How will this Master Cleanse interfere with a womans' monthly cycle?... How many days should a person wait if at all?

On page 19, Stanley Burroughs says, "Blend a part of the lemon skin and pulp with the lemonade in a blender for further cleansing and laxative effect. (Note: commercially produced lemons may have had their skins dyed with yellow coloring and may have been subjected to poisonous insect sprays -- be sure to peel off the outer skin if you cannot get uncolored, organically grown lemons.) The properties in the lemon skin also act as a hemostatic to pervent excess bleeding and to prevent clotting internally should there be any such prevailing condition. (Don't worry -- normal conditions will continue during the menstrual periods.) [Parenthetical thoughts are those of Stanley Burroughs.]

I had my period two days short of two weeks ago, I started today, the first day of my cleanse. Is the cleanse to blame? (I have sarsaparilla tea the night before)

Marlene

It probably is the cleanse causing a flushing out of the system. I have read, I think it was in Dr. Beiler's book, that the body uses the period to cleanse itself. I found that when I do a major cleanse or change in diet that sometimes my period comes on sooner than expected.

If the flow is a normal one, there shouldn't be a cause to worry. If it is heavy but you are not feeling tired, lack of energy or weak due to the heavy flow, then also, don't worry.

Love,
Marlene

should i continue to take my oral birth control pills? i'm not necessarily active but something might come up- though, i wonder if i'd be any social with all the side effects that will be occuring... should i stop them for the cleanse and then start them up again after? I don't really <i>need</i> them right now, but i'm also afraid of the bleeding that may happen when i go off them. Plus- i am addicted to diuretics. really. i've been taking a daily diuretic for over two years. and i know i shouldn't take them like that but it's a mental addiction and i also know i shouldn't take them on this cleanse, but i'm also afraid of the consequenses of going off those... :-/ i'm such a mess! At least i'm not addicted to caffiene or diet pills anymore :(

Since this is the women section I think I can answer without worrying about too much info.. ;D

I'm on day four of MC and my period started 3 days ago (nearly two weeks late and I was not PG). the flow has been the same as always but there is more clots coming out than usual. Not worried though, just figure I'm getting a thorough cleansins

Hi

I'm going through menopause and even through I'm on hormones, I have severe hot flashes, especially at night. Anyone have experience with how the MC night affect hot flashes?

Hi,

I am on Dsy 5 of MC and just started my periods today. I feel pretty tired, am bleeding normally heavy and am taking it easy. I also have sensitive teeth and today for the first time, I experienced a sensitive sensation when I brushed my teeth. It hurt! I feel it tingle a little when I dring the lemon drink. I am trying to drink large quantities of juice and then some water or tea afterwards. Has anyone experienced this?

My gums have been bleeding quite a bit, I sometimes get some pink when I brushed pre MC but this is far more.

im on day 5.
and day 4 of my period. day 2 of my period is hellacious, always has been but this time i notice more bleedin/clottin then normal deepened cramping and my womb was balled up tight through out the day. i was ridiculously sick (vomittin) but some times i experience that once or twice during my regular periods , because of the crampin and because i have fibriods, this time i was vomitting from 2pm in the afternoon to 10 pm at night -the next day tho' i was fine! and continued with my fast. to tell u the truth i feel like my cycle isnt even on so maybe it was the cleansing that i needed!

Hi Tori, Welcome to the bulletin board. :)

If you read the earlier postings, you'll see remarks from other women that they had additional flow while on the cleanse. In one of the earlier posts, my wife makes the point that a woman's period is a means of detoxification.

Hope this helps,
Peter

I am on Day 3 of the MC and also on oral birth control. I have still been taking the pill, but am curious how dangerous the 2 together are. I am assuming that the pill will lose its effectiveness, but I didnt want to throuw my entire system out iof wack by going off of the pill for the MC time. ???

Hi Quiet Queen, :)

You mention the acidic tea. Do you mean the laxative tea or the lemonade? If you meant the lemonade, did you check to see you mixed it right? I've very, very seldom heard complaints about the lemonade being acidic and never heard any comments like that on the laxative tea.

If you can't keep down the salt water flush, drink the laxative tea morning and evening. ;)

If your period is severe, you might want to wait until it's over before starting the cleanse and take it easy on the cleanse as it's an indicator that you are more toxic than the average person. :-[

There's a section in my book on taking it easy. Basically, drink the minimum of lemonade drinks per day (6) and be sure to keep in all the elimination actions such as laxative tea and salt water, if possible, and each day drink at least one ounce of water or lemonade for each two pounds of body weight. These actions will help to eliminate the toxins you're mobilizing on the cleanse so they don't build up and make you sick (detox symptoms).

I also cover what the detox symptoms are and why you want them even though they make you feel worse temporarily.

I've always wanted to do a 40 day fast (for physical and spiritual reasons) but due to the severity of my cramps I began to think that was never going to happen.

If I continue on this current MC I'll be on day 23 before it begins again...so hopefully by then I'll be committed enough to keep going despite the discomfort.

Peter do you know of anyone who has done the full 40??

I've searched high and low because I want to find out what its like to go that long....but there doesn't seem to be much written about lengthy MCs ???

I know a member of this board named Darkside had said he was attempting to do 40 days but I haven't seen him on here in a while.

Hi Quiet Queen, :)

You didn't answer my last post asking what was the acidic tea. Please do. It'll be easier to help you if I understand your situation.

On the 40 days, I've done 20 and 17 twice. I have a friend who knows someone who did 60.

If you're having heavy detox symptoms, please be sure you read the topic on the bulletin board "When things are difficult and you're worried."

It might be easier to do a couple 10 day cleanses first. Subsequent cleanses are easier.

hey pete!

sorry i missed the tea question

when i called the MC adicic what i meant was that when im on my cycle my symptoms are so sever that it's like the equivilent of really harsh 'morning sickness'

anything citrus tastes 'acidic'...milk talks like slime and makes me puke...and a host of other exxagerated reactions take over my body...(off my cycle i get the tea down just fine ;) )

ive heard my symptoms are all due to my hormones being on the fritz and since i'll be on day 23 of my fast the next time i get my next cycle...im hoping that all the detoxing ive been doing will help calm down some of my symptoms because my body should be functioning better by then (hopefully!)

Hi there Quiet Queen,

This is my second time doing the MC. The first time, my sister and I did the MC for 40 days. Surprisingly, it wasn't really bad in the beginning like we thought. I guess, because we prayed about it 3 weeks before we actually did the MC. So, we started in September and completed the 40 day cleanse. We stopped there because I wanted to do dinner for my wedding anniversary. :) I will say I had 2 periods during the first month I was on the MC. I did not have a period in October though. My body was just rejuvenating itself after releasing the toxins, I suppose. I went on the MC because I want to have another child, but feel I need to be healthier before trying.

As for your cramping, I have severe cramps when on my cycle. BUT, I notice, whenever I do some type of activity, the cramps disappear. EVERY TIME. I am currently on my cycle and I had bad cramping on Friday night. Saturday morning, I got up and had my laxative tea, then started doing some house cleaning (vacuum, dusting, etc.) and by the time I finished all my cleaning, my cramps were gone! It's a medical fact that activity during cycles reduce the amount of cramping. So try it out if you haven't already.

If you are still striving to complete the 40 day cleanse, don't give up. Every time I thought about stopping, I would go try on a piece of old clothing and to my surprise, it would be looser than the week before. In the first 10 days of the MC, I lost 15 lbs and my sister had lost 23 lbs! TOTAL SHOCK! BUT, we had extra energy, felt better and our skin looked flawless!

I started out weighing 223 (and I'm 5'4). By the end of the 40 days, I was at 202lbs. There were some days when I didn't lose anything, but I lost inches.

Now, my sister and I are on our second trial of the MC. We're now on day 22. I'm only down to 194 now, but I'm still losing inches. I've gone from a size 22 to a size 16 now, but a size 14 in shirts. I will stop this cleanse on day 34 so I can be off in time for Thanksgiving. Since I have 2 weeks left, I pray I can have maybe another 5 to 15 lbs lost, but if not, I'll do another cleanse after New Year's.

Anyway, I just wanted to share that there is someone out there who has done the 40 day cleanse. I chose 40 days primarily for the spiritual benefits, but also needed to do something to help me get my body back to where it use to be. Since the MC, I'm doing my 30 minutes of walking all the time and am not tired. My goal is to get down to 140 or 135. Then to maintain it. I must say I did maintain my weight loss the first time I went off the cleanse. I was doing well with the fruit and veggies and I love turkey, fish and chicken. So, hopefully, this will inspire you to continue to day 40, if not longer. :-)

Take care and keep up the good work!

I have just been reading these posts for women who are menstruating and on the cleanse. I hae read in a book called "Honoring Mestruation" that when women are menstruatiing yes our bodies are naturally detoxing, but that also it is a great time to cleanse or go through any other changes (i.e. quitting smoking), not that it is easier but our bodies can naturally adapt when we are on our cycles. I think it may have to do with our bodies naturally purging. I started the cleanse on the third day of my cyle and haven't noticed any changes in my discharge, but definately noticed a difference with my cramoing, my cramps went away.
By the way this book I am talking about is a wonderful book, especilly for young women who may have just started their menstruating cycles.

Ok Gals. For those of us that are little more *ahem* mature, I have found a cool benefit of fasting! I normally suffer from severe hot flashes and night sweats. I have not had a single flash since my third day of the fast. I hope to reintroduce foods slowly, and see what it is in my diet that is causing me problems. The obvious culprits are alcohol and coffee. But, they say spicy foods cause hot flashes. I take alot of cayenne, so I tend to think that is not a problem (for me). Hope this gives hope to other women!

Peter
December 13th, 2004, 05:24 PM
I've never had anyone post their results on doing the cleanse while taking contraceptive pills, but at curezone.com, I've seen a post from a lady who said she'd done it and it was fine. She got a good result.

I believe it because I think I would have heard on this bulletin board after a whole year if contraceptive pills were any kind of a problem (or vice versa).

So, when you're done with your cleanse, will you please post your results and mention the birth control pills to help others?

so i have a woman question too....

i'm on day 4 of my fast and have been noticing yeast infection like symptoms...normal? i'm not normally yeast-y (although i have about one or two a year)...i considered the increase in concentrated sweetner as a possible cause of a yeast infection, but could this just be some form of toxin elimation? and if not, should i just wait till the end of my fast to treat it? please please help....

I have a woman question too. I am trying to conceive a second child. Been trying for five months.

I started MC on the first monday this year (1/3/05) Am afraid the cleanse may affect my chance to actually conceive/implant/get pregnant. Does the body get confused about the little energy energy it gets whether to make a baby and detox your body or do both?

I am trying to find a post similar to mine.

:) I am on day five

It is also day 21 in my woman cycle. I usually get breast tenderness this late in the cycle, because I would expect a period in 7-8 days.

First, off I like to complete my ten day cleanse before I get period even in the even I might be pregnant - is that OK? As soon as I find out I will quit

Second, I have noticed the most bizzarresymptom. I have NO BREAST TENDERNESS this month!!! Is it due to the cleanse, or that I have not consumed anything for the tenderness to be happen, or is my hormones finally IN BALANCE??

