it into ice chips. :D

My first 'food dream' was of eating grapes. Next it was crisps! Last night i dreamed I ate a small slice of carrot.
Does anyone else dream of food? perhaps its the body saying what it wants.
Tonight after my last load of lemon drinks I had a kind of stomach ache, like i might be sick or needed a big BM but did neither. Unsure what thats about, there's a lot of gurgling going on; I had to mix up the lemonade at the roadside so perhaps i used too much lemons, syrup or pepper.
ps - i seem to have the taste of almonds my mouth I don't know what the almond taste is about - that's a new one to me. But I often get a stomach ache if I use too much cayenne. Please note that, unlike the other ingredients, the cayenne can be adjusted "to taste." So put in less if you need to.
A lot of people have food dreams on the cleanse. It is definitely NOT your body WANTING those foods...no body really wants you to eat CRISPS. It's either toxins being removed in your sleep (that came from the crisps in the first place (or pesticides that were on the carrots, etc.) or just your brain wanting junk as comfort food.

I'm glad that traffic moved this morning (no pun intended) and I made it to work unscathed in more ways that one.:D Goodness! You tried driving before you'd finished flushing?! I'm guessing you're not going to make that mistake again!! People generally have to make extra time in the morning to get the SWF completely out of the way before heading out for the day. The good news is that many people find they need less sleep on the cleanse (after the first few days), so you'll have extra time in the morning from waking up earlier!

I guess I am ready to start. Will have my Lax Tea in a few minutes. Dumped a Hard-Boied Egg, and an Apple in the trash because I could not eat anymore. Diet Sodas goes in the trunk of my car tomorrow morning. Hope you live somewhere that the sodas won't freeze in your trunk and explode.... It's supposed to be 4 degrees (above) tonight where I live, so I know it sure wouldn't work for me. It's been a year and a half since I last had soda - that's the poison that ruined my digestive system so badly that I ended up getting leaky gut syndrome. Just throw the poison OUT !!

Hi everyone! I am excited again to be doing the MC for the 11th time. I just love it!! My husband and I will be starting next week. As I got headaches real bad last time, I want to detox by not drinking coffee for a week before I start. We also will be joining a gym this week so I will use that extra time of not eating to exercise as I usually have so much energy. Looking forward to taking this adventure with everyone! Hi Honey, good to see you again. Welcome back!

I'm hoping to make it past day three where the real magic lies....ahhhh...hanging in there!!!!!!! .

This board has helped so much, thank you.

Good morning day four!

I am in heaven after a delightful evening of sleeping under my new ELECTRIC BLANKET - coldies be gone! awesomeness acheived :D [and the cat likes me best now LOL]

For those that care about these thing for comparison I am down just two pounds after three days.

SWF is going down so well this time - so glad!

Have a great day lemonheads!

Day 2 for me is starting. Finished the SWF this morning and letting nature take its course. Today's my office day today so have to prepare my drinks for the day ahead of time. I will try using less cayenne today as that may be what's triggering my BMs during the day. I currently use close to 1/4 teaspoon.

Here's hoping for a good day today for us all.

Good Morning Everyone!

Today had a much better start than yesterday. We put some extra blankets on the bed because I was freezing last night and we don't like turning the heat above 63 overnight. That helped a lot. Slept well and woke at 4 to start the SWF. No problems with that today and had a good morning. I am a tad cranky, but that seems to be lifting now.

Got in my T-Tapp last night and 10 mins of rowing. Will row this evening and then pop off to my weekly T-Tapp class. It is a good workout for getting things in balance and flowing.

Will probably have my first LA at 8 am. Have a good one today folks!

Starting my cleanse tomorrow. Taking the eating real easy today. Instead of my usual 2 coffees this morning, I'm going to drink caffeinated tea. Hopefully this will be an easy transition into the next 10 days of no caffeine (I am an addict, I usually start off the cleanse with a day of terrible headaches).

One question: My father wants to go on the cleanse tomorrow as well, but he recently came down with bronchitis and is taking antibiotics. Should he wait until he's done with the drugs? Or can he start with them?

Thanks, and best to all you lemonheads! Way to start the new year clean!!!

