Hi everyone!
I am a newbie on day 4 of my cleanse. I do have a few questions that I did not see covered in the book. I am down 6 pounds since starting. I have also experienced excrutiating headaches at the base of my skull in the early evening, hoping I won't get one tonight. When I started the cleanse I was not feeling well, don't know if is allergies but I seem to be getting sick every 2 months with the same symptoms, sore throat, nasal congestion that goes to my chest, it literally wipes me out & puts me in bed for a few days. I heard someone at yoga talking about the master cleanse & started the next day, I am so sick of being sick & am hoping this will help clear out whatever toxins I have. I am couging up small amounts of yellow phlegm.
I am not doing the laxative tea at all, but am faithfully doing the salt water flush. Is this okay? My eliminations are yellow, this morning the first one had some brown in in, but I think I am doing okay.
Does everyone go on a raw diet after the cleanse? I don't know if I am ready to give up real food. I eat healthy, lots of salads & chicken, no white flour products or a lot of sugar & occasionally eat red meat.
I practice hot Bikram yoga 6 days a week, so I detox this way on a regular basis.

Thanks Juicerkatz for your insight.
I'm on the downhill slide of Day 6. I can't believe it as I didn't think I'd make it one day. Been on the road for two days heading back to summer home and my husband has been eating junk non-stop but it doesn't seem to bother me. Unbelievable!
Trying to get more juice down and lot's of ice. Will weigh tomorrow, hope it shows a drop!

I'm planning on starting the MC tomorrow. I've spent so many hours researching it and making sure it was the right thing for me and I really do think this will be a great experience.
I feel sluggish and toxic and am really hoping to regain some clarity and energy. This forum is a great place, packed with info and I'm sure I'll be popping in and out foradvice over the coming weeks as I embark on my first cleanse. :)
I have done all the research as well for this my first MC. All the best of British Luck......you will be one or two days ahead of me so it will be two newbies together or "the blind leading the blind"...........keep in touch and let me know how you are doing. We may be able to help support each other over the next 10 days. I feel so ill when I eat anything at the moment....yucky
I was going to start on Monday as I have to go to town tommorrow.........Not sure how I will do with Monday being a holiday ........Tuesday looks like a clear day to start with out any interuptions then I am home alone with two loo's to myself............lol

Good for you..........how long after taking the SW can you start the Lemon drink? If you have headaches can you take a painkiller for that: or if not what is the answer?

Wait at least 30 minutes after the SW. No painkillers. When you get heasaches, drink water or more lemonade instead.

Hi. I am new to this site. I bought the Master Cleanse book and have been following directions as religiously as possible. I have been drinking the required amounts of lemonade, doing the salt water flush, and the detox tea. I have to say that it is not very difficult with the only possible exception of day 2 when the process knocked me out and I felt horrible the whole day. I am currently on day TEN, which is supposed to be the last day. My concern is that I don't actually feel that much better. Throughout the cleanse I have been feeling confused and bored and listless. I still feel these things. I started the cleanse because I had low energy and I thought this would be a good remedy (Book title: Lose Weight, Have More Energy, Be Happier in 10 Days). I'll try anything. But I don't feel more energized. I feel exactly as I always do and more often than not even less energetic. I also haven't loss much weight- 5 pounds. Most of that weight came off in the first three days or so, the same I experience when I do any diet change (Dieters always say that water loss and that weight comes back, and so it does). In the book it is stated that this regimen works only for 95% of people. So my question is: Do I fall into that rare 5 percent? Should I continue several more days on the MC and see if things improve or does it never improve for that 5%?

Many thanks for that information.....today is minus one day and counting to "D-Day". Today is going to be mainly a fruit and vegetable day and the smallest coffee evah (or none at all). I am excited and very nervous at the same time......like a kid on Xmas Eve............lol

lol, that's how I felt when I was preparing to start the cleanse. I believe you are off to a good start, especially building a base of fruits & veggies the day before. I also feel eating a bit "lighter" than normal will be beneficial.
As far as the headaches are concerned, they can be mostly contributed to detox/caffeine withdraw, & thankfully they do not last for more than a few hours to a day for most folks. After you go through this you will be a new person for sure, ready to take on the world! ;) (At least that's how I felt)
I know it will be "easier" for me the next time around since I know what to expect now. The thread on here about Detox symptoms/their milestones is a good one to brief through. It lets you know what others have been through & what maybe what you can expect.
Cheers! :)

Many thanks again for that information. Another question coming up.....there is some suggestion to make each glass of MC Lemonade seperately .........how do you get 1/10th tspoon of Cayenne Pepper ..........I dont have a measure for that (I hope its not by guestimation as that stuff is pretty potent).
Okay another question about drinking the SW in the morning: the idea is to get it all down asap right? Do you bite on a slice of lemon afterwards or sip water or just grin and bear it? Sorry to be such a pain, I just want to be prepared. Also have gone and read the symptom thread and am hoping I dont end up like a first year med student who "gets' all the symptoms as he studies the disease...........

When I am home I use a juicer to make the juice, each glass. If I have to travel, I will make up a batch for the amount of time I will be on the road. As far as the 1/10th tsp., I suppose there are measures out there to get the amount precise, but I think most people just estimate. Personally, i like it hot, so I added a good bit.
By the end of the 10th day, I was using over 1/2 a tsp. & liking it very much! As long as you use a heat unit of around 40000, that is a good one. You will not like it very much if you go with a hotter one.
If you do make up a batch for the day, don't add all the pepper at that time, as it will increase in heat by the end of the day & may be too hot for you, esp. at first.
Okay another question about drinking the SW in the morning: the idea is to get it all down asap right? Do you bite on a slice of lemon afterwards or sip water or just grin and bear it? lol, I just gulped it down in like 4 or 5 large swallows. Peter mentions in his book that it can be easier if you count the swallows that you do. I did that, & it did seem easier to me.
Also, it does get easier to stomach with each passing day; some have issues with it, some don't.
I just want to be prepared. Also have gone and read the symptom thread and am hoping I dont end up like a first year med student who "gets' all the symptoms as he studies the disease........... Yeah, I know what you mean. I like to read the symptoms thread, do online research, and also look at youtube vids, as there are many on youtube that do the cleanse. There is a youtube poster by the name of "abstigator" that is currently undertaking a 30 day cleanse. She has good vids on the subject.
I don't read too much into the symptoms really, I just take mine as them come. It is nice to have an idea of what others are experiencing, but as you mentioned, I also don't want to put pre-conceived ideas in my head. If you don't have the books about the master cleanse, I would recommend getting them. They are good reading & do cover a lot of the questions that people have. (Peter's book & Stanley Burrows book)

I decided to continue the fast for at least five more days. This is day 11. I still feel mentally confused and have not experienced any burst of energy. I lost another pound. At last. But what I want is energy. I'm starting now to looking forward coming off the fast which will be Friday. I'm not sure how anyone can work with a mind in such a state. Still continuing the regimen religiously.
I need to learn to give up. I really do. But the lemons and the syrup have been bought, so on I go. I made a commitment. Now I need to follow through. I just hope that I'm not damaging myself in the process.

I intend to buy it with some more supplies with my next order.

Hi Heather,
My friend who turned me on to the MC says she passed her gallstones because of the MC. They were partially dissolved and very small, but she is convinced that's what they were. Happy cleansing!!
Today is my day 6 and things are going well. The last 3 days I have been extremely depressed, but got through it by going to the movies with a big cup of crushed ice up front and a small container of lemonade in my purse! That plus epsom salt baths. The cost of grade B maple syrup has gone up about 80% since the last time I bought it (in bulk). Darn. I wanted to go for 28 days, but my daughter's graduation is on 6-13, so I can only do 21, if I want to have enough days for juice, broth, soup, etc. before the big family celebrations. This is a true case of not wanting to eat for me - it would make her feel awkward to have me take her + boyfriend to dinner, then not eat anything. I try to find pockets of time when it is more convenient and less public to do a cleanse.
Good luck to all here. :)

I used up my maple syrup and lemons and it's the evening of my 8th day, 7 days longer than I thought I could do this. I had a glass of orange juice this evening and some green tea. I'll weigh in the morning but I think it will only be 4-5 lbs.
Bought lots of fruit and veges. This has been a great experience and hope to do it every 3 months for 3 days minimum.
Now, a new learning curve, breaking the fast!

Good Morning Peoples!!!! :D
I've done a handful of MC's before and now this is MC 5. I guess you can say I fell off the wagon spiritually and as it relates to my eating habits so I need the cleanse to get back on track. I always complete the MC feeling rejuvinated, regenerated, and energized.
I drank my Smooth move last night.
Day 1, here we go...;)

Hey everyone,
I'm starting day 4 here and all has been, well, too easy... Here's a synopsis of my story. I'm a 29 year old, healthy young man. I don't have any weight to lose. In fact if nothing else, I should probably gain a few pounds (though I am in the "healthy" BMI zone). I may not "work out" per say but I am very active and have always worked manual labour. The reason I chose to do this cleanse is primarily for the detox. I've always felt that I don't assimilate my food efficiently. I can eat and eat any sort of food and have a hard time weighing above 155 pounds (I'm 6'1") and I'm frequently tired after meals (especially lunch). I'm also a newly initiated father (6 month old baby boy) and decided that I wanted to be a dad who could easily follow his young children and keep up with their energy. Over and above all that, I've been contemplating becoming a vegetarian for some time (I'll likely cut red meat/chicken but keep fish for the time being).
That led me to this cleanse which I good friend of mine just finished with excellent results. I downloaded the pdf of the original book and also purchased/read Peter's book before starting last friday evening. I've followed the cleanse exactly as is written (laxative tea before bed, SWF first thing in the morning, 8 X 8oz lemonades throughout the day, and around 10 X 8oz of water, I also sneak in a few tablespoons of pure maple syrup as a treat, and also to make sure I don't lose to much weight). The only thing that I have varied is that 4 of my lemonade drinks are made with blackstrap molasses (which from my research has much more vitamins and minerals than maple syrup) and the others are made with organic maple syrup. Also, I quite enjoy cayenne pepper and add more per drink than suggested, more like 1/4 teaspoon per drink.
Now for my experience thusfar... well day 1 was a breeze. SWF worked within an hour and I passed lots of solids. Didn't feel any hunger, no headaches no physical pains, I felt a little stoned in the evening but it was temporary. I prepared a meal for my wife and was mostly turned of by the looks of it. Day 2 was also quite easy, I was perhaps a little more irratable, still no hunger/pains/headaches. SWF evacuated some more solids followed by some liquids. I did have an unusual low of energy by 10:30am and took a nap. Day 3 wasn't difficult at all. SWF flushed mostly liquids with some floaties. Still slightly irratable but not much more than usual, had another nap at 10:30am. No signs of detox symptoms, even the tongue is mostly clear (though I have always scraped it daily). I'm starting day 4, downed my SWF and am awaiting the "call". No signs of headaches/pain/hunger. So all seems to be well.
There it is, sorry for the length I just wanted to be thourough in my description in case someone was considering this cleanse. If anyone feels like responding please do, has anyone else not really felt any detox symptoms or do you all think they'll come before the end of the 10 days? Thanks for any insight!

MC 5 DAY 1
I just had SWF potty trip # 1. I prefer a morning SWF over Smooth move. I always feel refreshed after the SWF. If I drank Smooth Move in the morning, the effects always show up at the wrong time.
I guess I'll have my first cup of lemonade in about an hour and then I'll head to the gym. It's just too hot here to do my normal run at the park. :D

Hello Everyone!
This is my first MC (actually my first ever ANY type of cleansing or fasting) so I am really glad to have come here for some support.
Today is day 5 for me. Things have been going really well for me so far. I have tried to follow the regimen closely. I am surprised at how much energy I have and have not had any symptoms or cravings yet. I was really nervous about days 2 and 3 since Peter's book kept mentioning those would be the toughest.
Only issue I have had is last night shortly after drinking the senna tea, I got a migraine that I still have right now. I have been nauseous and lightheaded all morning. I am not sure what caused it since I am not eating (usually some foods I eat trigger it or stress or sometimes that time of the month does it ) and have been home the last few days. It got so bad at one point this morning I was contemplating quitting this just so I could take my medication. I tried drinking lemonade but that didn't help. I even googled to find some non-medical ways to get rid of a migraine. Those didn't work either. hmmm....
I thought I read in Peter's book that it's recommended to only drink one recipe at a time. Can anyone tell me why? I remember him stating that the juice needs to be freshly made to have the best effect but I don't remember him telling us why not to drink 2 batches in one sitting. Just curious because I have done that at least once each day as it is really hard to stop every hour and make a lemonade. It will be even harder when I return to work tomorrow.
Time for shout outs (I have only read two pages here though) :
JuicerKatz,
Thanks so much for the idea of checking out Abstigar's posts on youtube. I found them motivating.
I haven't made it over to the other threads of this board so anything you find helpful that you saw on the symptom board is appreciated. It sounds similar to what Peter has in his book but any more input is better. Thanks!
Savroj789,
Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Has your tongue turned pink yet? Maybe your detox is already done or maybe it might be better to start it again in a couple of months. I have read that some people only do it for a couple of days the first time then move on to longer the next time.
You inspire me. I hope to have that commitment to keep at it until my tongue turns pink. (that's my goal)
Christine,
Good Luck to you when you begin!
Sgman316,
I am impressed that you are drinking the SWF on the way to work! For some reason since I have started this thing (today is day 5), I have spent the 90 minutes after drinking the SWF either in the bathroom or running to and from. Today I actually took a blanket and pillow and laid on the floor because I got tired of running back and forth. I could never do this while driving or at work!
Sierra Magic,
WOW!!!! You have done the MC quite a few times. That's AWESOME!
I think Peter mentioned in his book about coming off the cleanse slowly so that our digestive system can get accustomed to food again just as you mentioned first with juice then broth then soup. I was wondering if you might share a typical breaking the fast for you. I read in a different book that it is recommended to spend at least HALF of the time one was on a fast, breaking it. So for example if I were to make it 20 days on the MC then I would need to spend at least 10 days easing my way back or else one gets really sick, right? I was curious as to how much time you devote to juices, then to broth, then to soups and also what kind of juices do you come back to? What types of broth (homemade recipes - i don't have any, or store bought?)
Thanks so much for any insight you may give me on this.
Wineless,
Congrats on your success!
My1journey,
Glad to see you are doing this at the same time I am since you have done it several times already. I am sure to be 'picking your brain' in the upcoming days since this is my first experience. (if you don't mind)
Foxterrier,
I as well have had no symptoms the first four days. I had loads of energy, needed none of my usual naps, no crankiness or cravings until last night when i received a migraine which I am still trying to get rid of. It goes in and out of being awful (nausea and dizziness) to being just bearable (like right now). I noticed that you are drinking 8-10 glasses of water ONTOP of your count of lemonades?!? Maybe that's my problem!?! I haven't been drinking any water besides the 32 oz SFW and my daily 8 glasses of lemonade and cup of tea at night. I am afraid to drink any more water for fear I will be running to pee every five minutes!! (small bladder issues)
Be Happy that you aren't experiencing any bad symptoms. In Peter's book he mentions that the more toxins one has to eliminate, the stronger the symptoms.
For me, I don't drink alcohol, smoke or drink caffeine (I am a sugar addict though), so I was thinking this was why I may not be having the typical withdrawals that come from giving those items up.
I am really excited to use this experience to curb my cravings for sugar, chocolate, breads, and cheesy foods. I want to try the raw food diet that Peter suggests but am not sure if I have the willpower to do that.
Well, guess this turned into a novella. Sorry about that. Just want to express my thanks to everyone on this board for your comments of encouragement to each other and knowledge you are passing along.
I am half way through day 5, yeah!!! Let's hope I can make it until my tongue turns pink! Although I return to work tomorrow (I work in a restaurant), so I'll have to keep my fingers crossed and really push through this with all of your help.
Thanks!
Christene

Thanks!
Groan!!!!!!..........I feel so ill..............rotten headache all day...........slept a little, stumbled out of bed for some juice and loo stop etc...........going right back again now

