Cayenne pepper is such a wonderful herb, I want to share a great web page explaining its virtues. Some people wonder what it does in the Master Cleanse. Here's some information.

OK, I believe you. I am back to putting cayenne pepper in the lemonade. Took day 4 off from the pepper. Good article, and a must read for anyone making lemonade.

I don't have any cayenne pepper at the moment. I started the cleanse today. If I don't use the pepper for the first few days, will that affect the results of the cleanse?

The pepper is very important. ;) Check out Peter's response at the top of this page and go buy the pepper.

If you want to have great results and not end up quiting the fast before the minimum 10 days, then do not alter the directions in any way for the fast. If you do not have a copy of the Master Cleanse book then go to the following website to read it in its entirety:

http://www.schoolofoptimumhealth.com/body/master_cleanse/master_cleanse.htm

Follow directions and Good luck!

I like to use a lot of cayenne pepper... :o Love the taste... But will overdoing the cayenne alter results?? I like to use about 1/2 tsp per glass... My lemonade is pretty red... Does anyone else out there od on the cayenne?? If so what were the results... By the way, everything else is measured out to the T. And I make it 2 glasses at a time, because one glass doesn't usually satisfy me. :)

In his book, Stanley Burroughs, says on page 18, "1/10th tsp cayenne (red pepper) or to taste." So, add all you want.

My son loves it and put in tons more and had a great result.

I love cayenne pepper. I have some growing in the window, waiting for the garden to be warm enough for it. Everytime I drink the lemonade, I am so happy for that burn. I can't wait to have something hot and spicy when I am back to solid food. Some intense veggie dish that blows my head off!

Have to put in my two cents here. I am on day 12 of second long MC, 28 days last year supervised by my wonderful naturopath who recommended I take the cayenne in capsules! Three per day. I have read reports of people suffering the cayenne in their lemonade and guess what! The caps do the trick.

Burn, baby, burn!

Enjoy, Donna

Hi! I just started the MC today-so far so good!

Has anyone tried cayenne tincture? I just noticed it has 27% grain alcohol. Should I stop using it? I really don't taste any of the heat--I have been using up to 7 drops in each dose of lemonade.

Thanks for the response!

Hi all. Instead of putting the cayenne pepper in the lemonade, i've been taking cayenne pepper pills i've prepared myself. The capsules are vegitarian. Does anyone see any problem with digesting the capsules during the cleanse?

Thanks!

It's hard for me to deal with the cayanne in the lemonade, so this is what 've been doing. I drink the lemonade and then chase it with a shot of cayanne in water. I'm using like 10 times the recomended pepper in the shot.

I hope this is an ok method as I like it, it's kind of like taking a shot of pepper vodka.

Jason,
Sounds good. I am putting less pepper in my drink as I am not enjoying the taste as the days go on. I am putting more cayenne in the morning drinks and less in the evening. As long as you are taking it it probably does not matter. Does it?

Good Luck!

This is my second cleanse, and what i do is similar to a previous post. I drink most of the lemonade, then hold onto the last sip, add the cayenne pepper then drink it down in one fell swoop!! ;D

it seems to help... burns a bit, but i down some water right after and it helps!

Please be aware that although cayenne in capsules is better than not taking cayenne at all, cayenne mixed in as a powder is more readily absorbed and doesn't require the body to digest the gelatin capsule.

Not eating allows the body to direct all its digestive energy toward getting rid of old waste. Gelatin capsules are made of protein and require digestion. :o So, ONLY go the capsule route if you absolutely can't endure the cayenne.

I want to see you get the best results and you will if you follow Burroughs' instructions exactly. ;)

Hey ya'll I'm new around these here parts but I have been around other MC forums on and off around 3 years and have done 3 long MCs (40/28/21) with life changing results.

I agree with Peter regarding the caps. Pretty much this whole cayenne cap hoopla didn't appear until the MC hit mainstream with the celebrity articles about Howard Sterns sidekick Robyn Quivers. She did the MC because of some serious IBS type troubles but all the media focused on was the weightloss aspect. The internet became full of all these unscrupulous folks trying to cash in on the multi million dollar weightloss diet cash cow and started marketing the MC as a package deal. The caps are offered as a convenience item and it has absolutly nothing to do with how they work. Two of the worlds best known naturopath, herbalists and healers Dr Schulz and Dr Christopher who are staunch proponents of the healing properties of cayenne also don't recomend taking the caps.

Check out this link for an explanation why caps are really not a good idea and the best way to do the cayenne. The link also has sugestions of how folks have coped with the cayenne issues including one very well thought out approach if you "must" take the caps.

:-/ Hi Peter:
A dear friend who only eats raw foods has "persuaded me " to try this cleansing fast; I just bought your book today but I started the fast this am; I have high blood pressure so I was reluctant to drink the salt water;I did drink the herbal laxative tea, and the "lemonade," upon drinking the lemonade I began to feel a "rush" itchy feeling which reminded me of when I had taken niacin tablets in the past; truth is I stopped the niacin because of the uncomfortable itchiness that the capsules gave me. I just finished the article you have posted a link for on the benefits of cayenne pepper. Sounds wonderful, but am I going to have this itchiness each time I drink the lemonade? Thanks for you help; Evon

Hi Evon,

Welcome to the MC and the bulletin board. :)

The itchy "rush" feeling you got from taking niacin and drinking the lemonade was sunburn and other radiation appearing and then burning off. Eventually, that itchy "rush" feeling will disappear. It's actually a type of healing crisis where the symptom appears briefly before being completely handled by the body.

As regards high blood pressure and the salt water, if you've been ordered not to ingest any salt by your licensed health care practitioner, I would follow his orders.

However, if you're just avoiding salt because you've read that salt raises blood pressure, you might be interested to know that I don't know of anyone whose blood pressure has increased with the Master Cleanse, but I am aware of a couple people who specifically mentioned their blood pressure went down as a result of the Master Cleanse and kept their blood pressure low by eating a predominantly raw vegan diet. ;)

Peter

Hi Carol,

Welcome to the bulletin board. :)

Use the tip of a knife held horizontally rather than vertically as you would to cut. Put a little in and taste it. If you can't taste it, it's too small. If it's too strong, it's too much. You want to put in as much as you can (cayenne increases the speed of the cleanse) without making it unpleasant. ;)

Hi!
I have just today started the cleanse. A friend of mine did it before and what he said he did was mixed the cayenne pepper with a table spoon of maple syrup and ate it that way then chased it down with the lemonade.

Is that an ok way to do it?

Thanks for your response. Tera

Hi and welcome to your first Master Cleanse. :)

Your friend didn't mention whether he'd sweetened the lemonade already did he?

I suppose, any way you want to take 1 oz. of lemon juice, 1 oz. of organic maple syrup, about 1/10 of a tsp of cayenne and 8 oz. of purified or spring water would work, but why mess with the original directions that Stanley Burroughs gave. I know those will give you great results.