I am just starting the cleanse, and I take evening primrose oil and vitamin E to control hot flashes and other symptoms. I don't want to regress in my symptoms, so even though I don't mind skipping my other vitamins, these I don't want to skip those. . . Also, I have been taking passion flower and valerian, along with benydryl to help me sleep at night, and I'm worried about skipping these. In addition, I want to do this, I tried most of the day yesterday, but had dinner with my family, and I hated the lemonade w/the maple syrup & cayenne taste. I don't think I can get the sugar cane extract--possibly agave extract. I have a fasting tea that I had previously been drinking that I love that consists of 1 cup unsweetened cranberry juice, 56 oz of water, 3/4 cup orange juice, 1/4 c lemon juice, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, 1/4 tsp ginger--simmered for 10 minutes. This can be drunken hot or cold, and I sweeten it w/stevia--I love this--the cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger are supposed to rev up your metabolism, and stave off hunger pains, etc. So what I was thinking about doing is use this tea, but still have the fresh sweezed lemonade, sweetened w/stevia, have the maple and cyenne separately (shot). What do you think? :)

I am on day 5 of my second cleanse. My first cleanse began Jan. 1 and lasted for ten days. I also started my cycle on the same day of that cleanse. On this cleanse my period began on day two. What I have noticed this time is that I haven't had as much cramping and the bleeding has been less.

For the woman who asked about oral contraceptives - I, too, am on the pill and have taken them throughout my Cleanse. It's the only medication I take and/or have taken during that time.

I'm on Day 33 right now, and have experienced two periods - the first on Day 5, and then starting yesterday (which came a day early).

I took my pill each day about an hour after my SWF with my first lemonade. Never noticed it "flushing", and having two periods just about guarantees (though nothing is 100%) that my pills worked - I'm on schedule and everything.

As far as periods, though, both of them have been very, very heavy and (if I may be so bold) I've never seen such BRIGHT red blood. Both periods have been this way, but as everyone else here says, it's probably just detox (plus all the extra water in me adding to my blood plasma I guess).

In 33 days I've lost 23 pounds (plateau-ing now because of my period) and - yes - I plan on going the whole 40 days. Next Friday, Feb 11 is my last day :)

My sister is interested in doing the MC but she has a question about birth control. She is currently getting an IM shot of Depo-Provera (which is a progesterone hormone injection), once every 3 months for birth control. She wants to know if she will remain fully protected from getting pregnant, if she does a MC.

I'm not up on the latest birth control methods because I had a hysterectomy about 8 years ago, so I have no idea what to tell her. Does anybody know? She definately doesn't want to take any chances at this stage in her life. Her children are grown.

I have another "woman question." I have fibrocystic breasts, and I am wondering if it's possible that this cleanse will eliminate some of that problem.

I'm only on day 4 of my first cleanse, but I've noticed two things. I started my period on the same day I started the cleanse, and my breasts are not sore like they often are when I am menstruating. Also, they don't feel as hard and lumpy... Is it possible that the cleanse is softening them up? I would love to have soft, floppy breasts instead of the twin rocks of Gibraltar. LOL.

I would not be surprised if it did soften and heal your breasts for you... I notice that all the female stuff my body does gets easier and smoother, softer and more normal with each cleanse.. I am on my third.

I also had some concerns about doing the cleanse while on my oral concraceptive pills. I have also been considering going off the pills and finding an alternative form of birth control for awhile now, due to the detrimental side effects associated with long term (or even possibly short-term) hormone use.

So I took my last pill on saturday night and started the cleanse monday morning. I also did some research on alternative forms of birth control and after some thought decided to order the Lady Comp Fertility monitor. Very easy to use: the machine takes your temperature orally every morning and give you a red light if you're fertile, green light if you're not! And it has a 99.2% success rate...same as the pill! So I'll just have to use some other type of contraceptive for the 5 or 6 days a month the monitor gives me a red light. Just wanted to share with everyone as I have been thinking of taking this step for awhile now, but didn't know there was anything like this out there available! You can check it out at: http://www.naturalbirthcontrol.com/index.php

Back to the subject, I would imagine you will still get good results from the diet while taking the pill. Yet one of the reasons for the cleanse is to get rid of all the artificial chemicals, etc. that have built up in your body, so to me it just didn't make sense to keep adding artificial hormones to my body while doing the cleanse at the same time. So I will keep you all updated and let you know how it goes being recently off the pill and starting the cleanse (and how the fertility monitor works out!).

Good luck to all you women out there struggling with this same issue, as I know it is a very difficult one...it sure was for me!!

I'm still taking my contraceptive pill -- Yasmin -- but I never take the white reminder pills. Yasmin is an ultra-low dose pill that I take to control PMS/PMDD symptoms, and there was no way I was risking a hellish period while trying to not eat food. The last time I tried to skip a month nearly killed me. Like others, I take mine after the SWF in the morning, and I've not noticed any problems.

I was on the Depo shot. I quit taking it months ago. I should have started awhile back but did not start until I did the MC. I wonder if the MC is helping that area too?
I will not be taking the depo again. I have heard from others that it made them gain weight. My period was very dark...like old blood but atleast I had one. I hope that they come normally now. Last time I came off of the Depo, I bleed for two weeks. Too much info, I know. Men, don't you wish you could have periods 6 months out of the year to help us out?

Kitkat,

DO NOT do the MC while pregnant! Â*Everything that I have read says that it can be harmful to the baby. Â*Just enjoy your pregnancy and your first baby. Congratulations! Â*There will be plenty of time to do other MC's after you have your baby. Â*I personally would recommend to you to just focus on taking good care of yourself and your bably by eating very healthy and getting proper rest and exercise during this time. Also, if you decide to breastfeed your baby, (best option if you can), you shouldn't do the MC either.

thank you for your advice on pregnancy. Interesting enough ... my husband and I have been doing the cleanse together and 2 weeks after doing 20 days of the cleanse, I got pregnant for the first time. I'm 35 years old and we had been trying for 2 years. I'm glad that we both cleansed before my pregnancy, however, my body "craves" doing the cleanse again.

I am on day 4 of my cleanse and though I have noticed no bloating or pain in my chest that is usually associated in my menstrual cycle, I am concerned because I woke up today with blood shot eyes and extreme dizziness. I also have a gritting sensation in my jaw, the feeling is similar to TMJ.
This is way different than the subtle side effects I felt on day 1 and 2 of the cleanse and I am very concerned. My period started today, that is the only change that has occured and I am following the cleanse to a "T". I work full time and do not have the option of laying at home during the cleanse. Has anyone had these symptoms during their cycle, I am thinking I should go off since I feel so faint?
Any info would be awesome.

Gaby,

Are you also drinking water besides the lemonades? Â*How many lemonades are you drinking each day? Â*Are you using two tablespoons of maple syrup in each lemonade? Â*

I'm not sure why you would wake up with blood shot eyes and dizziness. Â*Possibly some detox symptoms, but I don't know. Â*When I am fasting whether the MC or water and juice fast that I have done in the past, I have to be careful and not get up to fast. Â*Getting up to fast has caused me to get dizzy on occasion. Â*I don't think starting your period would cause these problems, however, for me, it usually makes me more tired and I have to slow down a bit.

Remember to drink half your body weight in ounces each day. Â*That does include the lemonades. If your only drinking six lemonades each day I would probably increase the number and make sure I was using two tablespoons of maple syrup in each lemonade to see if this would help to alleviate the symptoms. Â*Sorry your having these problems. I trust you will know what is best for you to do whether to continue or not.

Hi, Yes I am also drinking water, about 5-10 oz after most cups of lemonade per what the book said. I also have been grinding lemon peels and putting them in my lemonade as of yesterday cause I knew I was going to start my period. I am drinking about 9-11 cups a day (10 oz) each. I am using exactly 2 tbsp of maple syrup in each lemonade, am following the recipe to a "T". My boyfriend and I are doing this together and he is fine. His tongue is whiter and his symptoms for the first two days were more severe but now he is fine.
Question, when you got up to fast did you stay dizzy all day or was it just temporary?
One thing I thought of after I posted is that my roomate has been sick (flu like symptoms) and this could also be the beginnings of the same for me. If this is the case, you would think the lemonade would help knock that out but as the day progresses I am getting worse.
If this continues through the end of tomorrow or I have a fever then I will consider bringing myself back onto solids.

Gaby,

My dizziness was only temporary. Sorry. It sounds like yours is ongoing. :(

The flu might be a possibility. The lemon juice is high in vitamin C which would be good for your immune system, but the sugars in the maple syrup might work against you by suppressing your immune system somewhat.

Have your ever had these symptons before?

I've only had these symptoms before when I've been really sick. I came home from work today and my temp was 100.1 so that settles that. Wasn't my period and wasn't the cleanse. Had me scared for a bit. On day 1 of the cleanse I was a little lite headed and naucious but by day 3 I felt great. Today though, not so much but now I know why, thanks for your insight.

Cytrus,

I almost always crave choclate and salty stuff near my period; I've read in the past how it can relate to certain vitamin or was it magnesium deficiencies. Anyway, you should check in Nutritional Almanac or online or Prescription for Nutritional Healing and it will probably go over that. I've read that "general, nonspecific cravings" can also be handled with vitamin C but yours are specific...

I'll let you know If I run into any more specific data on this.

How you doing?

Can I do this at all while breastfeeding?? Since she's 16 mos, I thought maybe I could do it for a few days. What about the saltwater flush? Will that bother her? I was thinking of doing it and then not nursing her for four hours or more (if possible) would that be ok? I have to start getting some weight off. I can't use "I just had a baby" anymore, :'(

hi everyone! i just discovered this forum, what an excellent resource for people on the MC, so many of my questions and fears have been answered here, thank you all!! :)

one thing i couldn't find direct reference to that i am experiencing right now- bloody discharge, 2 days in a row (day 4 and 5 of the cleanse), accompanied by mild cramping. I am not expecting my period for another week or so, not that this is any kind of actual flow, it's only when i use the bathroom and then wipe. it was red at first, then brownish, this morning still brown, but now going red again. my cycles are usually really regular, and i have never had any between-cycle bleeding, so i'm kind of worried. has anyone else experienced this kind of bleeding on the cleanse? do you think i should go get checked out? (this is my first cleanse, btw)

thank you for your help, and good luck to all! :)

thank you Staying-Positive...i had the same worry. mine came a full week early after only being a week on the cleanse. i was very worried, also because the blood was much brighter than normal.

i guess it's good to hear that it happens. i was worried that the cleanse was flushing out the BC and wasn't working. we are goignt o use extra protection, just in case.

Hello and thank you for the responses :) I just wanted to send a follow-up update, just in case other women ever experience something similar!

So after a full week of basically spotting (blood only when I wiped), which is why I was concerned because it was definitely NOT a normal period, I finished my cleanse (only had time for an 8 day this go around, sadly, because I was just starting to feel great!), and when I started to re-introduce food, the spotting stopped. Two days later, I woke up with cramps and bleeding and started a full period, fairly normal flow (a bit more clumpy that usual, and definitely BRIGHT red!), lasting my normal flow time. Very strange indeed! I guess my body was just adding it's own cleansing eliminations to the mix :) I think next time I'm going to time my cleanse to coincide with my period so all systems can work together!

Thanks again for the replies :)

I actually have a question about birth control methods too. For religious and other reasons, my husband and I use a natural planning method that has worked for us for a few years now. I have to say that we are both thrilled with the method that allows me to remain hormone free and allows both of us to be very intimately connected with the cycles of my body. Anyway. I have two concerns -- mucus and temperature. I use a daily basal body temperature reading and attention to vaginal discharges to monitor my fertility . . . has anyone noticed a significant change in body temperature or discharges that could frustrate this method? I know that stools are often passed at higher temperatures during the cleanse; has anyone experienced a higher general body temperature as well?