Day 3 for me. The end of Day 2 was tough. I started feeling light-headed and ungrounded last night-- in addition to having crazy swings from feeling flushed and hot to super cold. I woke this morning feeling sluggish and dreading the SWF. I can't shake the sluggish feelings off. Yesterday wasn't too bad, so maybe this is my crappy day and I will feel better tomorrow. It's not even that I want to eat. I'm just feeling unfocused and wanting to hide out. Ugh! I hope that this feeling passes soon. Anyway, I hope everybody else's day is going well.

Jeliza, where to you find the "Get Regular" tea?

It's made by Yogi Tea and it's in the natural food section of my grocery store. Hopefully, you can find it. It's pretty gentle on my system, which is why I like it. Last night it seemed to go back to the usual way it works for me, so it was much better.

Italichic, In regard to your Dad starting MC while on ABx. I think he should wait, (1) The digestive system seem to be emptying at random times, the Medication may not have enough time to be fully absorbed. (2) The Cleanse wipes out the normal good Bacteria from our Colon, some/most ABx does the same thing which often leads to Candida/Yeast growth.

Best to both of you on the Cleanse

Day 1 of Cleanse #2.
I am skipping the daily SWF, opting for the Lax Tea twice. Will do the SWF occasionally though.
So far I've only had my Tea. I like to allow at least an hour between the Lax Tea and my first LA. Wondering how different my LA will be this time using AN versus MS.
Having 1st day anxiety, so I will be perusing these Boards regularly today :o

Wishing everyone a great MC Day

Day 2 for me :)

I'm still fuzzy headed and emotional but I made it over the hump. it was a looong day. When I got up this morning I thought it must be friday by now..

Man, it's so hard to focus. I have to keep telling myself to just look at the list and do the next one...go go go

Last night I had a lot of lower back soreness - sort of burning feeling. Made it hard to sleep. But seems to be gone today.

I don't usually get all cranky like this till I'm getting detox symptoms - maybe I'm hitting it early this time.

gotta go squeeze some lemons...

Wow, things are movely along nicely now. My pre-cleanse caffeine withdrawal is pretty much history and except for being kind of cranky this morning, I'm doing well. I am a little flighty as far as work goes....need some more mental clarity :p

Work through those nasty detox stages....they don't last forever

The longest cleanse I have ever done was 14 days which was awesome. I did it in Jan/Feb when there were not all these events. I will go back and read the posts around Thanksgiving, but if anyone would like to add anything about how you were able to stay cleansing, I think that would really help me. There is always something...and on the one hand it feels like a cop out to me when I stop cleansing so I want to get past that and do what is in my own best interests!

Hello everyone! Just checking in, it's day 6 of 10! Yay! Feeling good, have been hungry but nothing I can't handle. Only lost 3 pounds, which is odd to me since I have a lot to lose, but it's fine. I'm doing this to re-motivate me to eat healthy, as my food choices had gotten quite out of control.

I LOVE this board, and read it throughout the day for encouragement!

Have a great lemony day!!

Today is my Day 3. Lost 2 more lbs. yesterday for a total of 7 1/4. It should taper off now that the most recent Christmas cookie & pumpkie pie fat has been dispatched. Am feeling better already. Fortunately there were no left-over Christmas goodies at work yesterday, like there were last year!

I concur with Benni and recommend that your Dad wait until he has finished his meds. The body perceives ANYTHING non-nutritive as a toxin, including medicine. So, on a detox fast, his body would have extra time and energy to remove the toxin of his antibiotics faster than usual - they might not stay in his system long enough to be effective. As a further cautionary note: my ex-husband died last year of complications with bronchitis...so treat bronchitis with the respect it deserves, and knock that sucker outta there.
As for the caffeine addiction - I'm a coffee addict. I've managed to cut out sodas. I haven't had ANY headaches this time (and one other cleanse, too) because I started making my coffee with half regular and half decaf. I started out with 3/4 regular and 1/4 decaf, now I'm at 1/2 & 1/2. I'm hoping at the end of this cleanse to go for 1/4 regular and 3/4 decaf. I often use an herbal blend called Teechino instead of decaf coffee. It really helps me.