I noticed what looks like Cayenne Pepper in my BM. I'm on my 3rd day. I'm taking 1/10 of a teaspoon as mentioned in the book per 10oz drink. Does this mean, its too much for my body, or that my body is just rejecting it?

I would guess that the cayenne pepper is beginning to work at dissolving the waste in your intestines, which is what it's supposed to do.

:D Hi, I would like to know if you can still perform the master cleanse diet if you are pregnant? I know majority of doctors will say not do it, but I was curious because I have a fear of gain too much weight and I want my skin to continue to be clear. I have to say that I haven't started the diet and I did make it a promise to start next as my new years' resolution. I am also happy to say that I am not addicted to any prcoessed foods and I decided to not eat meat anymore. It was easy to stop eating red meat but I was eating poultry and fish for a while when I decided that these animals are poisned with chemicals and dangerous.

For those not in the know, HU means heat units. It's a means of comparing the degree of heat from different kinds of peppers like jalapenos, habeneros, thai chilis, etc.

Any cayenne will do. The more heat, the faster the cleanse will work as cayenne dilates blood vessels and dissolves old waste. Some people like it very hot. Others not at all. Make it as hot as you can while still not being turned off by the heat. It won't do a person any good to make it so hot they don't want to drink the lemonade.

Burroughs doesn't say one way or another, but I don't recommend it. You don't want to detox and have the toxins go into the baby.

Fortunately, your current diet sounds pretty healthy.

Hi Everyone....

This is my first time doing the master cleanser...well...did it once before but didn't even make it through the day. I wish I loved cayenne pepper but I hate it. It's day one, glass one and I can't stand the pepper. I have cayenne pepper pills that are 50000 heat units. If I take them instead, how many to I have to take a day? Plus I took one the last time I tried the cleanse and it felt like my stomach was going to explode for about an hour. Is that normal / okay?

Thanks

That sure sounds like a lot of cayenne pepper to me to put in your stomach at one time. Â*1/10 of a teaspoon is really pretty small. Maybe your putting in way to much. Â* I have some capsules too that I have opened. Â*I've been measuring with 1/8 teaspoon using a little less and I've gotten about four servings out of one capsule. Â*Hopefully someone who knows more about this will be able to help you. Â*

Hi guys,

Cayenne pepper certainly causes a lot of questions. Cayenne itself is regarded by leading herbalists as the most important herb of all!

Dr. Richard Schulze reports that people who take cayenne capsules don't receive much of the benefit of the cayenne compared to capsules!!

If you think about it, gelatin is made from boiled skin, bones and tendons. That's a lot of digestive work -- especially when everything else in the drink is vegetable or fruit!

Since we are not eating food to give the digestive system a chance to cleanse itself, taking cayenne capsules should not be done.

If you "can't drink cayenne" it's usually because you took too much at some time before this. Start with just a sprinkle and gradually increase it as you tolerate more.

The cayenne dissolves the old waste, dilates blood vessels and brings more circulation to all parts of the body which increases the speed of detoxification, cleansing and healing.

Decide to learn to take cayenne. It's much healthier.

Here is a link to a great web page on cayenne:

I purchased my MC supplies via the link on your website. Part of the package with a bottle of Cayenne Extra hot capsules. I did the cleanse for 10 days and did not use any of these capsules.

Why are they part of the kit? The instructions say to start taking the hot capsules on day 3. But your instructions say to break open capsules - and they say not to break open the hot capsules.

So I broke open the other capsules. I would drink the lemonade and then break 1 whole capsule into the last shot of lemonade and drink it down.

Was that too much cayenne pepper in one shot?

Please advise. :o

peter what can you say about this: ...... Another illusion associated with cayenne pepper is that it aids the healing process. Again, the truth is the exact opposite of what seems to be apparent. Since there is an increased outpouring of mucous when cayenne is eaten, it is falsely assumed that the pepper is cleaning out old mucous deposits from the body. Actually, the body secretes this extra mucous coating to protect itself from the harmful, irritating alkaloids in the peppers. It then uses the mucous secretions to eliminate these alkaloids. This is the body’s defensive response and should be recognized as such.â€

Hi maryann8, :)

HumbleBeeHealth, who has a link on this bulletin board, sells capsules because they believe the capsules from their supplier are more potent than "ordinary" cayenne pepper from the store. I have never compared it, so I can't say if this is true or not. However, HumbleBeeHealth told me that their instructions say to open the capsules and sprinkle the cayenne into the drink.

As to hot or super hot cayenne and how much is too much, the cayenne breaks up mucus and acts as an "accelerator pedal" to speed the cleanse. Too much is when you don't want to drink the lemonade.

I hope this helps,
Peter 8)

Hi Praktist,

I'd say that 1) It looks like a quote, but there's only one quotation mark. 2) It's somebody's opinion and everyone's entitled to one. 3) It is directly opposed to what Burroughs wrote about the origin of the Master Cleanse, which is it cured a man's stomach ulcer. 4) After all the benefits I've read about and heard in hundreds of people, I go along with Burroughs' statements. 5) However, that's not to say that it will work for everyone. Even penicillin doesn't work on people who are allergic to it. It kills them. So, everyone has to learn what works for their body. And finally, 6) Here's a link to a great website on cayenne as a medicinal herb

Hope that helps,

I am 54yo. 5'5 and 257# and am planning on using the cleanse as a stepping stone to hopefully better eating. and of course weight loss.
This is day one and I have take one small spoonful of dried 'crushed red pepper' that I have on hand. Actually have about 3 jars or so of it as I bought it on sale a long time ago and it has not been used.
My question: It seems like all the comments and replies I have read about the cayenne seems to be about it in powdered form. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments about using it in the dried form?
Thanks in advance for any and all comments. I have appreciated reading the bulletin board. It is very helpful plus all the support that is given. Thanks again

Radiant,

Why don't you just pour a capsule into a measuring spoon (1/8 or 1/4) and see how much you get... is it powder or liquid? If powder you can see how many it takes to fill 1/2 tsp for example and then get a feel for what that is re: 10ths. e.g. 1/2 tsp = 5/10 if it took 5 capsules 1 capsule would equal 1/10th and that would be exactly right! anyway, just a suggestion!

Best, DebJ ;)

2 Questions:

1. The recipe calls for 1/10th of a teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Therefore, I use a hair less than half of a 1/4 teaspoon since that's the smallest measurement I have at home. Did I compute that correctly?

2. I guess I'm in the minority regarding the cayenne pepper. I just don't like the stuff. I assume I ought to just get used to it. However, before I set my mind towards doing that I just want to make sure there isn't another way of doing things to make it more enjoyable for me. For example, can I use slightly less cayenne pepper in my lemonade as long as I end up getting the same total amount for the day? For example, I drink about 7 glasses a day with 1/10th a tsp of cayenne pepper. Could I do a little less than that and drink 9 or 10 glasses of lemonade? I would still be getting about the same amount of cayenne pepper, but it would taste much better to me.