Hi Leuvenite.

Great question! :)

I'm very interested in what responses you get on this topic as I get occasional questions on this myself.

On the hotter eliminations possibly causing a rise in body heat, I think you'll find that body temperature is lowered on a fast (juice fast). So, I'm interested in your experience so I can tell others.

I am planning to start this diet for the first time and I had a few questions, being a woman.

First off, I have had VERY irregular cycles my entire life, (I'm 19 right now) although taking BC pills have regulated them. I was just wondering because since my periods have been very irregular in the first place, will they become that way again though I'm taking the pill? Do you also become very fertile during the MC?

Secondly, I notice that when I dont eat I get very shaky and dizzy... will the MC be different or just the same as not eating at all in regards to the shakiness?

Lastly, while using the MC, has anyone experienced a type of hair loss? Is it okay to take an extra multivitamin during the MC process to prevent that?

Thanks in advance. I'm looking forward to using this! :D

I take birth control and my cycle is always the same every month, but the last time I did the clease it made thing a little off, it stayed longer and then my next cycle started a few days early.. the next month everything was back to normal.. as for being extra fertile, I don't believe that you are, but there is really no way of knowing.. If you are worried just use protection!! :)

I also get shaky when I don't eat!! On the cleanse I never got shaky, always felt full, and even had enough energy to work out.. the maple syrup is supposed to provide all the daily nutrients that you need!!

Don't take any supplements or daily multi vitamins while on the cleanse!!

Hair loss, I have no idea, I have heard other people talk about it on the board.. I would personally stop the cleanse if I experience any hair loss..

hope this helps!! :D

Hello,

I'm on day one on the cleanse, although I've already cheated by taking a couple of bites of some pasta. Is it okay to take this cleanse along with the parasite cleanse?

Also, I don't really understand how you can have bowel movements with no intake of food. SO, how long do I have before I experience the butt pee?

Also, I did a bowel cleanse for two weeks, during which time I began my cycle. As of today, I am now two weeks on my cycle, not much, mostly when I wipe. But do you think I should keep going with the MC? I haven't really been worried becuase I felt like it was actually cleansing me.

Thanks for your help.

I have a question:

I started my cleanse 7 days ago. I take BC pills. I forgot to take them on Sunday so I took 2 on Monday night. Then on Tuesday I forgot again (it has happened before and once I take 2 pills for the second time everything is back to normal, I've never forgotten 3 times in the same cycle) anyway, when I was about to take the second set of pills on Tuesday I realized I was getting my period. I took one pill to see if it would stop the bleeding and it didn't so I didn't take the 2 pill. I continued with the bleeding yesterday and I didn't take the pill. Now, it looks like it went away. My question is, would this be concider a cycle and if so I should I start on Sunday with a new pack? And more importantly, is it OK to have sex meanwhile? Thanks.

To Rosa,

I have also experienced bleeding after missing two birth control pills in month, and it is normal. When ever you miss even one pill it is possible to experience spotting or bleeding, so everything is ok, and I doubt the MC has anything to do with it. Also, If you quit taking your pill that week, (I realize it's been a few days) I would start a new pill pack on Sunday (yesterday?) but use a back-up method of bc, because missing three or more pills in a row reduces their effectiveness. I hope that answers your questions!

And to anyone who knows, i have a question and I apologize in advance for being graffic, or gross, but I'm dying to know. When I first did the MC, the first day only, I had actuall bowel movements that were solid, I assume from the food I ate the day before. But after that everything was liquid, to quote someone els, like a butt pee. Is this normal, because from how it sounded to me in the book, there should be more "normal" bowel movements. It also cautions about diarehha, so I didn't know...where I fell in that? Kind of gross I know, and I feel like a kindegartner talking about poop, ;D but I'd really like to know. Any thoughts are much appreciated. Thanks

i started the cleanse last week friday..but fell off on sunday..so i started day 1 on monday again..so i am officially on day 3 today and was supposed to have gotten my period on monday(day1) but it hasn't come yet..and i have bloating which is wierd..anyone have any ideas as to what it is?? i took a preg test today and it was negative..could it be the cleanse making it late?? from what i've read here, everyone has gotten their periods earlier than expected..so i'm concerned..any ideas are welcome..thanks

Melissa:

Thanks for your reply! I stopped taking the pill when I started bleeding and started taking it again on Sunday.

To answer your question: What you are experiencing is the norm. Any kind of discharge is an elimination. You might see a few solid elimination during the cleanse but it will mostly be in a liquid form.

I hope this helps.

It's the evening of Day 12 on the cleanse. Period started two nights ago, on time. Nothing out of the ordinary with the flow. My cramps were fairly mild, but this time even more mild. I've had no breast tenderness and no aching pain near my sacrum, which usually casues me much grief for several days before, during, and after my period. These are huge blessings! Thank you Stanley Burroughs. :D

Since I'm getting so "into" detoxification, I'm heading to the health food store tomorrow for unbleached tampons. They're supposed to be way more safe for you than the bleached white ones that emit toxins into your body.

Just wanted to post my period+MC experience.. I'm not on BC or anything.

*Trying not to be too gross or descriptive*

My periods normally only last a couple of days. The first day being spotting when I pee, the second and third day being the heaviest and the next 1 or 2 just being spotting and 99% of what comes out is after I pee.

I got my period a few days after the MC (day 5 maybe?)and it went my typical period schedule except the first day I was clotting like crazy. I'd feel like I'd have to pee but then about 20 clots would come out and then 2oz of urine. It was nuts. Its like it was so much it was pushing on my bladder or something and that's why I'd feel like I'd have to pee.
The 3rd day I noticed that the blood was getting more bright red.. That was weird.
Days later..typical only spotting where I only see blood when I wipe and it gets darker and darker and never anytime else.

I didn't try the blending the pulp thing, guess maybe I should've. :-X

Thanks for the posting, Noob. :)

I know this is a big area of concern for many women.

In general, a woman's period is another way for her body to detoxify. So, when a woman is on the Master Cleanse, her periods tend to come sooner and be heavier in the beginning.

What if I get pregnant while duing MC. I am trying to get pregnant for 3.5 years with the help of fertility doctor (not ovulating on my own). But I took a brake from the end of August and start duing acupuncture. I started MC yesterday (Sep 17) and yesterday I also had a positive ovulation test. I am planning to do MC for 10 days for now. But what if I get pregnant now?

No problem, LesiaT, as soon as you know you're pregnant, start breaking the cleanse. :)

Since the cleanse is a detox diet, you don't want to be detoxing because your baby would be exposed to the toxins being eliminated from your body.

Hello everyone. I have STILL been thinking about this MC thing and I'm a bit worried. For about the last month or so I have been feeling say, "under the weather." I have begun to develop Carpal Tunnel Syndrome which is basically numbness /pain in my hands, wrists, arms and other joints of my body, including my knees. Would the MC help this in any way? It is starting to get out of control, especially at night where I wake up about every 30 minutes with numbness in my arms and hands. :-[

Also, I've heard from other diets that NOT eating slows your metabolism which makes your body go into a "starvation mode" and you can actually hurt yourself. Is this true with the MC? ???

Thanks!

Hello Siouxsie-

You have described the classic "carpal tunnel" symptoms that I also had. Please see a specialist right away. An orthoapedic surgeon with hand specialty and use of arthroscopic surgery techniques (if necessary).
If you have to have surgery you want a doctor who uses the arthroscopic technique so you only have a tiny incision in your wrist and shorter recovery time. You can barely see my tiny incision from my arthroscopic surgery. Some doctors still do the surgery the "old fashioned" way and cut up your hand! Do not go for that path!

I do not know if the MC will help your symptoms. I found the MC after I had arthroscopic surgery for carpal tunnel on both hands. I highly recommend that you go to the web and research carpal tunnel. It does not get better without proper treatment, it only gets worse! :o
I waited too long to go to the doctor. We tried physical therapy first. However, I had to have surgery for my case. I do feel so much better and wish I had gone to the doctor sooner.

I also have arthritis and bursitis in my knees and the MC does help to lessen that pain and reduces the swelling and inflamation in my knees-YIPPEE!

Please see a specialist as soon as possible about your carpal tunnel!
Good luck!

Hello -

These exchanges are super helpful. I have a specific question that I don't think has been addressed. I have intense pain during my periods, and have to take 4-6 aleve during the first two days. Can I do this even though I am on the MC? I feel like it might defeat the purpose of detoxifying.

Thank you

Hi Ashik, welcome to the cleanse and this bulletin board. :)

If you have to take it to get by, do it. It's not as good as not taking it, but better than not doing the cleanse. ;) Smokers have done the cleanse while smoking. It would be better to have quit, but they still get good benefits.

By the way, a woman's period is another natural way for her body to detoxify. So, as a woman detoxifies on the cleanse, she tends to have lighter periods, less cramps, etc. The same thing holds true for hot flashes. Two women I know well had their hot flashes reduce significantly or completely go away during longer cleanses. :D

i too get horrendous periods (canNOT get through the first few days with out serious painkillers, puking from pain etc). as i understand it, this apparently means i'm chock full of toxins (though i've been like this since i got my period age 10), so i should take it easy. right?

i've read others' notes about getting their periods early, so since mine is ending now, i think i'd like to start the MC...tomorrow maybe? unfortunately, i've just come upon this site, so i'm wondering if:

1) the book(s) are available as a download

and if not,

2) someone knowledgeable could give me/direct me toward somewhere i could get the gist of things...and in particular, about detoxing (was bad when i went raw for a month) - particularly considering that i get hellacious menses and have been taking serious painkillers/hormone therapies/muscle relaxants etc etc to deal with this for almost 16 years.

sorry to go on, but i want to make sure to do this right. i know someone who started the MC without much thought and did her teas in the afternoon, no SWFs, and wondered why she felt like crap.

Ashik, I hope that your period symptoms will reduce during the cleanse. They certainly did for me. I usually get REALLY cranky before my period, but this time I did not have that problem. I started the cleanse before and continued all the way through my period and it was lighter that usual as Peter said it might be.

Good luck and happy cleansing!

Are there any women on the cleanse who use an IUD?
I've had mine for 2 years as I have very bad reactions to hormonal birth control. It works great for me, but still is a foriegn body, is there a chance the cleanse will expell it?

Terri- many women have periods 2 weeks or less apart on the cleanse. It is just your body cleansing one of it's most amazing organs- the one that makes people!
I would say do not worry unless you experience excessive bleeding.

I ended my 30 day cleanse in October, a few days days before my period was due. I wanted to use that time to eat raw and then once my period was done to start liver flushing. It never came! I'm now a month late. Pregnancy is impossible. The only thing I have had is that nasty pms discharge thing.

I ate 100% raw up untill 2 weeks ago when the pms symptoms started, nothing severe or abnormal. The cravings hit, but nothing that couldn't be ignored. I ate something that set off my mental cravings/food addiction and it's worse than it's ever been. I can now eat 3,000 calories at once without getting full! It's freaking crazy... I've always had a binge eating problem but damn never this bad.

So this weekend I'm hoping to be able to do the MC just for 2 days..I just want a quick detox, digestive system break and water weight loss. I want to hopefully do a liver flush the next 1 or 2 weekends..if my period doesn't come.

Has this ever happened to anyone else?