HEY EVERYONE. THIS IS MY 2ND DAY ON MC2. I FINISHED THE FIRST ONE 7 WEEKS AGO, MAYBE I'M STARTING TO SOON, BUT I DEFINETELY LIKED HOW IT DEFINED AND TONED MY BODY. EVEN THOUGH I GO TO THE GYM, IT DOES NOT WORK AS WELL AS THE MC. AFTER ALL IT IS TRUE, THAT NO MATTER HOW MUCH U EXERCISE, FOOD IS THE CAUSE THAT WE CAN'T LOOSE WEIGHT. AND TOO BE HONEST I AM DOING THIS TO LOOSE WEIGHT. I HAVE MUSCLES, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THEY R NOT THAT VISIBLE UNDER SOME FAT  AND I'M REALLY NOT SURE IF I GOT DETOXED THE FIRST TIME, CAUSE AFTER MC I FELT THE SAME AS BEFORE. THE FIRST TIME I DID IT, MY HUSBAND JOINED ME AND IT WAS EASIER KNOWING THAT I HAVE SOMEONE WHO FEELS LIKE I DO. THIS TIME I'M NOT SURE IF I CAN LAST 10 DAYS, LIKE LAST TIME. MAYBE BECAUSE I ALREADY KNOW, HOW COLD, MISERABLE AND MOODY, NO ENERGY, HUGE HEADACHES, BODY ACHES I WILL EXPERIENCE :(. THIS TIME I AM DOING TEA IN THE MORNING AND AT NIGHT WITH SOME MAPLE SYRUP, AND IS NOT BAD AND I'M GETTING BETTER RESULTS. SW I COULD NOT DO IT MADE ME SICK. YESTERDAY, MY 1ST DAY, WAS PRETTY BAD. I WAS ANGRY, HUNGRY AND COLD. AFTER MY LAST CLEANSE I DID THE LEMONADE ONCE A WEEK TO MAKE SURE I WON'T GAIN TOO MUCH WEIGHT BACK. BUT EVEN THAT DID NOT PREPARE ME FOR THE CLEANSE, MAYBE BECAUSE I KNOW IT'S NOT FOR ONE DAY BUT TEN. I'M SCARED OF THE WEEKEND CAUSE THATS THE HARDEST FOR ME. I KNOW I WON'T BE ABLE TO GO OUT ANYWHERE, AND I LOVE GOING TO JAPANESE RESTAURANT FOR HIBACHI. I'LL PROBABLY BE IN BED ALL WEEKEND AND TRY NOT TO THINK ABOUT MY GROWLING STOMACH. LIKE LAST TIME WHEN I'M TRYING TO FALL ASLEEP ALL I THINK ABOUT IS FOOD.
SORRY GUYS FOR THAT LONG AND NOT VERY MOTIVATING SPEECH, BUT I HAD TO LET IT OUT. I KNOW THAT EVERYONE WHO DOESN'T DO THE MC IS VERY CRITICAL OF IT, THEY JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND. EVEN MY HUSBAND WHO LASTED ALL 10 DAYS LAST TIME, SAYS HE WILL NEVER PUT HIS BODY THROUGH IT AGAIN.THEY KEEP TELLING ME THAT I'M DOING HARM TO MY BODY, IT'S STUPID IDEA AND IF I WANT TO LOOSE WEIGHT I JUST NEED TO EAT LESS. I'M SO GLAD WE HAVE THIS SITE AND CAN SUPPORT EACH OTHER AND DO SOME COMPLAINING :D CHRISTEN I LOVE UR QUOTE, IT MAKES ME WANT TO DO THE CLEANSE EVEN MORE. HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE.

Diary Day one
Awoke 10.00am feeling rather nauseous and with slight headache.
Then prevaricated with will I or won’t I start today; and it took me till 11.00 before I managed to talk myself into having my first SWF. I tried to slug it down in one attempt but my throat kept closing and I had to focus on relaxing it……counting each swallow helped somewhat but I still had to stop and relax after 3 or 4 swallows. Then I sat and read for about an hour till the SWF worked.
Took my first MC drink at 12.00 with my prescribed medication and a 10oz a glass of water at 12.30pm and another MC at 1.00pm and another water at 1.30pm
By 1.35pm I was aching all over so I took a hot Epsom Salt bath.
At 2.00pm I had another MC, but I had a major headache so went to bed.
More water at 2.30pm, then back to bed where I fell asleep off and on till 4.30pm.
At 4.30pm another MC followed by water at 5.00pm, MC at 5.30pm, water at 5.30pm: MC at 6.30pm water at 7.00pm.
Tried another MC at 7.30pm only got half down before it started coming up, this time the Cayenne Pepper tasted really hot (same dose as all day though).
Sipped a liter of water slowly till 9.00pm when I took my prescribed meds
Had SM tea at 10.00pm along with my last prescribed medication.
Went to bed with still with a major headache, slept badly as I tossed and turned all night still with the headache. I woke at 7.00am still with the headache. Stayed in bed till 10.00am ……..the headache had gone at last.
I made myself a daily tick chart for water , MC, SW, Herb tea and times when taken taken and random notes so that’s how I managed to write this today.
Exhausted but off to start day 2 …………….hoping it will be better than day one as I never want to go through that again.

A helpful hint given to me was dont look at the whole MCF in one huge picture as it can be overwhelming...........Look at one day at a time.......from sunrise to sunset ....focus on that, be in that day only........then when you go to sleep that night look at all the positives that you accomplished during that day "n give yourslelf a lil pat on the back" for doing so well that day.

My biggest problem is that i have to be around people that are eating food. I am a mother of 2 (one is 2 the other is 6) so I must feed them. And then at lunch people at work are eating around me. i have learned to find some place to meditate until lunch is over but what should i do about dinner time with my 2 daughters.
And can anyone give me an answer about the peeing? Or does everyone pee alot.

Often the first couple of days are the hardest, it will get a bit easier w/ each passing day.

Great advice - One day at a time, the daily tick chart is a great idea as well, & gives one a sense of accomplishment when you look back at what you have done for the day/week. It is especially helpful if you have little support from family/friends.
Hang in there all!!! :)

Hi all, This is the end of day nine of my fourth cleanse in two or so years. I haven't done one since March '08. kind of nuts that I work around food in a restaurant. It has been a challenge each time. :( But it is great to know tomorrow is my last day of the fast, :) , could go longer but have a wedding next week to go to and will be out of town and my MC comfort zone. A couple of hurdles in this one I don't remember from before. Day three was tough, I was spacey at work and very hungry. Then day eight was like hitting a wall and we, (my husband is doing this with me), talked about cutting the cleanse short. Glad we didn't, it is a real sense of accomplishment and I congratulate anyone who makes it through. Plus kudos to those who try and may not have made the 10 days but at least there is effort and desire to so something good for yourself.:D.Anyway, I think tomorrow will be a breeze knowing the next day we will be sipping fresh squeezed Florida OJ. 8) Question, why was I sometimes bloated this time? Did everything the same as before, though exercised only three times. which doesn't really matter as I weigh 124. But I crave cardio! Need to get moving but was afraid of being tired at work, (last time I was), this time just hungry.

Rounding the end of day 10 for me. This is my second MC, and like the first one, i will only be going for 10 days. (There are faaaaar too many graduation parties approaching. That, and my teeth seriously need a break.) But i am happy to see that my tongue already started clearing up and becoming pink as of last night, something that didn't happen when i stopped my first MC.
Variation really helped this time round, i alternated between lemons and limes, and agave, maple and molasses. the latter being the most interesting lol.
Heidi000 : I feel the same way! my first cleanse i don't remember being as bloated as i was this time around...though i'm starting to think that PMS may have been the culprit....
I keep staring at the oranges and grapefruits in the kitchen. :)

I am on day 1. Tried earlier this month, snacked on day 2 & 3, got back on track then caved on day 6 which was mother's day. Was gonna wait til end of summer to try again, but I want to succeed really bad. I did really good until about 5 min ago. Ate a few reese's pieces :(. I figure that if I can go almost a week then I can finish the 10 days. NO MORE CHEATING!! I vow to stay committed and post my progress as honestly as it comes. Wish me good fortune and be well :).

Day one does not officially begin until there is no cheating. So, DJ, you should throw away any temptations and start all over again tomorrow. Good luck.
I am on day 10, YAY! Planning to break the fast tomorrow. Last swf this morning, thank goodness. Question: Do I do the smooth move tea tonight? Drink a lemonade for breakfast tomorrow before the OJ? an how much OJ should I drink for the day? I will actually be alternating between OJ and grapefruit juice. Thanks for your reply. :o

Heidi, u don't need to do the tea at night when ur on day 10th, and that's ur last day. guys, u ask why u pee so much. when all u drink is liquid, and much of it, ur bladder needs to empty out. unfortunatelly, thats one thing we can't control and can't do nothing about it. i'm in the bathroom every 10 minutes, and i know it's very annoying, i feel like my bladder is always full. i'm on day 3, and i'm not feeling too hungry, but it's still morning, it will probably change. i think i have more cravings than anything. last night felt very weak. i have no energy, so i'm scared to go to the gym so i won't faint. the taste of lemonade is getting boring. i feel like my brain is not functioning well, i feel confused and don't feel like talking. i know that i will feel like that until day 9. i noticed that i have better eliminations, than last time. i think the tea works better this time. everyone have a good day, and be strong, we r all in this together.

Diary Day two
Finally got out of bed at 10.00 once yesterdays long headache past, it was such a relief. :p
Took my SWF slowly at 10.30: to stop my gagging over it.
Seemed to only pass the SWF later….aren’t we supposed to have lots of movements during the day?
I noticed that I broke out in a cold sweat after the SWF and again after the first MC Lemonade.
Then I pretty much had a MC every hour and the water every half hour till 6.30. I felt disorientated preparing a meal for others and sipped water as they ate. I felt restless but realized I wasn’t hungry just not in my usual eating routine.
The last MC Lemonade tasted very hot the same as yesterday (and again I used the same measured amount all day).
Went to bed an hour earlier than usual after the SM tea……….which I love because it tastes good and also signals the end of another successful day.
Starting day three now………

I am still in the preparation phase. I don't get a lot of support from my family. I have just been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and have been taking a lot of prescription drugs. Taking drugs is really difficult for me since I have tried to manage everything naturally for the last 40 years. When you have enough pain it is amazing what you will do! I am scared to do the cleanse but I want to do it, does that sound crazy? I am so excited to find this site and be able to read what so many others have gone through. I know that I need to feel the fear and do it anyway. I believe that this can reduce the inflammation in my body and make a big difference. Thank you
Good for you..........I too am doing this to relieve my constant pain and inflamation and hopefully to get off the drugs as I am not a good patient at taking them. Hadnt seen my doctor for two years so she gave me a battery of tests to do ...........some with neg results so hence the MC for me.
I am keeping a daily diary to present to my doctor when I see her after I have finished the MC. You certainly get plenty of support from this site and the forum posting members.
Scared and excited at the same time......sounds normal to me..........lol

Good Morning Lemonheads! And a gorgeous day it is ! Began to feel great again, yesterday on day 8 and day 9 is looking promising as well...
Some comments on earlier posts:
Foxterrier - I'm right there with you about using the cleanse to try to detox and get my digestive system to work the way it's supposed to. I have the mirror image of your problem, though. I have leaky gut syndrome, so I don't absorb all the food I eat, then am hungry and eat more than I should and gain weight. The cleanse helps me a lot with this, and I try to do one a season. I think I could do more "repair" work if I were able to stick to a raw diet with acidopholus supplements in between cleanses, but I usually slowly move back to my old habits. This is in part because I have teen-aged sons and can't keep only vegies in the house. Yes, I think your symptoms of feeling excessively tired after lunch mean your body is trying to shut down to digest because it is so difficult - this is the reason that infants on formula sleep longer than infants who breastfeed, because formula is so much harder to digest that they have to fall asleep to deal with the challenge. I'm sure you know from reading The Master Cleanser that molasses is OK (I think Burroughs calls it sorghum throughout the book though - the difference between sorghum molasses and regular molasses is which grass/vegetable is used. Sorghum is an Old World grass, most molasses comes from sugar cane or sugar beets. The point is that is is a natural unrefined sugar. Agave syrup is also OK ) I'm sure you also know that it is OK to take more than the recommended amount of lemonade. My question to you, though, is why are you taking tablespoons of plain maple syrup when you could be making it into lemonade? It seems that you are wasting an opportunity to take in more detoxing elements...and since that is your purpose for this cleanse....why waste time taking in just the sugar?
2BNewme - Hi ! Good work on making beyond day 5 ! Headaches are usually detoxing from caffeine. My caffeine detox headaches usually last 2 days and then are gone. There was one time the headache was so bad that I took an aspirin. I figured the little bit of extra detoxing needed to clear out the effects of the aspiring were better than dropping the cleanse completely. I generally take an epsom salt bath and drink lots of water, which both help. The reason you are supposed to only make one drink at a time is for the freshness. Foods start to break down once they are exposed to air, and they start to lose their nutritional value as their "shelf life" increases. It is usually too difficult for me to make each glass separately - so I will make 2/3 day's at a time, rapidly drink 1 or 2 glasses, take the rest to work, then have some fresh stuff when I come home. You can REALLY taste the difference between the hours old lemonade and the just squeezed!!! As for breaking the fast: I am usually not as careful as I should be. I do one whole juice day, but I also do the SWF that morning and the next morning because my body still has not received any solid food to move my bowels along. I always make my own vegie soup - it's so easy and especially after a cleanse I just can't imagine putting something from a jar or box into my body. One of the moderators took my recipe and posted it on a veggie soup thread - so it's probably still on here somewhere. On the broth day, I usually have OJ for breakfast, then make the soup and have broth for lunch. You are only supposed to have broth that day, but I usually have the full soup for dinner. My stomach is just fine with that. The only time I have stomach troubles is if I start to eat "real" food too soon - no cramping, but it goes right through me and makes it not worth it to cheat on the re-entry process. The next day is usually all vegie soup - as much as I want. Oh - I now don't like veggie soup unless it has a LOT of cayenne!!! LOL. Next day is soup and salad. I need to use oil free salad dressing for that. Then I can eat regular food. I find that I always want fruit smoothies for at least a week afterwards. Also - the more water I drink during the cleanse and during the transition back, the better my results are!
Miclov - Yes, everyone pees alot. Sorry. The way I deal with having to feed my kids is: this is the time they can eat all of their easy favorites that I don't usually care for: frozen pizza, spaghetti and meatballs, hot dogs and fries, chicken nuggets, etc. Anything that doesn't tempt me.
Heidi000 - Possible reasons for bloating: incorrect mixture of the SWF ? Some people need a little more/less salt to match the saline ratio of their own blood. If the SWF does not match your blood, it doesn't pass through the colon and is absorbed and separated and can cause bloating. Other possible reason - your period ? The MC often changes a woman's cycle, bringing it on earlier than usual. And Yes, I always do the tea and the SWF during the transition period until I am taking in solid food to move my bowels. The books do not say you have to, but it is just logical.
Patunia - Hi. The "huge headaches, body aches" etc. you experienced last time WERE the detox. You prob. didn't feel too different afterwards because you still had more detoxing to do. Many people, including me need a lot more than just 10 days. Every cleanse is different and my wish for you is that you experience the super high energy days this time!!! On those days you feel like a GODDESS and you KNOW that the cleanse is working. Good luck to you!

Christene -
Seemed to only pass the SWF later….aren’t we supposed to have lots of movements during the day?
I noticed that I broke out in a cold sweat after the SWF and again after the first MC Lemonade.
The movements will vary for each person; I didn't really start have "good" eliminations until something like the fifth day. The cold sweat, possible disorientation feeling, vertigo, are all symptoms of a low blood pressure dip & a possible blood sugar dip. All part of the experience, as I have read in Peter's book & also on these forums.
My cleanse was over on May 12, but I am already looking forward to another, which I will probably do sometime in the early part of June.

My 2nd day I had a niggling headache that turned full blown migraine and throwing by evening. Really weird my outer thighs were spasming like they had a life of their own! Almost scary! The next day I woke up feeling great. I think it was a nasty detox of coffee, wine and food.

Well, I can't find my earlier veggie soup posting. There is a veggie soup thread on the first page of the Bulletin Board.
Most of these recipes are specific about their ingredients.
Mine is a basic "how to" recipe that you can modify to your taste. Here it is:
Take a big pot, and fill half way up with water, start to boil. Add 2 - 4 Bay leaves.
Wash, cut, and clean any vegetables you like and throw them in, as you go. Reduce heat to simmer and cover until all vegetables are soft (at least 1/2 hour, depends on what you put in there).
Taste the broth and add salt or seasoned salt to taste. Start with 1 teaspoon. Add more salt very slowly and cautiously, because once you put in too much, you can never take it out again.
When adding vegetables, start with the "hard" vegies first, and move to the softer ones:
Garlic, Onion, Carrots, Parsnips (love these in vegie soup!), celery, potatoes, brussel sprouts (halved), water chestnuts, brocoli, cauliflower, corn (asian mini corn or whole kernel), pea pods, zuchini, yellow squash, bell peppers, tomatoes, mushrooms, okra, peas. ( I often wait until the soup is done, then add some frozen peas. This cools the soup off while it cooks the peas).
You get the idea - you can add ANYTHING!! in any quantity you want, according to your tastes.
For the best broth: every time you steam vegies, save the colored (flavored) steaming water, and freeze. I keep a tupperware in the freezer and just keep adding the vegie water to it. Then when I make soup, I start with vegie flavored water right from the start. I just put the frozen veggie water in the pot, add regular water to the half way point, and follow the usual recipe.

hello,
i'm a newbie and just started today, i already feel great. prepared myself by eating mostly fruits and veggies for the last 3-4 days. the tea last nite gave me some cramps but nothing major and i liked knowing that things were getting started. half way thru the SWF this morning it was go time, couldn't believe how fast it worked. chugged the whole quart and was surprised that it wasn't so bad, when i first read of the MC i was definitely a bit nervous about how it would be to get down. i feel way more energetic and less hungry than when i was just eating veggies but i am a little lightheaded.
i love the taste of the lemonade, i think it's great and the cayenne doesn't bother me at all so i'll be loading it up. but i do have 1 question, should i sip the lemonade? i find that i like it so much that i drink it rather quickly.
i hope to exercise but will have to see how i feel, planning on doing light cardio, push ups, sit ups and super lite weight training with lots of reps. i'm going into this pretty much at my target weight so i don't want to lose too much muscle.
i'm really excited for all of the physical and mental benefits of the cleanse and i intend to do 15 days.
would love to hear from others just getting started too and i hope everyone's doing well out there.