OR

Could I just put a 1/10th tsp of cayenne pepper in a shot glass of spring water and drink 6 or 7 a day followed by lemonade without the cayenne pepper? That would be my preference! ;D

Oops..
I've been using Cayenne Pepper up untill the night of day 10. I ran out. I saw a few people mention "Red Pepper" so I used a tiny bit of"Crushed Red Pepper" that I found in the cupboard.

I've had gas and a burning stomach ache an hour or so later...and still have it..

Wrong stuff? :-[

And if so, does this mean the fast basically has to start over from day 1? I planned on going 20 days, but not 20 starting from tomorrow...

If I'm already screwed, I rather break the fast and then liver cleanse in a week. ::)

Hi Noob,

Cayenne pepper is the name given to any type of crushed, hot red pepper so you didn't mess anything up by using the crushed red pepper in your cupboard. :)

You didn't set yourself back to day 1. :D

Hi all,
I'm starting my first MC tomorrow. Today, I did some rehersal to understand a little bit how I was going to feel and how to prepare the lemonade. I had only 3 glasses of lemo, eat pistachos for dinner and I'm about to prepare my Tea. But, one thing that I didn't really like was the Cayenne. I'm not worry abou the SFlush since as a girl I used to drink sea water in the beach with my granpa (who always told me to so if I needed to go ;-).

Any way, in my 3rd limonade today, I tried to put less CP (like half of a 1/8 tsp). but, it still gave me that ichy/burning sensation that goes all the way to the hair in my head. Is this normal too? Reading this thread made me feel better about it. But, I'm still wondering how long will it take the getting used to or if it will go away after a few days. Can you share with me some more of your experiences?

Guest

Thanks Peter. ;D

Robin,

I think you just have to build your tollerance up for it. The burning sensation is normal. Try just adding a few specs of it and slowly add more in... You could always down some cold water after the lemonade to help kill the burning feeling.

I'm on day 30. A few days ago I switched brands of Cayenne hoping it was hotter than what I was using. Well, it is. But that's not really the problem. My first lemonade with the new Cayenne..instant sickness and I threw up part of the lemonade.

Figured I used too much, it's ground finer so thought maybe I needed less.. I haven't thrown up again, but I'm still getting nauseaus and cramping/burning in my stomach from it. Like a bad burning feeling that goes up my throat and makes me nauseated on top of it, not a typical hotness feeling.

I'm not getting sick or anything.. I skipped the cayenne in a few lemonades and felt fine. I bought this at WholeFoods, so it can't be a bad brand..

What the heck? ???

PETER - A friend of mine started the cleanse on Monday and today woke up with one eye terribly bloodshot. She looked on the web (Mayo Clinis site) and found that cayenne pepper can cause bloodshot eyes.

Should she stop using the cayenne or can she just reduce her intake?

Please help.

Peter
October 13th, 2005, 06:27 AM
Hmmmm.....

Only one eye? ??? If it was the cayenne pepper, it would seem like it would be both eyes. Also, this is the first bloodshot eye I've heard of in about 600 postings. It could be something unrelated to the cleanse, like she rubbed her eye or got something in it.

More likely she is just having a detox symptom. Has she ever had this happen before? After all, this is her day 3. In my book, Lose Weight, Have more Energy & Be Happier in 10 Days, I point out that days 2, 3 and 7 are the worst.

I'd recommend she not change anything for a day and see if it's gone or much better tomorrow. That would be the result if if's just a detox symptom. If it's not better, then I would suspect it's something else and recommend she consult a licensed health care practitioiner.

all of that to say that the cayenne pepper is a must and extremely important to the breakdown of accumulated mucus in the body. ;)

Yes i typically at least double or triple the amount of pepper.

As far as i know that can only speed up and help the process. Cayenne just happens to be one of my favorites.

Hi, I have a question regarding the cayenne pepper. I ordered a kit from HumbleBeeHealth and received capsules of non-organic cayenne. I thought we couldn't consume capsules and I thought that organic cayenne pepper was supposed to be used. I am emptying 1 capsule per drink, however, should I be using organic cayenne instead of what was sent with the kit?

Also, the kit came with iodized salt. I thought we are supposed to use non-iodized salt. Why would this site recommend to purchase products from another site that doesn't following the protocol?

Please advise.

Thanks.

1st Time Master Cleanser

I'm worried about going back to work tomorrow and how I'll hold up. The main thing I'm worried about is the cayenne pepper. I know you aren't supposed to add it ahead of time because it gets the Lemonade too hot. I have the Cayenne Pepper capsules, which I've been opening up and splitting the 1/4 teaspoon contents between two lemonades (I throw away the gelatin capsules). Since it won't be easy for me to measure amounts, I figure my options are to either put one capsule in each lemonade or try to eyeball the half amount.

How have other people dealt with keeping up the Lemonades a the office? ???

Hi, I'm cytrus, and something's wrong w/ my password.

Anyway, PETER, oor anyone who has experienced this, I have a question.

This is my 4th cleanse. On the other cleanses I bought capsules and emptied them. On this cleanse I've bought 90 K H.U. cayenne from the organic market. I am on day 10 (1/14/06), and plan to go till my tongue is clear. the issue is i 'm experiencing severe burning pains under my ribcage. it's not near my heart, so I don't know if its heartburn. I experienced on the 5th, 7th, 9th ,and 10th day. Is it something to worry about? I put 1/4 tsp cayenne in my drinks. I like the taste, and its never been an issue before. My mom says its gas, and I should see a doctor. NEVER suffered from gas before. Any suggestions?

Hi Citrus. I replied in your other thread.. It sounds like liver/gallbladder stones that need to be flushed out.

I'm having burning problems from cayenne and those cramps are all across my stomach, not just one spot

HI,
I am on Day 21. I switched to the 90,000 H.U. pepper yesterday and this morning I had to have an elimination before my SWF. A burning elimination. What came out was semi-solid, I am guessing mucoid plaque, its the most I've eliminated on the cleanse thus far. So a good pepper makes a difference. Had I known this before I would have started out on the 90,000 H.U. pepper rather than using the 40,000 H.U. capsules from HumbleBee. Well I have about 7 days yet to go we'll see what yet comes out while on the new pepper.