Day 2 for me :)
I'm still fuzzy headed and emotional but I made it over the hump. it was a looong day. When I got up this morning I thought it must be friday by now..
Man, it's so hard to focus. I have to keep telling myself to just look at the list and do the next one...go go go.. As you get further into the cleanse you will achieve focus and clarity better than you have off the cleanse. It is one of the reasons we veteran cleansers KNOW that this is GOOD for us, despite all the negative feedback from friends and relatives who have never tried it. Hang in there, and take it easy on yourself...make shorter lists...go to sleep early. :)

The longest cleanse I have ever done was 14 days which was awesome. I did it in Jan/Feb when there were not all these events....If anyone would like to add anything about how you were able to stay cleansing, I think that would really help me. There is always something...and on the one hand it feels like a cop out to me when I stop cleansing so I want to get past that and do what is in my own best interests! At some point on or after day 5, I get into "cleansing mode" where it feels easy and natural to be fasting, not something I have to actively think about. I start off telling myself that I only HAVE to make it through 10 days, and 10 days out of 365 is nothing. Once at day 10, any further days are completely voluntary. I set small goals like - going 4 more days to make a total of 14. Once at 14, I re-assess, and set another small goal - like making it to 20, or making it until next Saturday...whatever. I often have the big goal (30 days) in the back of my mind, but I keep telling myself that it's only if I WANT to go that far - I do better when I don't feel any pressure (like "I'll never be attractive again unless I do 40 days"). :p

Day 2! The Lax Tea woke me up today at 4:00 this morning so I just did my SWF then. I started out feeling great today but now I'm exhausted and fuzzy. I can't seem to focus here at work. Looking forward to getting these first few days over with. At least no headaches yet today. And I did lose 4 lbs from yesterday to today (yay!) Starbucks addict here!! What I did, was to stop drinking coffee at least 3 days before I even started the cleanse. This way I was able to load up on the Advils whenever I wanted. By the 3rd day all headaches and all traces of my caffeine withdrawal symptoms were gone, so I was able to enter into my cleanse without that being an issue. Day 4, and to date I have not had one single headache!!:D

I'm soon to be going on the Master Cleanse for the first time. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the SWF but I really want to try it to be able to get the full effect of the cleanse. Unfortunately, I don't really have time to sit over a toilet for an hour and a half in the mornings. :) Does it work the same way if I do the SWF in the evenings when I can and the laxative tea in the mornings?

Benni
January 4th, 2011, 03:04 PM
@Jennifar. I am not sure if you are looking for ways to do a longer Cleanse. That I believe come from the desire to do so. Setting a 30 or 40 day goal at the onset can seem intimidating for some. Set a realistic goal to begin with, with the intent to add to it as you go along. Of course coming here for motivation and support is always helpful.
Whether we're doing the MC for Detox or Weight loss, we can all use friendly words of encouragement. A cyber pat on the back, kudos, or "you can do it" goes a long way :)

I am not sure if you have access to any MC Books (if that is what you need). Here is a pdf I hope you may find helpful

Do you wean yourself off coffee by adding decaf during the cleanse? or before? BETWEEN cleanses. You can't do coffee during the cleanse. And doing it just before a cleanse is only a temporary measure. I want to get off the caffeine for life, but it's hard, so I've been working on cutting down the amount of caffeine, but not the amount of coffee for about 8 or 9 months now. I tried going straight to decaf or teechino (which is delicious) but just couldn't make it cold turkey like that. If I can handle the 3/4 decaf, 1/4 caffeine mix, I just might stay there instead of going all the way. It depends on my eyes. Too many days in a row of caffeine and the whites of my eyes start to turn red.

And i know you all have suggested switching to limes but its the maple syrup thats getting to me!! Just 2 more days....but then theres the ease out so you have to add that and I just want real food!! GOishfuioahsofiujauf! You can use raw Agave Nectar instead of maple syrup. Available in health food stores, or the health food section of bigger grocery stores. Burroughs says you can use Cane juice, too, but it's hard to find. Trader Joe's has a blend of Maple Syrup, Agave, & Cane Juice, which I LOVE - for only about $2.50 a bottle.

HEY! How did you know my plans for the evening!? I have not slept well the past two nights but have not been tired either until about an hour ago (why so much energy already! LOL) I had planned a yoga class for tonight with an instructor I like, but just found out there is a sub. Since I haven't been to yoga since LAST January's cleanse  , I think I'll wait until the instructor I know to be kind and nurturing is in the house.... because I am likely to be a mess. I look forward to diving under my electric blanket upon arrival at home.