Hi, this is my first cleanse. I am now on day 33, I've lost 21 pounds, I plan on continuing until day 39(due to scheduling) I feel wonderful. I am a little concerned about getting off the cleanse. I have read the book, just wondering if anyone has any advice, input, etc. When should I start taking vits and probiotics? Thanks

I am getting ready to start my first MC on Sunday, 5/31. I'm a little nervous about the side effects- particularly the frequency/urgency of excretion. However, I know this is something I need to do. I am constantly sluggish and bloated. I think this will be a good way to get my health back on track. A clean slate! :)

i would just get up as early as possible and do the SWF to make sure that you get it all out before you have to go to work or start your day. mine hit quickly and i haven't had any urges since.

day 4 for me, i'm so happy i'm done with the first 3 days. no more headaches, which is wonderful. i noticed that evenings are much easier for me than day time, which is funny cause i ususally get cravings at night. today i added juice from half orange to my lemonade, i just felt weak and that i'm not getting enough vitamins. even though it was only about 2 tbs it really adds some nice taste. i'm not looking forward towards the weekend, that's tough for me. i don't know what to do with myself. since i don't go to the gym while MC, i started doing push ups and jumping rope, it feels good to do some exercise. yesterday i went for Pilates, cause it has no cardio, and i had pain everywhere in my body. my muscles are still sore, but i kind of like that feeling cause i know it's burning fat, and building muscles.
my noodle soup (i cook noodles, preferably the thin ones, separetely) is similar. but to boiling water i add some chicken breast (for those that like meat) it definately gives a nice taste, protein and u get full faster. plus u can also use the meat, when it's cooked, by adding to rice, noodles, tomato sauce and make some veggies with it. once, the meat is cooking in the soup in the pot, i add celery, garlic (cut in little pieces) carrots, bay leaves, pepper (sometimes half of cabbage, it's so soft and delicios) u can definately add other vegies, but this is a traditional polish noodle soup, and that's where i'm from. i also use a tbs of vegeta, it's a great seasoning that has everything in it, so u don't need any salt, or any other seasoning. it can be hard to find it, sometimes they have it in acme or shop rite, in the international aisle. but if not that u can use the seasoning that can be found in any store, and it also has everything in it. i simmer my soup, between 2 to 3 hours. this way everything in it goes through the soup. it's the easiest thing to make a homemade soup, so u guys should try it. the soups that they sell in the store don't campare to homemade. they are salty, full of preservatives, and personally i can't stand the taste, it doesn't taste like chicken soup should. everyone have a great weekend, and be strong.

My 2nd day I had a niggling headache that turned full blown migraine and throwing by evening. Really weird my outer thighs were spasming like they had a life of their own! Almost scary! The next day I woke up feeling great. I think it was a nasty detox of coffee, wine and food.
Hang in there, it will get better.
That happened to me on my first day and first night only stopped around 10,00ish the day after.............and yes I think you are right about the coffee.
I am on Day 4 now and feeling better each day......hang in there

Diary Day three
Woke up at 10.00am and still taking my SWF very slowly with one result for SWF about an hour later. Then I started my MC lemonade at 11.00am followed by water at 11.30am continued this way for the rest of the day.
Noticed that I had an emotional reaction to someone who has been bothering me for a long time and got really angry (that’s not like me)………. Managed to get it all out and down into writing a poem about it all.
Has anyone else had emotional issues or anger rise up on this Master Cleanse?
I suppose it makes sense to me that along with the physical flush there could be an emotional flush as well…..interested to hear how everyone else feels about this?
Rather an uneventful day with a vague hazy feeling and foggy brain.
So how is everyone else doing out there?
Started day four already with my SW………..

Hello everyone! I'm a newbie. I have 100+ pounds to loose and so far things are wonderful. I've been on the master cleanse now for 12 days. I do not have the urge to eat or anything. I'm staying on for 40 days, then off, then back on. Like I said I have a lot of weight to loose. I too am on medication for asthma but I cannot stop taking it. I take diamox as well.

Has anyone else had emotional issues or anger rise up on this Master Cleanse?
Hi, Christene - yes, mood swings are very common on the cleanse. Part of it is that toxins locked in your system create emotional reactions when released into your bloodstream during a detox.
Right now am very depressed. I had about 48 hours of feeling on top of the world and then got 2 negative phone calls. Actually, they weren't that bad, but I am perceiving them negatively. At any rate, now I am feeling very down, worried about money, etc., even though my problems have not changed since yesterday when I felt confident that I could handle everything. Blah.
Today is my day 10 and tomorrow morning I will weigh myself. I didn't weigh myself to begin with so I will have no idea how much I may have lost. I just told myself to do this for the cleanse and not obsess about weight, so I put off the scale until day 11. I have, however, lost 4 inches off my waist in the past 9 days. :)

End of day four for me. This one by far has been the most painful with detox pains. I have done the MC 3 times before but this one has been painful. Day 2 I had the one of the worst migraines that I have ever had. It started at about 4am and lasted until after 5 pm that day. And today I have had this burning pain in my legs just above the knees and in my lower back over my hips. Hopefully tomorrow will go easier.

Diary Day Four
Woke up at 9.00 managed the SWF slowly and then had my usual reaction one hour later. First MC Lemonade at 10.30am followed by water half hour later and my meds………..continued in this vein till I went to town with my bottle of water and master cleanse tucked into my black Lemon Tote bag.
Sipped MCL till I returned with a Pepperoni Pizza for the rest of the family……….it was really strange as I enjoyed the aroma as it was being cooked and when it was reheated at home but did not have the normal Pavlov’s dogs reaction as I fought for my share of the Pizza……..it didn’t matter to me as I didn’t want any. Wow, now is that the best hunger management ever for me.
Around 4.15pm my hands were freezing and fingers looked like I was dehydrated???????????? Had a hot MCL and sipped water till 10.00pm took my meds followed by SM and went to bed.
Started day five (half way through the ten day MC already …..Yeeeeeeeeehaaaaaaaa: that’s a polite Australian way of saying that I am rather well pleased with myself). First movement before SWF this morning and let me warn any Newbies not to consider blinking, let alone sneezing before you are seated after taking the SWF……….grins!!!

It sounds like these headaches are an all to common occurance in the early stages of detox for many of us.........brings to mind the quote "No pain no Gain" so we must really be getting our pipes really clean and healthy right? Hoping this day is better for you.

Can someone tell me if this is still unwanted products leaving my body and do you recommend I continue? I have been very good on the cleanse, completing all required steps, and having, on average 6-8 glasses per day. I may have gone short on the cayenne in the first few days, but amped it up this past week. Days 3-5 my restless leg syndrome symptoms magnified by 100% and I could not sleep -- that has been my only issue and it, thankfully, those ended after the fifth day. It's 8:55 AM MST and I have not yet done the SWF, but did make my vegetable soup last night. Appreciate any guidance you can give me! Thanks!

It is going a bit better thank you for asking. No headache this time but my thigh muscles and lower back are still buring a good bit. I stopped at the store this morning on my way back from a prayer group and picked up some epsom salt and baking soda to make a detox bath. Hopefully that will help.
Funny thing is that when I was about 4 years old I had an operation on my right thigh and both hips and that's exactly the areas that are hurting me the most. After this long of a period of time you would have thought they wouldn't be causing a problem.
Now if I can just stay away from the FoodTV web site. :D

Hi Sierramagic! Did you weigh, how did you do? I only lost 4 lbs. after 8 days but lost an add'l 3 lbs. the next 3 days of coming off the cleanse. I don't want to gain it back. The biggest insight I had coming off, is no desire for junk and really trying to eat much, much, better. So far veges and fruit, a bit of yogurt for the good bacteria and probably 4 oz. chicken divided up over 2 days.
Also, I'm aware of every bite. Small plates, eat very slowly, savor, put down my fork and watch the portions size, small. I really have to think about it because if I don't I find myself wanting to heap the plate, take big mouthfuls, chomp and swallow. This experience has been such an eye opener to my eating habits and how much was mindless eating.
Weights staying off!:)

I'm on day 3 of my first MC and things are pretty awesome, I really think that eating mostly fruits and veggies for 3-4 days before has helped me a ton. i feel great and have tons of energy, have skipped rope moderately everyday for 20-25 minutes along with some push ups, light dumb bell exercises and sit ups. I had to water down the smooth move tea because I was having some uncomfortable cramps. I'm slamming down the SWF in 5 minutes, I think of it as a fun challenge to see how fast I can get it down. Toilet time isn't the most fun but it's not too bad, mine's usually over an hour after the flush and then I'm good for the day. I'm going heavy on the cayenne cause I love it and read that it helps to speed up the process. I also read about people using the 90,000 HU cayenne, I couldn't find it locally so I had to order it and I can't wait to rev it up even more. I'm pleasantly surprised at how not hungry and satiated I am, I just feel energized and focused on getting to 15 days. I work from home and it's been pretty slow so I just signed up to volunteer at the local boys and girls club. I've definitely had the urge to help out others more and more, I'm really excited about donating my time and energy and being a positive, creative influence for kids.
oh yeah, I've had mild-moderate psoriasis for the last 12 years and I am already noticing a difference in the affected areas.
Sorry to ramble, I guess I'm just buzzing with energy. Hope everyone's doing well!
Stay strong and true to what you set out to do!

Hi Sierramagic! Did you weigh, how did you do?
Hi, Wineless. I had not weighed myself before the cleanse started so I don't know how much I lost. I did weigh myself this morning and was really discouraged to see that I weighed so much. I wanted to wait to check the scale until it had gone down somewhat so I wouldn't get too depressed.
The first year I did the MC, I lost just under 50 lbs. (in a year). The second year I gained back about 15, but kept it from becoming more by doing one short cleanse a season. The second year I could not get motivated to do all the healthy eating and exercising that I had done between cleanses that first year. Well, this is year 3, and for some reason I gained about 6 inches in my waist very rapidly in April, even though I wasn't eating differently. I know I had gained weight back and was hoping I had not gained EVERYTHING back. One concern is that rapid weight gain in the lower abdomen can be a symptom of ovarian cancer. I did not have any of the other symptoms of ovarian cancer, but it still had me concerned. So, I realized, I had to go back on the MC NOW !!! And as I said, I lost 4 inches off my waist already. So I am not as worried. But am discouraged to see on the scale that I had gained so much back. Oh, well, nothing to do but carry on.
Christene - yes, I am planning on 21 days. One thing that helps with the food cravings during the cleanse is to take a different approach to the temptation of the wonderful smells. Instead of thinking of it as torture, I pretend that I am not just smelling, but actually tasting the food. It is amazing how well this works!! Your sense of smell is so intensified on the MC, that you can use it to imagine the taste and texture of the food in your mouth. It actually can be pretty satisfying. I still try to avoid temptation...but when the aroma of good food hits me in a surprise attack, I try to remember to turn it around by imagining I am eating. The food dreams, on the other hand, are harder to control. Last night I dreamt I was eating an over-easy egg and dipping wheat toast in it. yummmmm.
Take care and stay strong! :)

Yes now that you mentioned it the sense of smell is heightened I sat drinking a Peppermint tea in Wndy's takeaway whilst I watched everyone else eat , the smell there wasnt that good but the pizza the day before was heavenly to smell. Thats a good idea to take into all of your senses like that.

Diary Day Five
Up at 9.30 took the usual SWF and one hour later after my trip to the loo I got ready to go to town with my Lemon pack filled with water and MC Lemonade. First time I had not awoken with a backache needing a hot pack to ease the pain.
Sipped the MCL all between shopping, doing laundry grabbing a bite to eat at Wendy’s fast food store (not my idea). I asked for a cup of hot water to put my own peppermint tea bag into….the cashier asked what tea it was to I gave her a smell of the empty packet as it smells so strong and said it was great for an upset tummy (no lie there….let her think that was the reason I was not ordering a meal with the rest of the folk) and she said “Organic as well where did you get it?”
Everyone else had the usual big meals ……I didn’t even enjoy the smell here.
My husband said he watched a program yesterday morning and the Wendy’s burger was the healthiest and lowest in calories (it’s the first time he has looked at improving his eating habits so there is hope for him yet….I am telling him the benefits I am noticing to me and not nagging him to change…….that has to be his decision alone).
Then we took in a movie (they wouldn’t allow any of my own food or drinks in there so bought a small water to sip at $3.00+ ……….outrageous price). My mouth is so very dry all the time that I have to keep sipping something.
I am relaxing opening up and talking more and becoming a more social person today.
Really tired that night so went to bed an hour earlier after My SM tea and meds…. (I am so vague I cant remember if I took my morning meds at all……???.........is that a Freudian slip, my body telling me I don’t need them any more……..mmmmmmmmm.
Started day six and the SWF result is so foul, now I know why I was feeling so tired and ill all the time carrying that around in my body. That does it for me never, never again. It’s a raw healthy foods diet for me in the future.

Good Sunday Morning Everyone-
I'm just so pumped about this program I can't help but post. Never did much of that before.
I'm 6 days post, 8 day cleanse. Have kept the 4 lbs. off I lost and have lost an add'l 4.5 lbs. My goal is 14 lbs. total so 5.5 lbs. to go.
This has been such an epiphany for me. So aware of food, want good food, eat way smaller amounts, eat slowly and incorporating as much raw as possible. I'll never be 100% raw as I do like soups, cooked veges and meat/fish. However, the bulk of my diet is raw. So far lots of veges and fruits. Some yogurt, almond milk and small amounts of chicken and fish. Last night I had my first small glass of red wine. No grains yet. Did find some sprouted corn tortillas, that sounds exciting but not ready yet to add. Breads, grains will be the last I will add.
Last night was a wonderful greek salad and barbequed wild sockeye salmon. My meat is limited to about 2 oz. and that seems to do the trick. Mainly eat slow and small amounts no matter what it is.
Doing green smoothies, a bit more fruit than greens as I haven't quite aquired a taste for them.
I had finished the cleanse and went to the Dr. for followup borderline hypertension. It tipped over to high, 148/95 so he put me on high blood pressure med. My goal is to continue this way of eating and get myself off the meds as soon as possible. Runs in our family so my dr. is not sure I'll accomplish this but told me to go for it.
I have dieted all my life from high school on, over 30 yrs. and always looking for the next miracle diet. Always leaned toward high protein. This is the ultimate program! I feel so healthy and in control and my appetite miniscule. I love this! Hang in there everyone and if I don't bore you too much I'll keep posting my experiences.;)

can you tell me why the baking soda as well as I havent heard of that before?
The baking soda is to help remove chlorine from the water as well as help with the adsorption of the magnesium. It comes from this link: http://www.wikihow.com/Take-a-Detox-Bath posted by someone on this board a while ago (sorry I don't remember who to give credit to).
The pain in my leg and back come and go right now sometimes its bad enough to take my breath away. Nothing really seems to make it completly stop other than not moving or moving a whole lot (getting the blood flowing) Gonna get on the treadmill and work up a sweat then take another epsom bath to see if that helps.
I had a really neat idea last night Hawaiian Shaved Ice LA's:
Mix up your lemon juice, maple syrup and cayenne pepper then go to your local Hawaiian shaved ice place and get a plane snow cone and then add the lemon/syrup mixture to the top :)

I am at the start of Day 16 of my first fast and thinking about ending it. I began the fast as I was in serious need of detox (the accompanying weight loss -- 10 lbs -- is a happy bonus). I feel ready to end, but wonder if I should continue on account of I cannot tell what my current eliminations (a.m. only, and seem to be tissue-y and what resembles (for lack of a better way to describe it) brown pulp. Can someone tell me if this is still unwanted products leaving my body and do you recommend I continue?
Hi Kookie - I can't say for sure about the pulpy eliminations. I have noticed that sometimes days after only having butt-pee, I will get something solid, or pulpy that I can only assume dislodged itself or is a different type of toxin that condensed in my bowels. A friend of mine who is also a multi-cleanser believes that our eliminations will always be like the lemon juice plus MS and cayene before water is added - her theory explains the "pulp" effect. MY THEORY - We use the elements in the lemonade, so I think they should be broken down. If they appear the same coming out as when they went in, were they even used? I have been thinking that if my bowels were perfectly cleansed, like a newborn baby's, that the SWF would go right through and be clear or virtually clear. I have gotten to a point where it was light yellow just like urine. But this is not on the first try. I usually have to make 5 -6 bathroom runs for my daily SWF gig. And my eliminations have only been like urine at the end of a cleanse, on the last half of the SWF eliminations. Sometimes during the day I will have to go, and those often have odd components: oil (?), solids, worms (!!) (only happened twice)
The BB recommends using your tongue coating as a guide for how long to stay on, rather than using your BMs. There is a really cool link to a tongue coating website posted in the tongue coating thread on the front page of the BB.