Hello to everyone. This is my first post on this site and I want to share with you what I’ve learned about helping my health using the natural way.
I finally reached the end of the road for chemical drugs that I’ve put in my body for years with no healing ever occurring.
I have suffered with COPD attacking my body for about three years and I was not getting any better using the prescriptions/drugs that my doctor had prescribed for me to consume. I began looking for a better way to help my lungs and my body and I happen to run across an article about Cayenne Pepper and Colloidal Silver helping others that had suffered from COPD attacking their bodies.
I was a little skeptical of the claims that were made about cayenne pepper and colloidal silver being used to help those suffering with the attacks of COPD. But, I was on the hunt and I began to use cayenne pepper 90 THU and colloidal silver to expel some of the mucus that was stored in my lungs and to open up my lungs so that the oxygen coming in could be used. It took a few days before I received any relief but it worked very well for me and I have almost stopped using my nebulizer and the Albuterol/Ipratropium that I’ve consume many times daily for the last three years.
The cayenne pepper helped to loosen and remove the ugly thick coating of mucus from my lungs. I’m feeling very good today and have been for awhile now.

I started the MC five days ago and I’m hoping to help my body do its job even better than it has been doing in the past. So to all of you already on the MC and those that are about to start I wish you all the success and great health that we all deserve to have by using natural products that The Creator has provided us all to use.

If anyone is interested in using Cayenne Pepper and Colloidal Silver for asthmas, or other lung congestions I will be more that glad to provide what I did and what I’ve learned about helping those with chronic lung diseases.

Thank You Peter for this great site you have up and running I’ve learned a great deal here from the posts that people have given.

Question here. A few years ago a Naturapath told me to take cayenne pepper in capsul form for my allergies. He was stunned to find out that I am allergic to Cayenne pepper. Within a few minutes of taking the capsuls, I would have violent vomiting and it would last for some time. I can tell you it burns much more coming back up!!! The Dr. didn't believe at first that it was the cayenne and talked me into taking it again to see what happened. Yep the same thing.

So , what do I do?

Is it the extra hot cayenne?

I am on day 25 of the MC and have lost 24 pounds, went down from 206 to 182. I will probably break the cleanse today and start the OJ. Just a question. About six days ago I switched from the 40,000 HU cayenne to the 90,000 HU cayenne and noticed that the same day I was developing a sore throat. I thought it was the coating on my tongue irritating my throat so I began scraping my tongue with a spoon to remove as much of the coating as I could. That maybe helped a little. But than last night I started coughing so much that I couldn't sleep and the sore throat was so bad I sucked on a SUCRETS throat lozenge which I know is a NO NO on the MC. So I am wondering was getting the sore throat at this time a coincidence or Is it the extra hot cayenne? If any one out there has an answer please share.

This is my first full day on my third time cleansing. The first two cleanses I used the cayenne in capsule form. In the drink I could not handle it. I did read all the cons of the gelatin capsule and how it needs to be digested etc. I never thought about it and always felt I had two successful cleanses. I had terrible reflux which seems to have gone away after my last cleanse. So I fear Cayenne.
Today I actually poured almost all the capsule on my tongue and took my first swig of lemonade. It is much easier to handle Â*than actually putting it in your drink. I figured if I am going to do this lets do it right and make it worth my time.
My first couple days not much usually happens, but this way it seems to be working better so far. Â*It is only day one so I won't get ahead of myself yet.
I will be the guinea pig of all the people like me that fear the Cayenne. I will have tried it both ways and see if I notice a difference. I will report again around day five and give some results.

I believe that the Cayenne has very important properties which are crucial to a successful cleanse. I like to use a very strong half teaspoon as well, but in a "double" serving. 2 ounces lemon, 2 ounces syrup, twenty ounces water.

During my workday, I find sipping the "nuclear" strength lemonade very refreshing and the burn has a cleansing effect on my mouth and breath.

Also, I've been drinking Canada Dry naturally flavored sparkling water instead of regular water. It's really good. Does anyone know if that's okay to do also?

Maybe if you're using too much. It could either mean you're detoxing somethong major and it's toxins. Or it's from the tea ..try steeping it less.

Be happy about the hot ones.
Thats toxins leaving your body.

The cayenne does not remain hot till it comes out. Thats definitely toxins your experiencing and it will be stronger during a good detox.

Something that might be helpful, try to use a real measuring spoon for the cayenne (and everything for that matter). They are very inexpensive, less than a dollar at Wal-Mart and most stores, usually four sizes to a ring. Tablespoon, teaspoon, 1/2 teaspoon and 1/4 teaspoon. I know some people who were using a teaspoon from the place setting one puts on the dining table. Those things come in all sizes, usually way more than a real measured teaspoon. Lots of people were putting in too much at first (sometimes one can gradually work up to large amounts). The smallest measured size is 1/4 teaspoon. It's very small. Then you must still cut that in half which will give you 1/8 of a teaspoon which is about 1 and 1/4 tenths. So a little less than half of the smallest 1/4 teaspoon would be the correct amount. It's really small and shouldn't give anyone much trouble. Hope that helps. Stir well!

no to the chili pepper

yes you can use cayenne pepper from the supermarket

the purpose of the cayenne and the cleanse isn't weightloss, it's cleansing and the cayenne helps with the cleansing and it is suggested to not omit or alter any part of the cleanse in order to achieve maximum cleansing and good health

I missed if this was answered, but it was mentioned about doing a shot of cayanne pepper and then drinking the lemonade with just the lemons and syrup. Will this work?

I tried drinking the juice with the pepper and I could not take it. I hate all things remotely spicey! So I mixed a shot of 1/10 tsp cayanne pepper, 1tbsp lemon juice and the rest water and took that and chased it with half a bottle of water. It only hurt for a few minutes. I then drank my lemonade mixute. That was much easier than trying to drink the lemonade with the pepper in it. Will this still have the same effects??

Hello, all... Today is my first day on the cleanse and I wanted to say that this forum has been a great source of information about all aspects of the MC.

I have read two post in this thread so far regarding cayenne pepper tincture versus the powder and no one has yet responded as far as I can tell.

My mother brought home some cayenne tincture a couple of weeks ago to use as a natural remedy when fighting off a cold and we've had it around the house. I use the tincture in my lemonade.

The tincture is very strong and I only use about 10 drops from an eyedropper in each serving. Could Peter or anyone else post a response about they're experience? I would be curious to know if I am the only one.

This is my 1st post and first day on the MC. I have a few questions regarding the cayenne. I am having a really hard time with it I was not able to take it full strength. So when I made up my bottle 32oz this morning I put approx. half of one capsule into the bottle and I plan on taking the other 2 capsules in capsule form throughout the day. I have approx. had 16oz of the lemonade so far and 1 cayenne capsule and I am really uncomfortable. My chest feels very tight and like it is burning inside. Is this normal? I normally do not eat spicy foods or drinks because I don't not like the way they make me feel. Will this go away? I hope it is really uncomfortable. Please let me know if I can expect some releif from this feeling. I really want to stay with the cleanse and this is the only problem I am having.