I only made it 4 days on the MC my first time. Day 2am was the best, I was back to feeling lousy the rest of the time. My headaches did not go away even with my AM eliminations. (Yes, I did do the salt water flush in the am, no I did not drink senna tea in the evening because it gave me bad cramps) The month I did the cleanse, I started my period on day 20 of my normally 27/28 day cycle. I plan to start the MC again after Thanksgiving.

As an aside, I'm concerned with siouxie's post, when she talks about "carpal tunnel syndrome" in her hands arms wrists and knees. As a licensed massage therapist (and former sufferer), I can tell you that carpal tunnel syndrome ONLY affects your thumb, index and middle finger, because the median nerve runs through the carpal tunnel in your wrist. Numbness in arms, hands and any other places indicates some nerve impingement should be evaluated by a medical doctor, and not self-diagnosed and treated. If you're concerned about your health enough to Master Clease, I suggest you explore non-invasive, non-surgical treatments first...Massage is very effective for carpal tunnel syndrome. And souxie, please talk to your doctor.

I've done the MC several times and each time I do it, I get my period around the middle/end of the cleanse no matter where I was in my cycle. It seems like it just starts over a fresh new cycle. Also, I am always much more exhausted when I get my period on the MC than normally. I feel like I can't even move sometimes, like a zombie. Is that normal?

tomorrow will be my first day(and first time doing this cleanse or any cleanse/fast). I should be starting my period any day now. I'm happy this was a topic actually, because I've been wandering if I should time it differently. But when I tried planning it around everything, it never seemed like the right time. so, I'm doing it.
the other thing is, is I have swollen glands right now. they're killing me. I feel awful and my head is full of mucos. ugh. and I'm worried I'll be in over my head. sick the whole time. but I want to detox my body and it feels like it needs it NOW. I have a toddler and am hoping this won't all be too much.
I'll keep checking in here, though.

I did the cleanse for 13 days last year. I lost 13 pounds in 13 days on the cleanse. I took my pill the entire time and felt absolutely terrific. I am beginning the cleanse again on dec 26th, 2005 and will continue to take my pill. Ladies, do not stress. YOU WILL BE FINE. and ignore everyone around u who has speculation about how healthy it is, how is causes more problems etc, once you try it, u will see just how fantastic it will make u feel about how clean u are and how u look. it's like a spring cleaning inside and out!

Hey Gals!

I just wanted to give a little input on those who are trying to decide when to start the cleanse......My advice is to start it at the end of your period. I tried starting the MC right before my period and not only did I have detox symptoms, but I had PMS as well and major, major food cravings.

Needless to say, I only made it to the middle of day 3. I tried starting the MC again at the end of my period and it has been so much easier.

Why torture yourself with detox and PMS?!

Has anyone else had this experience?

Good luck ladies, stay strong!

Since I have a tilted uterus, my periods are very painful and uncomfortable as a rule. Plus I'm usually in so much pain, I have no appetite, anyway. So as far as I'm concerned, doing the Master Cleanse while on my period is a match made in heaven.

That way, I don't have to have two separate sessions of torment within one month. ;D :D ;) :D ;D

My only regret is that I had to take some Midol's. Otherwise I wouldn't get anything done other than lay on the bed writhing in misery. :'( :P :-/ :'(

MC3 Day 11 here. First two cleanses I avoided my period and I was happy I did. This cleanse it came early, was no problem, hardly any cramps and no PMS symptoms. I noticed I didn't seem to drop any weight for about 4 days, and now I've dropped about 5 pounds in less than 2 days. :) So if you don't see any progress just be patient!!

Hi, I'm on Day 9 of my period. I noticed that I haven't lost my usual pound per day and I think it's because of the water retention during PMS. I'm curious to see what will happen after my period or now that I'm in it.

I think I'll probably drop like another 4 pounds or so. I'm on Day 9 -- This is probably my worst day -- I'm very tired but will say it's also because I didn't sleep much but it's pretty exaggerated. I started craving Lydia's Raw Crackers this morning -- first food craving that was real - for a minute I forgot I was on the cleanse and almost got in the car to go to the store and buy them!

I'm MC4 day 9, and I have a question for you all: although I don't do this cleanse to lose weight, I was hoping to shed some of my winter bulge. My ideal weight is around 125 in the summer, 130 in the winter (I'm 5'5, and quite active - more muscular), and I was up to 139.5 at the start (a week at Sandals all-inclusive in Jamaica over xmas and new years will do that to ya!)

Anyhoo, I'm on day 9, and only down to 133.5 (6 pounds). I only use 1 tbsp of maple syrup, and have been consuming about 6-8 lemonades a day plus water (which is only about 300 cals) and also sticking to my regular workout routine. The last 3 cleanses, I've lost between 8-12 pounds in the first 10 days.

Here's the thing: I just got my period Tuesday (day 7) (wow it's weird being bloated without any food in me) and usually weigh a bit more on my period....is it possible that i've lost more than 6 pounds in 9 days, and my period is masking that??

Slightly frustrated this time around....not going past 10 days as I'm going to a conference next week, and only planned on a 10-dayer this time (This is my 4th since last May, and my last 22 day-er was just in November) for a "quickie" cleanse.

Anyhoo....Any advice/opinions appreciated! I've noticed some gals saying that they lose less weight when they're cleansing on their periods....so does it come off soon after their period? Keep losing after the cleanse??

Love to all lemon/limeheads!!!!
JUICE ON!
Leah
ps- I did however lose 1 inch off each thigh, 1 inch off hips
(butt), and a bit off waist (but not much - I'm pear shaped, that's how it goes )

Hi Fellow Lemonaid Queens!

I hoping maybe someone out there might be able to give me some refreshing advice.

I'm doing the MC for health reasons and was wondering if anyone has or has come across anything relating to the MC and imbalenced hormones. I've seen numerous endocrinologists and they haven't been able to diagnose my condition. The only thing I can really say is it's hard being 26 and having hot flashes and your hair falling out! :)

So I'm on a path to cure myself and am hoping that doing the MC will empower me to do so. This is my first MC and I'm on day 8. Yay!

So I was wondering if maybe there is anyone who might be able to give me any information or words of wisdom. Thanks again for all of the great information thus far.

Have a great lemony/limey day! :)

I am also doing the cleanse for health reasons -- to eliminate or at least reduce the size of my uterine fibroid tumors which are caused by estrogen overload. Also, I have a sluggish thyroid, so I am hoping that my hormones do balance themselves.

I am on day five and my cycle started one week early on day 3 for me. No cramps but a real feeling of being bloated. There are particles coming out and the clots are more liquid in form as opposed to gel. The flow is also heavier.

Health to everyone.

YES!!! My period was indeed masking my weight loss. I'm down to 130, my first day after the cleanse.
:) :) :)

ps- also, my blood was so BRIGHT red! A bit of a heavier flow than usual too, and the cramping sucked in the morning in conjunction with tea and swf cramps

any suggestions for reliable information regarding hormone levels for women and the MC? i'm not experiencing any symptoms of menopause yet, but want to know how the cleanse will affect the inevitable swings in hormone levels.
thanks.

Hi catherine!

I have imbalenced hormones and frequently encounter mood swings. Â*Before I started this cleanse, I was doing Bikram yoga, once a day and find that this truly helps with my moods. Â*(I know, it might sounds crazy.) Regarding the cleanse, this is my first one and I'm on day 15. Â*I've had instances where I was feeling great, then for no reason I'm exhausted and crabby. Â*I think overall so far I've only had one true instant where I just crashed and burned. Â*I've been trying to look up hormones and the MC or just natural cures but haven't really found much. Â*If you know of anything that helps, please let me know. Â*Have a great day.

hey tiffany,
i'll definitely send any information your way that i may find in my search for hormones in relation to the MC. i've wanted to check out bikram yoga and your endorsement may be just the thing to spur me on....in the meantime, i'm taking pilates (twice a week) from a fantastic instructor (and friend) and that helps balance my hormones....btw, she is on day 6 of the MC!!
stay in touch,
catherine

I have a quick question. I was going to start my MC4 this month but I just realized there is a 98% chance I might be preganant. I know I can't do the cleanse while I am pregnant or breast feeding. Can I just drink the lemonade as a morning tea or a regular drink once a day? Believe it or not I am craving the lemonade taste and would like to find out if this is okay to drink just one or two 8oz glasses a day + regular meals.

Sure, go for it. And congrats if you're pregnant. :)

There's nothing technically special about the lemonade, it's not like it's something you pick up at the drugstore and mix together. It's just a fruit, a spice and a sweetner..things you could eat seperatly on a regular diet. You're not fasting so you don't have that problem of detoxing really fast and the baby absorbing it. All the weird things people crave while pregnant.. A couple glasses of lemonade can't even make the dangerous list. lol.

98%, congratulations! Wow, to do that again, how wonderful. I have always heard that lemons are really good for brain development. I would now have a lemon per day if I were pregnant, and cayenne and maple syrup are also good for you. I really personally wouldn't cleanse, you don't want any possibilities of any lack of nutrition in your system, but I would def. do one per day as a wonderful added benefit to youdr baby. Look up lemons, talk about so much added vit. c, etc.

Thanks for your responses. I have all the ingredients and will start drinking one glass a day!
By the way... I had problems getting pregnant before my cleanses(miscarried once). My first MC was 14 days in April , second 21 days in August and my third 10 days in November all cleanses in 2005. I know that somehow these cleanses helped me get pregnant (I had to share this wonderful experince with all of you). So for any women out there looking to get pregnant after your cleanses keep going!

Hello LadyLemoners,

Does anyone have any effective weight loss experience or advice for those of us in perimenopause (the transition from menses to menopause)?

I am 14 days past a 10-day cleanse. Part of the reason I did the cleanse was to try to jump start some weight loss, but I only lost a couple of pounds.

I am in perimenopause which means that my hormones are in flux, weight GAIN is easy and weight LOSS is difficult (due to a decrease in progesterone)! For the past 2 years, an extra 20 pounds have been impossible to lose! I do work out and exercise and am usually consistent with eating right. These measures always worked in the past, but in the past couple of years only keep me from gaining MORE, and are not enough to help me LOSE.

My doctor has recommended exercising twice as much (morning and evening or twice as long in the morning), which I have tried before. This is effective, but much harder to keep consistent -- I simply can't keep up that schedule for very long with working, a teenage daughter, an elderly mother, and not to mention additional post-Katrina recovery responsibilities (we're displaced from New Orleans).

Are there any foods, herbs, vitamins or other supplements or measures anyone has found effective for this? Any help, tips, or advice are appreciated!

I admit that I am discouraged. I hate to even see myself in a mirror, I look so fat to myself and have to buy such big clothes. I want to lose AND KEEP OFF between 20-30 pounds and get back to an ideal weight by living a lifestyle that I can actually maintain. But this is beginning to seem impossible. Does anyone know if weight loss is easier AFTER menopause?

dear wfwdtp!

first of all-- you've rEALLy got your hands full! "with working, a teenage daughter, an elderly mother, and not to mention additional post-Katrina recovery responsibilities (we're displaced from New Orleans)"-- OHY MY GOD! First and foremost YOU have to congratulate yourself for everything you're doing just to stay afloat!

about "the peri-menopause"... I went through a very very very long haul about it. for one thing I gained weight to the point where I was considered "technically obese" (5'6"& over 200lbs) when I finally joined a Gary Null support group for health related issues. I bought well over $300 worth of books on menopause, and perimenopause--and read every last one! (at one point-- they were stolen from my car when I was going to bring them, and a lifelong set of diaries and records of my period and health issues on my way to a "naturopath" who was supposed to help with "natural hormones" NOT THAT HE DID!) But I was desperate! nothing seemed to work, and I was convinced it was "the change"!