Then we took in a movie (they wouldn’t allow any of my own food or drinks in there so bought a small water to sip at $3.00+ ……….outrageous price). My mouth is so very dry all the time that I have to keep sipping something.
My "going to the movies on the MC" tip - I make a small water bottle full of the lemonade and put it in my purse. Then I go to a grocery store or fast food place and get a large cup of ice. This is usually free, some stores charge 15 cents or so for it. You can't just get a cup of ice in our movie theatres, they charge you the same $5 as for a regular soda. They won't let you bring in your own food. But they will let you bring in a large cup of plain ice. If they ask about it I say different things - but mainly I tell the truth, " I like to chew on ice and you guys charge $5 for a cup of ice." Sometimes I say I'm on a fast; sometimes I say "hot flashes" because that shuts people up real fast, esp. men. (Even though I have not ever had hot flashes yet). In the theatre, I pour the lemonade on the ice cubes and sip it slowly. Then I have lemonade flavored ice cubes to suck on through the movie.

today is the first day of my cleanse- and I'm already a bit nervous, mostly due to hunger. i drank my tea last night and did my first SWF this morning. it worked well, but i am starving! i know the first days are the worst for hunger, but i haven't grown accustomed to the lemonade flavor yet. my question is- have you found that the lemonade tastes better warm, hot, or cold? Any insight would help. I am dedicated to making it the full ten days! :)

KristeO2,
I love your motivation and enthusiasm. :D Welcome to the MC support group! :)
Your posting didn't communicate how soon you plan to repeat the MC or how extensive you have researched fasting  ; so, I've provided some information. An extended cleanse is doable; but, please be cautious on the frequency between any cleanse. If I may suggest, moderation is a good rule to follow. There is a cause and effect for every solution and some of the side effect are not healthy or life promoting.
Just in case you haven't began the research, you may find this information a good starting point. See the link for Newbies in my signature block; also, Res (a site moderator) is a wealth of information.
Page 16 of Stanley Burroughs' book states, “Three to four times a year will do wonders for keeping the body in a normal healthy conditions” [sic]. Peter Glickman supports Stanley's recommendation. See Page 99 of Peter's book.
Page 40 of Peter's book states, “To prevent weight coming back, be sure you eat at least 50% fresh raw vegetables and fruit and if you do eat meat and/or dairy, do a salt water flush the next day. Exercise will also help get your metabolism going to burn calories and to move the fluids in your body. In addition to all this,I recommend doing the Master Cleanse when you feel you need a boost-at least twice a year.
Here's a link about losing weight too fast: http://www.ehow.com/about_4567001_losing-weight-fast.html I'm sure you can find more opinions on this topic.
I have found staying well hydrated is very important to preventing a sluggish digestive system. Peter recommends non-tap water as a health-restoring regimen, Page 152. When you are not on the cleanse, try drinking one ounce of non-tap water for every two pounds of body weight.
Peter also states on Page 36, “ Being so focused on losing pounds that you don't notice you're losing inches,” to be one of “The 12 Most Common Pitfalls”. If you are exercising you will gain muscle and muscle is heavier than fat.
Victoria Bounteko's books are a great source of information. Also, “The Live Food Factor” by Susan Schenck. Alex of Raw for Thirty, LLC interviewed Susan. Listen to his interview here: http://www.rawfor30days.com/SusanSchenk.html.
You have come to the right place to support you in reaching your goals; and, I wish you success in achieving your healthy lifestyle endeavor!

Hello MC'ers! :D
Day 2 is great! We are full of energy. Nothing like yesterday. SWF worked superbly today :D
Day 1: I was cold, tired, and hungry. My husband only experience the latter two detox symptoms. Thirty minutes after the SWF, I was flushing :p ...Not so for my hubby :( It was late in the day when I realized I hadn't drank my minimum of six Lemonades; so, I drank the remaining 30 oz. by 7PM. I won't make the same mistake today. I don't want to get up all night using the restroom :( My hubby's gone to the store, accompanied by his Klean Kanteen of lemonade, to purchase mint and laxative tea and lemons to last the next 2-3 days. I will put my energy to use and clean my teenage son's bathroom.
Well, if I don't visit the site before the weekend, I hope your MCing week is what you hope it will be!
Ciao!

Hi. I just received my master cleanse products and I would like to know when you suggest I begin. I wanted to start tomorrow - which is Monday, but I'm thinking that it might be best to start over a weekend, so that I can be home. I am also taking medications for spinal surgery I had in March. I take neurontin and baclofin - should I continue to take these medications? There are two main reasons I want to start this new "lifestyle" - the first is to get rid of all of the poisons that have been put into my body these last few months due to surgeries and medications, the other reason is vanity - I want to loose weight desparetly. I have been in a wheelchair and unable to move for so long, and now that I have the ability to walk and function as I did before, I find it difficult - I am very much out of shape, I also have a class reunion comng up in a few months and to be honest = I don't want to be the same frumpy fat person I was back then. You're advise is greatly appreciated. Thank you. :)

Hello WineLess!
Congratulations on your success! :D :D Don't ever give up! I too have hypertension with a genetic background. :( By the way, there are lots of great raw soups recipes out there. 8) I know the more vegan-raw my diet, hydration (spring water), exercise (including weight training), rest (7-8 hours of sleep), and oxygen (deep breathing) I get, the better my BP reading.
I complete lab work quarterly before going to the doctor to check my stats. The meds were compromising my kidney function. It is my goal to stay away from meds. I charted my BP for a month before going to my last visit with my doctor. He noticed my readings were within normal range on weekends. Over the past two years, I have reduced my BP; and, I too hope to change my BP so I don't have to take meds.
I stay away from all canned products (too much sodium). I limit eating out as much as possible...too much sodium (even vegan and raw restaurants). I love catsup (too much sodium), so I eat it in moderation...I found Ani Phyo's sun-dried tomoato catsup recipe great. I make it occasionally.
Check out www.rawfor30days.com if you haven't heard about it. Even though the test subjects' goals were to eliminate diabetes, they also realized reduced BP. Also, I am finding Susan Schenck's “The Live Food Factor” a good source of information. Here's a link to an audible interview she did recently http://www.rawfor30days.com/SusanSchenk.html.
Have you read Victoria Bounteko's “Green for Life”? She claims, “ greens are an excellent source of protein [and] are the primary food group that matches human nutritional needs most completely” (page 39).
Take care and good luck!

Hi fellow cleansers! Kim here, long time no see :)
I'm a little over half-way through with day 7 and this was just what my body needed. When I was finished the last time I weighed 135. I have been mostly raw since. Also I've had a series of four colonics while doing the Colon Cleansing Kit by Blessed herbs(amazing results, not so much in the weight but what I saw come out ). So at one point I actually hit 129lbs. but right before this cleanse I got back up to 131-33 (135 the morning of, I thought a good/fast/easy/cheap bean burrito and tostada from Taco Bell would make a good last bad meal:rolleyes:) My great joy today is that I weighed in at 125.7 ;) finally hitting my goal weight since Christmas!
I've been vegetarian since Sept 08, and on both of these cleanses I've been craving chicken! I'm an "eat it in your head person" so I've been, mentally speaking, eating many a tortured bird the last few days. I know that I'm detoxing this big time. The first two cleanses I detoxed pizza like mad. Now unfortunantly it's Papa Murphy's stuffed chicken bacon! Or just the chicken any other way I can dream up. I guess it just seemed weird to me to still be detoxing chicken, but now that I think about it, I'm sure it is just absolutely loaded with toxins.
I've been a bit touchy too but have gotten a lot accomplished. Things that I've been putting off for the last 6 months!
Two of my friends have since done this. My friend Curtis started a day before me and ended this morning as he'd lost 13 lbs and has a golf event for Mon and Tue that includes travel (his excuse not mine ;)) He really did do amazing though. Especially considering he is on some kind of BP medication (a small dose) and this was his first cleanse or fast of any kind:D. My other friend Jim has gone 40 plus days (a few brief falls off the wagon) and now seems to be making this into some kind of a lifestyle :), which has us both just cracking up. He told me last night that he has been eating nothing for the past 2 days "in solidarity" with me. How cool is this?!
When I started these cleanses about 6 months ago or so I was 164 lbs (167 at my highest), so 40 lbs down couldn't feel better!
The clothes that fit me at the end of my last cleanse (Jan 09), I've since Good-willed, as they were too big :) :D I'm excited to see my muffin top going down now 8) and totally loving me new body!
I hope to get rid of this ciggarette habit I have on one of these cleanses. One thing at a time though but I'd really love to walk/jog a marathon in September...
Happy cleansing all! Kim

Hi there --
I am starting my first cleanse tomorrow morning for health reasons rather than weight loss. I am a fibromyalgia sufferer and would like to see if this helps relieve the symptoms. I am a bit confused as to whether or not to use the SWF on the first morning, or just start with the lemonade/maple drink. I am hoping I can make it. I am a hairstylist and I am a bit worried about the bathroom breaks I may have to take. Not quite conducive to my workstyle.... Any tips would be appreciated, as would any encouragement. Thanks.

Day 6, my 2nd cleanse. been about five years since 1st one, but did a minor juice fast maybe 3 yrs ago. having the same motivations as you. American diet weighing me down...I've found that steaming/sauna time has been super helpful, especially first few days with headaches. go more than once a day if possible. Be mindful though to drink tons of water and perhaps even have the lemonaid before or after depending on how you feel. definitely drink extra water and have it w/ in the sauna/steamer. the steam/sauna seems to help alleviate the headaches faster. Good luck w/ your cleanse.

Hi Marjum99
Since your surgery was only two months ago and you are still taking medication, you should consult your physician before beginning any detox program. Give your body a chance to recover. You have time to do this in a way that will improve your total being. The Newbies link in my signature bar has a wealth of information from senior members. I found the info below on this site that also recommends you do not do the cleanse at this time. Hang in there, your time will come.
• People recovering from surgery should not do the MC
The body requires much more protein when it is healing from surgery or otherwise rebuilding flesh. Therefore, until a person is recovered, she or he should not do the Master cleanse.
Peter http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/showthread.php?t=644
Who shouldn't try juice fasting
* It is important to consult a qualified health professional before trying a juice fast.
* Pregnant or nursing women and children should not try a juice fast.
* People with diabetes, low blood sugar, eating disorders, kidney disease, liver disease, malnutrition, addictions, underweight, anemia, impaired immune function, gout, asthma, infection, nutritional deficiency, low blood pressure, ulcerative colitis, cancer, terminal illness, epilepsy, or other chronic conditions should only fast under strict medical supervision.
* People should not try juice fasts before or after surgical procedures.
* Fasting can reduce blood proteins and change the way prescription drugs react in the body.
People taking prescription medications should consult a health professional skilled in detoxification before trying a juice fast, and should never discontinue or reduce their medications on their own. Taken from http://altmedicine.about.com/od/deto...ce_fasting.htm
People with life-threatening conditions should not fast, especially those who are emaciated due to cancer, TB, or AIDS. Both Type I and Type II diabetics should be under supervision if they decide to fast, but it is not recommended. Pregnant women, infants, and those with kidney failure are discouraged from fasting. Anyone who takes prescribed medication should avoid fasting because of unpredictable reactions. People with liver disease and anaemia should avoid long fasts. http://www.vanderbilt.edu/AnS/psycho...ology/fast.htm

i haven't grown accustomed to the lemonade flavor yet. my question is- have you found that the lemonade tastes better warm, hot, or cold? Any insight would help. I am dedicated to making it the full ten days! :)
Hi Britannsmi - Several things can be done to adjust to the flavor of the lemonade, but it all boils down to one thing: Mix it Up ! one day lemonade, one day limeade, one day lemon-lime. Some days maple syrup, some days agave. Some days room temp., some days on ice, some days hot (although heating does lessen the nutritive value, so go easy on the hot lemonades - they are still useful for cold winter mornings or when you get the "coldies" on the MC). Some days I like my lemonade watered down, some days I like it concentrated (but then you have to drink extra water on the side to make sure you get enough water to help you detox). Also you can change the amount of cayenne in the lemonade - Burroughs says you can put in cayenne "to taste."
Hope this helps.

Hi Keyla, my name is Tracy. I am on day 3 of my very first master cleanse :D, so far so good! I started to wonder if I was doing it correctly because I don't seem to mind any of the tastes and I have had no real adverse side affects ( i had bought of tiredness yesterday but went away with a brief nap). I have lost 3 lbs in the first 2 days so I think I'm doing it right, plus I looked at the recipe again. hope you do well, stay strong!;)

hi Marjun. i think starting the cleanse during the week is mich easier than on the weekends. for me, the wekends are the worst. thats when u want to go out and eat, or cook something good by yourself. for me personally, i always start on monday and i'm always scaredm for the weekends, it seems than that's when i think about food the most. the medication u should continue taking. i am taking diiferent medications as well and for our own safety i think we should continue with it. good luck with the cleanse and i'm sure u'll do good.:)

hey everyone, it's day 6 for me and i'm glad day 10 is comming soon :p i was scared of the weekend but somehow i managed to escape the cravings. today, i'm not hungry, but i feel weak, and pain in my body, especially my muscles, i feel like i'm dragging my feet. my head was spinning in the morning and all i'm thinking about is taking a nap, so i think i will take one soon. many of u guys say that ur scared of gaining the weight back. i am too, but i think if we try we can keep it off, at least half of it, because the other half comes back within few days. we all know it's water, and our bodies are made up from 80% of water, so whatever we lost, some has to come back :( i think the biggest problem with our eating in America is the time we eat dinner. any big meals should be consumed the latest by 6pm. so before we go to bed our bodies will have time to digest some of the food. other countries, have much earlier dinner time, and later on they have a little "supper" , and that's why they don't have as much problems with weight as we do. when i finish my cleanse i'll be sure to eat early dinner, and in the evening when i'm hungry i'll have a piece of fruit, yogurt or nuts. i have friends that don't do the MC and they lost weight just by not eating at night. i know it's hard, cause the evenings is the time when i get my cravings, like many people, but i heard after 2 weeks ur body gets use to not having much food at night. i'm sure there r times that we will be eating later, like weddings, parties or going out to eat. but that's why we should control what we eat during the week. have a great day everyone and keep enjoying ur lemonade.

Today is my day 13. I was kind of depressed all yesterday afternoon & evening - was feeling like it would be the most natural thing in the world to just go to the store and get some food to eat. This was surprising as I went to a pot-luck in the early afternoon, stayed strong, didn't eat a thing !!
I hardly ever put myself in temptation's path. But this couldn't be avoided. I was worried that everyone would make a big deal out of my not eating. Instead, no one seemed to notice, as it was not a sit-down event. People were walking around, and I think just assumed that I had already eaten a plate when talking to someone else. Also, at the end there were left over brownies and the girl who made them was trying to get people to take them home - so I took some (for my kids) and when I did, I could feel they were very moist - so I said, "They are so moist !" and everyone agreed and assumed I knew this because I had already had one. I felt very proud of myself for all this. So it was a big surprise to crash about an hour later and want to go to a store or a fast food place.
What I did instead - headed over to the nearest Redbox and rented 3 movies, watched 2 back to back, and then took an epsom salt bath... I was still depressed when I went to sleep, but I made it. And guess what? I've lost 5 lbs. in the last 2 days !!! So...feeling better this morning. :)

Diary Day Six
Hey I am discovering a hidden waistline over here.
Started my day at 9.30 with the usual SWF....which wasnt so bad today I must have had the right drinking temperature for me.
The rest of the day I alternated water and MCL.
It was an uneventful day with nothing to really report.
I felt wonderful all day doing lots of housework etc.
I had an early night after the usual SM tea.
Started Day Seven………so this is what everyone talks about “day seven being a tough one”. I cant get warm am feeling cold so off to take a hot tub if nature will allow me..........I keep running to the loo all the time today (not like the usual one visit)? I seem to be making more and more trips as the days progress

If at first you don’t succeed you try and try again….I plan to start my 10 days tonight with the laxative tea. I have started many times but without fail something always happens to get me off track. Last January I became very sick with fever etc. and have not been well this entire year but hopefully I can do this cleanse and get my health on track. I need to exercise but don’t have the energy. I am forgetful and disorganized. I get depressed because I don’t feel well. I too have Fibromyalgia and believe that it is a major cause of my lack of energy, attention deficit and pain. I am in my late 60’s, height 5’3” and weigh 135 pounds so I am not concerned about weight loss but it would not hurt me to lose about 10 or so pounds.
Hope I don't whine too much but I know that I will be needing your support.