I heard from someone today that the cayenne is not good for the stomach after several days of an empty stomach. Anyone hear anything about this? I remember reading in Burrough's book that he wrote this cleanse for a man suffering from ulcers. This is one of the reasons I was excited about the cleanse as I have gastritis and several small ulcers. However, I don't want to do anything that may aggravate them. Just wondering if there is any merit to this person's concern that cayenne on an empty stomach isn't good for the stomach. Please advise.

Hi Lady Cordelia, can't say whether the cayenne would affect stomach ulcers (is there any info at shirleys cafe ? or worth emailing them ? http://www.shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/cayenne.htm ), but if you think about it, you're not really having the cayenne on an empty stomach, as there is also the lemon juice and the maple syrup to consider :)

Good luck with the cleanse, and fingers crossed it gives your poor tummy chance to heal xxx

I bought the cayenne powder, but it doesn't mix well with the drink. Despite stirring and shaking the drink well, I see all the little red dots from the cayenne concentrate on the top of the drink or bottem. So the drink has too much sting at first, then absolutely no sting til I get to the bottem. What am I doing wrong.

Glad to hear about cayenne pills being ok. My first day I spent a half hour in absolute agony trying to eliminate what was nothing more than the recommended amount of cayenne...have been using the smallest pinch in each 32 oz. batch since. I must have extra sensitive insides I guess.

p.s. I also can't do the "red sauce" at those ma and pa burrito places without going through the same heinous ordeal hours a few hours later. Go figure.

After all the comments I've been reading about following Burroughs direction exactly, I just thought there was something I should point out.

In the book he talks about altering the amount of maple syrup depending on whether you're over or underweight. I myself am underweight, so I add more maple syrup then normal. If not, I keep feeling really tired and rundown.

He also mentions that you can add cayenne pepper to taste. I think it's fair to say that Stanley Burroughs, as intense of a nutritionist he may have been, was also a humanist, understanding that everyone is different, and possibly trying to help people avoid some discomfort. The most important thing is the fast afterall isn't it? It's a time for the body (and the mind, let us not forget that) to rest itself from the digestion and its fixation on food. It's a time for our bodys to heal, rest and rejuvenate itself, as well as a time for our minds to relax it's thought on food, what and where you're going to eat (isn't this what we all spend a great deal of our time on everyday?) and reflect on ourselves, and our lives in general.

well said!

on my first MC i realised simple things like
- when and why I eat (alot of times for emotional or social reasons)
- how much of my day and mind were freed up by not having to deal with eating
- how much of a social activity eating is (that's what i missed most)
- how truly awesome and amazing the Creator is and I am and life is
- the difference between want and need

peanutterb

it is necessary and there are no substitutes bc cayenne pills are covered in gelatin and that's something you'll have to digest. take a shot of cayenne in a small glass of water then follow it up with lemonade. check out the "cayenne pepper" sticky thread at the top of the page and also "general help for newbies" which may be on page 2 by now.

Can anyone answer the question about whether the pepper taken in capsule form would be okay or not ? I am starting my first cleanse and have taken cayenne pepper off and on for years but always in the capsule form... mixing it in the lemonade drink is strong tasting but not a problem -- I just don't take as much when mixing it in.. (maybe both a little mixed in a couple of caps on the side ?)

peanutterb

people have done it but it's not recommended bc the gelatin on the capsules need to be digested and the whole point of the cleanse is to slow down/ stop digestion

Hi everyone, I was reading through the old posts and was interested to hear how cayenne may have cleared people's lungs.

Last fall I had this very strange "cold" that lasted easily thru feb or March. It was very off for me as I rarely get sick. I went to the dr several times and she wanted me to go on several medications including nebulizers etc, but I was not comfortable and never did.

I was going through a lot of emotional stress at the time including some "repressed" grief over the death of my birth mother whom I hadn't seen in over 20 years.

I read somewhere that grief is "expressed" in the lungs, and coincidentally the dr also had me go on an antidepressant, and though I tried it for 6 weeks or so, in the end I went off of them against my Dr's recomendations. Oddly enough, I found my lungs did clear up though.

I love spicy things and have not had a problem with the full dose in my lemonade so far, but I don't love the combination of tastes so I may just add a pinch and do a shot of extra as some have recommened.

Thanks for all the great info and support on these boards!

Take care, Millie

Hello, I am on day 12 of a 30 or 30+ cleanse. I feel that sometimes it takes all day long just to flush out my salt water from the morning. I also think that my stomach is still bulgie. Is it possible for there to be an inflammation of some kind. I am wondering if the cayenne has anything to do with this. Probably not, since no one else seems to be complaining of this.

I wonder why my salt water trickles out all day long rather than just flushing out like other people describe?

Cayenne pepper is such a wonderful herb, I want to share a great web page explaining its virtues. Some people wonder what it does in the Master Cleanse. Here's some information.

I can't handel the temp of Cayenne pepper, so I am having a hard time getting the drink down. I am a wimp!!

Today is my first day and my husbands. I just had a D&C 4 weeks ago and started my first period today. I don't have the book right now, due to money issues, but a friend who does the detox told me about the items and amounts to put in the drink.

well based off everything i've heard on here and experienced myself, the cayenne capsules are a no no
but
i did take a shot of cayenne (about 1/2 tsp of cayenne in about 3 or 4 oz of water) and knocked that back real quick and followed it up with a glass of lemonade. i'd do that in the mornings then just put in a tiny pinch of cayenne in my glasses of lemonade for the rest of the day.
the cayenne helps your heart, blood, congestion and mucus removal and keeps you warm. i actually prefer the taste of the lemonade with a bit of cayenne.

I do love that bayareababe said if it ain't broke don't fix it tho. Amen to that!
so many people try to adjust and change the cleanse and i always think to myself, it was designed that way for a reason and it's been working that way, so just do it that way. especially if it's your first cleanse. it's better to do it all the way and all the way right at least the first time then after you can try a few different things and see how it goes. Peter posted the following: "Dr. Schultze, a master herbalist, says you must take cayenne by mouth because it stimulates nerve endings in your mouth that create an immediate effect in your body. People who take capsules do not get the full benefit.

Don't put in so much you don't want to drink the lemonade. If you have to, work up to it, but don't omit it or use capsules."

Definitely starting off "lighter" with the cayenne and building up should help you to be able to tolerate it.

Hope this helps. :)

I pre-made my lemonade for tommorrow and put a little too much cayenne pepper in the mix-will this decrease the effectiveness? Hoping to make it all the way through the 10 day cleanse, this is my first time but a friend of mine is a huge advocate and recommened it after a series of health problems like raynauds disease(which constricts blood to my finger and toes) rheumetoid arthritis, and carpal tunnel.Along with excessive consumption of alcohol and a recent weight gain. Does anyone know if this will help any of these conditions? I want so desperately to gain agility back in my hands!