I'm not just talking about weight, it was like my whole system was completely out of wack, and I had A LOT OF HEALTH problems. a conventional doctor suggested that I undergo what could be a very painful procedure, with only a slim chance of helping-- to diagnose if I had interstitial cystitis so that I could be put on a medication that I was later told was not really helpful. it was at that point--that I was desperate enough to make serious change in my life: I went cold turkey on dairy, sugar, white flour....I joined the Gary Null support group, I started juicing, eating totally organic. A miracle happened: without even RESTRICTING my caloric intake I LOST WEIGHT! I lost something like 50 lbs. I felt better than ever!

this lasted for quite a while (years) and then I hit more "bad times". again I blamed it on the "perimenopause" which by the way, is a period of time that is supposed to span 10-15 years of a woman's life. at this point I lost all interest in having sex, I appeared to have ZERO libido, I gained weight all over again, and it seemed impossible to lose! I was convinced it was the sexual end of my life! friends of mine kept trying to tell me that maybe my interpretation was all wrong. I had my hormones measured, I went to endocrinologists.... I was DESPERATE FOR STUFF TO TAKE! my therapist recommend variious treatments... this also stretched on for a while...

finally a guy came along & cured all that -- because he fell for me & I FELL FOR HIM! all my supposedly hormonal problems melted away. I lost weight, started looking good...

then-- and this is all embarrasing to say-- I felt like he wasn't crazy about me anymore-- what do you think happened? WEIGHT GAIN! Gained 30 lbs in a very short amount of time. Kept it on for QUITE A WHILE. the scale just didn't seem to budge. I TRIED WHAT SEEMED LIKE EVERYTHING! I even started running and swimming EVERYDAY. I kept looking at the damn scale-- AND NOTHING WOULD MOVE for months and months and months. Finally I read this book on juice fasting . It wasn't like a complete miracle...right away-- but it was the beginning of realizing that I wasn't addicted to food and could live without it. It took me many months (like over 3) but I managed to lose 10 lbs by juice fasting first one, then 2, then 3 days.... It really helped. That's when my friend told me about the Master Cleanse...

Sorry if this has been too long winded a story, and I'm actually embarrassed to admit all this in public-- but what am I trying to say?

You can REALLY GET DISCOURAGED thinking that the "perimenopause" means weight gain is NATURAL at this time, and very difficult to take off!

You can feel OUT OF CONTROL about your body, and just desperate-- because of things they say!

Part of what helped was that in reading that book on fasting (which I don't have the reference here-- but I mention it in the "sex" thread...name & author) it talks a lot about how fasting can help "balance your hormones", normalize your body weight, and help you to regain your libido-- NO MATTER WHAT YOUR AGE! Â*:)

The other thing is that it may take a while, because the number one reason I PUT ON WEIGHT is always emotional! When I struggle with difficult issues in my life-- it just automatically goes into my body-- because of the whole-- stresss thing-- and eating for comfort.

So, what I would say: is you gotta LOVE yourself for all that you're doing. You have to believe that your body is NOT FUNDAMENTALLY different than it's been all along. Detoxing wil help vastly with many aspects of this-- but YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO IT ALL AT ONCE! You have a lifetime ahead of you to make changes, and YOU WILL SUCCEED!

Just saw your next post. I started with the fasting because in that fasting book there was an over 50's woman desperate much like you & I have been about her weight-- who went on a supervised juice fast for something like 54 days-- AND IT COMPLETELY CHANGED HER LIFE! I was SO jealous-- but I couldn't afford to go to some spa... and do a "supervised" fast...(I also had other pressing health concerns-- like extreme allergies due to boiler-backup.) I was Â*wondering HOW ON EARTH I COULD DO A LONG FAST--- because I couldn't wait anymore. I was totally impatient. I was sick with how my body looked! At that time I weighed 170 on my own scale (which may actually have been 175...) Today I weighed under 140! (138-139) YOU CAN DO IT TOO! The reason I have been able to go this long now, is partly because I already spent months trying with the juice fasts-- AND I READ EVERY POST and tried to figure out how to make it work for me! I COMPLAINED SO HEARTILY I was afraid everyone would hate me! YOU CAN DO IT wfwdtp! Â*

Start by BELIEVING in yourself, having compassion for all that you're going through, and go EASY!

I am 4 weeks pregnant and wondering if it is not wise to go on the cleanse. I have been doing the cleanse every 4 months for the last 2 years but now found out I am pregnant. Can I still do the cleanse for 20-30 days or should I not do it at all during my pregnancy. ps. this is my first pregnancy.

I am glad to have found this forum.. I am new here and today is day one of my MC. I have read in several places about women who suffered ffrom infertility and after 14 - 21 days on this cleanse they later got pregnant... is there any truth to this?

Also do you think or beleive will eliminate firbroids and ovarians cysts?

I am on day ten and bored with this fast. I juiced two oranges last night and made a lemon-orange cocktail. Maybe it's my period but I don't think I'll do this fast again for a while because it's B-O-R-I-N-G.

Hi all,

Well, here I am on my 4th day. Â*Honestly, I wasn't sure I'd make it this far when I was on my first...but I feel so good right now...well, except for one thing that has me a little concerned. Â*

My cycle started yesterday, pretty much on time even though I don't track it, and the flow is much heavier and brighter than normal. Â*Serious clotting, I mean BIG clots. Â*And lots of them. Usually I have a couple of minor ones, and that's only on the first day or so. But now I'm into my second day and they are still appearing, in droves!

Weird thing is my cramping hasn't been to unbearable (I have an IUD which makes it somewhat uncomfortable for the 1st couple of days but not debilitating). Â*I was concerned at first, because I normally pop an aspirin if it gets bad...I didn't have to at all. Â*Nice side affect of the cleanse.

Now here's the thing, I don't feel weak at all. Â* But my eliminations aren't really happening. Â*Does this mean my body is focusing more attention on getting my mentruel cycle completed? Â*Should I do anything differently? Â*

Any help or observations would be appreciated.

ok. i'm new to this- i've actually never been on an internet forum, so i hope i'm going about this the right way. I'm on day 3 of the MC and my hip joints are aching badly. it hurts to sit and i can't find a comfortable way to sleep. whats up with that?
also, i'm not having very many bowel movements.. and the ones i do have are not substantial.
i also started my period on the second day-- accompanied by lower back pains which are not normal for me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. THNX

I'm starting the cleanse tomorrow. However, I'm concerned that I just came down with a yeast infection. My main concern is that citrus is alkaline forming in the body, and yeast thrives on that. Is the cleanse going to make it worse? However, I find no posts that lead me to believe anybody has problems with yeast infections on the cleanse.

I'm starting by drinking the smooth move tonight but have already been fasting all day. I did have half an orange as I was not putting the maple syrup or cayenne in my lemonade and needed to get my blood sugar up around 5pm. So now I drank my first glass of lemonade to see what it was all about, and I took my last alfalfa capsule since I won't be able to take it after tonight.

What do I do about a yeast infection, though? I'm not going to put this off.

I'm hoping I will get my period early due to the cleanse, and it will naturally take the yeast with it. Using an over the counter cream would absorb in my body and be counterproductive to the cleanse, right?

I've heard that the MC isn't good if you have yeast issues but I've done this fast 3 times, now on my fourth and haven't had one yeast infection.
in fact the first time I did the MC I had a mild yeast infection before starting and it went away. I know it doesn't make sense. but that's my experience.
I hope it works out for you.
let the forum know if you do have problems that way others will be aware of issues to be concerned with.

Hey all,
I hope that everyone is doing great so far.
I was... until this afternoon.
I got my period today, and unlike most of you ladies, I was in complete AGONY for almost two hours. I felt like everything was on fire. Everything ached. I vomited (only water came out). And everything still feels sensitive. And i'm not even bleeding that much- no clotting, no heavy bleeding.
I want so bad to stay on the fast... I'm halfway there!
Anyone experiece something similar? Any advice?
Thanks.

Im so sorry about your hard times.

Since this is my first fast, I prepared most of my friends and boss that I'd be going thru some crazy stuff, and to please be patient. I am really treating this a time for me and only me (which means that ALL ELSE IS ON HOLD).

That said, on day 4 I get my period. darnit. this just adds to the bag of symptoms. I take the pill, not because Im a sex maniac and dont want to get prego, but because my cramps were so excruciating and bad, I would consider driving myslef to the hospital every month. The pill helps. So this month I probably started my cleanse at a bad time (But whenever you start it, ITs WORTH IT!). I started the cleanse, I stopped taking my pill, and got my period early, and there came the horrible cramps and back pain along with it, as if I was never taking the pill.

Because a period is our own way of cleansing every month, I keep telling myself,(and I think Im on the right track), "my body is on double duty cleanse right now, Im detoxing in two major ways. My period this time is so heavy with lots of clots, (normally its a light one, a breeze, no clots)...So I know its all working. Getting it all out is the point.

This as a SUPER special time for you, most likely the cleanse is not something you will be doing every month. So be strong, and stick it out. Bust out the water bottle and the heating pad, dont leave the house if you can, take it super easy if your in pain, Just get through it. Curl up in a ball and get some rest. Drink hot water with lemon, have your hot mint organic tea, PAMPER THE CRAP OUT OF YOURSELF. put all else on hold until you are stabilized.

My deadly cramps only lasted two days this month. Plus they were mixed with the cramps from the tea & SWF.

The vomiting I cannot relate to. Hopefully that has subsided, and you are able to keep the fluids down. you dont want to get dehydrated on this cleanse. I am not the expert on this, maybe someone else can reply...

you can do it.

Thanks so much for your advice.
I feel better today. Yesterday's nightmare is only a memory. What's weird is that i haven't had any bowel movements or heavy bleeding today.

What i really like about this cleanse is that it makes you stop and really pay attention to the details of your body.

And I am going to stick with it...
Be well!

It's very common for the cleanse to bring on an early period. I would probably start your next pill pack right away instead of doing the reminder week. That's just me though.

I got mine almost a week early. It only lasted 4 days though. Give it a couple days. Thursday is the new moon. I bet it stops around then.

Hang in there.

Got mine almost a week early too ( Day 8 ) - but it is MUCH better than usual - bleeding much lighter, and cramps not too bad (usually it is awful). Â*Still have it, this is my 5th day, but that's okay.

Not on the pill so no advice there. Â*No food, no sex - guess there's always cards - lol.

So now I'm worried because I'm a couple days late - based on when I had my period last month which was early due to the cleanse.

I don't know if I should be concerned or if this could be caused by having done the cleanse. I'm not on the pill.

I'm worried especially because of the cleanse supposedly being good for fertility. Hope I'm not pregnant. Â*

why don't you wait the customary 7 days and if you're still not seeing red, pee on a stick. and then go from there.

Hello Everyone,

I will start the MC next week. I am totally excited about it. However, about two months ago I went to the Gyno and she told me that I had herpes. I was so hurt and disappointed. I got it from an old boyfriend. Anyway, I wanted to know if the MC will help me rid this STD...If anyone has had this diagnosis and overcame it with the MC please let me know...Thanks in advance.

I am also about a week late getting my period. It is a little scary because I am NEVER late. I did the clease last month and had a reularly scheduled period during. I hope I am late because of the cleanse.
Has anyone skipped a period or was late after doing the cleanse?