Just went in to start dinner and realized that at the cost of things I have for too much fresh produce in the fridge to let it set there for over a week and ruin. I must not let it waste. Sooo instead of starting my cleanse on the first of June I will choose another time later.

Hi Tracy, I am on the first day and I feel the same way. I was tired today at work and the lemondade didn't bother me at all. I have about 30 more ounces to drink and im done for the day. I heard from a couple of people that the third day was the hardest, make or break you. Looks as though your doing great!!. This is what i mix together, I use 60 ounces of water, 12 tbls of lemon juice(fresh squeezed) and 12 tbls of maple syrup which is 3/4 cup. I used 1/2 tsp of cayenne. I can tell you this I drank the smooth move tea last night before bed and drank the SWF this morning and I went straight to the bathroom. I used the bathroom literally at work for the next hour or so to where my hiny is sore:(!! So I hope it's working, I feel bloated but I hope in time that goes away since this is the first batch. I'm trying to hang on for 14 days, what about you?

Hi All!
I'm Lopey, I was here a few years ago for the first time and am back after a long break! I did my first cleanse in Jan 2007, for 40 days!! Since then I've done two other substantial ones (10 days and 12 days) and several a-bit-too-short attempts of around 5 days. This time I am going for at least another 10 days, hopefully more!
Today is the 1st June and also a Monday so in my opinion the perfect day to start! :-)
Wish me luck, I will try to post here regularly to help me get through this thing, and hopefully help others with my previous experiences.
This was great last time, I am hoping for good results this time too!

Day 3 of MC#5, 17 days to go, but it's a joy to be fasting again, good to hit the re-set button every now and then.
It's amazing how one's senses sharpen even after the first day. Cooked a jerk spiced beer can chicken for the wife on the BBQ, it smelled incredable, and I don't even eat meat...........
Almost no detox symptoms this time around either, gets better and easier with each one.
Plenty of rough days to come, I'm sure, but so far, so good.
Good Luck to All, stick with it, the rewards are worth the sacarifice!

Hi everyone! I am back again as well - I started cleanse number 2 and caved at day 5! So here I go full throttle starting tomorrow!! This time I would like to work out, at least doing cardio and maybe some weights. Anyone with any input about working out along with the cleanse? I had energy during the first one, hopefully this one too:) Good luck to you all - look forward to reading your posts. I am shooting for 15 days!!!! Here we go:)

RE: Question for Moderator - Please answer
Day 1 - I did not start the day with a SWF as my question was not answered and I preferred to be more conservative. Finished the six lemonades and I find that I am not hungry. I went to the Dr. today and was told my blood pressure was a bit too high. They want me to get a blood pressure monitor for home use and eliminate salt from my diet. Now I am concerned about the SWF. So I have a question -- Would the SWF raise your blood pressure or does it flush out rather quickly?
I am drinking the Smooth Move tea, but I do not like the taste. Was never a fan of licorice so I'm guessing that is the reason.

Congrats on your accomplishment and your weight loss! I'm still going strong sticking to a healthy diet, feels so good. Hope to lose a bit more tomorrow morning. Still at 8.5 loss but it's staying off and that's more important right now:), my body adjusting to the weight loss. The longer I stay there the more I know it's not just water.

I'm ready for Day2. I enjoy the taste of the lemonade and it was not that hard I'm only thinking about doing the cleanse for 5 days. Has any one done a short cleanse before? Was it enough?

Hi paintedlady,
Congrats on your decision on a path to better heath through natural methods! The SWF is intended to be taken on the morning of the first day. A 1/2 hr. or so after that, you are to start w/ the Lemonade. Sorry your question wasn't addressed earlier, I haven't been on for a few days so this is the first time I noticed it.
But, don't sweat it; Missing one day of the SWF won't be the end of the world.
I am not really sure of the answer to that question, & I wouldn't want to give incorrect advice. Did you mention the SWF to your doctor? To me, it seems that it would be okay, as the intention of the flush is not to be absorbed, but rather to "go through" the body.
The books that Stanley & Peter put out do address some of the questions in more detail, you might want to think about purchasing them. As far as the Smooth Move tea goes, they do make a "chocolate" version of the tea. To me, it has a "nut-like" flavor, although others seem to taste more of a coffee flavor. You might want to try that for variation.
Hi sdb48207,
I enjoy the taste of the lemonade and it was not that hard I'm only thinking about doing the cleanse for 5 days. Has any one done a short cleanse before? Was it enough? Peter & others have mentioned that they have done 5 day cleanses & felt that it wasn't enough. My advice is to stick it out for the 10 days & reap the full benefits! :)

Hello everyone!!!
It has been a long time since I have been here, but I am now back on the Master Cleanse and back on the Bulletin! Today is Day #1 and I have to be honest and say that I absolutely detest the SWF. I haven't drank any of it in over five minutes, and I am still having a hard time holding back the gags and I am extremely nauseated! I honestly don't know if I will be able to do them every day, and I hope that does not hurt my progress.
I am, however, looking forward to the lemonade and having a good Day 1. Unfortunately, I had a wreck not long ago, and have lived on pain killers ever since. So I am now facing withdrawals from that as well as a major coffee addiction.
But this is going to be a good day and it is nice to be back and hear from all of you!!! Have a great day, no matter what!

hi Marjun. i think starting the cleanse during the week is mich easier than on the weekends. for me, the wekends are the worst. thats when u want to go out and eat, or cook something good by yourself. for me personally, i always start on monday and i'm always scaredm for the weekends, it seems than that's when i think about food the most. the medication u should continue taking. i am taking diiferent medications as well and for our own safety i think we should continue with it. good luck with the cleanse and i'm sure u'll do good.:)
Hi Marjun, my name is Tracy. I started the mc last friday and for me the weekend was so easy to get thru, I went to work last night and had a major headache so I gave in and ate food to get rid of it. If I was at home I could have just taken a nap. So I have to say weekend was a good start for me, look at your schedule and only you can decide when will you have more free time in the beginning of the mc, thats when most of the negative side effects hit (it sounds like it n e way from reading the board). I wish you the best. bty, I am sticking to it even though I ate food last night...just pick my self up and try try try again.

Day one for me - getting ready for my first lemonade of the day. I heat it in the morning and usually later in the afternoon. SWF is done and over, it's not my favorite part, but get through it! Getting ready to leave for work....got my large lemonade for the road! I didnt have time for my workout this morning, so i'll try to do it when i get home. Keep me accountable!!! I'm excited to be cleansing again!
courtneyK - it's day one for me as well - we can keep in touch for motivation!!
painted lady - I tried the chocolate smooth move and it's got a whole different flavor than the regular - you may want to give it a try as juicerkatz suggested
sdb - I agree with juicerkatz, I fell off the cleansing wagon recently after only 5 days and I didnt feel it was long enough. I'd try to go for the ten days so you can experience all the good things that come to your body and mind!!
Wineless - you are an inspiration!! keep up the good after-cleansing work! That's awesome that you are eating healthy and keeping the weight off - I hope to follow in your footsteps and thanks for continuing to add your support on the board even after you are finished - it's great to hear success stories like yours!
sierramagic - you are almost there! nice job - how long are you going for?
petunia - are you going for 10 days? weekends seem harder for me as well - i feel like i should treat myself to dinner out or something just because it's the weeeknd!! Funny how we treat ourselves with food - instead i have to pamper with hot baths, reading a good book, ect. It's just not the same lol
Good luck to everyone on the board - there are quite a few who started yesterday so you'll be a day ahead of me so we can compare notes!

Diary Day Seven
I awoke feeling fantastic with no backache or stiffness in my limbs and the SWF was easier to take……….whhhhhhhhheeeeeeeee!!!!
I started increasing my cayenne pepper a little.
My sense of smell is so acute and heightened, incredible: so is my sense of taste today: as I have to rinse out the mugs and glasses numerous times before I could use them as I could still smell and taste the washing up detergent on them from last night. I can taste the difference between the bitter tap water (which I immediately spat out) and the sweet spring water (we collect our own)…. I take a mouthful to rinse out my mouth with after the SWF. It took over three hours for my system to cleanse of SWF today
And that’s where the good part of the day finished….I got depressed and went into a blue funk for no reason then started craving food….any food I just had to eat. Then read the latest posts on this site, sent out a desperate SOS before I headed to the place of least resistance the dreaded kitchen that was enticing me by singing siren songs to me……think I lost it at this point. Grabbed a glass of water and threw that down followed by a tbs of maple syrup which I kept in my mouth for as long as possible whilst I was making a hot cup of MC Lemonade with lots of cayenne pepper which I sipped slowly………sigh! Crisis averted, I managed to get through it. I kept saying I only have to get through this day tomorrow will be better.
Put away 7 water and lemonade and 1tbs maple syrup for the day total.
Today is day 8 and just put away my SWF………

hi Courtney, i wish u luck on the MC, since u done it in the past i'm sure u'll be fine now. i also can not do SWF. every time i has a sip, it came right back. so i drink the tea in the morning and at night. and for me, i actually have better results, than doing the salt. so, definetely try the tea in the morning. i know many people have trouble drinking the salt, so the best solution for us is the tea. have a good day.

Hi Tsan, I just started today (Tuesday) as well! This is my 4th cleanse and I've gone 10 days on all of the previous 3. I am shooting for 10 this time as well. I have worked out with light cardio and weights during previous cleanses and I was fine -- even found I had more energy sometimes than normally do. But make sure you're drinking tons of water afterward or you'll really feel achy and tired the next day. Good luck!!

I'm on Day 9 and I have to tell you I feel pretty bad. I really thought by now I'd have more energy and be clearheaded and I feel the complete opposite. Sluggish, tired, headache, and I'm hungry...really hungry. I'm wondering what's wrong because I've heard that I should be reaping the benefits and I'm certainly not. I'm vegan raw, been a vegetarian for 20 years and a Nutritional Consultant. I'm trying the MC so that I can recommend it to my clients but I can say that as of right now...I don't think I could. So disappointing...:(

Hi tracy, I haven't had a headache, but parts of my body like in my shoulders were aching today. I also did not sleep well last night...not one bit!!! I tossed and turned and moaned all night. It may have been the tea not sure. I woke up this morning and did the SWF just a cup and i eliminated. Let me back up a bit, i eliminated in the wee hours of the morning. It has been hard for me because I'm a vegetarian and I was sick of cabbage and collard greens. But when I came home yesterday my hubbie had made some collard greens and chic peas:( It smelled so delicious!! But I just came up stairs and took a shower and stayed in my room the rest of the night:o I keep telling myself im not going to give up but i keep dreaming about chic-fila for some odd reason. I would like to make 14 days but right now I'm just trying to make it til friday:confused: if you get discouraged maybe we can chat during the day. I'm usually on facebook all day at work...just let me know and we will pull through this:)

Yes, I did 8 days, 7 more than I thought I could do!;) I think whatever you can do is better than not at all. I did very well; lost 4 lbs. and then an add'l 4 during this last week transitioning to food. It
helped me so much to start clean and I could really focus on making good food choices each day. I find it very enlightening. I hope to do at least 3 days every quarter and if I go longer than 3, then good for me. :)

Since you already lead a very healthy life, you may not have been that toxic. Could be a chance you could have shortened it? Was there a day in the 9 days you felt good? Maybe that was all you needed?

I'm starting MC number 6- or maybe 7? tomorrow. It never seems to get easier to begin, though once I get into it I generally can follow through. Mine is totally a mental battle. I'm going to take the good advice of some people on the board and definitely do it one day at a time, focusing on the benefits of fasting- the weight loss especially- and trying to remain really positive...
good luck all!

OK. So I've been viewing this board for a couple of days but have now FINALLY made up my mind to just do it-again. I did this in 05 and have great success. Was so proud of the discpline that I never thought that I had, how I felt and of course my weightloss. I attempted to starty Thurs and Fri but gave up after going to my BFF' s bridal shower- it was a sit down-where even though I was not hungry I could smell the food, wanted the taste and felt the pressure. I am starting today. I plan to go until the 15th and then wean myself off. Wish me luck.

Hi MaryAnn, What a bummer :( Sorry to hear you are having such a difficult time. My husband is 95 percent vegan raw and he cannot stay on a cleanse for more than 5 days, unlike two years ago when we made the transition. He completed 20 days. I of course, at 90-95 percent raw, and carrying more fat than he, have no problem completing extended fasts. We are completing our 4th day and he is tired. I have lots of energy. He may not make it past Day 5.

I am drinking the Smooth Move tea, but I do not like the taste. Was never a fan of licorice so I'm guessing that is the reason.
Hi Paintedlady,
Page 21 of Peter's book, states "The reason for two teaspoons of salt is to increase (specific gravity) of the salt water until it matches the weight of blood...when the salt water and the blood are the same, the body will treat the salt water as though it were blood, not absorb it from the digestive system, and will just "flush" the salt water throught he system instead of absorbing it. You might occasionally need to increase the amout of salt in the water to make the flush effective."
Use the link in my signature line for help from senior members...I have included a link about the SWF:http://therawfoodsite.com/forum/showpost.php?p=23442&postcount=14
I have hypertension; and, I have not had any problems with my BP increasing due to the SWF.
I haven't notice any moderators online, lately. Res is a very response moderator, try sending her an email.

I keep running to the loo all the time today (not like the usual one visit)? I seem to be making more and more trips as the days progress
Hi Christene - I have never in all my cleanses ever had just ONE visit to the bathroom from the SWF. My average is 6 visits. From the time of making the SWF to the last bathroom run of the AM - it's generally about an hour and twenty minutes. The tea used to be a one bathroom trip event - I used to wake up about an hour earlier than usual due to the tea, run to the toilet and then go back to sleep. The last two cleanses, though, I have slept through the night, but have 2 or 3 elminations as soon as I get up. Then throughout the day, I often have to make a trip to the bathroom after drinking a large amount of lemonade - I like to make 2 or more glasses at a time and will often drink 1 - 2 glasses very quickly when it's the freshest - then have to go. So that all adds up to about 10- 12 bathroom visits per day. I find that it helps to use baby oil on the toilet paper to keep from getting sore. One of the moderators recommends baby wipes - but these can clog up older plumbing as they are thicker than tp.

Anyone with any input about working out along with the cleanse? I had energy during the first one, hopefully this one too:) Good luck to you all - look forward to reading your posts.
Hi Tsan - I work out during the cleanse - but there are two tips that help me through it - first, I get in the habit of working out before I start the cleanse. At least a week of working out regularly so that I don't put my body through two new stresses at once. Second, I don't rush my workouts. I give myself enough time to stop and breath if I start feeling tired or achy. The only time I ever feel dizzy or weak working out is if I try to push myself too hard or too quick instead of listening to how I am feeling that day.
Painted lady - The important ingredient of the laxative tea is the senna leaves - so you can always just use straight senna leaves if you can find them in a health food store or herb shop, or if you don't like the Chocolate Smooth move, either.
Courtneyk - there are some tips to help make the SWF more agreeable on the SWF thread at the front page of the BB. First double check to make sure you are using 2 teaspoons, not 2 tablespoons. A lot of people make that mistake, after using tablespoons for the lemon juice and MS. Getting it just the right temperature (warm soup) and drinking it through a straw wree big helps to me; also pretending it was chicken soup without the chicken flavor. The SWF is VERY, VERY important. My first (1/2) MC I had to quit because my eyes began stinging so much I could not open them in normal sunlight - As bad as that was, it was very clear that the pain was part of detoxing. To stop the pain, I ate an In & Out burger and I could see again in about 20 minutes. I had gone 4 days without the SWF and will never make that mistake again, you really need it to clear out the toxins that the lemonade releases into your system.

Didn't work out either. I'm a morning workout person, so if I miss the morning, it's hard for me to fit it in! I'll post later, but gotta run. Have a great day and stay strong!!!!
ps - I was really hungry end of day 1.......had to stay clear of the kitchen as I am a mindless muncher LOL
sierramagic and ladybalt, thanks for the workout advice - I will resume my normal workouts tomorrow morning armed with lighter weights and lots of water!

Do you like chocolate..........if so try the Chocolate Smooth Move (it has the same amount of Senna Leaf as the other one)
All the best for your success

Day 5 of 20, it's a good day, it's easy to feel deprived seeing everyone eating what ever they want, but it's easier to enjoy the solice and internal quietness that fasting brings.