I'd say go Buckeyes - but not sure if there are any other college football fans in the house... Or at least the right kind of college football fans!

If I throw out an O-H is there anyone to back me up?

Have a great evening. Keep on squeezing!

Thanks, and best to all you lemonheads! Way to start the new year clean!!!

Your Dad should wait until he's done with his antibiotics. The antibiotics should also be taken with a good dose of probiotics because they wreak havoc on the bodies good bacteria. The last time I took an antibiotic my naturopath had me on a hefty dose of probiotics for 3 weeks after I'd finished taking them. Also the body is getting healthier on the cleanse but his immune system is already weakened. Detoxing can weaken the immune system as well so that's a double whammy. I'd tell him to wait to be done with the antibiotics, take probiotics while taking the antibiotics and make sure that the bronchitis entirely disappears before starting. I'm no doctor but if his doctor is open minded it wouldn't hurt to ask his/her opinion. I got the swine flu my 2nd cleanse and did stick out the cleanse for 8 days but was told to cut it short because of my immune system being low. He can always join you when he's done and you never know. Maybe you'll extend your cleanse. Best!

I'll be here - my plan is for 28 days with a nice weekend fast breaking schedule... we can encourage each other! I keep telling myself 28 days, 28 days... if I try to say 10 and we'll see, then I will only do 10. This process is so much about discipline and control. The way my brain is wired I do not think I could trick myself into adding on! It is like a promise I make with myself: if we are doing 28 - then we're doing 28!

On my 3rd fast.

Almost at the end of day 1. Feels like an old friend. No averse reaction so far. Hoping this will help me reset after the holidays and get on track to clean up and transition into a weight loss plan that gets me where I want to be by October for our trip to Italy - 30th wedding anniversary in Jun!

I'll see how I feel after 10 days and go from there. Thinking of doing another long one that allows me to continue focusing on healthy habits on the exit and get back into exercise routine again.

On the road on business, so there my be some challenges not to cave - but I don't think I'll have any trouble even if I have to make up some excuses to beg off the typical invites to lunches and dinners, etc. Nice to be in a suite type of hotel. Handy having the kitchen to keep and prep. Very convenient.

Glad to see this site is still up and running.

Hey all! End of Day 4 here. I can't believe how much easier this has been the 2nd time around. I don't know if it's because I'd been preparing for it mentally for so long or what, but it's truly been a breeze. I went back to work today and even joined my coworkers when they ate lunch. Honestly, the food they ordered was not appetizing to me at all (nachos stacked sky high, burgers, bbq sandwiches) and I just sipped my lemonade like a champ. :D

I am hoping my tea will kick in tonight. It still has not woken me up any of the nights. It's a bit frustrating because I know how beneficial those eliminations are.

My goal this time is 14 days. I will see when I get to 14 if I want to add more days. I feel like if I set a goal for more than that I wouldn't see an end in sight and possibly risk failing. I am better at convincing myself to take it one day further once I reach a goal. But that's just me.

Also, as mentioned earlier, if you do not have an electric blanket, you should get ahold of one! I curled up under mine this morning at 5:30 and watched Intervention on DVR with the cat at my feet. It's a wonderful feeling!

And no offense, but I'd like to see Ohio go 0-10 against the SEC tonight. :p

Happy squeezing all!

Not sure how I feel about the AN yet. My Lemonades have been very bland. Not sure if the Lemons are just not tart, or if the AN just gives the Lemonade an entirely different flavor. I will have to taste the Lemons tomorrow, before mixing.

Hi JeZzGuH - I'm having a hard time pronouncing your name! lol ;) I agree! with so much of what you said. Yes, I need an electric blanket! I have one somewhere, but this is southern California, where it's normally warm, and I don't know where to look in the back of my closets. We're having a real cold snap - just to make sure I'm aware that I'm on the Master Cleanse. ha. And I love being around food during a cleanse. I'm not tempted to eat, but I love the smell of good foods. My husband is in the kitchen steaming cauliflower and it smells like heaven to me. And, yes, it's easier each time I do the cleanse.