I don't know if that will help the conditions you mention or not I hope so because I have raynauds as well as a result of Lupus and arthritis. I have read that you can add as much pepper as you like I added to much my first day, from what I understand it is good for you. I did drink mine and it was fine. good luck

Hi Longing2Live:

You absolutely don't want to put the cayenne in until right before you drink. The cayenne gets "HOTTER" in the liquid and YOWSA!

Here's what I do: I measure out the maple the night before.
Squeeze the lemons into the maple in the morning.
Add the cayenne at work to each glass right before I drink it.

I spent my first 23 day cleanse drinking everything mixed together the night before -before I found this BB and discovered I was doing it wrong! No wonder everything was on Fire! :o

The cleanse is rather amazing because of how deep the cleansing goes. I can't wait to see how you feel at the end of 10 Days. You'll probably have a rough detox day or two, but we all go through it. We're here for you.

Keep us posted on how you're doing and Welcome Aboard! :D

Yee-ouch!

I just finished the last of my Cayenne Pepper, so brought some new, fresh stuff home tonight and used the same proportions I've been using. I really like Cayenne, so have been using quite a bit. I forgot to calibrate the new batch. As you've probably guess by now, it must be one of the hottest I've tasted. My mouth is on fire!

Thanks for listening. :) Next time, I'll remember to test out a new batch slowly.

today is my first day of the MC. I tried the lemonade and it sucks. I know the book says to use warm water but, I thought I try it with ice cold water. It shocked my throat...feeling the cayenne, which is really hot. I never thought it was going to be that hot and strong. I do like spicy food but, this is hot liquid.
I'm scared to even have another cup. I've read threads where some say that you'll get used to it and I know that's true. But, maybe I just need some encouragement that is why I came on here.

I don't want to quit since I had put this cleansing on hold until today. Should I use regular room temperature water? Is there any way on how to make the drink more enjoyable? My tummy is hungry. I never had a headache today...which is good and I hope not to get any in the feature while on the cleansing.

I'm hopeing someone could help me, give me some kind of encouragement.

thanks everyone!

Hi Traci!

Congratulations on getting started!! You can try your MC drink with a little less cayenne pepper. I remember my 1st mix was WAY TOO HOT! So on my next one I decreased the amount some and it was much better. But you gotta have the caynenne pepper in there for the benefits.

You can definitely push thru with drinking the lemonade drinks, afterwhile it just becomes 2nd nature!

I can't wait to hear about your progress!

Keep Drinking!!! :)

Hi Traci,

I haven't tried the drink cold, but I do drink it hot, like a cup of tea. I use quite a bit of cayenne (love spice), but my husband can barely tolerate one shake (I use about 3). I've had it room temperature, but only because sometimes my "tea" goes cold before I've finished it :). Persevere if you can, it's worth the effort in the end.

Hi Everyone....

I've read through the threads regarding "Cayenne Pepper" and I know there was one thread where someone explained on how to figure out how to measure 1/10 of a tsp. That Saturday when I first tried the drink....I accidentally poured more than 1/10 LOL.....I just got up from taking a nap and I was thirsty.

Can someone tell me or give me the link?

Thanks very much.

I HATE the flavor of the cayenne with the maple syrup. It seriously makes me gag.

I read a previous post that recommended trying cayenne pepper capsules. Does anyone know if this is OK? I don't want to give up on the cayenne completely, but there is no way I can get through the cleanse drinking it in the lemonade mixture.

Today is my second day, and I managed to choke it all down yesterday. Made the mix without it today, though, and it is MUCH more tolerable. Maybe I can just do a shot of cayenne seperate from the lemonade????????????:o

Hi Craven,

No, the cayenne extract won't do. I presume you've tried various food coops or health food stores? Call around.

But if all else fails, you can always buy cayenne in a grocery store. In the spice aisle. Even though we go through a lot, a jar would probably certainly see you through pretty easily.

No on the extract, and no on the sparkling water. Use regular cayenne pepper powder, and drink only plain spring or filtered water.

craven, extracts and tinctures contain alcohol. no alcohol is allowed on the cleanse.

l_lorenzo81 No cayenne capsules. they have gelatin and will stimulate digestion. we don't want that.
the cayenne never dissolves in the drink. you just stir it up and take it.
tryng taking a shot of cayenne, with a little water and follow with a glass of lemonade without cayenne. do this once or twice a day to get in your cayenne and then you can have your lemonades without cayenne for the rest of the day.

take a cayenne shot - about 1/2 tsp of cayenne in water or a little lemonade, then follow up with a full glass of lemonade. then no more for the day.

also, just try adding the littlest pinches of cayenne and shaking/ stirring before each gulp/ sip and follow up with water.

if you check on page one of this thread, you'll see a link with all the benefits of cayenne. you def want to try not to miss out on those.

Would really appreciate some insight as at the moment I'm in a quandary.

2nd day on the cleanse and I'm motivated to see the end results but am major frustrated. I've been diagnosed in the past with leaky gut, candida and associated allergies. One of those allergies is to pepper.

In the past when I eat a lot of foods that I'm sensiitive to I don't sneeze, my stomatch just hurts. Eating all this pepper appears to be causing significant discomfort in my stomach, specifically the illeocecal valve.

I've read the board quite a bit and done searches but haven't found threads where anyone quit the cleanse due to stomach discomfort or allergie reactions from the pepper, lemons or maple syrup. Am I unique in this or did they all die from it before they could post about it? :D What is frustating is I'm also weird in that the lemonade including the cayenne tastes great, the SWF is rolerable and no problems with hunger pains or anything. Just stomach pains.

Debating on whether to fight through this discomfort or fold my cards. If I knew that the pain would be exruciating for a couple days but at some point they'd pass and everything would be okay I'd fight through. Anyone else have a similar experience? Really looking forward to hearing your input! Thanks

Hiya MrTryst: Welcome Aboard! :D

Many many members have stomach issues the first 4 days. SO, I'm not certain if it really is the pepper. Try this; cut back a bit on the pepper but not all together. See if it helps to push through the first few days.

Peter just sent out a really informative Newsletter, I'll quote:

"1. Probiotics, Candida and the Master Cleanse

Q: Does the maple syrup feed the yeast? Is the cleanse effective for
yeast buildup as well as others kinds of toxins? My husband is
considering joining me but is concerned about the yeast factor.

A: I'm aware of the conventional medical theory that yeast grows on/in
sugar and therefore all sweets should be avoided. I'm also aware that
this doesn't seem more than a Band-Aid for sufferers and I've heard no
miracle cures. Victoria Boutenko, a raw food author and lecturer, has a
different theory. She says Candida can be eliminated by eliminating all
fats and oils for 3 days to 2 weeks. (The length of time matches the
severity of the yeast infection.) That's also about the length of the
Master Cleanse. Perhaps that's part of the benefits of the cleanse. I
haven't talked to anyone who's followed her advice, but I know of only a
very, very few people who have done the Master Cleanse and had a problem with yeast afterwards. Also, that was before I recommended people take a round of probiotics after resuming eating solid food. Probiotics are the good bacteria in your intestines that prevent bad bacteria (the bacteria that cause Candida, for example) from getting out of control. They also produce vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B12, and K; and kill some disease-causing germs in your intestines. Recent studies have reported lower cholesterol and help in cases of irritable bowel syndrome
(diarrhea, pain, and heightened food sensitivities) as well.