Good save! That is exactly what I did if I got hungry. A swig of maple syrup does wonders!:D
Also, my sense of smell has been enhanced. My husband and I were having a conversation and he was probably 4-5 ft. away from me and I could smell his breath! Wow!
I know what you mean about smelling another persons breath from even 3-4ft away.........sometimes they smell like a horses stable (and I know why that is so.........they need to detox asap). I thought my breath would smell because of my white tongue (so I brush it all off when I cant stand it any more).

today is day 9 and unfortunatelly i had to end my cleanse :(.i really wanted to do the 10 days, like last time. since day 5 i had few nuts and fruit each day. i know it says not to do that but this time i did it for weight loss, rather than cleansing. i felt full, but i have health problems and my head was spinning to the point that i thought i was going to faint. this scared me a lot, espacially when i was driving .i also think that i did the MC too soon from the first one, it was 7 weeks ago. my body lost all the nutrients and instead of feeling better and having clear mind it was totally opposite. i ate already salad and i'm fine my stomach doesn't hurt. last time, the day after the cleanse i also started eating and i was fine. u guys have a good day, and keep drinking the lemonade. for those who said they didn't feel well, i think the best think is to stop and do it again few weeks later. not every person is the same, and some of us have weaker systems and sometimes being healthy is more important. i will try to do the cleanse in few months again, hopefully i'll be fine than.

my head was spinning to the point that i thought i was going to faint.I ran into a slight case of this on the first day; after reading up on some of the info., I contributed it to a dip in blood pressure. It did seem like a low blood sugar thing to me, though. I took about 2 bites of a banana to help it pass, & it was manageable.
Also, this happened after a full shift at work (working nights), so I was on my way home in the morning. I went to bed feeling a bit woozy, with a "hangover" type headache, but when I awoke some 6 hrs. later, I was no worse for the wear!

8 day post cleanse, 8 days on-going healthy diet. Lost another 1/2 lb. so that makes 4 while cleansing and another 5 on-going for a total of 9 in 16 days! Amazing! I can't say enough about this program and how the cleanse sets you right. I sound like a broken record but I can't help it. 5 more lbs. to go. :D

Today is my day 15. I am officially 2/3 of the way through the cleanse. (Going for 21 days). I had decided to weigh myself every other day and was disappointed to see I had not lost anything over the past 2 days. I have also only lost 1/4 inch off my waist in a week. This is frustrating as I have been very diligent about the fast AND about working out!! I have to keep reminding myself that my body will prioritize my detox and weight loss to what it KNOWS needs to be done first, not according to what my mirror suggests needs to be done first. I know that I am doing the best thing possible for my health and appearance right now just by being on the cleanse and exercising, so I must be patient and trust in the process.
Hope everything is going well for everyone out there...keep on juicing! :)

I just got done with day3. This is the longest I have ever stuck with any kind of fast, I think. I tried a water fast and stopped on the evening of the second day. I don't think I have ever made it through the third day of the Master Cleanser. I am doing it with a group this time - so helpful!
the biggest, most horrible thing today is that I have a heightened sense of smell. I never noticed my husband had icky breath!
My nose is so much clearer today. I suffer(ed) from terrible seasonal allergies and usually barely have the usage of one nostril. Today - both nostrils are great!
I hope to make it until my tongue turns pink. I have chronically sensitive teeth - so that might be the fast-breaker. I have been fine so far - I rinse my mouth with water after each glass of the lemonade. I plan to try veggie juicing if my teeth end up bothering me.

This is my 1st cleanse and I am on the fourth day!! The 3rd day was the hardest!! I have lost my motivation and I have almost caved in...My sense of smell is ridiculous, I am not hungry but everyone's food smells so so good. I don't think I'm going to make it past tomorrow. I am also tired of drinking the lemonade, I feel like i'm drinking tobasco sauce:( So today I was not intending on continuing the fast, so i didn't drink my tea last night nor did I do the SWF this am. I did however drink the tea at work and mixed my lemonade before I went to work. I put less cayenne pepper(the usual was 1/2 tsp) I think that made a difference for me, but I'm still not so sure about continuing:(

I am on day 10 of my first fast and am hoping to get more supplies to continue to day 21........then we can both jump up and down and scream "21 TODAY, 21 TODAY"...............right?

Diary Day Nine
This was a really tough day.
Up very early today 7.30am so it’s going to be a very long day for me.
The SWF went down reasonably well………btw its 34 mouthfuls if you really want to know.
Not sure when the water and MC was taken but I alternated them and ticked them off as I drank them……..I seemed to be sipping something forever.
In the afternoon around 2.30 (that seems to be the most challenging part of the day always for me) the ‘I AM HUNGRY’ messages started to come through loud and clear again so back on to the frantically drinking water and MC non stop whilst holding a tbs of maple syrup in my mouth so I couldn’t eat anything else.
Here I was contemplating stopping the MC on day ten but the four day lead into regular eating doesn’t look that promising either at the moment so the thoughts of patting myself on the back for getting through day ten might have to be put on hold for the moment.
I read that you stopped MC when your tongue was a nice pink color and not white coated?????????
I really wanted to go 21 days (and finish 4 days before the wedding so I could end the fast properly) but not sure if I can get the store here to send me more supplies in time, will phone and ask them………if they can then I definitely continue.
I am starting to feel so well I really want to keep going now that I have started and that is because of the many who have offered advice and support here on this link……….so a grateful thanks to you all.
Staring day 10 now............

wow. Day 4 and I am craving everything except the 'lemonade'. I feel like I could go into the kitchen and eat everything. Mostly it is the bananas calling to me.... It feels like a nicotine fit! (note, I haven't smoked in many, many years, but I remember the feeling)
The people I am doing the fast with - are only doing it for 5 days. I hope to do at least the proper 10.
I am 5'5, 32 years old, and now down to 125lbs. I've lost 3 pounds. I wish I had taken measurements pre-MC. I am mostly just trying to heal my digestive system and change my relationship with food/eating.

I am 5'5 and that is my goal 125! This did clean me out and made me feel fresh for a new start. I didn't fight any hunger pangs, physical ones like growling stomach, and really not mental ones, even when my husband ate a Big Mac meal in the truck with me. And my relationship with food/eating has done a 180 degrees. But I'm afraid it will come back so I'm moving slowly with foods. Lots of fruit, veges, some grains, tiny bit of meat. So far so good.:)

Diary Day Ten
Day started at 9.30am with SWF…then I lay down on my right side as I read somewhere to allow my stomach to empty properly........by 11.30 nothing had happened so I started taking my meds and the first of my MC lemonade for the day. Alternated water and MC lemonade throughout the day till my Smooth Move tea at 10.30.
Today the right side of my nose and sinuses drained completely and I could feel the rush of cold air deep in my lungs when I breathed in the left side is still blocked though. Boy was that feeling of air coming into my body so invigorating and cleansing………..its still a novelty as I kept breathing deeply over and over again till I felt light headed and energized.
Just started day 11 by spiting up a lot of mucus from my throat………

Christene, yes, a nice pink tongue means you have finished the detox. However, many of us have to do more than one cleanse before we get all the toxins out, so the "go 'til your tongue is pink" message is two sided: if you go until your tongue is pink there is no telling how many days that might be - 40+ ? But, if you are not sure whether or not to quit, and you are feeling healthy, but your tongue is still coated, then keep going. There is a really cool website that diagnoses your state of health by the coating on your tongue. There is a link to it that Peter Glickman posted on the "tongue coating" thread on the first page of the BB. Check it out - it's incredibly gross!!!
I am on day 17, and haven't lost any weight or any inches off my waist in over a week. However, my tongue is a white furry mess, so I know I need to keep going. When I look in the mirror, I can see that I've lost weight all over, but I really had wanted to target my waist. My skin looks fantastic, though. Also, I feel great. Still gets bouts of depression, but physically I feel terrific. I had origianlly wanted to go 28 days, but settled on 21 when I realized my daughter's graduation was the 13th and we would want a big family dinner, etc.
Looking at my cleansing history, I realize 21 is the longest I have ever gone. I had thought I did 21 before, but now remember that I stopped when relatives came to town to visit. At the time I felt that there was not much advantage to going over 10 days. But I will report back on if I think there is a benefit to going for 3 weeks, this time. 5 days to go!

Hi,
It's my very 1st day today. I had the laxative tea last night and it has been going well so far. The salt water did not taste that bad, but I could not drink more than 16 oz. I have had 2x16 oz of lemon drinks so far. What I did is I made my drinks in the morning and put them in my spring water bottles to bring them to work. I actually do not mind the Cayenne pepper taste at all. I am 5'4 and 138 lbs right now and my goal is to go down to 120 lbs. I have always been a healthy eater and water drinker. I have gained about 15 lbs since I met my current boyfriend. He cooks delicious meal, but full of butter and salt. Hopefully, this will cleanse my system and I can have a happy healthy life. :)

Morning of Day 6. Today... I only got through 16oz of the SWF. I have never been so lazy with it. I just didn't feel like dealing with it! I don't think I drank enough water yesterday, because I have never felt gross for so long from SWF.
I am totally fine, and I sometimes feel like I could do the MC forever. Other times... oh... there are beautiful fruits in the kitchen and I walk by them a bazillion times a day.

It doesn't look like it will link you up from here. To get the actual link, go to the same page that has the "sticky": "What day are you on and how are you doing?". Instead of clicking on that thread, go down a few to find the "sticky": "Tongue Coating." On the bottom of the very first post (by Peter G.) is the link to the tongue diagnoses website.
I am on day 18. 4 days to go. I really just feel like eating something - some nice cooked grain caserole type meal with vegies. You know, comfort food. But I know that if I just give in right now after 17-1/2 days of no solid foods, that even the healthiest meal will make me have to run to the bathroom for hours and would not be pleasant at all. Just not worth it to quit suddenly at this point. Also - after about 10 days with no change, I lost 1/2 inch off my waist!!! :D I was really getting frustrated that I was losing everywhere but there. It turns out that I lost a lot from my butt, which is now looking much tighter and more toned. That area was not a priority for me, as I carry my extra weight more in my abs and thighs than my rear. Oh, well...I'll take what I get I guess. I keep reminding myself that I have tried multiple diets and multiple cleanses and there is NOTHING that helps me lose weight faster or feel better during the process, than the MC. I have also been very tempted by the Taco Bell commercial for their 89 Cent chicken burrito with avocado sauce. Unfortunately I had the poor judgment to eat some Taco Bell about 5 or 6 days after finishing a cleanse about a year ago. It sat in my stomach like a ROCK for hours! Again, so not worth it. Keep strong, everyone...:)

Thanks, Sierramagic (post #4834). I did end the cleanse after Day 15 only because I had a medical appt five days later and wanted to see beforehand how my body would react once returned to solid foods... I am HAPPY to report that fully one week after ending the cleanse I have had the healthiest bowel movement I can recall since previous to October 2007. I was totally astounded and I completely attribute it to this cleanse. Since ending, I have gained back a few of the 10 lbs lost, possibly due to not yet restarting an exercise programs (and that oh, so tempting bag of chips my nephew brought in :D) -- other stressors now (I received news that my job is being eliminated next month) so have had to focus energies elsewhere (also why I haven't returned to this site until now). :( However, I will do this cleanse again and now have this question: How long is it recommended to wait between cleanses?
Thanks, again!

Well, still on day 18. But I've got the coldies and need to distract myself. I took a long hot bath with epsom salts and my muscles feel relaxed and wonderful. Have been sipping hot lemonade. Conditioned my hair. I should probably put in a movie. The only other trick up my sleeve is looking through cooking magazines and cutting out recipes that I want to try when I'm off the cleanse. But right now I think that would just make me yearn for food more than is good for me. it's been a yucky day all around. Had to work - raining/drizzling all day. Ok- I know, I'll make a fire in the fireplace while watching a movie!! That should help. Who cares if it's June, I'm cold !!

Hi All,
I'm on Day 7 and feeling OK....will be glad when it's all over though. Feeling so anti-social as everyone around me eats food, especially my boyfriend - who I live with and has had to eat on his own all week! - who thinks I am mad for doing this!!
It has been really helpful for me to read this message board and I feel supported as always by everyone here (if not from people in my normal life, ha!). It's good to know there are others like me and we are all in the same boat.
Out of everything I have read here today, this stood out for me:
"it's easy to feel deprived seeing everyone eating what ever they want, but it's easier to enjoy the solice and internal quietness that fasting brings"
....so thanks very much for that, drbrew! I feel just the same and what you said has really helped me to feel better....I will stick to remembering my internal quietness and solace when faced with the moans and disapproval of others!!
I hope to go to 12 days....I can't really go longer as I have events planned where the MC would be close to impossible....but that's OK, 12 days is enough for me. I have lost nearly 5 kg! I plan to follow the cleanse with very healthy eating to lose another 5 kg by August, before I go on holiday, so I am really flowing with health by then. That makes a total of 10 kg (22 lb), and I will be once again at my ideal weight....it's been a long time coming! ;-)
Bye for now, good luck all, keep cleansing! :-)

Diary Day Twelve
Woke up with a salty taste in my mouth and very thirsty?
Up at 9.30am….the SWF is going down easily now that I think I have the exact temperature right….slightly warm but not hot.
Felt energetic mowed over half an acre of lawn by hand…..raked and cleaned up and planted flowers for another hour…..madly drinking water all the time.
Went to town shopping with my Lemonade Brigade Pack filled with water and MCL, whilst there went to the movies and as I hadn’t been to the bathroom for a while guess when I had to go and go and go…….I even missed the end of the movie………lol.
Went to bed early after SM tea feeling really tired and with a bad headache that lasted through the night until the morning.
Day 13 awoke with a headache that didn’t leave till 9.30am…..

Hi Kookie,
Sorry I didn't see your post yesterday. Sometimes newbie's posts are delayed, and I usually just go back to my last post and read from there forward, so I miss the things that get posted in between on delay.
I have never found an "official" minimum time between cleanses. Here is my experience: When I first went on the MC, I was so thrilled with the results, I wanted to do it for 10 days once every month. Everyone on the BB said not to because that would be too close together (about 20 days apart). But no one had any concrete reasons or evidence for this belief. I was thinking that if Burroughs said a fast of 40 days every season (40/90 days) was OK, what was the difference if I broke it up into 3 short cleanses over the same time period (30/90 days) ? It seemed even safer and easier to me than the long 40 day fast. So I tried to do one cleanse per month. That lasted about 10 months. The first two went very well, then I started having trouble. First, I did not feel weak or sick - nothing bad happened like hair or teeth falling out or fainting, etc. BUT, I found that each clease I got fewer and fewer results. Also, I found that I would dread having to start the next cleanse instead of being excited about it. The more cleanses I did, the less motivated I became, and I could not complete them. I did not list the "failed" attempts on my cleansing history - they went anywhere from 3 to 8 days, when I would give in and eat a regular meal and get unpleasant diarrhea as a result. I also learned that I was less inclined to stick to a healthy diet in between cleanses when I knew I'd be on the MC again in just a week or two. Also, the MC flushes bacteria out of your digestive system - the good bacteria as well as the bad bacteria. I wasn't digesting right after multiple cleanses and needed to build up colonies of good bacteria with pro-biotics (like yogurt) in between cleanses. Once a month cleansing did not give my body enough time to restore my system with pro-biotics before they were all flushed out again at the next cleanse.
I learned that for me at least, the only way to have an effective cleanse was to make cleansing a special event - something that I planned and got motivated for. This attitude sets the MC apart as something to stay dedicated to when I'm on it, not just a monthly obligation like paying your bills.
I am someone who has to learn by doing, and I learned that Burroughs was right - once a season is the best. My current experiment is to see what length of cleanse is best for me in this 4 times a year pattern. 10 days does not seem enough. This is my day 19 and I am not feeling too many benefits from going so long. Right now I am inclined to think 14 - 15 days seems like the best...for me. Everyone's body is different.
Good luck on your cleansing. The minimum I had between cleanses was about 20 days and it didn't hurt me - so if you feel super motivated and physically strong then go for it - just don't try to do them that close together very often, or they will no longer be as effective.

Hi Everyone-
This is day one for me. I have tried to start for awhile now but all attempts were thwarted by my lack of willpower. This will be my 3rd cleanse. My first was 10 days, 2nd was 21 days and Iam aiming for 40 days this time. I have found that after the first 10 days it's pretty automatic and gets considerably easier. But those first 10 days are hard and the first 3-4, super hard. Even now at noon on my first day I am thinking about how good anything would taste. I will be using this board a lot (especially in the beginning) as it has been a big help in the past. Stay strong everyone!!

My name is Anna from Colorado. I first did the MC in 2005 and I did it for 40 days!!! It was amazing. Although, looking back.... I always used grade A. Well, I am now going to do this again...... and I even purchased the grade b this time. I am ready to achieve and feel better than ever. It's amazing when I look back after I did the 40 days. How different I felt!!! Then, life happened and I started repeating the same health mistakes.. bad choices in food....... ect. NOW, I will not turn away from the big picture. I am not sure how many days I will do this. Right now, I will say 10. Tomorrow will be Day !. Blesssings to all of you that are doing this MC.......... send blessings my way that I can keep with it!!