Hi, just had a question in regards to the Menustrual Cycle. Has anyone else noticed a disregulated pattern after doing the detox. My dates changed from the 22nd (MARCH) to the 15th to the 11th and now the 3rd. This is not normal for my cycle. However, for the past two weeks I have been on antibotics. Could this be contributing to the change? I did my first detox on March 29th for 13 days. Starting April to date, these changes occur in my cycle. I am planning to start my second detox this week. Any suggestions or ideas?

Thanks!

Hey, gals - good news if you are postmenapausal (either naturally or artificially).
I've been having hot flashes after my hyst. a year and a half ago and nothing seemed to be able to stop them. After starting the cleanse on Friday (Thursday night with the tea) I had the best night sleep on Saturday night that I have had in over 2 years. Yea! I am so excited.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to continue the cleanse since my poison ivy is driving me nuts! However, after going back on the terrible food the hot flashes came back. Good news again since that pretty much confirms in my mind that my poor diet is to blame.
I'm excited to start the cleanse again as soon as I can. And I'm excited to see what other good side effects show up.
Yeah! This is fun!
Let me hear from other women who are postmenapausal. I would love to hear of your experiences!

I haven't completed a full cleanse but the last night I slept 6 whole hours in one stretch without a hot flash! That's the best I've slept in 2 years. So my theory is that the food with preservatives, sugar (which i've been told increases hot flashes), all the white stuff, etc. gives me hot flashes. When I get through a whole cleanse I will know for sure but I'm pretty sure that my hot flashes are related to my eating junk.
After my full cleanse I plan to eat raw, organic foods and do a periodic MC. I'm hoping a lot of my bad symptoms will go away!
Let me know what you think.

Hey, Becky here
I'm ending day 7, and I just happen to start my cycle on the day that I started the MC. For me this has been the nicest cycle that I have ever had. I have more energy and didn't have the cramping and heavy bleeding that I usually have, this is great. I'm thinking about going for 21 days.. AWESOME STUFF I can already fit into my size 12 pants and their loose on me.. Haaaaaa!!!

Hi,

I have missed a period totally on the Master Cleanse. And another time I did it I think I was late. I usually try and start the cleanse after my period.

Oh well, not this time.

Day one for me today. Looking forward to doing this with you guys.

Hi,

I am doing my first ever MC and I am on day 4. I got my period on day 3 and from reading the other posts, I expected to have a heavy flow but it has been the opposite which is quite unusual for me. Has anyone else experienced this? I have also not lost any weight/inches which I thought might be due to the fact that I got my period but I am not sure and it is slightly disheartening.

Also, I am following the instructions meticulously, drinking 6 glasses of lemonade a day, doing the salt water flush in the morning and taking the smooth move tea at night but I have not experienced any of the detox symptoms that Peter talks about. I find this very strange because my diet was awful before I did the cleanse! I have been having lots of BMs but I feel very bloated and am wondering if I am doing something wrong. I am planning to do the cleanse for 21 days so I want to make sure that I am on the right track.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Hi Chicka,

I started this cleanse w/ my period also. My flow is fairly medium, but on the cleanse it was light (almost to the point of spotting sometimes), and bright red. I'm not sure if i lost weight during this time because I only weighted myself at the beginning and on the 10th day. Your flow will vary on the cleanse.

Are you making the lemonade right? 8 oz h2o, 2 TBS lemon, and up to 2 TBS of maple syrup? If you're trying to lose, you can use less maple syrup. You add cayenne to taste, but i've noticed the more cayenne i use, the more comes out the next day. Only take what you can handle though. You might have to build up a tolerance to the cayenne. Are you drinking water in addition to the lemonade? You're supposed to drink 1/2 your weight in ounces. You might need more water to wash things out. If you're having BM's that's good. Everyone is different. I have been bloated on ths cleanse also. It's the first time i've been bloated on a cleanse. Give your body a chance to do what it has to, and stay here for support and questions.:)

I hope this helps, and Good luck on your journey. I'm on day 14 of 40.

Wow, I am so impressed that you are doing the MC for 40 days - you will have to let me know how it goes. I took your advice and am being patient. I am not going to weigh myself until I am half way through! I also increased my water intake which seems to be helping.

Thanks for the advice.

I am starting the master cleanse on Saturday. I ordered my kit from Humble Bee Health, and saved a lot of money. I am dating a personal trainer and nutrition specialist, he told me to eat oatmaeal, chicken/tuna, veggies and drink lots of water two to three days before the cleanse to get out as much toxins as I could so the detox wouldn't be so drastic. Is this a good idea?

Also, I take Allegra and Nexium. Should I stop the consumption of these? If I get a really bad headache, I can't take anything for it, correct?

Thanks!

the cleanse sometimes puts you off a bit. mine started two days early last time i did the cleanse and was painless and perfect, though a little extra bloody (but menstrating is a way of cleansing as well so it was good I guess.) the next month everything was back to normal. well my start day. the symptoms haven't been too bad.

Hi ladies...

To all that are concerned for latened or missed periods.. well i did a 35 day cleanse back in May. Since May I have NOT had a period till yeserday. I just started my Second MC on aug 4th. My doctor said that the cleanse most likely made me miss my period for 3 months. After all it is a drastic change to the diet and for me.. i lost 40 lbs in about 2.5 months.. but unfotunately I was on vacation for a month and put on 11lbs :(. Hopefully this 2nd cleanse can help me DETOX lal that NASTY GREASY UNHEALTHY FOOD I BINGED ON.

Also.. since i did not have my period for 3 months.. the week b4 my period the PMSing week.. I WAS WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY MENSTRAL!!! I ate EVERYTHING i mean literalyl EVERYTHING in SIGHT!! I ate everyday for 8 days till i was on the verge of pasing out.. inhaling food like OXYGEN. I mean i ate 3 buffets and I ate more than my brother who is 6'1'' adn 215 while i am 5'5'' 131 now.. i use to be 120 b4 i went to vacation. so yea...DEADLY PMSING..

Anyways.. GOOD LUCK TO ALL ON and OFF the cleanse... STAY STRONG!

Truly,

Laura

I am on day 13 of my first cleanse. I have been reading everything I could in this website, this is my first time writting any information about myself. Today was suppose to be my end date, but I decided to go another week. I started my cycle yesterday and all is well normal, if not better than normal. I didn't think it would be much fun to go off the cleanse at this time and I am not prepared for this wonderful feeling of clarity and energy to go away. I think I will go to 20. I have decided to do this cleanse every August before I start preparing for my upcoming year of teaching preschool. Can't think of a better way to clear my head and be prepared for the kids.

The monthly cycle will mask any positive results in weight that cleansing brings. After things return to "normal" you'll see the weight/inches loss.

Glad you mention this, since I always have to remind myself one looks fatter (and possibly weighs more) during periods.

I'm on my second MC. My first one stopped shortly before my period and the main effect I noticed was ... nothing! It was my first cramp-free period since I was a teenager...!!!!!!!!
This time, my ten days will more or less coincide with my period, but if it goes as well as the other one it may provide me with enough motivation to keep it for longer. I realise every occasion is different, and I might just have my most painful period now, but I do hope and wish the same will happen.

hey there,
I think you should wait. two reasons:
1. the detox symptoms plus the menstrual symptoms are not a good combo
2. the gushing of the salt water flush plus the gushing of blood, also not cool.

your period is a way of the body cleansing so i think it's good to start right after it. That's what I did for my last cleanse. I started the day after my cycle ended and ended the day before it started. For my first cleanse my cycle came in the middle of it and I noticed my cycle started a day or two early (but was regular the next month), I had more blood clots, and less cramps.

Since my first MC I've only had one cycle that made my sick and was so bad that I needed medicine. Otherwise, all my cycles have been milder and much less painful. Hopefully that happens for you too. Because I used to always have to take Aleve or be in bed for a day during my periods and I hated relying on medicine, but I also hated feeling so powerless and in pain.

Greetings all! I have purchased all of the ingredient to start the MC. I do have a few questions before starting....please help:)
1 - Is it better to start the cleanse on a Friday by taking the herbal tea before bed and then doing the SWF in the moring followed by lemon drink.
2- I am married and a mother of 2 teenage beef eating football, basketball playing boys. So I do have to prepare meals on a daily basis. Any suggestions on ways to keep from cheating.
3- Would continuing to take my multi-vitamins mess up the cleanse?
4- How much is the typical amount of weight lost within the 10 day period?

Everybody is different. A lot of folks lose about a pound a day, some more, some less. (Unfortunately for me-- I lose LESS, about 1/2 a pound a day. But even that SLOW rate is way better than you would do on any "conventional diet"!

Sensitive Teeth you say? Me 2 when I did a 10 day MC couple of years ago....very painful by last few days......I have sensitive teeth anyway, and my personal theory is the initial acid of the lemons can temporarily wear at the teeth.....i found relief by drinking my lemonade through a straw to direct the lemonade toward the back of my throat and not allow it to swamp around my mouth/teeth...this helped a lot!.....also, check with your dentist........also, there are several toothpastes that help with sensitivity but some have chemicals, may not suit your health guidelines (they do not suit mine) and you may be choosing to avoid toothpaste during the MC anyway (as i do, using only water and floss)......brushing with baking soda can feel very clean and fresh and is quite alkalinizing (counters acid). good luck!

I am also on Day 4 and started my cycle yesterday as well. I am so glad that I found this section. I was wondering about the clotting but not to worried. I trying to figure out how to alleiviate the cramping. I normally have to take a day off of work on my first day, but the first day was fine. The second day has been a bit unbearable. I feel like I am on the verge to eliminate some solid waste but feel a bit constipated. I guess I'll be lucky with the morning SWF.

Would I like to keep in touch. Are you doing 10 days or more?

Good Luck and Congrats on making it to Day 4 and heading to Day 5!!! We did it!!! :D ;) :)

Hi Freedom 1

I came home from work and my daughter had the whole house full of aroma grill chicken. I was on Day 3... I had to lock my self in the bathroom and turn on the fan and I grabbed the Master Clean Bible, puzzle book, and a fiction novel of comedy and I think I stayed in for about 3.5 hours.

It's extremely difficult having kids who don't really understand. I felt like Forest Gump listening to Bubba name off all of the ways to prepare shrimp. I just kind of sat there wondering when the smell would go away. And the answer was: when I mentally prepared myself that the food would only toxify my system.

Stay strong and continue to be encouraged.

Odyssey, I also started the cleanse around my period, about 2 days before. My period barely lasted 2 days and it usually lasts 5 or more. I think this is just due to the fact that we are basically "shocking" our bodies by doing the cleanse. I don't think it's anything to worry about; I'm actually happy about it! haha. But yeah, I wouldn't worry about it unless it keeps happening in future months.

This is my first MC. I'm on Day 6 and have started my period about 5 days early. I typically have severe cramps my first 2 days which then subsides. I have cramps now, but they're not horrible yet which is a relief. My question is, is it recommended to take an iron supplement while having my period on the cleanse? I have mild anemia due to hypo-thyroid so I'm a little nervous. Now that I'm on Day 6 I would really like to finish the cleanse since I've made it half way through.

Another thing regarding my period...I've been reading many previous posts regarding menstraual cramps and many people have said theirs have been significantly lighter on the cleanse. Mine were yesterday but this morning and last night they've been extremely painful. Not more than ususal, but of course, I usually take medication. Is there anything recommended I can do to while on the cleanse for the next day or so for the pain? Or should i just grin and bear it?