But I gotta say ... the tea kicked my butt last night. Surely that's not what you're looking for. Eliminations were great, but they woke me up at 3 am! :o I was up until nearly 5 am with a busy day today. The cramps and such normally wait until a decent hour - maybe 5 or 6 am, when I don't mind getting up. Did you really mean you wanted to get up in the middle of the night like that? Not sure. I don't think that's happened to me b4. I'm feeling great today, even tho' sleep deprived. But the tea only took about 3-4 hours to kick in, not overnight like usual (for me, at least).

Day 6 is ending relatively peaceably.

Off to the gym, then home to bed.
'night all!

Ha! My name is Jessica but my dad sometimes pronounces it like "Jezzguh". It's always been an odd nickname.

And I do mean that I want to get up for nightly eliminations from the tea. So far my only eliminations have come from the SWF. I just remember last time when I would get up it wasn't uncomfortable, but more of a relief when I would have to get up to go. It's not that I want to get woken up, but just that I want those eliminations. It's a different experience this time I guess.

Also, does anyone else feel like they have fur growing on your teeth? I know it's gross, but I just can't get my teeth to feel clean no matter how much I brush!

Hey Gang! The board really picked up since I checked in yesterday. Glad to have the company! Day 2 here and feeling good. My hubby was planning to do the whole 10 days with me, but he is having surgery on his sinuses Thurs and may just duck out after day 3. I was under the impression cleansing was fine just after surgery, because of the way the body would use it's energy resources to repair the tissue and detox from the drugs. I've read elsewhere that cleansing actually speeds up the healing process but haven't found much on this website except vague info on waiting until after and nothing is specifically cited from outside sources or even how long to wait. Nothing in Stanley Burough's book says to wait. Anyone have food for thought? In the mean time we're not stressen'. Talk to ya soon :rolleyes:ds

Hi Jezzguh - I like that name!

I've heard that - about the furry teeth thing - but nope, haven't experienced it myself.

Good luck with your eliminations. I just don't wish on you or anyone the accompanying cramps. My whole insides were being rearranged!

Hi Danceshine! I remember you from the good 'ol days! Nice to "see" a familiar "face!" 2006 is when I started logging in here. I think I'd want to be on the cleanse if I were facing surgery, especially if there were going to be any anesthesia, but that's just my opinion, no scientific backing on this opinion. It would help eliminate toxins introduced during the surgery and I probably wouldn't feel like eating much anyway. The only thing is that if you ask the doctor, he/she is likely to say 'no,' because they're not familiar with it.

Sorry your hubby has to have the surgery. Sure hope he's breathing better soon!

I made it through Day 2...almost. It looks like reducing the cayenne pepper helped reduce the BMs some. I stopped at Whole Foods to try to find the Daily-Dophlus but for some reason they seem to have discontinued selling it. I've been to another location prior to today and didn't find it either.

While I was there I decided to look for Cassava Chips or as Lahotani coined it "beautiful packets of air". I've complained in the past that they charged $2.99 for 5 oz of the tasty chips. Apparently they've decided to permanently lower the price. At least it didn't have a for sale sign. The new price was $1.67, which is much better. Maybe the price was too good since there were no bags left. I was a bit dismayed but bent down to see if any were in the far back since the chips were on the bottom row. There was one lonely bag so I grabbed it. I wanted to get another one though and looked some more and found another bag hiding in the back row of another product. I immediately grabbed that bag that I assume a store employee must've hid.

All that activity got me extra hungry though. I've had 8 drinks today and it looks like I'll need another one soon. I may wind up drinking 10 before the day's out.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents about the probiotics/antibiotics talk.

Taking probiotics WHILE taking antibiotics just sounds crazy to me.

It is well established that antibiotics kill the good bacteria as well as the bad.

If you take "x" amount of antibiotics, that amount will kill "y" amount of bacteria - indiscriminately. x = y
The amount, "y," of bacteria is composed of both kinds: good ("g") and bad ("b"). g + b = y.
Therefore x = g + b

The amount of antibiotics you take in one day is not enough to kill ALL the bacteria in your system. Therefore, you have to keep taking the antibiotics for several weeks.

If you keep deliberately keep adding probiotics (good bacteria, "g"), then you are changing the amount of "y" in your body. Now you don't have "y" (g + b) any more. Now you have 2g +b.

"x" amount of antibiotics is NOT enough to kill 2g + b, only enough to kill g + b. Since the antibiotics can't tell the difference, they will kill whatever they come across first.