To gather more information and Candida/yeast overgrowth and the Master Cleanse, I've started a poll on the Bulletin Board on this topic
(http://www.therawfoodsite.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2032 (http://www.therawfoodsite.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2032)). So, if you have experience concerning yeast and the Master Cleanse, please vote in the poll."

I hope this helps somewhat. Keep us posted on what you decide. No matter what you decide we're really glad you're here! :D

hey dmbelt,
just use a little cayenne if it's giving you a hard time. start small until you get more used to it and work your way up. also follow each lemonade with a glass of water. i had sinus and stomach probs pre-MC1 and i've been doing great since. Stick in there, it's totally worth it.

wildwily, interesting to juice the peppers. haven't heard that one before. i donno if it's kosher or not but i really don't see why not. it's not like extracts or tinctures that have alcohol in them. but one thing to note, being extra cold is normal on the cleanse as your metabolism slows so the general advice is to bundle up. the ocassional glass of hot tea helps too :)

You should be lucky, is what you are! :D

Yes, you should have added 8. I'm one who does that--makes a 10-glass batch of lemonade and adds a full teaspoon of cayenne to the batch and then works on it all day.

However, most people find that cayenne added to a batch tends to build in heat as the day progresses. So the chances are, if you are one of those, you will definitely notice the cayenne by the end of that batch!

For those people (wimps, I call them! wimps!), it's best to make up your batch and then bring cayenne along with you and add it to each glass as you drink it.

For today, just drink what you have and enjoy! :)

No, that's no good. Way too much other stuff in there, and plus it's been cooked in order to be bottled.

Stick with regular cayenne. It does get gritty and tends to sink to the bottom. I just stir or shake before I drink. Emptying capsules is fine. So is taking a shot with the cayenne first and following it with the lemonade mix.

Hi chanukah, i am unsure on the cayenne question, but for the other, you can definately NOT do the MC during the week and eat on the weekends, then back on it. It has to be a continuous cleanse in order to be effective. You do not want to continuously shock your body doing a back and forth yoyo. It would definately hinder more than help. Maybe this is not the best time for you to do this cleanse. Maybe after the holiday when you can do it correctly.

DZ, cut the cayenne down if you want and then build up again. I think you'll find after a while you can tolerate it better. Also, it helps if you put it in the drink just at the last moment. If you make your lemonade ahead of time, the cayenne seems to get hotter as it sits. (Of course, I like it that way, LOL. But I seem to be in a definite minority.)

Brittany, if you use the capsules it's best to open them and dump the cayenne into your drink. The gelatin in the capsules isn't part of the cleanse and can cause your system to need to start digesting again, which can make you hungrier and dilute some of the benefits of the cleanse.

:)

Hello! I'm a newbie....today is day 4 of my first MC. My question is about the cayenne shots. I've seen much discussion about them (I have read this thread twice...yeah for me!!!) but not much information on the amount of cayenne. Only one mention said 1/2 tsp. pepper shot once a day. What is the usual amount that you guys mix for a shot? I do like the pepper in my lemonade...just not all the time. So what I was thinking is doing two shots (am and pm) with 1/4 tsp pepper and chasing with lemonade...and then mixing another 1/2 teaspoon in at various times with my drinks...that way I'm getting a full teaspoon throughout the day. Does anybody get brave and do a shot with a full teaspoon??? The 1/4 tsp wasn't bad...and I don't tolerate spicey too well...but I don't know that I could handle more than that. I'm just curious what everyone else does for the shots. Glad to have this forum...it's a big help!!! :D

Isn't the idea to have a steady stream of cayenne pepper in your system throughout the day, thus the 1/10 tsp amount with each drink?

That's what I am doing....I drink 10 8oz glasses a day...two at a time. First glass is two cups juice as a chaser for 1/4 tsp. cayenne shot. Next three glasses is two cups with a smidge under 1/4 tsp cayenne in each. Last glass same as the first. So I'm getting a little bit of extra cayenne...which shouldn't be bad...and I am getting it throughout the day.

Any thoughts?

the capsules are coated in gelatin which is difficult to digest and the point of the MC is to slow down digestion so your body can focus its energy elsewhere so it can heal and repair itself. if you keep stirring up digestion, you are lessening the actual healing and cleansing.

to avoid heartburn and such, make sure you don't let the cayenne sit in your drink.

Peter, thanks for the posts on cayenne pepper and the tounge. My bf and I are on day 4 and doing very well! My bf doesn't like the pepper, so the link you provided will help encourage him to use more. I like alot, I think the hot helps me through the desire to eat. We did our first cleanse in July, after a co-worker told me about it. This time with the support from your forum, I'm enjoying it even more! It feels great to be part of a group of health conscious people!

ok, i will sound silly. i'm new at this and i sort of rushed. this is what i did.

i made 10 servings of the lemonade drink AND i put in the cayenne pepper already. and i heard that you weren't suppose to do that. one reason being that the pepper gets hotter with time. after reading that i quickly put all the lemonade i made into the freezer. is this a problem? i'm going to fast tomorrow. and all the lemonade i made will be for tomorrow's fast. is freezing the drink going to effect my fast?

thanks guys.

Hey, I'm new in this forum and to Master Cleanser. So I sorta rushed today. and i'm sorry if this question was already answered.

I prepared 10 servings of the lemonade. I don't start my fast till tomorrow. I've also put in the cayanne pepper. Is this going to be a problem? After hearing that the pepper gets hotter as it sits, i quickly threw all the lemonade into the freezer. Is this also going to effect the Master Cleanse?

Thanks.

Hi 9eve, I would suggest you read the book and the thread on general help for newbies. It will answer alot of your questions.

The drinks need to be made as close as to the time you will be drinking them. This is not to say you can't make a batch the morning you're going to work, etc, like I do. I make 2- 30 ounce containers and take it to work, adding the cayenne after I get there, since yes, cayenne gets hotter in the drink as it sits. Do not prepare your lemon juice the night before, the enzymes break down very quickly, and the nutrients decrease. Freezing also kills enzymes.

Don't rush too much and not get it right :)

No, go ahead and use it. Then just make it up as you go along from here on out. I usually do a couple of liters at a time myself. (But I put the cayenne in at the beginning--I don't mind that it gets hotter, I don't even notice it doing so to tell you the truth!) :)

Hi fasters,

I am on day 5 of my first cleanse and I am have been fine up until today. At first, I mixed the cayenne into the lemonade and I didn't mind the taste, but I noticed that by the end of the day, I had a little heartburn. Then I moved on to doing a shot of cayenne and room temp. water, then following right away with lemonade. That worked for the last two days. Today, though, my heartburn is quite severe and I've only been able to do two shots of cayenne. I've had more lemonade without cayenne and I've also had some mint tea, but the heartburn will not subside. Is there anything I can take to soothe it?