Thanks for the encouragement Christene!
Hello Yogi, welcome to the board! You sound like you have done a few cleanses before, like myself. My first one was 40 days and it was fantastic....it's just quite hard to fit it in around events....you have to make sure you haven't got ay important things like weddings or parties coming up. Apart from that, you are completely right about the 40 day cleanse: it becomes automatic after 10 days and is relatively easy to stick to....just becomes like normal life. The weight falls off and the energy comes and doesn't slip until right near the end. I cycled to and from work every day (4 miles each way)(as usual) for my 40 day cleanse and was fine....just towards the end my muscles started to feel a little more core than usual, but I'd reached the end of the cleanse anyway so I was ok.
I am only going for 10 days this time....though now I am wondering about going for 12???
The only thing I am worried about is my teeth....probably the worse thing for them is loads of sugar (maple syrup) and acid (lemon juice). They are quite weak and I have just had three fillings done and really don't want any more dental work done for ages, it was too painful! :-s Also my wisdom teeth are really far back in my mouth and strangely angled so that I can't clean them properly....and they are aching a bit. I am worried about them going rotten with all the sugar...
Anyway, enough moaning and worrying! Good luck to all, I am off to work! :-)

maneuver12 here, checking in for the first time in a while. It's Day 5, and I'm feeling great! Just taught my Monday Spin class -- next stop, school (I teach fifth grade), then tutoring, then maybe a walk with my younger daughter. (If this sounds like a lot, you should hear my wife's schedule.)
The only glitch I'm facing: Too many social events! Scheduling a cleanse without bumping into some major parties and dinners is virtually impossible. I have no problem not eating the food and drinking the drinks -- I'm good with that -- but some folks are actually offended if you don't partake. I know, it's their issue -- no reason to make it mine -- but I would love to have this conversation at a party someday:
OTHER PERSON: Try the bean dip! It's great!
ME: It looks great! But I'm doing the Master Cleanse, so I'll have to pass.
OTHER PERSON: Oh. Cool. Hey, did you bring your guitar?
ME: Yeah! Wanna jam?
OTHER PERSON: Yeah, let's!

Day 8!
I can't believe I made it this far. I plan to do 10 days. I am getting nervous about the self-restraint it will take to not devour the fridge and run down to the vietnamese place down the street from me! Having a day of watered down orange juice just seems so... anticlimactic!
I really haven't lost much weight. I guess I was 'normal' starting the fast. I am down about 5lbs. I am thinking of that as 5lbs of caked on waste in my intestines....
The detox symptoms have been bizarre. Hooray for no more seasonal allergies! Booo for smelling my husbands breath and the bunny litterboxes! And the all-over skin itching of day 5 and 6... woh! A friend with Hep-C says that is a liver thing. I used to drink quite a bit and recently had been taking a lot of ibuprofen for back injuries - so who knows?
I think my SWF is done for the day... so I am off to bike to the office!

I heard someone recomend that you sip MCL through a straw.........also rinsing your mouth out immediately after taking the MCL with your fresh water should clean your teeth if you are concerned?

You could do what the Queen of England and a lot of high profile people do on their numerous social occassions....carry a plate with a little food on it around with you and move the food around on the plate without eating it.......do lots of talking to everyone whilst you are carrying it. Listen to what people are saying about the food in a complementary way and repeat that to your host or food bringer.........if they push you further you could say maybe I'll have some later or if you wouldnt mind ....or I would love to take some home with me later if there is any left which I doubt as it is going so fast. I am sure you will work it all out fine......good luck

Diary Day Thirteen
Woke at 9.30 and did the SWF and made up my bottle of MCL for my first three drinks: now I prefer to have it cold whereas before I seemed to need it warmed (maybe that was when I was feeling the cold shivers). It’s a lovely warm spring day a ‘good to be alive day’ with the breezes rippling through the grasses.
Rather tired later around noon so took myself back to bed for 2hrs more sleep (wondering if this is part of the detox or just doing too much yesterday?)
Feeling rather good so went for a walk and really enjoyed the distinctively separate smells of the grass, pine needles and just savoring the smell of the sweet fresh air coming easily through my nostrils and deep into my lungs like a kid enjoying something for the first time. Found an exquisite large green Luna moth that had recently come out of its cocoon and was shaking its large wings and tails dry then in awe watched it take a first tentative flight about 2ft up the Hemlock tree trunk, rest for a few seconds before soaring high into nearby tall pine trees that have stood flanking the house for over a century. I managed to capture most of this wonderful experience with my camera that I carry with me on such walks.
All in all a great day…..slept deeply that night.
Already taken my SWF for day fourteen………….

I am so excited !!! After staying at the same weight for 4 days straight, I stopped looking at the scale for 3 days. Now this morning, I have lost....6 lbs.!!! I now feel motivated to stay on the cleanse for my last 2 days. Kind of wish I could go more, but I am driving to another state for my daughter's college graduation - it's a once in a life-time event and I am not going to be the stick in the mud drinking lemonade for this occasion, so I have to taper down in two days. Also would not want to be on the MC while driving any long distances. This makes a total of 11 lbs. lost on the cleanse since I started weighing myself, and I know I lost at least 5 lbs. before that, possibly more. Grand total - anywhere from 16 - 29 lbs. This puts me at only 6 lbs. away from my goal for this cleanse - which is quite alot, but I had not realized I had gained so much weight until I started caring about taking it off. 6 lbs. in 4 days (counting the juice and broth days) is a lot to expect, so I am not going to kill myself trying to do it, but do hope to lose at least 2 more. What has helped me a lot is doing a Pilates tape at home for 20 minutes for the past 7 days. I have been going to the gym for cardio and light weights about 4 days a week, but I think the Pilates is what really kicked it up a notch. When I get back from the trip, I intend to go on a milder detox, that allows all solid foods but focuses on avoiding common food allergens and eating tons of vegies - raw and cooked. The big question for me now is: should I make regular vegie soup (with lots of cayenne) or my Chinese vegetable soup? Both sound so yummy right now.

Dear lopey,
My back molars had been turned inward at about a 50 degree angle for the last few years - hard to say how many because it was a gradual process. I noticed on this cleanse that they are now completely straight!! I just went to the mirror to check again, because it seems so unbelievable, but they are COMPLETELY STRAIGHT !! The odd thing is that I have gotten a lot of pimples behind my ears right at the jawline this cleanse, especially on the left side, which was the tooth that was the most crooked. I don't know if this is all due to the MC because I did not check my teeth immediately before starting the cleanse, it was just something I noticed about a week ago. I have also been chewing ice all during my cleanse - it's supposed to be bad for your teeth, but I get these ice cubes at my grocery store that are not solid cubes, but compressed small ice crystals, so they are crumbly and "softer" to chew. Our back teeth were made for chewing hard things (like cracking nut and seed shells) and because we don't do that so much anymore, our molars have gotten smaller than Homo habilis', etc., and we have virtually lost the third set (wisdom teeth) as a species. SO, the point is that MAYBE the straightening had to do with USING my molars with the kind of impact for which they were intended, which is what I was thinking until I saw your post. Now, I can't help but think the MC had something to do with it. I had not put together the breakouts behind my ears with the tooth straightening before. Imagine if all those days when I was not losing weight, it was because my body was using its energy to staighten out my teeth!! So worth it! This sounds a little crazy, but I have had other completely unexpected, seemingly illogical, changes in past cleanses: my lips got fuller, for one !!
Oh, as for cleaning - there is this wonderful product called "Showerfloss" which is like a waterpik that you attach to your shower head. This makes it very easy to clean your back teeth while you are in the shower. Maybe the showerfloss helped with my tooth straightening, too, as it stimulates the gums, which my dentist says makes them stronger; maybe a combo of all three factors. You can get them on ebay for about $20 - 25, and I think about $35 in some drug stores.
Vive Le MC !!

Hello everyone! Today is day three of my second cleanse - i'm going for 14 days this time. My first cleanse was only 10 days and I wished I had gone longer.
I've only waited 3 months in between and I was worried that it was too short. But from reading a few previous posts I learned that it was okay! :) Has anyone else gone on the next one before the 6 months mark?
I have to admit, the second time around is easier than the first. I know what to expect on the harder days and am looking forward to day 8-9 when i feel clean and energetic. Can't wait.
Keep sqeezing those lemons, everyone! :D

Two weeks after an 8 day cleanse. Have kept the 9 lbs. off! Adding a bit of pasta and cheese and a daily glass of wine. Just started to do some exercise, walking and a core routine that incorporates a 2 lbs ball and all muscles groups. Still want to drop 5 more lbs. but will not dwell on it. My first priority is keep the 9 off and gradually eat more healthy foods. Still catch myself not concentrating on eating slowly and chewing. Gulp big mouthfuls! Why is that so hard to break!!!

This was one of the toughest days where I felt really weak in the legs and the day dragged on forever?
Have noticed that my Medicine capsule is coming out whole each day without being utilized/used by my body………now I wonder does that mean I don’t need it anymore? I must mention this to my doctor when I see her on 26th of this month.
Started day 14 already and the SWF too forever to drink…..

Hello :)! I just finished my first day of the cleanse and this is how it went:
woke up
SWF-TERRIBLE!
shower with a side of vomit
drank the lemonade all day long
not too much hunger :)
towards the end of the day, felt AWFUL!
at the end of the night, drank the smooth move tea
took another shower before bed and with another side of vomit.
Felt much better
went to sleep
To my surprise the hunger pangs weren't too much of an issue. I did, however feel terrible by the end of the day, (major headache, vomiting, light headedness etc) but I guess that is to be expected.

Christine - it took me 20 minutes to drink the SWF today. I did it in 4 gulps but I kept spacing out and forgetting that I was working on the SWF (was watching tv at the same time)
I am incredibly hungry today, and I am wondering if this is the 'return of true hunger'. It is only Day 9 though. Yesterday was really rough. On my bikeride home - my legs just didn't want to do it anymore. It was hard hauling myself up the hills that are usually tough - but not totally draining. I thought days 8-10 were supposed to be full of energy!
It is quite possible that I am not adding enough MS to the drink. I have been doing half, but drinking more lemonade than recommended - so it all works out, I think, caloric- and nutrition-wise.
When do I stop?

Hi bunny,
Not sure if your question was directed at just Christene or the whole group...but here's one response for you. Minimum time, as you know, is 10 days. After 10 days, the best indication to stop is a clean pink tongue. However, if you don't want to keep going indefinitely until your tongue clears up, wait until the day after a high energy day. The days that you feel weak and are dragging are the days you are detoxing, and you don't want to cut that process short before it's done. I have found that I will have aches or weakness in one area of my body, then a high energy day, then have low days with aches in a different area. So, it seems like the detox concentrates on certain organ systems or locations one at a time.
As for days 8 -10 supposedly being high energy days - everyone is different. I have never corresponded to those book guidelines. It all depends on how many toxins you have in your body and where they are stored. My guess is that the book's example of which days are high or low come from statistics averaged from over 1000 people, they are not a concrete "rule."
My definition of "the return of true hunger" : when it's your stomach churning and growling to be filled, not your mouth that is watering for food AND drinking the lemonade does not stop your stomach's aching to be filled.
----
Today is my last day - 21!! This is the longest I have gone. Oddly, I keep thinking, "Now I can eat" and have to keep reminding myself that NO, I can't EAT yet - I have to finish today, then have my OJ day, then the broth/soup day. This cleanse I have had 3 high energy days, one medium day (Day 1 - that day is always easy for me, I don't even feel like I'm on the cleanse yet) and and 16 days in which I was depressed/lagging. Of those 16 days, only 3 of them were really hard where I was tempted to quit. The high number of depressed days was unusual for me - but I could handle it because I could see and feel and measure how much I was improving my health and appearance. I would rather be depressed for 16 days and lose 16 lbs. than be happy for 16 days and stay fat with clogged intestines. Besides what's 16/365? 4.4% - not bad considering the results. It's really no different from forcing yourself to go to the gym when you don't feel like it.

thanks Sierramagic. The question was directed toward everyone.
My husband doesn't understand the 10-day thing. He keeps telling me that I've done enough. I began to question it between my headache and my tummy. I had a massive detox headache on days 2 and 3. Now, I think the headache is just caused by the barometric pressure change here in New England. If not for the headache, I think I could handle my stomach's rumbling.

Hi All! I'm on Day 2 and it's my first time. I have been reading as much as possible for the last 2 weeks before starting and found this to be a great site for support, information and just good times. Starting to feel nauseous when thinking of lemonade drink, but I'm still chugging it down. My tongue is making me feel weird, the tongue site was so gross, I wanted to puke. Be forewarned!

The 10 day minimum is about making sure you are on it long enough to really experience the benefits. Every body is different, and there are probably some people who would do just as well on, say, only 8 days. For myself, I know that 10 days is just not enough - I am in the process of trying to figure out what my ideal number of cleansing days is. There is no way of knowing that until you have done a number of cleanses and have learned how to distinguish between detox symptoms and general malaise. When in doubt - drink lots and lots of water, get extra sleep, take an epsom salt bath, and be sure to do the SWF !!! Most symptoms disappear after doing the SWF. If the symptoms disappear after doing any or all of those things, it's detox. If symptoms persist, it is probably something else.

Am posting my Chinese Veggie Soup recipe. It originally came from a magazine and included chicken broth, sugar, cornstarch, and shrimp. I leave out all those things right after the cleanse, but add shrimp on other days. Here's my version:
Broth seasoning:
1 T. peanut OR sesame oil.
1/4 cup chopped fresh ginger
1/4 cup chopped garlic
1/2 cup tamari (or soy sauce)
1/4 c. rice wine vinegar
3/4 to 1 T. agave (substituting for sugar)
1 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
1/4 c. chopped fresh chilantro
Canned items:
1 can sliced bamboo shoots
1 can sliced water chestnuts
1 can mini-corn
1 can straw mushrooms (or use fresh, below)
Fresh veggies:
1-2 carrots, julienned or chopped
1/2 lb. broccoli, chopped
1/4 - 1/2 c. chopped spinach, trimmed
1/2 lb. green beans, julienned or chopped
1/4 lb. pea pods
1 green bell pepper, julienned or chopped
1 cup chopped mushrooms (OR 1 can straw mushrooms, above)
Add last:
1/4 cup frozen peas
3/4 c. mung bean sprouts
Optional:
1 lb. shrimp
1 pkg. (10.5) oz. extra firm Tofu
Directions:
Put 80 oz. water in a large pot (fill 1/2 the pot) and set to boil, add broth seasonings and stir well, next add Tofu (optional), then canned veggies, then fresh veggies in order listed, cutting up one vegetable and adding it as you go. When soup boils after all these ingredients are in, turn off heat, add shrimp (optional), frozen peas , and 1/2 cup mung bean sprouts, stir. Save remaining 1/4 cup of mung bean sprouts as a garnish on top of bowl when serving.

Day 4 -
As I said before, second time around is so much easier... not having any major detox symptoms makes me think maybe i'm not detoxing???
I'm drinking about 6-8 10oz lemonades a day. SWF in the morning and smooth move tea at night. Normally i would be crazy thinking about food, like SUSHI! okay maybe I am thinking about sushi a little bit but i can live without it. tongue is lightly coated... not nearly as much as last time.
My last cleanse was only 3 months ago. Could this be the reason? Does anyone else have the same experience as me? I want to know that I am detoxing!!

Just checked my daily tick sheet and yes day nine was a real challenge for me....I was also hungry the most that day also. Dont let the 'Lil Beastie" in your tummy fool you with all its growling...lol.
Your calories for the MCL for the daily 6 glass minimum is about 600 something (cant remember the odd numbers but its under 700 cal) so no need to skimp there. You can have 6-12 drinks a day.
Day 14 & 15 were my exhausted leg days when I had to haul myself up the stairs by my arms just reading Peters book that arrived today so might get some insight there? If I feel hungry or a bit faint I throw down a table spoon of MS straight I find that helps.
When do feel that you want to stop? A 10 day MC is recommended the rest is up to you.
Wishing you all the very best for your sucess.................

Hey Mimillia_
What you are experiencing is totally normal. Sinnce you did your last cleanse only 3 months ago your system is not nearly as polluted as the first time. You are still detoxing, don't worry. As a matter of fact, rejoice!! With every cleanse it seems to get easier.