If you take probiotics with antibiotics, you are just giving the antibiotics MORE work to do, so that they can't get the full job done. They MAY kill all the probiotics (which are easy to get to - in the stomach right next to them) and leave all the bad bacteria (which are harder to get to - in this case in the lungs). It will take you longer to get well, and it won't help you digest any better because the antibiotics will be killing off the probiotics as fast as you consume them.

It makes much more sense to do the probiotics AFTER the full course of antibiotics is over.

I'm sure there are plenty of MDs who prescribe them both together. But since when have MDs been that knowledgable about nutrition?

Lahontani....not sure if I unintentionally sparked the probiotics/antibiotics rant but I was looking for the probiotics to use after I hopefully get through 10 days and start on the soup. Just planning ahead since I'm currently out of it. Definitely not planning on taking any now and if I did, your sound logic sure would convince me not to. :D

Did you check out the THREAD (http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/showthread.php?t=644)about people should not do the cleanse after surgery? Pater is pretty emphatic about the why... "The body requires much more protein when it is healing from surgery or otherwise rebuilding flesh. Therefore, until a person is recovered, she or he should not do the Master cleanse." There is probably no specific instruction on time because that would depend on each persons health at the time of surgery and the nature and complication of the surgery.

That being said, I'd have to agree that fasting just before the surgery and immediately after (like maybe 24-48 hours? if probably a good thing? As many have said you don't really eat anyway. Also, since it takes two to three days to get back to solid food after cleansing if you do it properly, are you accounting for that? I guess if OJ day coincided with surgery day that would maybe be best. One issue though, if he needs pain killers I think some of those recommend eating something? Being the baby I can be about severe pain I'd want to be sure I could pop a few of those and with sinus surgury I would particularly not want to have any nausea... Can't imagine needed to throw-up with head on fire... Not that I am wishing him pain! I hope it is very anti-climactic for him. Give him our regards! and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Good morning to day 5!

Need to remind myself this is NOT hump day! When I go for 10 days, there is always a happy dance that I am half way there. This time I'm in for 28 (gotta keep telling myself that) so just a another postive action day in the life here.

The only thing I would add to the whole dicsussion on bacteria is that different classes of antibiotics work in different ways... some attack the cell membrane and cause them to burst, others inhibit reproduction, etc. Sometimes they can quite specific and others broadspectrum. That being the case it is possible that since many probioitcs are made up of specific strains of bacteria and our gut contains many types, it may not be completely useless to take them. Again - a case by case basis dependent upon the class of organism. With luck your doctor has at least a working knowledge of microbiology even if his nutrition is a bit too western! If all else fails - check in with your pharmacist. Despite the disrespect many get as glorified counter salespeople thay have very extensive training into how drugs work, anatomy and physiology, etc. Again you'll but up against the whole western philosophy thing - but we aren't asking about whether to do the cleanse - just about the action of the specific antibiotic and whether or not it would kill the strain of good bug in the probiotic.

I only post about once a day but go to it a few times a day to read for support. If you need support I will be reading. It is a tough process, so be kind to yourself.

I read back through some of my journals from my past cleanses and started getting down, because I feel like I'm stuck in the same places each time. I think I'm just generally down because of the detox stuff. I'm not sure where I 'should' be, but I've been trying not to be hard on myself, but ugh! Anyway, it's the beginning of Day 4 for me and you can see it's starting off on a high note. :(

My question is, should I expect my BMs to be liquid the whole time? And what about mucus? I haven't had any, should i have by now?

thanks!

Day -4 Complete

So....today is Day 5 . Gotta tell y'all, I'm having a lot of nasal drainage. Mucous is just dripping!! Folks think I'm sick or something, but I'm not. This Master Cleanse is doing EXACTLY what its supposed to do. Its ridding my body of toxins one way or another. My SWF went well this morning, my eliminations we NOT just liquid. Unbelievable - 5 days of no solid foods, and I'm still spitting out solid matter.....SMH. I just want my insides to be clean...so no complaints here!! .