Hi ladies,

I have been off the cleanse for about a month now. I am concerned about a possible repercussion related to not being consistent with the probiotics one should take after the cleanse. I am taking the Daily Dolphius but have forgotten often.

I have been experiencing symptoms of an UTI. I haven't ever had an UTI, bladder or kidney infection, ever. But, I have been having the sensation of having to pee and not much coming out and general discomfort or a sensation of pressure.

I have been to my local health clinic last week , had a urine test, and it came back perfectly fine. But, it's been two weeks now since I noticed these sympyoms and they're not going away (but not worsening yet either).

Any suggestions? Could it be related to the cleanse, the depletion of "good" bacteria, and my forgetfulness with the probiotics as I suspect? If it's not a UTI, could it be a yeast infection or something? Please any insight is appreciated (I have no health insurance).

Thanks, Sarah R.

Hi Sarah, planned parenthood in your area does free exams, or sliding scale for what you are mentioning. There also is an over the counter medicine for the burning sensation. Also eat yogurt, drink kefir, etc to balance out your PE. If it continues you should be rechecked.

also drink pure cranberry juice or eat cranberries or craisins.
and by pure cranberry juice the kind with nothing added that tastes so bad it makes you make a face.

if you are really ready to start the cleanse, then go ahead. i'm just a tad concerned bc you will be peeing alot so if you're having pain down there... well ooooch. you know.

I just finished a 10 day MC a week ago. During the cleanse I started spotting even though it wasn't my monthly time. I am on Birth Control and continued to take the pills on my cleanse. I have cleansed 3 times prior to this and have taken the pills each time. Nothing has been out of the ordinary.

This time, I am still spotting. There is no pain associated but it's been about 2 weeks and it's getting really annoying. :o I just started my placebo week on the pills and should be getting my period this week. I hope it helps my body get back to normal.

I don't know if I should be concerned. This definitely is not normal for me but there aren't any additional side effects which would be cause for concern. Any thoughts or help are greatly appreciated.

I completed my last fast in late October and had wonderful results! Lost a total of 15 lbs and have managed to keep it off!!
I plan on going on a 15 or 20 day fast after the New Year (to get rid of all the holiday madness...) and doing regular 10 day fasts every 3-4 months. I have some questions that have yet to be addressed on this board.
I will be going back on birth control. Due to hormone sensitivity and other "female issues" the best choice for me at this juncture is the Depo shot. One of the side effects is that your periods will eventually stop. Has anyone had any experience with this and doing the MC? Do your periods really stop while you're doing the MC since your cycle is a cleansing mechanism in itself?
Just curious....

I would like to know how things go for you as well. I am on the pill and do not want to get pregnant now, but later yes. I am going to start 1st MC after the 1st and see how it goes. I am nervous but hoping that it will help with the PMS emotional and physical probs that I have etc

I am curious if anyone has ever done the MC with fibroid tumors and if so, how they responded. I have a heavy bleeding problem that's nearly continuous due to 5 fibroids, 3 of which are larger tumors. I have been researching the internet and found water fasting may be an option to try to help solve this condition. Then I came across the MC and am thinking of trying it starting on the 26th. Does anyone have any experience to share on this? I haven't found anything posted yet but then I haven't read all the posts here yet either. Thanks for any assistance.

I'm very interested in any information relating MC and uterine fibroids. Does anyone have a success story relating to reduction or elimination of uterine fibroids? I've done this cleanse 4 times: 27, 10, 17 and 38 days. At the end of the 38 day cleanse (MC4) i had a ultrasound and my uterine fibroids were still there. I would be very interested in finding out if anyone has eliminated uterine fibroids with MC and how long it took.

This is my first time posting although I have read extensively through the site and really appreciate the info. and support.

I have done one 10 day MC cleanse before as means of general detox but am now interested in doing another fast for a specific condition. I've just been diagnosed with a uterine fibroid the size of a lemon and my doctor wants to operate b/c she said it will likely grow (I'm of reproductive age) and that would make it harder to remove. Also, b/c it's on the outer wall of the uterus she said I can experience pain when I get pregnant. Specifically, what I would like to know is whether the MC would be beneficial to treat such a condition and if so, how many days should I fast as well as how I will know whether the fibroid is being dissolved.

Thanks in advance for any and all info.

Can anyone help me?

I will give you a little history. At the end of November I had a miscarriage which required a D&C. I got my period about 34 days later. It was a normal period. Well, now 6 days after my period ended, I am spotting. I have been since yesterday.

Do you think it's just a fluke or do you think it has something to do with the MC?

I started my MC yesterday. Peter, you are right about day 2 being hard! I had severe headaches all last night and most of today, aches and pains in my legs too. I stopped all of my vitamins and high blood pressure meds but am still taking my hormone replacement meds (estrogen). Do you know of anyone who did this and will the cleanse still be effective for me?

Hi SLR~
I'm a bit older than you (won't be having any more pregnancies), but I've been on my first MC for 25 days and for the last 10, I've had such excessive bleeding that it prompted a visit to my doctor. I will be having a D&C tomorrow. I asked if he thought it had anything to do with the MC and he said no. He feels it's due to perimenopausal conditions which have nothing to do with the MC. He did say, though, that he's not thrilled with the idea of the MC only because he's worried about knocking my electroytes out of whack. I hope some of this helps. If not, call your doctor, explain the MC and ask for an opinion. Good luck and feel better!

I have been on the pill for years, but i wanted to do the cleanse to clear up any yeast (caused by pills) and to also clear my ezema/ without worrying about being on the pill-- Anyone have any thoughts or replies .. thanx vey much.

hi lemoneater, this is actually covered earlier in this thread and the general help for newbies thread. i'd suggest you read it for more info on that and other things pertaining to the cleanse.
taking your birthcontrol pills is ok, just don't take them close to your swf.

I would just like to say that since I was young I have always gotten the worst cramps at the onset of my cycle. They would get so bad I would even vomit! I am on day 6 of my cleanse and I was surprised that my period came because I wasn't awaken by horrible pain! Thank God for cayanne pepper! :) I never liked taking pain pills and now I have a natural way to stop my cramping.

Hi all,

I've been reading the posts on this thread and most questions are pretty serious. The one I have is not, it's more in the superficial range...here goes: does anyone know if coloring your hair during a cleanse is a bad idea. I've read that dark hair color's have toxins.

I'm doing a longer cleanse...but would also like to color my roots again...

Also, what about makeup...I'm on day 14 and haven't been wearing any...but if I do does it matter (b/c the skin is detoxing, and I do have breakouts).

thanks and good luck to all of us lemonheads :)

ocean - I actually had similar questions. I was concerned with the hair thing so I scheduled my visit for after I am finished. As for make-up, I have been wearing less, but have had to cover up the break-outs as well. I am not really worried about my makeup because i use the mineral based Bare Esecentuals that is not bad for your skin...but I am curious if anyone has answers for either question. Maybe Res or Peannuterb??

I have another question for anyone who knows. I am also on BC pills but I have to take each pack back to back and not get my period. I have severe endemitriosis and my periods are really REALLY painful. (Painkiller mandatory painful). Has to do with a rather badly damaged overy from the Endo. Anyway, so I am nearing the end of the cleanse AND on the last week of my pack and I am cramping, PMS-ing and started spotting. Even if I was planning to get my cycle this month (I do it 3 times a year or so) I am still on the pack and NEVER start to get it early or while still taking the pills. Is this something that has happened to anyone else? Getting your period while still taking the pill (getting it early)

Also - I was wondering if because I am going through the cleanse I should let my body get my cycle to finish "cleansing". I know it is not great for my body to not get a monthly cycle, so I am wondering if my body is telling me to really cleanse.

Man oh man it is PAINFUL as all get out right now and I can't take any meds. I love how clean my body feels but I don't think I can take this.

I think we've had this discussion about hair dye before and the suggestion was to not do it while cleansing. I don't have a definite answer or reason why, I remember there was one about dyes and such whenever that topic came up but anyway, I'd say better be safe than sorry.

Olliphant, I'm not exactly familiar with your exact situation but people on the cleanse have had spotting, early periods, late periods, extra clotting, heavier cycles, lighter cycles - all types of things. it's so different for different people.
I'm on the patch and the cleanse threw off my period twice, once making it a few days earlier and another cleanse a few days late and then after the cleanse it was back on track.

MC 1 Day 9. All has been as expected except today I hit a snag of sorts. I have started to experience severe period-like pain even though I'm not due for a period for at least another 2 weeks. The alarming thing is I only get period pain when I've been putting things into my body throughout the month that I shouldnt be, eg. sugar, alcohol etc and not excercising, (of which I've been doing a lot). I have a history of cervical cancer in my family with abnormal cells present in previous pap smears, which is my incentive to lead a healthy lifestyle. Has anyone else had similar experiences?

I am on day 3 and I am premenstrual. I am doing ok so far. I had an emotional meltdown with my son yesterday = he had a really bad attitude about his homework and decided to share that tude with me while I was cooking (!) his dinner. I have to admit, I lost my cool and then burst into tears for about 20 minutes....he got an A on his test and I got over the hormonal outburst without eating anything - Tomorrow I have to be at work at 4 AM so I won't be able to do the SWF but that should just be for one or two days.
As for the SWF, I cant imagine drinking it through a straw - it would take too long!!! I just block my nose and chug a lug! I only takes about a minute to dirnk it and then I'm ready to go....

Hello all.

Day 9 of my first MC and I've felt great the whole time. My tummy's growling right now, so it's time for lemonade but things have been wonderful, plus I've lost 12 pounds as of this morning.

Unfortunately yesterday I felt the unmistakable signs of a yeast infection hit me. I've always been prone to them but in the past few years I've probably only gotten once a year. I've looked around the "For Women" forum and seen some information about the probiotics helping cure the YI, but I thought a more experienced MC'er could offer me some great advice. I hate to use an OTC remedy but man I despise YIs, and want to get rid of them ASAP!

I've got probiotics coming to me from the site store right now... Any info would be appreciated!

Hey Amanda,

Same thing happened to me on my second day of MC. My advise is to wait before you start to use anything. My symptoms were gone within 24 hours, so it's probably just another detox symptom. Since then I'm doing great! (Day 13 for me)

Peter (Glickman) doesn't advice to use probiotic during th cleanse, only after.

Good luck!

today is day eight for me, and low and behold~the period fairy decided
to visit me 6 days early:rolleyes:

I normally have bad pms symptoms, this time not so much- but I do have some backache and irratablity... and tired and cold.. the first day of my cycle is normally pretty bad, this isn't as bad.. but I think I will still watch some movies curled up on the couch which a couple of heating pads:D

I also drink about 120 ozs of water a day- I find that really keeps the detox symptoms really light (yes, for the first couple of days I lived int eh bathroom::lol::)

good luck to all, I will probably be back later to wine more

Ocean - thanks for asking the question about the hair dye, as I have been wondering that as well. It's MC 1, Day 3 for me, and I'm getting through it fairly well so far, although I have not yet experiened no hunger. That will be nice!

I'm wondering if anyone has dyed/highlighted their hair during the cleanse, and if so, how did it go? I'd like to go 20 days with this, and if I make it, am fairly certain I will not be able to go that long without a visit to the hairstylist. I had an appt scheduled the night beofre I began, but had to cancel it.