From time to time I did get heartburn in my previous eating "life." Mostly it involved coffee or sugary things. I love spicy food and never have problems with heartburn after eating, for instance, Thai curry or salsa, etc.

I saw a tip a few pages back suggesting to take the cayenne with a spoon of maple syrup (a spoonful of sugar, if you will), so I'm going to try that right now. I really don't want to give up! Thanks for any ideas...

Jim-Jam: Same thing happened to me on 3 of my cleanses. Make sure you don't lie down after drinking the lemonade. Also the pepper gets hotter when it's kept in the liquid.

I'm not certain it's the pepper "going down" that's the problem. It's how your body is handling digesting it. It may not even be the pepper - it could be more of the toxins being released. It sure felt like heartburn to me when I was going through it but heartburn didn't make any sense since I never had it when I ate.

Whatever I can't completely figure out and when it's not something that I normally go through I chalk it up to being detox symptoms.

Keep us posted on how you're doing. :)

Love,
~Res

Try getting cayenne that is less hot, like 35,000 heat units instead of 90,000 or 180,000. Maybe that will help. Also read the website about the benefits of cayenne pepper noted in Peter's book. It may give you the will to incorporate it into your cleanse as directed.
Good Luck.

no cayenne tinctures, drops or capsules. The drops and tinctures are in very high proof alcohol, and the capsules are in gelatin. You can make cayenne shots with water or your lemon drink to take it, if it too much for you, but the cayenne helps break up mucous, plaque and a whole array of other great benefits. It says 1/10 tsp, but it can be to taste. I find that abit hot for me so I use less and it's fine. Also, just add the cayenne as you drink your drinks. Adding it before to a large bottle makes it hotter. But it IS a component of the MC:P

hope this helps.

I don't know if that will help the conditions you mention or not I hope so because I have raynauds as well as a result of Lupus and arthritis. I have read that you can add as much pepper as you like I added to much my first day, from what I understand it is good for you. I did drink mine and it was fine. good luck

hi natureslove, i have lupus too & i just finished 10 day mc some 11 days ago. my first one. i didn't have any difficulty while on it & i really felt so great. unfortunately, i went back to my old bad eating habits. but i hope to do mc again maybe after couple of months more. hopefully too, i will be done with my dental works then that requires sedation. i was supposed to have that dental surgery last jan 30 but because i developed uti jan 27 & had blood in my urine, my pcp suggested i postpone the surgery. later on, i found out that my wbc is way too high. although, my urine culture is normal. my husband is fussing about my doing the mc. he's saying that maybe it might have triggered whatever is going on. on which i would say that maybe, mc might have actually helped me get it out in the open so i can take care of it properly. what do you think? did mc helped you with your lupus? i don't know how to do this thread. i've tried writing here but got no answer with my two threads. i hope this one, you'll be able to read. i really need some enlightenment about this. i hope to be able to do mc again & plan to do it 4x/year. so please, help me. thanks a lot. j

I'm a complete newbie only on day 2, but I can say from experience that there is a thing as too much - unless, you like that "burning ring of fire" experience that I just went through

I know somewhere in Peters book they say it's not the cayenne that burns but I beg to differ. I've been adding more and more cayenne and tonight reached my limit - had to urgently eliminate a "hot one" within 10 mins!

Hi, I just made it through day 1 and it was great..no hunger, no side effects..nothing. I love the taste of the lemonade and I think the cayenne adds great flavor to it..I do have 1 big question though...

I bought 100% pure cayenne powder from my local health food store, it is very fine in grain..and if Im not mistaken the label said 35,000 IU or something like it...

Can I use the cayenne powderor must it be cayenne pepper?

Im really scared this might alter my results..

Also, I realized today, my smallest measuring spoon is 1/4 of a teaspoon, so I was somewhat winging it when trying to measure the cayenne. I did make about 3 servings at a time to take to work with me..so hopefully I put enough in there. How spicy should the lemonade be?

I'm not doing the cleanse right now but I decided I wanted to try one of the cayenne capsules (not recommended for the cleanse). I took it and about 5 minutes later it really started to burn! I drank down some water and took a TUMS, it has been like 15 minutes and it is still burning! Not as bad as it was at first but wow, I can't believe that! Once it hits the stomach that capsule must dissolve instantly, I thought the stomach acids would stop it from burning. Or the stomach acids and the cayenne are duking it out down there.:)

Hello Bayareababe
I just today had an amazing afternoon with a Raw food enthusiast who, like many others, feel that major life threatening illnesses can be cured without radiation and chemo. I am sure that this is the topic of the day, and will be for quite some time. I have seen cases where cancer has gone into remission, and I have seen cases where the cancer does not and the patient has a VERY low quality of life until she or he passes into the next life. You see, I am a volunteer at a hospital with a large hem onc floor.
I am now researching the fast advocated by Mr. Andersen at ariseandshine.com, in which the plaque buildup in the intestines in broken down and removed by herbs and benonite drinks. Neat stuff. He feels that cancer is directly related to toxic reaction from our diet.
would really love to hear from you [EMAIL="rms.99@comcast.net"]

The cayenne pepper you want is the dried powdered kind you find in the spice section of the grocery store. It should definitely say "cayenne", not "chili pepper" or "chili powder" or anything like that.

I want to see you get the best results and you will if you follow Burroughs' instructions exactly. ;)

Peter

Hello,

I have been reading alot on the MC and my husband and I mixed us a glass the other night to sample it just to make sure that we, me mostly can handle the cayenne, because I don't do hot or spicy anything. So I have seen where other people have found ways. So my question is does if work effectively if you do if in as some say shots. Like mixing in water before or after the lemonade or may mixing up a glass and then taking a small amount and mix in the cayenne before and drink it and then finish the glass?

Also when fixing the lemon juice does it matter if there is pulp in it or should we strain the pulp out?

Another question is with the salt water flush and with the shots of cayenne can you also lick a lemon before, after and during drinking them to help with getting it down?:)

Well today is only day 1 and I have already had a lot of problems....mostly with the cayenne pepper. I put 1/10 of a teaspoon in my first glass and I could only drink half of it....the taste combination made me gag. So, I tried doing the shot of cayenne pepper and it gave me heartburn and again made me gag lol. So, apparentally I don't like cayenne pepper. AT ALL. I was wondering if for people like me who cannot stand it if it is better to take the cayenne capsules or to just skip it altogether. I would love to be able to follow the directions for the fast completely, but I can't drink the lemonade if I am gagging the whole time.