I think there are a few threads that touch on BMs... that being said here is what I have noticed happens for me

After the initial expelling on day one/two from the solid food I was eating previously, I enter what I'll call stage two - very liquid, no clumping, just brownish particulate in yellowy water. that is maybe two days? then stage three - it LOOKS solid, but after accidentally allowing the belt of my robe to slip into the bowl ( horrifying) I have determined that it is not really solid but more like brown globules of mucousy fatty clumps which hold together and look failry solid. My SWF eliminations tend to drop back to the stage two type, but throughout the day they go to the stage three type. Make sense? I have not cleansed past 14 days so I do not know if there is a stage 4! LOL Basically though liquid in liquid out with the occasional small solid piece (or solid looking peice) now and then. Most assuredly nothing like when eating solid food.

Hope that helps!

Good morning day 3! :D

Ok, that was my attempt at being positive. It's great that I got through 2 days. Makes it much more likely that this won't be a false start - I've done many of those where I gave up in the first two days and had to start over.

But I just got a text from my 16 year old that he's got an off period at school today and can I pick him and a friend up and take them out to lunch. So I was excited to spend time with him, and already thinking about where we should go for lunch when, bam! I remembered I'm on LA.

So now my grumpy negative self is thinking how hard it's going to be to bring a bottle of LA with me and hope they choose a lunch place I don't care much for, and even jeez, I'm so busy and now I'm taking time out of my day to go do this when I can't even eat....

But of course I'll do it anyway. I'm just grateful that the teenager is still willing to be seen in public with his mom.8)

My time so far has been uneventful. Nothing to report but the loss of 3 lbs. Very unusual for 1 day of MC, so we all know what that weight consisted of . I guess I was literally full of it:o.

DOES ANYONE ON HERE FREQUENT THIS BOARDS A LOT IN THE DAY, OR JUST THE USUAL ONCE A DAY KIND OF THING?
I don't post all that often but I do check to see if anyone else has. Especially days when I'm fuzzy, emotional, and procrastinating, etc. I just keep checking - and I feel like I'm being pathetic and needy - like if I check and no-one has posted anything I'll be so disappointed I'll just have to go have a cheeseburger or something. :(

It's a little like the old step on the scale mentality - if I've lost weight then I'll stick to my diet, but if not well this diet isn't working anyway I might as well eat whatever I want... so then you find yourself stepping on the scale daily or even multiple times a day. The first time I did MC I got on the scale daily for scientific recording purposes you see. Now I make a point of getting on the scale before I start just to know where I started from, and then not checking daily - because this is for my health more than for weight loss. Though if I'm feeling all needy and I check in and no-one has posted, it could send me to take a trip up to the scale...:o

January is great because there are so many people online. Always something new to read when I check in. And my fat jeans for the holidays are already starting to feel loose on day 2. ;)

Day 3 for me and I'm exhausted. I can't tell if I'm tired from the cleanse itself or the getting up at 4:30 in the a.m. to get the SWF out of the way. I work 8-5 every day and go to school at night til 10:00 3x a week so that is most likely it. Have the night off from school tonight and looking forward to getting some rest. I think next time I will do as I did last year and start on a weekend so days 1 and 2 can be spent at home.

Noticed that I'm going through less Lemonade today than I have in the past 2 days. However, I have an appointment with my trainer at the gym at lunch. This will my first workout MC'ing...should be interesting. I'm worried about any "sudden movements" if you know what I mean

Today's symptoms seem to be: Very strange dreams, tiredness, mucous drainage in throat, headache and fuzziness/lack of focus. I'm also starting to think of food a lot. Nothing in particular...just food in general.

Happy Cleansing everyone!

Hi! You can always put some more MS in the drink. You can have more lemonades, too - up to 12 glasses per day. If you're feeling hungry, don't be stingy with yourself!

And are you drinking plenty of water? You should be having at least one glass of water for every glass of lemonade. Sometimes when we think we're hungry we're really thirsty instead.

Happy cleansing!

I'm on Day 5 and I can't seem to get rid of this hunger. I read you can't put more lemon in the drink, is this true? I need more of something. Help!

Are you making sure you drink enough LA? 6-12 servings. Don't cut it on the low side. And if you feel hungry and it's making you want to quit - drink more even if you go above the 12 servings to get through that day.

The way I figure it, 1 serving is only 100 calories in MS and the lemon is only 8 calories. So if you are only drinking 6 servings, you are getting by on 648 calories. You are definitely going to have days where you just need more than that. Even at 12 servings you are doing only 1296 calories. You definitely aren't going to gain weight adding an extra serving.