I wanted to mention a couple of other things in response to the different issues brought forth in this thread. Over the summer, I did two three day liquid fasts that were three weeks apart, and got my period a week early after I finished the second one (without any pms signs, I might add). I promptly called a nutritionist and homeopathic Dr, as I was quite surprised and a little alarmed, and they both said that during a fast, there may be an increase in estrogen, (being released from the fat cells, I believe), and this can bring on an early period. Nothng to worry about, they said.

The other thing is that some women have mentioned that their blood is a brighter red, and I have been told that the brighter the red in blood, the higher the oxygen level, which is a good thing. Maybe the MC helps increase the oxygen level in one's blood - ?

Thanks to Peter for setting up this website and everyone who has posted. I have found the info to be incredibly helpful and reassuring as I venture forth. Take care!

I lied... This just plain sucks.. the mc is fine- the period SUCKS!!!

I was woken up at 2:30am by horrible cramps~
at first I thought it was the lax tea doing nasty things, nope-
it was my period ravaging my body. I had to get up and heat up my
rice bag (heavy moist heat) in order to fall back asleep.

Res is completey right when she says time the mc AROUND your
monthly..

alright I am just complaining.. I think next to my first day, this is the worst-
I am also detoxing past surgery sites today as well..:o

The cramps are bad, but I normally take evening primrose oil and midol- so
it could just be my peroid without any dressing..

jericho- I was reading your post and my brain decided to play a trick on me. Where you said that I will be getting backing to wine later, I read it as you were going to go drink some wine. At first, I was like damn, she gets wine and I don't, but then my rationality kicked in and I realized that you weren't going to have a big beautiful glass of wine to help the period along... Funny how the mind does that. I am also on day 9 today. Woohoo, today and tomorrow and then I shall feast on... uh OJ.

Question for you (or anyone else)...My family has a history of problems with periods. (graphic information here--sorry) My sister and I both were prescribed pain killers for our severe cramping. It was to the point where the last pre-flow day and first flow day we were pretty much out of commission. Spending much time in a hot bath, bed with a heating pad, then back to the bath, etc. Added to that is that I'm starting to have similar issues as my mother, who had to have a Uterine Oblation this year because she bled excessively (52 days straight at one point--she became anemic). I'm not bleeding that much yet, but heavier than normal flow. My questions are...how do you all deal with cramping when you cannot take pain pills? What has/has not work for you all? And two...the increase in bleeding during your periods...is it a huge difference? Or just a little? (by this I mean a little equals using a super plus versus a regular tampon and a lot means bleeding through a super plus AND pad underneath)

Thanks. Any help is appreciated.

dzblond, here are some tips taken from the general help for newbies thread:

Cramps
Try a hot water pad for your cramps.
try drinking hot tea
do yoga (no upside down poses though)
take a walk or do some kind of exercise
soak in a hot bath
drink more water
get a massage

As for flow, it's different for everyone and even different for each cleanse. One cleanse I had a heavier flow, another a lighter flow.

If you can, wait until after you period to cleanse.

So mine just started last night and I'm sticking it out. No pain killers for the first time in 13+ years. I did the shot of cayenne I remember somebody mentioning. And I'll admit, I'm not truely in pain. But it is still VERY uncomfortable!!!:(

So the massive clotting and bright red (almost pink) liquid is normal for the MC? It's been kinda weirding me out all day.

But once it's done I can celebrate. It'll be nice to not "have" to take pain killers once a month. I can do a shot of cayenne any day!

Hey ladies, I'm on DAY 20 and I know my period is coming I had it about a 3 days before I started the MC. I actually thought that I rather be on the MC while on my period and since I am considering 25 days and maybe 30 It might just happen. I also wanted to have it because I'm interested to see what comes out, I know seems odd, but I have had 2 surgeries 3/12 years ago for a bicornuate uterus and 2 to remove cervical dysplasia b4 that one. My uterus has been checked and looks fine with a 90% chance i can carry a baby to term (no children but 5 misscarriages b4 this surgery) I have beenclear for cervical dysplasia for 4 years now.

I am just wondering what effects expecting very positive ones, on the MC will I have with such history. I am hoping this will further heal my uterus and cervix. Anyone have any knowledge of this? or insight?

Hey everyone,

I'm starting my second MC tomorrow (first time was last year, around this time, for 10 days; this time I'm going for 14). I suffer from pretty extreme PMS and am also about to start a new hormonal relief cream called Prolief (distributed by Arbonne) to help balance my hormones. The cream's active ingredient is progesterone and I will be starting it on the 26th, which will be day 7.

I know that nothing should be "taken" during a MC, and I plan only to ingest the lemonade, saline rinse in the morning, laxative tea at night and peppermint tea and water throughout the day, between lemonade glasses. I don't anticipate any major problems using the cream, but is there anything extremely dangerous about doing this -- for example, do people on hormonal birth control have any problems with their regular bc usage while on the MC?

Thanks in advance!

I did the master cleanse once before and when it ended I got my period. I had been on my birthcontrol pill, with no reactions.

This time around, is my first day, my period is slated to start in the next few days...i can say my pms is noticeably lighter (usually im a wreck the days before) and i hope it stays that way, heh.

Hello,

Okay, I must confess that I am into whole foods, and I dont take pro-biotics for the most part. This is my second time doing the diet, last time I went 11 days, and had more energy than I do now. My question is about yeast. I read on another site that the cleanse is like poison if you suffer from chronic yeast infection. I get V. Yeast infections pretty regularly, which usually goes nuts when I have higher sugar in my diet. I started the diet this time knowing I had a vag. Yeast infection, mostly to see what would happen. I am on day 8 now, and I still have symptoms. A few days ago, it felt severe and I had to go to work, so I used a clove of Garlic as a vaginal insert and left it in all day. This has worked for me before, as Garlic is a powerful antifungal. I was a little concerned about doing this at the time, because I didn't want to interfere with the diet. I experienced flatulation all day, and I'm not sure if it was related (never farted once last time I did the diet).

I guess I have two questions, is vaginal candidasis like the blood kind, and is this a sign I have bigger issues with it? (other women's Vag. yeast infections went away after a couple days, according to this thread). Also, is it okay to be using garlic while on this diet, or should I trust it to take care of the problem? Also, is it safe for me to continue on? I dont feel sick at all besides being kind of tired, and of course, the vag. symptoms. Thanks!

VTcleanser, I wouldn't be too worried. the cleanse can make your period change. check out more details in the general help for newbies thread (link below). there's a whole section in there about the cleanse and women and our cycles.

also, newbies' posts must be validated by a moderator so when you post it does not show up until one of us checks it out and gives it the okay. this helps stop spam on the board. so both of your posts came up, but i deleted the second repeat post.

for all newbies, if you don't see your post immediately after you post it, please be patient, it will show up, usually in a few hours. Don't repost, just wait. If you don't see it within 24 hours, email a moderator.

Have any women doing the cleanse noticed a decrease in cellulite? I don't know if it is my imagination or if I am really see a major decrease. It would be hard to see it in that I had quite a bit to begin with.

Hi, this is my first Master Cleanse and I'm grateful a friend recommended me to this board. Thanks everyone for your great advice and humor!!! =)

So I'm on Day 4 and feeling pretty good. I expected certain detox reactions (headache, etc) since I did other types of fasts years ago. But one thing is new: my heart is beating like crazy!!!! Sometimes at night waking me up. Other times during the day and I kinda have to stop and sit down. It's pounding like a taiko drum! Is this normal/safe?
It's been pretty consistent since Day 1 and I'm wondering when it's gonna let up. I've been following the Borroughs instructions meticulously.

Last thing: I just got my period after it stopped for 4 months due to stress and moving to another country (no, I'm not pregnant :) I'm thanking the MC and a recent big dose of acupuncture on getting my systems started again, I was getting worried! But that may be contributing to this feeling of extreme weakness.

Any ideas onthe heart-beating thing I'd really appreciate.

hi neen,
the cleanse does affect our periods, making them come sooner, later or heavier or lighter.

as for the heart beating, i donno what that is. it happens to me sometimes, off the cleanse, when i eat smores and when i'm really stressed out. drinking lot of water, doing controlled breathing exercises and sitting stil for a minute really helps. i wish i knew why or how to really help. if anyone knows, tell me :)

Women’s Issues
Periods – missed, late, early
Women sometimes experience changes during and after the cleanse. Your period might come early, be late, and in the case of longer cleanses, skip a month.
It might be heavier, lighter, longer or shorter.
Remember, your period is a cleanse in itself so track any changes.

As for any cravings you might have, remember that they are just mental and will pass. Stay strong and stick through it.
If you are concerned, then just start the cleanse at the end of your cycle.
If your period does comes while you are cleanses, please note that you may not notice any weight loss until after your period.

Birth control
Continue taking/ using your birth control as prescribed.

Cramps
Try a hot water pad for your cramps.
try drinking hot tea
do yoga (no upside down poses though)
take a walk or do some kind of exercise
soak in a hot bath
drink more water
get a massage

On page 19, Stanley Burroughs says, "Blend a part of the lemon skin and pulp with the lemonade in a blender for further cleansing and laxative effect. (Note: commercially produced lemons may have had their skins dyed with yellow coloring and may have been subjected to poisonous insect sprays -- be sure to peel off the outer skin if you cannot get uncolored, organically grown lemons.) The properties in the lemon skin also act as a hemostatic to prevent excess bleeding and to prevent clotting internally should there be any such prevailing condition. (Don't worry -- normal conditions will continue during the menstrual periods.) [Parenthetical thoughts are those of Stanley Burroughs.]

It is Sunday and I am on day 9 of my MC. I took 3 Advil on day 4 (Tuesday). I am a teacher and could not stand the horrible cramps that I had in the morning and afternoon :( . I am wondering if I should have started over again on day 1 on Wednesday since I broke the cleanse by taking the Advil?

Mostly with these little slips we just suggest you pick yourself back up and go on with the cleanse, which is exactly what you did. You may have set yourself back a bit or slowed your releasing because of it, so you can always tack on a day or two more at the end of your cleanse if you choose.

If not, then you will have gotten the cleanse you got, which is better than none!

no you don't have to start over. maybe just go a couple days longer to get it all out of your system. it doesn't really hurt your cleanse, it more so hurts your body. so just keep cleansing. :)

I feel so much better after reading this thread. I am on day 3 and have started my period 8 days early, (I'm on the pill so I'm VERY regular.) I was also a little disappointed earlier when I noticed I hadn't lost any inches off my waist...but now I realize it's probably the bloating.

Hi. I'm on day four of my MC and on day second I got symptoms of a yeast infection. I typically don't have a big problem with candida--it's been a few years since I last have one. Should i stop the cleanse? i did hear people with candida shouldn'tdo it.

help!

I am so glad for this thread. There is alot of great information in just the first 6 pages.

I have had several miscarriages. Most rescent one was 4/3/07. I have had severe migraines and lingering headaches. Dr isn't too good and I hate going to her and leaving feeling like I could have told myself that. It was things I already knew.

Anyhow, they don't know why I keep having recurrent miscarriages because I have 3 living children, so she said I have no idea what the cause is. Well, that is why you have tests I thought.

Anyways, because of the headaches and tiredness after the miscarriage, I decided I need to do this cleanse in order to get rid of the toxins in my body.

I do hope in time and with the right doctor be able to conceive again and carry the baby to term.

It's encouraging to see others on here hoping for the same thing.

no don't stop. stuff always flares up on the cleanse. It happens to me for two or so days every cleanse too. it's just detox and your body working things out. Nothing to be too concerned about. Have a read of the General Help for Newbies thread and the Detox Stages thread for more info.