Mimillia! Great Job! You must have eaten lots of fruits and vegetables the past three months 8). This may explain you lack of detox symptoms 8). Especially since your tongue is lightly coated 8)8). You Rock...your tongue should be totally pink soon! If not this cleanse, one or two more in the future, hopefully;)

Hi All,
Just checking in....hope to write more later this evening, so this is a quick one.
Thanks for all the info on tooth sensitivity etc....and what a funny story about the tooth straightening!! Well, it would be ideal for me if that were to happen to me too...would save on a very painful and expensive extraction in a few years!!!
I AM ON DAY 10!!! YEAH!!!! It's been very easy for me to keep track of the days this time as I started on the 1st of the month, he he! (Bunny, so it's your finish day today...? Happy orange juicing tomorrow then! :-))
I am thinking to go for 12 days...but then I start thinking 14, because that makes it two weeks...I become a bit obsessive about it and sort of get addicted to going for as long as possible, even though really I am ready to stop and it would be better for me to do so. I am bored with the lemonade and want to eat normal food again.... :-( But I love the buzz of the energy, the great skin, the sparkly eyes, the way your clothes feel loose...!!! Somebody stop me from going mad!!
I think I should stop at 14 days max as I am finishing off a PhD and I need my brain to be in mint condition - not thinking about food! - to write this thing! So 14 days is enough....
Christene, how long are yoy going for, just out of interest??
*See* you all tonight! :O)

Oh my goodness... Still laughing about the Queen of England post! Too funny and totally great advice. Thanks, Christene!
As for me, I've re-gressed -- too many foodie opportunities and I am like that CSI episode where the poor fellow is unable to stop eating and they lock & chain the fridge! 'Furthers my amazement at myself that I was so easily able to stay focused and committed while on the cleanse!!! And deepens my disappointment in myself at not being able to keep up the same committment to my health now that I'm off! Grrrrrrr...
Well. I'm not going to beat myself up anymore. I'm just going to re-dedicate myself tomorrow and spend some time in the LemonHead Recipe Box! Keep going, everyone, and thanks all for these great posts! :)

I figured as much... but my tongue was not completely pink after 10 days the last time, so i thought my body needs further cleansing... plus, i've been pretty bad with unhealthy food choices the last 4 weeks, blame it on my husband and basketball games..LOL :D

Day 10. I am getting terribly sick of the lemonade... I drank the SWF in 10 minutes - probably my speediest time yet. I just kept telling myself 'last SWF, last SWF, you can do it Emily!' I am so glad I don't have to do that until next time I do the MC.
I don't even feel like drinking the MCL anymore.
In other news... my barometric pressure migraine is gone! yay! weather in New England has stabilized. I didn't even leave my house yesterday. I am sure it wasn't a detox symptom.
I am actually not very excited for the orange juice. It just seems like a sweet version of MCL. no more citrus! I've heard of people just doing watermelon after. That seems quite compelling. I do have most of a bag of organic juicing oranges ready to go, however. Since I am going raw after the post-fast phase, I am mostly excited to get into the kitchen and prepare food. Making food is therapeutic for me. I love the chopping and dicing.

Diary Day Fifteen
This morning it seemed to take forever to drink my SWF….each day is certainly different for sure.
My mind was so clear and focused so much so that I managed to get three chapters of my latest book done (usually I don’t manage that much in one sitting………….normally it is one chapter or about and hour of solid writing before my mind starts to wander of the subject line).
As I had decided to continue my MC longer than the original 10 days I had to buy a small bottle of organic grade B Maple Syrup from the health store in town at an exorbitant price of $18.00 (I really didn’t like the taste either as it was very thin and tasteless not like the ‘Now’ brand I buy from the store on this site). Taste is an all important factor to me for if I had to take the thin tasteless one I know that I wouldn’t be able to continue on the MC very long at all.
I had only enough of this to make only three drinks today and I was hoping my order would be delivered today or tomorrow as stated. I was seriously drinking lots of water in the afternoon and had decided that I would keep drinking only water until my supplies arrived rather than stop my fast.
Well three hours later the UPS truck pulled into the driveway. I had two girlfriends visiting at the time and they said I was jumping up and down like a kid in a candy store when I saw the delivery man….. I nearly ran out and hugged him I was so happy.
My leg muscles were unquestionable weaker for most of the day until the cooler part of the evening around 6.00pm when I went out for a short walk with my kitten in her red walking harness (she is far too young to be let out without some form of restraint at this time even with the larger cats because of the road traffic or wild animals roaming around here…… a coyote was killed on the roadway right in front of the house here last night). What a sight we three must make as we headed out for a walk around the recently cut grasslands near our old farmhouse.
Felt fantastic in the evening………and have rattled on enough……grin!
Just started my morning of day 16.......Yeah "sweet sixteen etc......."

Hi Christene,
Thanks for sharing. I enjoy reading your posts very much! You are a great writer.
Day 16!! What an accomplishment! Great job! :) How long are you going for? I almost ran out of maple syrup too so I had to stop by the local Trader Joes for some back up. The store by me now sell 32oz jugs of grade B and it tastes great! Another upside that it was only $17! I think i paid over $40 for the 32oz jug I bought on Amazon... can't beat that.

My last cleanse was only 3 months ago. Could this be the reason? Does anyone else have the same experience as me? I want to know that I am detoxing!!
Hi Mimilia - you are only on day 4. You will detox and feel it. I have had plenty of detox symptoms, with cleanses much closer together than that. For me, after the first cleanse - day one feels like nothing, not detoxing at all. Days 2 - 4 are the challenge try to stay motivated days, esp. 3 & 4, but I hardly ever have any detox symptoms on those days other than a caffeine headache sometimes. My detox symptoms usually start with depression and fatigue on days 5, 6, & 7. This changes from cleanse to cleanse - sometimes I have high energy days on day 5 and 8, sometimes not until day 9. Keep up the good work!
------
I finished the cleanse and today is my OJ day! Am sitting here waiting for my SWF to kick in. I always continue taking it until I have had solid food to move my toxins out. After all, OJ day is still a fast day, just a milder kind of fast! Actually I will be having tangerine juice. Can't wait! I lost another 2 lbs. bringing my total weight loss to anywhere from 18 - 31 lbs. (didn't weigh myself before starting). I have lost 5 1/4 inches off my waist, and quite a lot off my butt, although I never measured that. I usually continue losing on OJ day, too. I am 4 lbs. away from my goal weight for this cleanse. Feeling great, but hungry.

great name! Why didn't I think of it?? How often do you doYoga and what style of Yoga do you practice?
I figured as much... but my tongue was not completely pink after 10 days the last time, so i thought my body needs further cleansing... plus, i've been pretty bad with unhealthy food choices the last 4 weeks, blame it on my husband and basketball games..LOL :D
I'm just going to drag along and hope next friday will come quickly...
what day are you on?
M
Hi Mimmillia
I practice yoga about 5x a week. I'm not a purist in the sense that, I like a lot of different styles. I live in San Francisco and there are a ton of places around me, so I mix it up every week.
Your body does need cleansing still. Every MC it goes at a different pace with different results. I'm only on day 4 and craving a grilled chicken burrito like crazy. I can taste it. I'm much hungrier this time around. I'm planning on going 40 days. Being only on day 4-that seems like an eternity. I have found that I cannot think past this day. One day at a time seems to have the most success for me. I just focus on completing this day and before you know it--a week has passed.
Hang in there, we are all with you!

Thanks Wineless, and congrats to you, too, on staying so strong post-cleanse.
Today is my juice day- I've had tangelo juice. Didn't taste as good as I'd anticipated. Have been horribly tempted to just eat, partly because out of the blue an ex contacted me, and churned up all those old feelings for him. (And I was thinking how trim and toned I look now, perfect time for a re-union - NO! stop that!) Am trying hard to stay strong, went to the store and bought all my soup ingredients for tomorrow!! Can't wait.
This cleanse I did not horde very much food in my freezer. In the past, I have bought things I was craving and frozen them until later. This time, the only stuff in my freezer is good food on sale and...brownies  But the brownies were not my own doing. Ever since May 31st, for some unknown reason, everyone and their brother have been baking brownies and bringing them to work or class, or even directly to my house. I literally have 7 brownies that different people kept giving me, that I said I would "eat later" so as to avoid criticism about the MC. Only one is a "funny" brownie.
I have also worked my way up to 300 sit ups!! That is where I am stopping, though. No need to kill myself. I can't do them straight in a row - have to stop and breathe, but I must say I find 300 to be an impressive number of sit ups, so am proud of myself for that.
Well, off to the epsom salt bath...

Diary Day Sixteen
It is a real pleasure to get out of bed in the morning feeling so good and refreshed from my sleep and now it only takes me about 6 minutes s to take the SWF in the mornings now.
In my first MCL today the cayenne pepper tasted really hot the rest of the day was no problem
Leg muscles still feeling very tired and weak but the rest of me feels fabulous and my mind is very clear allowing me to do a lot more writing and research.
I notice that I am getting flushed cheeks during the day so my circulation in that area is improving: the skin there is certainly much softer and smoother as well.
A developing detox symptom for me are very white small lumps/blisters forming inside my cheeks that don’t hurt but seem to open up and develop into the peeling skin on the insides of my mouth that started on the left side of the mouth on day 14 and now starting to extend to the right side.
Started day 17 today……flying towards my end goal now…….

Thats a good idea about contiuing the SWF until you have solid foods....think I will try that too

Thanks for the encouragement. We dont have a Trader Joes anywhere near us but I rather like the taste of the "Now" brand sold by the shop on this site so I am happy.
I think I will head for 22 days, originally is was 21 then 4 days of getting back into solid foods and then day 5 would be the wedding (cant imagine any of the food being fresh and raw though so guess I will do the Royal Tour and meet and greet everyone and toy with the food on my plate. I am madly reading lots of articles and websites on Raw Foods.

Holy Crap! 300 situps:eek: Okay, now I gotta do more than a couple laps of walking around the park. This morning down another lb. 10 total and 4 to go to goal.:)
Smart about the no siren songs in the freezer. Before I finished my 8 day cleanse all food that my have tempted me was either eaten by my husband or thrown out. Funny tho' I did not crave junk food and still don't. Only thing that draws me is healthy, which is so cool! But I will say, I'd go for the funny brownie, hands down!:D

Christene - yes Trader Joes is soooo much better for the MS. Suprisingly - 32oz at Whole Foods was only a dollar more... cheap! I live in the city as well, so I assume prices are inflated here :)
Hooooray! I did it. I am so grateful to have done it. My body thanks me. My brain thanks all of you for giving me the endurance.
I couldn't drink the fresh squeezed oj. (yes, watered down). I don't like oj. It made me nearly vomit. I blended watermelon and that was much, much easier for me.I read somewhere - maybe here? that watermelon for a day or 2 works for them.

Sierra Magic- You rock!!! Great Job! I copied your soup recipe and it sounds great! Looking forward to the day when I can partake.
Day 3 for me but have been losing weight for 10 weeks prior to this cleanse. I tried to eat a lot of greens to build up reserves for this cleanse. I must say this is by far the easiest cleanse yet and I am sure it must have been the preparation.
I am in this contest at my workplace where we are in weightloss groups of 3 to 5 people and the group who loses the most wins $600.00. My team is with two other beautiful and motivated ladies. So now for the last 12 days I am cleansing which I usually do this time of year and I think we might win. We currently in 2nd place in our region and 5th place nationwide. :D
Good luck fellow lemonheads!

Wineless- the special brownie was brought to me because this friend has spent years trying to perfect his recipe. This latest recipe, he says, had his neighbors - acting strangely - for 2 DAYS!! They had to leave work as not feeling well. Can you imagine the effect it would have on me, not having eaten any solid food for 22 days now? Yeah... putting that off til much, much later.
Bunny - I'm with you about just being sick of citrus. Watermelon is an excellent kidney cleanser.
LAH32 - Thanks! Good luck on your contest. Seems to me that any contest with even one team member on the MC would win hands down. A whole team of MCers? Probably record setting. Hey, but isn't that what we are, here? A team of lemonheads racing toward good health! Glad you like the recipe; it's one of my favorites.
----Today is my broth/soup day. I usually have broth for lunch and soup for dinner. Will make it an early dinner, though, because I'm going to see "Cats" (never seen it) tonight, and don't want to have to rush out in the middle of the performance, if my body decides to react strangely to the solid foods.
I intended to do my last SWF this morning, but I woke up and saw the tea by the side of my bed. I fell asleep before drinking it!! So I just drank the cold tea, had 3 small eliminations, and consider that good enough.
Today I also start with my pro-biotics. I am determined to be very good and have them with every solid meal, to help get my digestive system running like a 20 year old's again. I weighed and measured myself again today - weight is the same, but I did lose an additional 1/2 inch off my waist, making a grand total of 5 3/4 inches off my waist in 22 days!! Some of you may remember that I said early on that I had gained weight very rapidly, esp. in my waist in only about 3 weeks before the cleanse. I had been concerned that it was a symptom of ovarian cancer. But in the first few days of the cleanse I passed some - ew- worms, which I am sure were the cause of the rapid weight gain, and their demise facilitated my rapid weight loss. I had been experiencing a lot of gas before the cleanse, but all that is gone now. The MC is the best!!

Wow, 5 days a week, that's dedication. I try 3 times on my own and make it to the studio once a week. Anyway, San Francisco! That's where Janet Stone teaches!! She came to visit our studio last Sunday and i was fortunate to be in her class. She is AMAZING! Have you heard of her?
Chicken burrito sounds good... so does watermellon...and a lot of other things. I am hungry today. Haha :). I was out running errands and forgot to make my lemonade. So i only had about 1 glass from 9am - 2pm! I'm slowing sipping my third glass and it's already 7. Doubt i'll make my daily portion today... is that bad?

Ok, so very weird stuff happening as I come off the cleanse - first all day yesterday I just drank tangelo juice and everything was normal. This morning I had orange juice for breakfast and my eliminations (liquid) smelled SO bad  As bad as the first day of the cleanse. Next, my tongue continues to be coated furry white all over. This usually ends when I start the regular juice, if it hadn't stopped already during the cleanse. Last, I had my veggie soup tonight (it was heaven!!) but I ate it a little bit at a time - starting from about 5:30 until about 7:00 I would stop and eat for maybe 5 minutes, then do something for 15 - 20. So it took me an hour and a half to slowly eat my soup. BUT, it is now 10:00 pm and I still have not had a solid BM. Just about 5-6 turns with butt-pee. This is also really unusual for me. No cramping - everything good, just no solids.
But the funny part in the "I've forgotten how to eat" department: at one point I somehow managed to INHALE a mung bean sprout BACKWARDS from my throat up into my nose !!! I thought, "I didn't really just DO that, did I?" But yes, I actually had to close my mouth and create suction in my throat until I felt it slide out of my nose and back down into my throat again !!! :p I have never experienced anything like that before. Tres bizarre!

Anyone have any tips on what to eat or drink if one wants to do the 'raw food' thing after the MC? The soup recipes sound scrumptious but I would really like to try my best to do 'raw food' eating plan immediately after the cleanse so what could I substitute for the soup and broth days?
This is all new to me so I appreciate any guidance. Thanks!

Do you have a juicer? I like to substitute carrot juice and other veggie juice in place of broth and even just juice some veggies and shread some veggies into the juice too to make a cold soup, tasty and raw.

Diary Day Seventeen
Up at 9.30am this morning and noticed that my mouth tasted salty even before I had my SWF?
I have more white lumps/blisters forming and breaking on both sides of my mouth now and it is still peeling on the inside of my mouth….has anyone else had this result or form of detox?
The skin on my body is feeling a lot softer and the dreaded cellulite is breaking down into softer smaller areas…its really improving …..
Yeaaayyyyy………. what a bonus……….
Reading Peters book and saw where the toxins are stored in the fat cells so that makes sense about the cellulite and I think of all that money I wasted on those expensive creams that didnt work when I could have just done the MC. I am so glad I got this book before I finished my first MC however wished that I had gotten it sooner, like when I put in my first order.
My hands are really flexible and not stiff in any way: In fact I have no pains in my joints and muscles at all. My whole spine is loosening up and flexing which is wonderful considering what my X-Rays had revealed. I can’t remember when I last used a hot pack to ease stiffness or pain.
I am a happy girl for sure………..so all I can say is keep going on the MC to all you ‘Newbies’ as you will never regret it.
I am sold on this method of keeping clean and healthy……..I really don’t want to stop at all as I am on such a natural high.
Just put away my SWF easily for day 18……….”Go Lemonheads”:)

Eating SLOWLY is so important, I think. You'll remember how to eat before you know. Food just seems kinda scary after being on the cleanse and you don't want to mess up what you just finished.
I did not have any solid eliminations until quite a few days after eating. I think maybe it just takes a while for it to move thru' all those feet of intestines that are now totally clear. Also, you're not taking in that much in solids. Once you start adding whole fruits and raw veges things will pick up.

I am beginning day 1. I have a question: I see that I can drink between 6 - 12 glasses of lemonade a day; what if I want to drink less than 6 and replace with water - can I do that? Do I have to have a minimum of 6 glasses?

Hi Lemonheads,
Day 5 and feel pretty good, better than any other previous cleanse. Just kind of tired and of course I would really like an egg and cheese sandwhich. (I know that is bad).
Christene- Thanks for asking, I'm going for 11 or 12 days! Then continueing with healthy eating. I'm reading this great book called good food, good medicine. Very motivating. Isn't it great how health issues seem to fade away with the cleanse. That is motivating too!
Sierra Magic- Glad you are letting us know how your post cleanse is going. Hard to believe its possible to forget how to eat! That was really funny! How was your soup? Was it amazing after all this time? I am so looking forward to it!
Good luck on your journeys fellow lemonheads!

I have read in Peter's book that you really crave those foods that you are detoxing from your system at that moment ......mine was pizza.......lol
